Excellent condition mechanically. Paint chips (approx. 1/8 inch) on driver door and hood. Non-smoker.
North of Boston.
Dealer offered $15,000. Have seen varying amounts on different web sites.
Thanks
OR,
Might that be a 6 ...?
(foot tapping.!)
Terry.
The miles are a little stiff and it's a 2WD -- but it's loaded up, and if it's a nice one, "clean to the Bone" .. then you should be in and "around" the $28ish figure on a trade.
If you go down the path to meet up with "Retail Rd." .. then $31,900 in the paper and $30,5/$31,5 is a good figure -- all you gotta do is find someone that likes green.
Terry :-)
Joe
Thanks
But it's an auto, that's a good thing .. I can't tell where you are from, by the profile.
Area and miles on a vehicle like this, can make a big difference, the big killer here is the miles and if you live south with the color .. what area do you hang your hat .?
Terry.
Right now, with all the programs with Honda, you can buy a new one for about that .. you are kinda in a Limbo position.
Terry.
If it's as nice as you say it is .. service is right, interior is right, outside is right .. all is right with the world, etc. Then I would drop it in the paper for $7,900 .. and you should see $6,5/$7,5 ...
You have my interest now, so let us know.
Terry.
Hmmmm, $15,0 seems a little cheap, perhaps more towards the $16 range, but if it needs tires and $4/$500 of this and that, then they are probably right on -- the enemy here is the miles, it just kills it. If it had like, 20/30k, it would do $20,0 on a trade. ... sorry.
Try to retail it .. make it look new, have any service done. Then in the paper for $19,950 and you should see in the $19's...
Good luck ...
Terry.
We just had the tires and brakes checked - more than half-life left.
Like I said, a few paint chips on the door and hood.
We added a remote starter for brutal heat (like a week or so ago) and bitter cold (only a few months away)
I knew that the dealer would give us a lower number that what we wanted, but I was really surprised to see 15k written down.
At this point I'm not sure if we will continue to shop it around or if we'll just stay with it.
Thanks again.
It's 3.8L V6, dark-med green, power locks, ABS, luggage rack, power windows, power mirrors. Cruise control, privacy glass, 2 built in child seats, dual air and rear defroster. It has 63,000 miles on it. It's in very clean condition, never wrecked, very few dings, interior is in good condition.
I live in SE Texas
Any value ideas? Thanks
GL .. Or .. LX ...?
Terry.
Second Sliding Door, Cruise Control, Quad Seating, Infinity AM/FM CD Cassette and EQ., Dual AC (Driver/Passenger Control), Rear AC, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Tilt Wheel, Power Drivers Seat, ABS, Dual Front Air Bags, Towing Pkg, V6 3.8L Automatic,Privacy Glass, Roof Rack. (about the only thing it does not have is Leather Seats and a sun roof). It is a one owner, no-smoking vehicle in good condition. Down side is it is one of the first '97s to roll off the line so it is a considered high mileage vehicle at 98,000.
Any thoughts on what a realistic Trade in value might be?
Right options, right engine .. all the stuff and a "Partridge in a pear tree" ---
Oooooh, those miles are the bad option here ... ouch. On a trade, in and around $3,0
Might do a little better down Retail Rd, clean it up make it look like a 99 inside and out, drop it in the Orlando Sent for $5,995 and you should see $4,7/$5,500.
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
Another good description .. Thanx.
In your case, the miles are a ultra big help .. If, it's knee deep in rubber and lookin' 99ish, no parking lot kisses and no Mcdonald invasions, then you should be in and around that $3,5/$4ish figure.
I'm not standing next to it, but if it's a nice one, this would definatly sell well on the retail side, cuz it has No miles for the year. .. $6,900 in the paper and $5,5/$6,5 should send it down the road.
Terry.
