Bill and Terry you hit the nail on the head $34,995 is what the dealer is looking for and $26,000 is what they offer for trade for my 99 XJ8. Well my insurance statement arrived today with the Jaguar added and has snap me back to reality. Well thanks for the info, a guess I'll be force to live with my XJ8
I just found this thread and I thought I would see out of curiosity what my parents' cars are worth. I have a feeling our family cars are both highly depreciative, so I'm not expecting high numbers. Here goes...
#1: 1995 Ford Windstar GL, red ext, gray cloth int. Roof rack, keyless, ABS, cassette (no CD). Clean inside and out. Low miles (around 60K). Head gaskets replaced at 42K. Well maintained, have all service records from dealership. Good tires. No existing body damage, but LF fender, bumper and headlamp were replaced professionally in 1996 after accident. Known problems: Windshield washer doesn't work, hood latch tends to jam up, dime sized rust spot on front pass door.
#2: 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue base model, black ext, gray cloth int. CD, keyless, 3800 V6. About 50K miles. Clean in and out, never any body damage. Well maintained with dealer service records. Good tires, steering rack just replaced. Known problems: Several persistent rattles, front pass door sticks closed, left rear power window intermittently doesn't work.
How about a 2001 AMG S55 with 14,000 miles, all black? A friend totaled his and I have the ability of negotiating with the insurance adjuster. He's having a hard time swallowing a 30% depreciation - what do youse guys think?
...... Hey what's the chance's ...? Black ..l.o.l.. there either black or white, at least the ones I have seen (2)
There is very few of these ... it will be a hard one for the Ins Co. to shop, that's for sure.
I would have to say, with the miles and all .."around" $88/$90. The last one I saw at auction got no-saled at $84 with 17k and that had a touched pass rear door.
...... Uuummmm, let me guess .. head gaskets, let me throw a dart -- it must have a 3.8 V6, right ..?
Actually the miles are ok. for the year. It has a few nice little things going for it like the rack and the color.
A lost fender and bumper, well no help there ... and then there is the spot where the rust, raises its ugly head -- Oh well.
Door number 1 says: -- $2,5 and $3,000 on the push, for a trade. Door number 2 says: -- $5,900 in the paper with a wonderful and endearing AD. And perhaps some nice person will allow the vehicle to get cut from your Herd for $4,7/$4,9/$5,100 ..... and kiss it good-bye!
The Old's is a base model .. miles are still ok. for the year.. and it's the right color. So on a trade, it should pull a strong $6ish --- As long as it's clean, can still see the interior ..and it needs -0- .
Please call again ....
Terry.
PS- All kidding aside, your descriptions were wonderful, thank you.!
Take the Vin to the Nissan store, get the service history. If that's Ok, then don't sweat it.
I have bought some, Really NICE vehicles from the auctions, that have come from up north .. or the other way around, with a few stops on the way -- if it checks out - I don't blink.
Thanks for the info. $5000 on a private sale is actually a little better than I expected for the Windstar, considering their reputation. After all, we only got $2000 for the '87 Voyager SE [JUNK!] that we traded in when we bought the Windstar in 1994.
...... Usually, NADA is pretty accurate .. but I think you are on the "retail side" ..
Based on what you are telling us .. it's a 4dr..? 4x4 LS with 53,000 low miles. Keep in mind, this puppy better be clean ..inside and out.
If they are giving you $7,5 (real money) .. then these folks are trying hard for your business ..! Right now they are a Ghee Whiz ($1,000) over average book, so they are steppin'. If you feel uncomfortable .. go shop em'.
