...... Good question .. that's a hard one to answer clearly.

    Here's a close example .. 01 Aurora V8's, ultra clean, low milers for $25

Now, Millenia's are a super buy on the used side, Intrigues GLS is another and so is a Lincoln LS (probably the best buy on the market pound for pound) ..

The point is, there is a lot of great buys on that used side .. Time wise, that's hard to say ..

is in Maple Shade (just outside of Phila.). They recently had a red G20T advertised with a 5 speed for about the same price. I think it is gone by now though, but maybe not.

Wondering the trade-in value of my 92 Corolla. Mileage is 122K. (Location is the Carolinas.)

Color: Bright Red (not burg.) Paint is very good condition, very minor wear, shiny. Has the black bumpers and mirrors (bumpers are shiny--not felty.)
Interior: Grey cloth (minor fading on passenger side). Broken latch for glove box (have the parts). Very good condition.
Tires: Have 80K mile tires on it with about 40K left.
New radiator less than 1 year ago. (Also have done timing belt replacement maintenance. Have majority of maintenance records.)
    Air conditioning runs cold.

I have taken very good care of this car. Looks much better than most I see on the road. Don't want to be snookered, but know value is limited due to age.

Is this '92 Corolla an automatic or 5-speed? Any other options (cruise, power windows/locks, sunroof, stereo) on the car? Any notable rust or dents?

You should send it to Chicago, you could probably get about $2500 for it.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
...and complete with the Rudge knock-off wheels.

There's someone in or near Chicago who's been trying to sell a '55 300SC coupe (one of two made, he claims). It's been in the Chicago Tribune for months, he wants serious offers over $125k. Anyone know anything about this car?

Sorry, I know this is the wrong place for this discussion.

That should bring a buck or two .. I think, this was the one that was in the Dupont Registry a couple of months ago ..

..... I guess I don't have to tell ya, the miles are just a little on the high side ...

What will make the difference, is the condition .. if it's a nice vehicle, clean, looks towards 99, no Chicago tribune papers from 97 in the back seat, then you should be around that $4/$4,5 figure ...

I'm trying to figure out whether I should buy my car off the lease or turn it in.

9-3 SE 5 door, 5 speed, Metallic Silver, all the options. 50,000 miles. Needs 3 new tires. Have 2 good snow tires and 2 that need to be replaced as well. A few minor wear and tear scratches and chips. Interior in great condition. May be looking at an additional $300-500 in repairs and $750 in additional mileage. Original value 31,200. I paid 13,494 in monthly payments and put about 1,800 down. The residual is 16,817. Chase has offered me the car for 15,033 plus tax less security or $15,889. I know they will only get 13,500 at auction but they won't go any lower than 15,033 because of their residual insurance.

Any thoughts? I originally wanted to buy it and re-sell so I could get a new 9-5.

In Bay area. 45K Miles, 5 speed, Blue w/ tan interior. Good condition, CD, etc. Whaddya think its worth?

Also, considering BMW 3 series convertibles but they seem to not depreciate (98's and 99's with the old body style). In your opinion, are the values of older BMW's worth the numbers or do the newer models represent more value?

Thanks again for you help, this is the best forum on Edmunds..

.... The miles are a little on the stiff side ..

It's a GT and a Convert .. both reeeaall popular right now. It's a good color combo, and the handshaker won't hurt this one ...

So, if it's a "stand tall" vehicle all the way around -- Ya know, knee deep, needs -0- and lookin' 02 .. then the dealer probably has close to $16ish in it, with a this and a that and a Partridge in a pear tree .. So, I'm thinkin high $17's will drag it home. But, start him up at $16,5 and see what kind of dead Mullet look you can get, the miles are no help here ... l.o.l...

    Thanks for the compliment ...!

Thanks for the info on the corolla (post 7607.)

Here's the info you asked about. It is automatic. Straight base DX model--no options that you mentioned (has air conditioning, power steering, factory radio). No rust. One "ding" on left rear door less than dime size, less than 1/16" deep. Two small chips (smaller than eraser on pencil), one thin scratch on hood about an inch long, one scrape on rear near trunk. The chips and scratches went through only first layer of paint (like a chip on clear coat). These damages are very unnoticable, but are there.

Your estimate of $2500 is in line with my thoughts. Wanted to ask since the guide prices varied so much and I'm not an expert.

rebuild title, 16k miles. v8 club cab. what's a fair price for this? How much does the title defect hurt the value?

Since this is my first post on Edmunds Town Hall, I would like to start by saying "Hi". I have been reading these boards for quite some time now, and am finally posting! I am considering selling one of my cars, and would like to know the value, selling as a private owner, not trading.

    1998 Toyota Corolla LE
    61,000 miles
Auto, beige cloth interior,A/C, PW, PL,keyless with alarm, factory power sunroof, daytime running lights, AM/FM/Cassette/CD,side airbags, new tires have about 2,000 miles on them, tinted windows.
Color is Burgundy. Other than the usual front paint chips and a couple dings, car is in great condition. No cruise control. No accidents.