00 2wd
blk/tan
44k mi
tv/vcr
cd stacker
aluminum/not chrome
no slider
no ac seats
but minus one small area on the rear bumper, the rest of the paint is perfect, much better than any other i've seen, the interior is prob the cleanest i've seen, the tv comes up out of the rear of the front center consol w/ full remote control, two wireless headsets, brand new michelins (prob saw the recall comin), new front brakes, the only thing i found wrong w/ it was the rt front fog light had some condensation in it, figured that'd be under warranty (5k left)
so, the dlr is asking $26,700+$200 doc fee, non negotiable
i wanted a few less miles, but the condition is pretty good so i guess i wanted to run it by you guys, since he wasn't giving me any additional incentive to buy it yesterday and I would have to come back anyway
survey says???

Well anyway, that stuff about Edmunds is not true .. They are also good in India and some area's of the Faulklands -- l.o.l... just kidding.
Just punch in your zip like Karz said, and you will be fine .. they may not be the most accurate but at least you can get a pretty good idea of what's going on, far more than any KBB.
These Celica's are funny little ducks .. either you have a buyer or you don't. These are Not, Toyota's most popular .. so the market is small if you are on the selling end.
In your case, these prices "seem" to be on the Xtra low side. I would run a Carfax on both before any decisions....
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
Hmmmmm, let's see how to approach this .. the vehicle, believe it or not, is worth some Jingle.
You won't get any help from the handshaker .. and "all in all" the miles are not too bad for the year. On a trade, you should be in and around $2,0/$2,5 figure on a trade depending on the condition.
Terry.
Right color (for the area) , right options, V8, tow pack .. If it's a clean one, no "click, click" on the 4WD, no bears livin' in the back seat and lookin' 98ish .. you should see the high $5,0's on a trade -- this would probably sell FAST on the retail side ...
Give it some thought ...
Terry.
Sounds like, you looked this one over Big Time .. which is a good thing.
Survey Says:
If I was takin' this on trade (based on what you have told us) .. it's a 00, it's 2WD, 44k ( a little large) .. no chromes, no slider, no butt warmers. But, all and all a pretty nice Driver ...
I would hit the vehicle at $23,5 .. service $200, detail $100 , a this and a that $150, pack $300. Soooo, I would be into the vehicle for around $24,250 , gotta make $1,500.
SO, $25,750 .. so figure $26 + the $200, that's fair for both.
You guys are right on top of each other ..
Terry.
Anyway, hence the non-negotiable and no incentive to me to wrap the deal up that day, it sounded just a tad on the high side and I was surprised we couldn't do a better deal that day, considering I came from a distance etc., and it was already late and I didn't feel very sharp about making a decision that wasn't a no-brainer.
So I guess I gotta decide if I want to keep looking or meet his price, thanks for the feedback!!!
Karz
Here goes, its a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo SE, light driftwood satin glow/gray, 73K, 6-cyl, auto, infinity gold system am/fm cass, steering wheel audio controls, fog lights, dual pwr seats, ice cold a/c, pwr windows, locks, heated mirrors, auto dimming rear view mirror, overhead console with trip computer, knee deep in rubber and it looks like an '01. Soooo, what's it worth trade and retail?
Also, what are 30K chrysler awd minivans doing on the block? Thanks bud.
All I can say is, every dealer "hit's" a vehicle a little different, then the next guy .. plus, every dealer has a "certain" profit margin they are going to hit or close to.
I'm not defending them, but everyday is a "different" day than the one before .. who knows, maybe this was a customer that has bought 5/6 vehicles from them and they dumped an Xtra $500/$800/$1,000 into the trade -- you never know sometimes.
I got a call from a HUGE Ford Dealer last Tuesday at 9 PM, he was trying to put a deal together on a Excursion and wanted me to put a figure on a 01 SVT Lightning red Pickup w/5k on it -- I certainly don't have a want or need for one of those right now .. l..o..l.. So, I hit it at $22k, next thing Ya know, I'm an owner. But, I had it sold the next day.
Every store is a world all it's own ..
Terry.
Hows things in Moose country ..?
Gheeez, dumping another one. Huh.?
Lets see here, you say it's clean and it's knee deep -- it's the right color, if there is such a thing in Alaska .. it has all the toys and all the stuff (ice cold air, hahaha) .. its the 6, better if it was the 8, but it will sell with the 4X4, that's for sure. Miles are stiff, but for your area just about average, or so I'm thinkin'.
