Thinking about getting rid of my 2000 Honda Civic SI with 38,000 miles. It's in the metro Atlanta area, it's a non-smoker, black, 5-speed (of course it's the only way the SI was built), tinted windows, rear spoiler, sunroof, power everything, keyless. It's riding on almost new Michelins, is immaculate inside with no leftover souveniers from the local Mickey D's, and is perfect mechanically. It was in a small fender-bender so there is some paintwork on the rear quarter panel but there is no frame damage. It also has 2 small dings on the passenger side quarter panel. The most important thing is there is NO aftermarket equipment on it at all.
...... Ok, let's see whats going on here .. We have an SI, with a little post crinkle work and it's supposed to be clean.
Miles are a little stiff -- but, it has new sneakers and all the nice little toys, without all the nice little invasions and only baby kisses .... sounds ok.
Well, if you trade it .. you should be in the mid $13's, if you go down Retail rd start it up at $16,5 and let some nice person steal it from you for $14,5/$16 ...
..... Sounds like a nice one .. the right color, the right options, right miles, no-smoke, and cared for ...
These Q's are a funny breed .. "all dressed up" and no place to go. Not too hurt ones feelings but, these are not burning down any barns ... look for in and around $23 if it's just "bullet proof" ... if not, start deducting.
..... Bill is on here ... I feel $7 is the money, $7,5 would be wonderful, but don't count on it ---
But, if you get any "brain damage" at $6/$6,5 just leave and through it the paper for $8,9 and you will see $8+ all day long, in no time .... the miles are right and it's a LSI with all the options -- so, if it's nice, clean and needs -0-, then it becomes a "hard to find" ...
Here's one for ya to Hit. I put the ## on it, Wondered what ya thought (Rich, you too if yer reading this).
1998 A8 Quattro 4.2 Silver/Black guts. Had been heavily smoked in, whole front end repainted. Bunch of scratches..filthy filthy filthy. Even had some french fries in it (No kidding.. Ithought of ya). 95K miles. Bald tires, ck engine light on, ABS Light on. A real rat. I hit it at $14,000. Unfortunately, now we own it... I wonder what it does at Manheim...
Friend is looking at 99 Tahoe LT, 52k, white, beige leather, 4X4, CD, and clean in South Carolina. Been at the lot about 60 days. What will they get for cuttin' it from the herd? What would you offer?
Carman suggested I post this part of my lease buyout question here:
The residual is the buyout price of $15,495 for my 1999 Trooper. My buyout will be the first week of August and it will have about 43,000 miles by then. It's in very good shape with a couple of door dings and some scratches that I imagine I'd be charged for. It's a 4-wheel drive model with an automatic. The options are: nerf bars (like running boards), floor mats, cargo mat, bug shield, and a 6 disc, indash CD player. I've also added a trailer hitch, but I could take that off. I like the vehicle and will buy it if it's a good deal. I've looked in the newspaper here in Denver,CO and on-line on the Auto Trader. The lowest asking prices from private parties and dealers that I am seeing is about $17,500 with asking prices up to $19,000. Anything lower than $17,500 has a lot more miles. The TMV comes in much lower so I don't know if I should rely on say a value of $16,750 for August as a "market value". Here are my questions: 1)What is a good "market value # to compare to my buy out price of $15,495? 2)I will attempt to negotiate a lower price no matter what. What should I offer below the buy out. I'm thinking of offering $13,500 and accepting up to $14,500.
Thanks. I'll let you know how it turns out in August.
I have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra with 9,000 miles, but I'm not happy with it i want to trade it in for an SUV please tell me how much will the dealership give me on my trade in. Its is good next to perfect condition.

Bill, Buddy, Are You Okay? Medic!!
Ooooh doggy! 95k short miles ago, this was, what, a $70k car? Wow. $14k, that's pocket change (especially if it isn't MY pocket change).
Paint work? That ought to be interesting... IIRC, that's the one with the Al space frame, where major body work has to be performed by one of 20 authorized shops throughout the U.S. But what a wonderful car... if this puppy can be made right again, and be made to smell good again, and the brakes back to work (prolly no biggie) and the same with the engine control system.... how can that not be a $25k+ retail piece? The V8 is a cousin to the 2.8l; that's why the V6 is 90-degree instead of 60 (the cheapskates!). So it's not like parts are through the roof; the fuel injection stuff should be Bosch... Unless you need a new engine, I think you did well... you'll just have to spend some $$$ on it... maybe have somebody good check it out really well; preferably some full-time Audi guy.
I ask my Audi-driving friends, how do you spell doom?
Then I write down DooooM, with the four 'o's interlocked like the Audi rings. Hilarious, so long as it isn't me.