I am the 2nd owner, car is located in the Atlanta area.

Oh yeah, it has the gold package....easy now, I bought it used and it came that way!

I appreciate any thoughts on asking price and what I should sell for.

    Thank you!

I don't know how popular older Corollas are in the Carolinas, but they're very popular here in Chicago. Check your local papers, see if there's anything remotely similar and go from there. Your miles (122k) are normal for a ten year-old car, and people generally aren't detracted if it's a Toyota. I'd start around $2700 (again, check your paper), and be OK with taking about $2250 or so. DO NOT go below $2k for any reason, it sounds like a nice car you've good taken care of.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Hi Steve and welcome, it's always nice to see new folks come aboard, maybe we can answer a question or two ...

For starters, the miles are ok., for the year. Those who know these vehicles .. know, that it's good for another 100,000+, color is ok, new sneakers, auto and all the power stuff -- no cruise ..? odd for an LE ..

If you have been reading, you know the first steps .. clean it up, make it look like a diamond, real nice 4/5 liner in the Hotlanta paper.

So, if this little puppy is nice, clean air will blow you into Charlotte, then drop it in at
$8,9 and let some engineer take it home for $7,8/$8,5 ...

Thanks for a great description ..

..... Our boy Ghulet is right on the money here .. it's hard to find, nice, clean vehicles today for $2,500 or less that will run for any length of time, especially imports.

You should be able to snatch that Cake with no problem.

...... Oooooh, rebuild titles are tougher than my, mother-in-laws meatloaf ... Noooo, help there.

I would have to know some history on this "lost child" .. but, probably in and around $10 maybe a little more, maybe a little less depending on the history. 2WD ..?

Rebuild and Salvage titles are not a good thing .. Me, personally, I would rather jump out a Lear 25 without a chute. l.o.l...

...... Oooh kay .. a little Sidekick, click, click, click, click, going to a Expedition.

Wow, now that's a big change .. l..o..l... On the Zuki, in and around $1,5 or so, miles and handshaker, no help there. The Expedition (2WD .. right.?), you should be around $20ish. If you can trade em' for "around" $18,5ish and your vehicle, that would make for a good deal on both sides.

If you decide to go down Retail rd. on the Zuki .. maybe $3,900 in the Miami Herald ..$2,5/$3,0 and cut it from the herd. These are funny little vehicles, not a big market in FL .. try the trade route first ...

    Good luck ...

I have the chance to buy a 2000 Civic SI with 29,000 miles. It's the "electric" blue with dark grey interior. The interior is spotless. There is a scratch on the hood and the front bumper needs to be realigned. The previous owner has aftermarket headlights in it and has had it lowered. Otherwise it is stock. It's on the verge of needing tires. How much is this worth wholesale?

Second question, do you think a price of $13,500 will get my current SI sold pretty quick? It's black, 39,000 miles, new tires, no aftermarket equipment at all, and it's in good shape with the exception of 2 small dings in the rear quarter panel.

    Thank you.

..... Sounds nice, got all the right toys's .. heads-up, dual roofs, fat daddy F45 to go with ...

You better be a Yankee boy with the triple black, lot's of miles on this puppy. Vette's are pulling big Jingle right now, but it's gotta be a "baby doll" .. no scratches on the front and rear fascia, interior has too look like it's been "hovered" in -- clean to the bone and knee deep.

Miles will flat kill ya here .. in and around $29 ..maybe, on a trade. .. sorry.

I have a 92 Accord EX, black, with 125k miles. There's some body damage - one door is a little dented from a hit-and-run parking lot incident - and a sizeable soy sauce stain on the front passenger floor. It runs well, though, and has new tires. What would be a fair trade-in price? I'm in Atlanta. Also, if the brakes are on their way out, should I have them fixed before trading it in?

    Thanks!!!
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... These are also great little pocket rockets .. a well built, quality vehicle and they look good too.

Your is a ES, a slider and from what your saying . . looks new.

Personally, I would kick the warranty .. it runs to 50k anyway and use that money on the next vehicle.

On the trade side, high $10's .. on the Retail side, $13,9 in the paper, and let some nice Secret Service guy steal it off your hands for $12,7/$13,5 ...

This morning I went and looked at a Mazda 626 for sale in my neighborhood. 1994, LX, 79,000 miles. Hand shaker, knee deep in rubber. The seller gave me the key and said take it for a while, so I took it for a spin on the highway and took it home and looked it over.