In my continuing quest for a nice Miata I offer this for your pricing pleasure (private sale):
95 Miata M Edition, 5 spd Merlot Mica exterior, tan leather interior CD 62,000 miles 60,000 mile service done (timing belt, battery, etc) Hard top 75% left on rubber Additional set of Blizzacs All M Edition goodies (A/C, leather, PW, LSD, BBS 15" alloys) Minimal wear and tear, immaculate interior
....... So ya got a little GXE going on here . ..huh..?
Slider ..? Limited Ed..? Miles are just kinda ok., but it's S.Cal and you Left Coasters will drive 50 miles for a lemonade. These are nice little vehicles ---- if it's clean, needs nothing except a new owner, then $10/$10,5 won't hurt you .. It's an easy $12,950 on the lot.
Man, these where HOT doggies when they came out with that Merlot. We used to get $5 large over MSRP - all .. day .. long..!
But today, if it's nice, clean, no parking lot kisses, that tan interior still looks new, and still shines and needs -0- .. then this will do a strong $6500+ at the block ..and on the retail side see if $7,8/$7,9 will snatch it, if not -- go to $8,5 and --- Quite..!
because the dealer just took the car in trade on Friday and in Georgia a dealer can't sell a car without the title. The loan should be paid off within a few days, the payoff check was sent out today.
Can I come out of my room now? It sure can get dark in here. You have to understand, all the info I get is from hubby. As he shouts it across the room, I will put him in the basement for good, next time.
The Acura, BMW, Mystique are all autos. They are all in superb shape. The Acura is a TL 3.2 with a premium package. Since I'm out now, one more for you. It's a 96 Chevy Caprice CL, auto, V8 LT1, has 26k, leather, cd, limt slip, tow pack, it's like new. Our neighbor is going to trade it, I think. I don't know why, its like new and he never drives it, just washes it and puts it back in the garage. Did I miss anything this time? I hate going to my room.
I bought a 2002 Honda civic coupe this january, I was involved in a wreck on Feb 24th, The car has $4200's worth of damage. My insurance company sent me a check for $730's. I'm thinking it should be more than that. I took my car to Carmax and they appraised it for 10,200, so I might get 11-11,500 for it as a trade-in, just curious if anyone thinks that the car only depreciated 730$. Oh, and it has frame damage too.
..... I know what you mean, I get sent there all the time ..l.o.l...
The Acura is worth "around" $16/$16,5 if it's just Jam-up perfect, that particular style is a little cold, a wonderful vehicle. But it kind of compete's against itself in the 99.
The Bimmer, that's a little on the edge, with the fender stuff.. and how well they did to it. Without actually seeing it, I would say $20/$20,5, the miles will stand up for this vehicle.
Whooo, this a strange bird -- it's a Caprice CL with 26k (no miles), it has the Vette. 5.7 motor, leather, and the L. Slip, and all the toy's that go with. Hmmm, basically this is a SS, without the trim and the decals. Me personally .. If this thing is just puuurffect, I wouldn't trade this puppy in. I would retail it in the paper -- a big 5 liner, for $10,900 and let someone come over and punish me for $10/10,3. On a trade, if they knew what they were lookin' at .. maybe $7,5/$8ish.(has he towed with this ..?)
2001 A4 1.8T w/Quattro 17k miles Silver ext with black leatherette interior Automatic/Tip, heated seats, sunroof, Bose, alloy wheels, homelink, I think also auto dimming mirrors as well. Original dealer asking price was 25,9, currently offer is 23,9. Is this a fair price or should I go lower. Car is in good shape inside and out. Its also certified.
Unless you post more information, you're going to be sent to your room! See below for a quote from one of Bill's earlier messages.

