December is probably too long, especially considering all of the July, August and September press this care received. In December they'll being to talk about the 2003 Model year cars to be introduced in early 2002.
Nissan will want the SE-R out there sooner rather than later because the Vibe/Matrix, Civic Si, and Ford Focus SVT wil be out by 2/2/02.
The Elantra GTs selling at sticker is an indication of how good the car is. I still wouldn't pay sticker price though. But anybody shopping for a Sentra GXE would be wise to look at the Elantra GLS. The Elantra's resale is low, but then so is its initial price, but it feels anything but cheap. The Sentra's resale price is nothing to rave about either. As a former Sentra owner (and fan), I must confess that having driven both, the Elantra seems like a significant step up in driving capability.
Huh? Sounds to me that it's a sign of how guillible the buyers are. Why pay sticker for a Hyundai when you can get a Nissan, Toyota or Civic at, below or near invoice?
I just purchased a 2001 Sentra SE w/Performance Package and a Sunroof. The color is radium. I think I got a pretty good deal. Ended up paying $15,657, which is about $200 over invoice. This is my first new car so I am very excited! I have had the car for about a week now and all I can say is that I love it! I wanted to thank everyone who posts on this board since I basically read the entire message history before I bought the car. I was debating between the SE and the Protege and I must admit that the opinions stated here really helped me make my decision. Thanks again!

Pat said I could include my thoughts on the pricing articles, so here goes...
In short, the base SE-R is set at $15,999 and the Spec V will start at $16,999.
The SE-R has a good base price, but when you start to add options like (A/T, ABS, Moonroof, and 6 disc changer -which requires the obnoxious audio fanatic package) the price climbs to just under $20,000.
That is a lot of money for a Sentra. I am now wondering whether the extra 30HP over the Protege is worth the extra two grand.
I mean, if the dealerships (In Baltimore, MD) are marking the base GXE's up $3,000, then what can they be expected to do with the SE-R?
I replied to you just now trying to explain how to post a link - do let me know if I can help any further.

Sure, it'll go down in price, but when? Carmax hasn't even begun to discount the Altima yet and most dealers around here respond to their pricing.
I look at it this way, the WRX was way out of everyone's price range when it debuted,b ut this one ought to dominate the under 20K sport sedan market. And, the fact that they are opnly making 25,000 SE-R's a year doesn't help with supply.
Why, does invlice or TMV pricing not show when I go onto the 2002 Nissan pages?
BTW, the Protege won the comparison test, despite being way underpowered compared to the others. As a result, I'm sure there have been a few hundred "we're #1" posts in the Protege forum already. If you buy a Spec-V, be sure to wave to the Protege owners as you're passing them. ;-)
Oh, and BTW, I found an Irvine dealer selling WRX's for 1200 over invoice at launch. You just gotta look around for these things. Or live near large urban markets.
What price did you agree to with your order? What time frame did they give you? Also, what the heck is the sport package?
The only options for the SE-r Spec V are the moonroof, the 6 -CD changer, ABS/SIAB, and Audio Fanatic.
Both SE-R's come with the standard 180 watt single CD system. To get the changer you need to order the Rockford system. Combined they total $948.
Finally, only the Spec V will have the hideous (IMHO) orange interior. The base SE-R will have something called "Midnight sport cloth." I haven't seen a photo of that yet.
To all 2001/2002 Sentra owners: How's the car been treating you? Has it been reliable and would you recommend it?
Thanks for any feedback!
The pricing of the Spec V has put it squarely in my price range. I'm still trying to decide between it and a used late model GSR or Prelude. I've been looking for the other two for almost 2 months now, and it's hard to find either one--or at least one that hasn't been modified or look like it's been driven through a war.
I have a 2001 SE. It's an extremely reliable car; I don't think you can go too wrong with the current Sentra. You may be aware that it has had two recalls, though: one for the detective front suspension bolts, and one for some problem with the standard steel wheels (doesn't affect the SE, which has alloys). Check to make sure these have been taken care of if you buy one. They're both problems involving parts from suppliers, so I don't think they inticate a fundamentally flawed design or anything.
My only real criticism is I've found the interior plastics to be a bit on the buzzy side on rough roads, but I have the Performance Package, which has a firmer ride. A GXE might have less of a problem with this.
Also, since the SE is being phased out for the SE-R, you might want to look out for a deal on one of those rather than a GXE. You get four-wheel discs, more standard equipment, more powerful engine, etc. A base SE and a loaded GXE can't be too far apart, price-wise.

I like the car but what worries me is in the choice of one interior color for each model. The SE-R gets a "stone cloth" that looks realyl khaki colored. As mentioned before, the Spec V gets the "Lava cloth" that looks pretty bad.
As far as the fuel discussion goes...There isn't too much of a difference, but for those who want killer fuel economy, power isn't a big deal. It is a trade off.
thanks!
I'll go 1st. These were the qualities, I looked for when shopping.
1.) Roomy Interior-
2.) Value Pricing-
3.) Attractive Styling-
Thank you in advance!
Repectfully,
Larry
1. Bang for the buck
2. Fuel economy
3. Reliability
Styling is subjective...
Should I buy a Gsr 2001 for $ 19500.00 Its's loaded? SER runs $18,787 and Spev V with sun roof and ABS $19000.00(no leather like GSR)
Thanks buying a car is worse than going to the dentist.
The Spec V with sunroof and ABS is more like 19.5K because you HAVE to get the improved stereo in order to get a sunroof on the Spec V. Keep in mind the SE-R's aren't even at dealers yet, and will probably be in limited quantity for the first month or so. So don't expect prices below MSRP at first. Also, I don't know what I think about those "lava" colored seats in the Spec V.
HP is similar on Spec V & GSR, but the SE-Rs should have more low end torque. I'm not recommending anything until I test drive one though(I've already driven a GSR and liked it). I might suggest you do likewise.
Can't belive Nissan has a better design and the SE-R could compete with a GSR Integra.
In Oct. of 1997 for me, I picked a new '98 Dodge neon Sport 2-door, loved the car, except mechanically it was crap, traded in 5/2000.
1.) Decent looking Interior- (you look at that every day, Civic was too econo box, Escort ZXR radio/HAV controls UGLY, Sentra styling too plain. Like the new one.. except wheres the 2 door! They missed the boat for me with that!
2.) Value Pricing-
3.) Attractive Styling-
6-speed manual transmission

leather steering wheels and shift knob
sport-style front fascia with mesh grille

chrome exhaust tip
firmer springs and shocks
front strut tower brace
17" wheels shod with 215/45R17 tires
4-wheel disc brakes
ABS option
Side airbags option

I have a '95 Sentra GXE and about once/3months, the dang thing will not want to start...Usually on a cooler morning.. Everything sounds fine except that it sounds like their is no Fuel getting thru. I have to keep it floored and finally enough trickles in to start it...Then it is fine for another 3 months. Nissan said there was a service notice of some sort on the fuel pump, and "adjusted" it. My mechanic says there is nothing wrong with fuel pump and that the computer codes read fine. Nissan says the only thing left it could be is the computer chip....
anyone else have this prob??? If not, can you point me to the other Sentra message board??? I can't find it....
thx