Here's what I can see that's wrong with it:
    1. The paint job isn't very good. He mentioned the previous owner had it repainted. There is also a little hail damage on the trunklid. The cover where one of the fog lights would go is missing. One of the headlight lenses is cracked and has moisture inside.
    2. The clutch is kind of stiff and engages near the top of the travel. (It's a 5 speed, not auto, which is good). Is this normal, or a sign of truoble?
    3. It looks as though the battery exploded at some point. There's a bunch of rust and acid splatter under the hood, and it even looks like it got on the windshield too.
    4. The power antenna is broken and does not go up and down. You can hear the motor running for a while when you start or shut off the car. Anyone know if I could replace the antenna with a fixed one and disconnect the motor?
    5. The owner mentioned tha check engine light has been coming on for the past 8 months. He took it in to an independant import repair shop but they could find no problem. Any ideas?
    6. Minor oil leak.
    7. The rear view mirror is mounted off-center, so the sun visor on the driver's side hits it. Annoying but minor.

The good points: New tires, he said the timing belt has been replaced, drives and sounds great, good stereo, ice cold air. Even though the paint job is not that great, from 6 feet away it looks great. Dark green with tan interior, which I like.

They are moving out of state on Tuesday and he wants to get rid of it. He was asking $2900, but he told me he would take $2000. After looking at it it's not the bargain I thought it was, but still, doesn't seem bad for the price. What do you think? Screaming deal, fair price, or run away?

    Hello,

I am considering trading in my 1999 Nissan Maxima (SE Sedan, sports model) and I was wondering if I should trade it in or try and sell it on the open market first. Any advice would be most appreciated. The stats for the car are as follows:

1999 Nissan Maxima 4 Dr SE Limited Sedan
    Miles: 24, 102
Interior: Leather with full "Gold" package (BOSE speakers etc.)
    Colour: Dark Green
    Driven: City of Chicago

Thanks a lot. I may keep it or sell it, the current loan has about $12,000 left on it.

I'm contemplating trading in my '02 Camry SE V6 with 10,500 miles on it for a Honda CRV. What can I realistically expect to get for this car (trade-in or private party). As for the engine, of course, no problem. I've had the front fender replaced due to me rolling over a jagged rock. There are some light scratches that someone more skilled than I could probably buff off. Had the windows tinted, Pkg. 3, cargo net, floor mats. Any assitance is appreciated.

Ok, need some advice as to if this really is a good deal, or not. Someone I know is in a bit of financial difficulty, and is trying to sell me their 2002 Mazda Protoge5 with 11,000 miles. Here are the details.

Color is black,5 speed,A/C,PW,PL,keyless, alloys, not sure if it has ABS, no sunroof, black cloth interior. Has an aftermarket intake, and after market exhaust. Exhaust might only be the muffler, not sure. Also, owner says he spent $3,000 on the aftermarket stereo, which is very nice by the way, but does not matter to me. I know this does not really add any additional value to the car. I will probably sell the stereo anyways.

Car has some dings on the left rear quarter panel, and the right rear quarter panel. Also, rear bumper needs replacement because of some dings and scratches. Tail gate also has a small ding that looks like it can be repaired by dent wizard, without any paintwork.

He wants to sell quick, and has offered to me for $12,000, but I think that he will take $11,000. I have seen some for sale, which range from $16,000 to $18,000. My question is: is this really a great deal? After all, I can have the small things repaired, and still have a practically new car for a great price. Your thoughts? Car is located in Atlanta.
  • bretfrazbretfraz Member Posts: 2,021
Hell, I'd buy it and don't even need it. The new tires and cold A/C make it a deal right there. Most of the problems seem cosmetic. A new clutch is what.... $500 installed? The check engine light can be any number of things but prolly nothing serious otherwise it would be on constantly. The pwr antenna can be fixed but needs disassembly and its prolly easier to replace it with a $10 mast antenna.

Don't forget, there's always a ready market for $2000 cheap transportation. Find a cheap fix for the clutch, clean up the battery mess as best you can, and you can drive it for free for the next couple years.

    I say grab it.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I haven't seen a 626 newer than '92 for that cheap. Also, 5-speeds are more desirable in this car (to me, and also because the autos are problematic) and hard to find. 79k miles? Fine for a '94. Go for it, even if it needs a few bucks thrown at it, sounds like a good deal. If you have doubts, take $50 and the car to a mechanic and have it looked over.

I looked at 2 today at local dealer. both lease turn ins, looked extremely clean, drove blue one no glaring problems on short test drive.

    1st one 21k price. 9k miles, blue, 4.6
    2nd one 18k price. 37k miles, white,4.6
both similarly equipped, cd player, bedliner.

Where should I be on these If I decide on one?

Recently tried to negotiate on a new A4 Quattro 1.8 sedan. My trade is a '99 1.8 Avant with only 13,000 miles (w/Sport package, Bose, Cold Wx package, sunroof). Midwest N.A.D.A. trade value (including low mile bonus and 5-speed penalty) is $19,300...dealership (where I originally bought the prospective trade) offered $17k. (We had agreed on 5% over invoice for the new one.) Obviously they're trying to steal my trade. Thoughts?