These things right now, are kinda all over the place (here) .. I'm guessing the high 8's, low $9's on a trade.
Now, if you go down Retail Rd. in Alaska, that's going to be a whole different story .. how about $21,900 .. nope too much ..? ..l.o.l...
I'm guessing, based on what you have told me in the past, and this one has "eyes" - $13,9 and I would guess $12,8/$13,5 .. what do you think ..?
The 02 AWD TC LXI's are doing "around" $25 at the block with 2/5/8k ... So, now what. l.o.l..?
Always good to hear from you ...!
Terry.
I think that wasting $16K paying it off is kinda silly especially with the miles on it, in less than a year it will be over 100K. Then again I'm rather attached to it, gonna have to think about this one.
Soooo, how much of a minivan can I buy for $16K, what's a good one for the money?? I kinda want awd and less than 30K on it (ya know....warranty).
i dunno if he budges a dime, i'm ready to get this over with, but only on a clean one like this, we'll see
karz
The miles are a little stiff .. but, if it has new sneakers, little or few kisses - and it's clean inside and out, you should be around the high $11's, might see $12 if it is like new.
good luck ..
Terry.
So if it's a clean one .. around the high $13's ...
Terry.
Long time-listener, first-timer post. First I want to thank you both for all the great info you have provided. Pricing used cars is very hard for us amateurs.
My mother-in-law is looking at a 2000 Chrysler 300M. It has full power, silver, 18K miles, located in Dover, DE. (Leather, chrome wheels, power slider, etc.) The dealer is asking $23,900. However, Edmunds listing wholesale/private party/retail as $16.5K/$18K/$20K, respectively.
Could you please let me know both the wholesale, and a good retail price for this car?
Thanks for your help.
Jim
00 BMW 323I Sport Wagon
Silver/Gray Leather
27K miles
Slider
Manu-matic
Some minor scratches - no dents/dings
2 new matching Continental tires on rear
Front tires look ok.
Tracton control and heated power seats.
Asking almost $28K.
At a Honda dealer north of Boston - this dealer is the "Honda Giant" and sells everything from Kias to Porsches - even has a Vespa dealership.
It damaged my radiator, hood, bumper, the passenger front wheel was pushed into the fender, in this car the intake is located near the front of the car so that was damaged, if you look under the car you can see that the exhaust pipe is bent, my airbags deployed, and there are other misc. electricals that were probably damaged (ABS system, AC system, etc.). If for some reason this car is NOT totalled what is a fair diminished value claim? What would it be worth perfect vs. the kind of repairs it's going to need. The car is located in Atlanta and had less than 1600 miles on it.
Its a 2002 Dodge Ram V10, quad cab, long bed, 4X4, ST, white/gray, spray in bedliner, 8500 miles, no a/c, am/fm cass, no pwr anything, its pretty basic. Its perfect inside and out, still smells new. What's this bad boy worth on both sides?? Thanks.
i have some ideas:
geo prizm-found a 1995 with 54k for 2000 dollars!!!!! (my girl friends car probably is going to die soon, so offered to buy it for her and i but now its gone because she didnt think we should call on it and now its too late)
so if you had 2k burning a hole in your pocket and wanted something reliable what would you buy????
Terry.
Terry.
What is the amount of damage that was claimed on the vehicle.?
Any frame damage .?
Terry.
But not that popular .. l.o.l...$28 .??
These Bimmers have a "big" retail book .. these are similar to the Land Rovers, big book - small trade-in.
Let's go absolutely goofy nut's here ... Aaaaah, they put $23 into it, "certified" it $800, service $200, detail $100, stuff $150, pack $500 .. if they went nuts, they couldn't have $25,000 into it .. $26,5 would be ALL the money on this puppy, I mean all of it ...
I'm thinkin' more of a figure of between $25 and $26, plus ttl is more in the "real world".
Hey, let us know ...
PS. I do love those little Vespa's ..
Terry.
Could you please let me know both the wholesale, and a good retail price for this car?