(time for a quick digression:)
Tsk tsk tsk... PEOPLE!!! Arrgh! Here's stuff I need to know:
Color combo Geographical location Tranny Doors 2WD? 4WD? Previous accident damage? (Get graphic here.. I want details on what happened to it. Didja paint the back bumper BC ya bumped someon in a parking lot or did you park it too close to the edge of the Grand Canyon?)
'97 Audi A4: 1.8t, 5-speed, black cloth, pearl white exterior. 78,000 miles. Very good conditon. Has 2001 16" wheels, trip computer and Bose as only options. No quattro.
'99 VW Golf GLS: 2.0L engine, 4-door, auto trans, moonroof, AC, PW, PL, ABS, 15" alloys, Silver w/black cloth interior, 6-CD changer, 51,000 miles. Very good condition except for a couple of small scratches on back bumper.
No accident damage to either. Both located in Orlando, FL
Its a 96 Blazer 4 dr 4wd Auto v6 LStrim in Colorado. Beige cloth interior.
Did have an accident, rear ended someone on Vail Pass in a blizzard going about 20, all fixed by insurance, 3k worth of damage.
I wasn't looking for someone here to tell me what its worth (though it sounds like that is what you're offering, so please, go ahead). I was simply confused as to why the NADA website says one thing and the book another.
49k, white, all the bells and whistles but power roof, very straight and clean. This is New England, Worcester Mass area. It's a 'new car trade-in'. Let's assume a clean title, no damage history and needs nothing...'front line ready'.
Let's see, it's white .. got some help there, it has 49 klicks, low in miles.
And from what you are telling us .. it's "front line ready' --- that means, it's knee deep in rubber, doesn't need w/shield blades, oil and filter is fresh, all the books and keys, all past service is done .. no paint work to be done .. stands tall and needs -0- and it looks 01 -- right ..?
IF -- it's as nice as you say it is .. then it hit the line at $8,4/$9 ..and it's for sale at "around" $10,900 ...
So what's the question ..? is this a trade, or a purchase.
I know I am going to be out a lot of money by trading in and getting a new vehicle, but I don't have much choice. I have had back surgery and am no able longer to get in/out of my Mustang effectively.
I have a 2000 Mustang, standard coupe, 36,045 miles, automatic, red (dark grey inside), power driv. seat and normal stuff (windows, locks, keyless entry), mach stereo system, premium wheels, and live in the Midwest. Edumunds list trade in at 10.2K, TMV of 13.8k (other sites have trade in ranging from 10k to 11.3k).
However, can I expect the dealer to give me a higher trade in as my Ford extended warranty is transferable? It was the premium (i.e. best) and for 5 yrs/ 100,000 miles?
I still owe almost 14k on this thing, so I need to minimize my losses.
Hey Guys, my friend wants to trade his Honda Accord in. What is a very realistic price? Also, I have read about 3,000 of these posts and thought I could read them all but it just takes too long. I got as far as July of last year.
Information: Car located in Chicago Illinois 1998 Honda Accord EX-L - Black Currant (purple) 80,200 miles 4 - door PS, PB, PW, PDL, power drivers seat, drivers lumbar support, Gray Leather interior Wood trim Leather steering wheel Leather shift knob remote keyless entry remote trunk release manufacturer alarm system floor mats moon-roof 10k miles left on tires slight door ding on drivers side back door and drivers side front fender no rust no scratches all maintenance records garaged
Also, this car was broadsided in it's second year of life with about $16,000 damage. It was about $1,000 from being totalled figuring 70% of value at the time. It was put back together nicely but I know Brentwood can tell from a mile away.