Own a red 1992 Infiniti G20, cloth, manual, 125k miles, one non-smoking adult driver, new tires, new clutch, new starter motor, clean interior, minor dings and chips on the exterior, no sunroof, cassette. Reliable commuter. Want to sell or trade-in on Infiniti G35. Suggestions?
Need an estimate on auction price. A 1999 BMW 328i with ~36k miles, auto, premium and sport packages, heated seats, silver on black. A friend can buy from Manheim to my specification. What should I specify as the max price?
My neighbors (couple, aged 33 and 28) have a car inherited from her mother they're considering selling to get a Jeep:
94 Buick Skylark Custom sedan (I know) 96k miles 3.1 V6, power windows/locks/tilt/trunk/cruise a/c, factory AM/FM stereo (no cass or CD) strange bright blue (close to royal, think Cubs hat; aka 'no sale')
This is a car nobody wants here on the north side. It runs fine, body looks great, interior fine; it isn't a silver Jetta, black Civic, or white Corolla, it's a bright blue Buick. And it suffers from TUS (terminally ugly syndrome).
I'm thinking of putting in a south side or suburban paper, but for how much? Thanx.
just for kicks i was thinking about trading my 2002 corolla for a 2003 corolla

but ABS sure will. Ok, so you're up north, so black is ok. Its got to be a $14K unit on the retail side, on a push, so you should be north of $11,500, or about a 4-5K diff on an 03,
Hey Bill and Terry. What kind of price would you put on this retail and trade in.

okay checked the payoff for the car $12895.49 my question is say i want to do the trade for 2003 corolla CE with auto/weather guard package and preferred accessory package. price on carsdirect is $14575 not included ttl.
my question is would i be taxed on 14575 or the difference with my trade example car $14575-$12000 equal tax on $2575.
also would dealer roll the $895 .49 into the price of the new car??
What is a fair trade on a 2000 Jetta GLS w/32000 miles. Black w/black interior. Manual Transmission, Monsoon Stereo, Luxury Package (moonroof, alloys, etc), and CD Changer in trunk. Interior is spotless and a few surface scratches on exterior, otherwise is great shape). I live in CT. Thanks in advance for any info.
Ok, let's see ... the color is great for the area, so you get a little help there -- it has a slider, wheels and "noise to go".. so you get some more help there.
Miles are a little stiff and a handshaker won't help your case .. So, if it's as clean and shiny as you think it is, the you should be in that $12's zipcode ...
know where you live, but in most states, you are only taxed on the trade difference. You should be able to roll the neg. equity into the new car with no problem. I don't think you're going to see the car you're looking for at the $14,575, though.
Well, I guess if you are going to go down ... you might as well go down in a blaze of glory .. l..o..l....
If you can bring this one back from the dead inside and out, you might see $16/$17 at the big M... but, it will have to be puuuurrrfect. This is a hard one too hit ... Ouch, good luck.
granted, the car could be 2 years old... It seems the new model years are released earlier and earlier each year. How much of the value of the car depends on miles, on a general basis? Granted, each make of car is different, a Toyota holds mileage better then a Pontiac.
For example, lets say I find an Infiniti I30 with 35,000 miles.... year 2001. Nothing wrong, just high mileage. What should I be concerned with? And how much does the value of the car drop? thanks, Brent TN,USA
When you look up a Trooper it doesn't show seperate levels - just the 4wd S. I thought the S was the 5-speed model. Mine has an auto trans and tutone paint - black over silver. It's not the luxury package with the moonroof, heated leather seats, monochrome paint, etc. Mine did come with heated mirrors though.
Also, I still do some autocrossing, but I'm more into opentracking now with my 93 Mustang. The plates on my Mustangs read: IAUTOX and IAUTOX2 (every one always asked my wife if she autocrossed and she always replied "I autocross too"). FYI, if your taking a vacation soon you can come to Cheyenne, Wyo and race through the streets. It's a blast with lots of spectators. I never miss it. I usually help put it on. The only down side is the it's on Father's Day Weekend and it always conflicts with the Mustang Round Up in Steamboat Springs, CO. I used to help put on their autocross on Friday and then drive overnight to Cheyenne, but I'd miss practice on Friday and the Media Autocross. Also I'm getting too old to give up that much sleep. I'm chief of novices this year. Take a look at www.cmc-rmr.com if you're interested.
Oh, the plates on the Trooper (remember the Trooper - this is about the Trooper) reads FN24WH. What's my other hobby?
Ok, so let's go on ... it's absolutely the right color, sport pack, it has all the stuff plus the airbag seats .. and most of all, it has no miles.
On the trade side, you are in and around that $40ish area, depending on the scratches. On the retail side, $46,500 ... and until I screamed uncle, that would get them $45/$45,5 -- these are nice rides, I drive a lot of em'.
Hi Terry! We have family here from all over this weekend, and of course the topic slid over to cars and such. My aunt has a 99 Chevy Malibu LS with 26k, v6, silver, grey cloth interior, spoiler, cd, power seat, wheels, keyless, fog lamps, real nice inside and out, non-smoker, tires look new and she has it cleaned and waxed all the time, 1 scratch on the rear bumper about the size of a pen, but its not through all the way (she got backed into at the mall).
Her dealer said on a trade, about $7,500 and he has plenty of them for that. This car is cleaner than ours, what do you think?
The next one, is her new "friend" car. It's a 97 4dr. Ford Contour LX, maroon grey int, V6, 39k, auto, pwr sunroof, power windows, locks, cruise, tilt, new tires about 10k ago, power mirrors, cd, this car gets the oil changed every 3k, in great shape, nicer than the Chevy, if that possible, no winters.
Again, thank you very much and we all hope you have a great weekend. M.
We are considering trading in the van and wanted to know what we could expect as trade in value.
The van has a 3.8 liter engine, leather seats, front & rear air, sport rims (honeycomb type), digital instrumentation, CD/cassette/radio, 2nd seat is a bench seat instead of captain's chairs and has approximately 120,000 miles.
What other information do you need to provide an estimated trade-in value?
Terry, thanks for the info. I read this site everyday and I know the importance of listing ALL of the information. When I see someone that leaves out something important, I think UH OH!
I can't believe I did it myself... so, can I come out of my room now.... I need a vodka tonic real bad! LOL.