Thanks for the info. I called the dealer out of morbid curiousity and found out that 960 indeed has the locking diff. It was owned by a Volvo enthusiast who has a P1800 at home and traded this car in on an S80, which he also special ordered in cloth. I guess he really doesn't like leather...
As well, the dealer didn't sound too enthused about dealing. It's a 960 in cloth fer cryin' out loud!
I would have to think a blind man could spot this one ... the door jams alone, will sing like drunken sailors.
I don't know on this one .. miles are out of control and you have been hit by a meteorite ---- I really would have to see this gem .. I'm thinkin' $7/$8 maybe on a trade ...?
Bill, put your crash helmet on -- and take a look at this one.
rroyce, nobody was hurt in the accident. My friend was so disappointed that the insurance didn't total it. An older couple ran a red light and smashed their Cutlass into the Honda. The Honda's dashboard looked like an upside down V. The passenger seat was pushed into the console and cracked it. Honestly, the car is very quiet and solid and doesn't looked damaged or misaligned. The repair shop did a premo job on it.
Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to my friend. M.

....... Hmmmmmmm, that's interesting. I have seen 3,542 - 9's roll by me, I have never seen a cloth one. I have seen them in the Bahama's, Costa Rica, Mexico, etc. .. but all leather. Oh well, at least that guy bought a super nice vehicle -- he will love that S80 -- did he order that one with cloth too ..l.o.l..
So what kind of price was the dealer thinkin'...? He can't be that stuck ...
I'll give you as much info as i can this time. It is a 2002 honda civic LX, 2-door, black. It has power wndw/lks/mir/ CD player and its an automatic. It has exactly 5900 miles on it. The repair work was done very well, I will still have them buff out the paintlines, they did one but did not finish the other. The left front fender has alot of trash in the paint so I will have it repainted also. No mechanical damage. The upper tie bar was replaced, the right front rail was repaired and the apron was repaired. All parts are Honda OEM. My insurance company gave me 730$ for diminished value. I was expecting between 12-2000. I will have it appraised tomorrow and hopefully that figure will be higher. I had it appraised at Carmax and they offered me 10,200, without knowing about the frame damage. So, that leaves me with 6k on my loan, oh well, life is life. I appreciate the help. And I live in Georgia, and if you want to know also, the hood, both fenders, front bumper, imapct reinforcer, and the right front headlight are new. The wreck occured at an angle, my right front section collided with his right rear wheel well. The impact itself probably occured at 15-20 mph. The airbags did not go off.
I know this is the wrong forum for this; but, I also know this thread will have the audience I am looking for.
I know a guy with a couple of kids--a third may not be out of the question a couple years from now--and he's looking for a sedan. He wants a "nice" car--and he's looking to spend in the $30k range. Would like to keep it around 27 or 28, but may go to about 32 for the right car. He also wants the car to last a while in case they do have another kid, he doesn't want to have to trade it in a couple of years, in other words. He has his eye on a 1999 Acura RL for about $27,000. There is an Infiniti dealer nearby with a 1998 M-B E320 for 30. Just looking around I think one can get about a 1998 XJ8, LS400, 528i or a 1999 Q45 all in the range he's looking. Being a fan of buying new instead, I suggested a Hyundai XG350. Just kidding. Seriously, I see new Infiniti I35s for around $26,000--and I know a new Avalon would hit the price range as well. The 528i and I35--plus an Acura TL--may be a little too small in the back seat, though.
So, what would you suggest? I kind of like the RL as Hondas will generally run forever--plus it's the newest in the group. Thanks for your input.
93 Civic EX 143k teal green 5-speed coupe Clean overall with a few dings but no frame/paintwork It has the rear spoiler and the factory center console extension. What can I expect in trade? And do you think it would be an easy private owner sale here in the Atlanta area?

We're trading in our 1990 Buick Century (we've got to get rid of this thing!) because we're buying a new Mercury Mountaineer. The dealership said they would take it off of our hands. We've looked at values for the car that range from $200 - $2000. So, we just need to know what is reasonable. Thanks!

This car has definitely seen it's better days. It needs a paint job pretty badly and the it's about time for some new tires. But, the engine runs great and the AC is ice cold.

This will really depend on "how much" real frame damage is done.
Most of these types frames can be fixed to factory specs, how much quality and how close .. is a whole different story.
If you give us some more info on the vehicle, we can give you a good figure to work with.

$16 grand ....? gheeeeez, was anybody hurt ..?
I would have to think a blind man could spot this one ... the door jams alone, will sing like drunken sailors.
I don't know on this one .. miles are out of control and you have been hit by a meteorite ---- I really would have to see this gem .. I'm thinkin' $7/$8 maybe on a trade ...?
Bill, put your crash helmet on -- and take a look at this one.
$16 grand ..? American money ..?
Terry.
Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to my friend. M.

Thanks
Steven
I don't think they'll buy my story that I'm just reading used car prices on the internet!!
Terry, you're killin' me!!!!
Clean overall with a few dings but no frame/paintwork
It has the rear spoiler and the factory center console extension.
What can I expect in trade? And do you think it would be an easy private owner sale here in the Atlanta area?
Terry. :-)

This car has definitely seen it's better days. It needs a paint job pretty badly and the it's about time for some new tires. But, the engine runs great and the AC is ice cold.
Thanks for the help!