...... That's ok ... you can come out now. Besides you will need someone to share that Vodka with and I have these really cool new tumblers ... l..o..l...
It's a 99, it has around 43k, it's a 4WD with an auto (thank goodness) ... in 99 they made an S and everything else was an option.
But anyway, you are lookin' in and around the the low $11's, the miles are a little on the stiff side. What this may be worth come August, is a different story --- And yes, I would try to negotiate the pay-off and see what happens ...
.... Good morning .. how are you ..? Sorry we missed Ya.
High milers are fine, you can save a lot of money on em', IF they have been - checked out service and history wise.
Value of vehicles are directly reflective of the mileage, a low mileage vehicle like a Infiniti, Chevy, Benz, Ford, etc, are worth a ton more than one with let's says, 35k after a year or two. If you know what your driving habits will be in 3/4 years, then this is a great way of saving $3/$4,000 at purchase time -- in your case, you should be able to purchase a 01, 30k I30 for "around" $21ish VS $24/$25ish with 10k ... so pick your poison.
for the insight. Your help is much appreciated. What would be a good mileage range for an '01.. nothing too out of the ordinary. What is the average you are seeing across the board? 15k-20k miles? or is that still a little steep? My guess is some of the '01's starting to hit the market are 2 year leases coming due.
I am trying to locate a late model car, and trying to get an idea of how mileage directly effects the value of the car. Found an Infiniti I30 w/ 35k, asking 25.9k, which seemed high to me b/c I have seen a few others for roughly the same price here and there, but they are hard to find. I would guess he has quite a bit less in it b/c of the high mileage. How are those doing regarding holding their value vs. other models in its class? How are they at the auctions? Hot or cold?

Since I will assume it has 150,000 miles.. around $20K
I suppose we ALL know the drill right?
No odometer reading?
Go to your room!
LOLBill
They had it 60 days 'cos it's got 52K miles and they're prolly asking a tripping-on-acid price of $23,995 or something.
They prolly got $18K-18,500 in it.
Start em at $18K.. but $19K/19,500 dang well better get 'er done.
Bill
Now, I'd LOVE to help you on your Trooper.
Is it an S? Limited? SE? LS?
Hmmm...
Do I send ya to your room or not? Hmm...
I need more info!
Bill
But now it is edgy and has a LOT of miles on it.
Rule #1: People want Hi-Line cars to be nice, OR they want to steal em.
It was a trade-in to us..arrgh..
Bill
Not enough info!
So we'll ASSUME that it's got Power windows, Locks, cruise, CD, Automatic.
$9K-9,500 as a trade. MAYBE $10K if the stars are alighned right I think...
But it be a $9500 car IMO.
Hope this helps!
Bill
Ask $3,900 and get $3,500. It is worth about $1,500 or so as a trade. MAYBE $1700 or so.
Bill
MINT?
Might take as much as $24K across the block. Maybe $24,500 or so.. these suckers are HOT.
Bill
Welol, miles seem ok I guess, it does have a V6... Its' a totally stiff car.
About as saleable as latex miniskirts were under the Taliban.
$1K as a trade-in if it is MINT.
Ask $2,900/bo.. $2300 or better throw keys and title at buyer and pray check clears.
Bill
$13,900 in the paper for $13,500.
Trade it for $12K.
Bill
Since you live in the old coloniy, we'll assume it is a 4x4, it IS, right? Good.
Its' worth, as a trade, $15,300 or so. You might try and push for upper $15s.. but its' not the wise man;s bet. I'd sign off at $15,300 myself.
Retail it yesself? $17,900/bo grab low $17Ks or better.

Thank you

It's a 99, it has around 43k, it's a 4WD with an auto (thank goodness) ... in 99 they made an S and everything else was an option.
But anyway, you are lookin' in and around the the low $11's, the miles are a little on the stiff side. What this may be worth come August, is a different story --- And yes, I would try to negotiate the pay-off and see what happens ...
Good luck ...
Terry.
I would think more in the $2/$2,5 range on the trade side .. can see an $3,5/$4,0 on the retail side after the smoke clears...
Terry.
thanks,
Brent
I'll gladly take a time out to my room.

Hot or cold?
thanks,
Brent
