Im glad my 03 V6 isnt showy like the Mazda 6. I dont need all those ground effects to make people think my car is fast.
  • justinjustin Member Posts: 1,918
i HATE all the ground effects that other car makers use. only cheapens the look in my opinion. for the first time in my life, i think Honda made a smart styling decision with a car.

actually, i did enjoy the 92 Accord in that teal green color, but that was over 10 years ago.

I just came from the dealer. A salesman told me the V-6 Accord - Six speed will hit 0-60 in just 4.2 seconds. Can anyone confirm this? This would make it faster than most any sports car including the Vet.
I was at the dealer to attend to a check engine light on my 1999 Odyssey. They said the EGR valve needed replacing since it was failing. Upon ordering one and replacing it, they now say I need an oxygen sensor, which they will order. I am thankful after 60,000 miles that Honda Customer Service has offered to pay for the work.
Honda has extended the warranty for some problems on the EGR system to 8/80,000.
Thank you Honda for sticking behind you vehicles.

Beefed up tires / brakes, some cosmetic upgrades inside and maybe a slightly upgrade nose/tail (ie a little more chrome ect.). Hey, I'm no fan of over done cars but if I shell out for the V6 I'd like to see just a touch more than different rims and tail pipe.

The front spoiler and rear "low" spoiler for our Accord. With the fog lights and tint it'll be our high speed cruiser.

Back to those XM Radio antennas for a minute, if you please. I was looking at one on a GM car (unpainted of course) on the way to work today. It occured to me that the exposed antenna has as much to do with marketing the product as recieving the service. You see it on a car, ask what it is, go to their website to get more info, look into an adapter for your current car, buy one on your next car installed.

Out of sight would be out of mind...

If more money was the criteria, not all I-4 trims cost less than a V6 model. Accord EX-L is priced higher than Accord LXV6. What you get for the additional price is additional features with a less powerful engine. Obviously, a valid comparison would, then, be between EX-L and EXV6 or LX and LXV6.

When you choose to shell out more money for V6, are you shelling out enough to expect substantial changes? I can’t speak for 2004 model at this time, but if you compared 2003 EX-L to 2003 EXV6, besides the more powerful and smoother engine, you got,
Safety: Traction Control & Side Curtain Airbags
Convenience: Passenger side Power Seats & Homelink Transmitter
Cosmetic: Different Alloy wheels and Twin-exhaust

IMO, a $1200-1400 worth of price difference is well covered, especially when you consider that you’re basically paying for 50% more powerful and smoother engine. Now, compare to the competition.
  • justinjustin Member Posts: 1,918
i always thought the more expensive version was supposed to be more elegant looking, not the other way around.

with Mazda, if you pay more, you get awfully close to Pontiac body panels. if you pay less, you get a nice looking car.

with Accord, you get a nice looking car everytime.

Called the local honda dealer today. They want 80 something for the splash guards and another 80 something in labor to put them on. Made the decision easy to do it myself. Ordered them from a well known online accessory story for 60 something..labor = Free! Has anyone tried to paint them to match the car? Would the paint just come off down the road? I have the graphite pearl so the black will blend in pretty good..but just curious.

Once your front spoiler is installed, tell us how you liked it!

Just to have a slight difference in looks, I have so far:

    - Added a deck lid spoiler
    - Changed the black V6 at the back with a red V6 emblem
    - Dual chrome exhaust finishers

These are not noticeable from afar, but one can see that there is a slight difference from the stock when parked side by side

Intending to add the fog lights (more on looks) but is very useable where I live in San Francisco

Unlike most car makers who purposely downgrade their more modest versions to bump you into their premium vehicles, Honda gives you the most they can at every level. Even after squeezing a very satisfying V6 in to their Accord, they upgraded the 4 to a point where it's darn hard to decide between the two.
Assuming you can skip leather, sunroof, and a few more nice features, the LX is perfectly satifying......same very good new stereo, same everything that really counts. At any level you get the feeling you've gotten more than you paid for which is probably why Honda doesn't have to participate in the rebate wars. Heck of an idea, giving you more for less.

Can anyone refer me to a website, or post the dealer invoice cost on a 2004 4 door accord, EX V-6 with and without nav, Thanks, and any help would be nice, Sir_col
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I know 1 guy who skipped the V6 accord because it didn't look the price. I think you get a lot in the 4 cyl models, but the loaded V6 models get very pricey, at least up here they do. Considering there are virtually no incentives and everyone else has at least some, it's hard to justify a V6 Accord in my mind. I'll still consider one down the road though, it's a good car.
  • gee35coupegee35coupe Member Posts: 3,387
One of the major reasons we went with the EX-L over the EX-V6 was ours was built in Japan. Plus we wanted to keep out ability to legally drive.

    Front spoiler...

I like the look. The dealership had one on a demo in the showroom. They wanted like $500 installed though. It only costs $214 and is easy to install. I had to put one on my 00 Civic SI. It's a snap.
  • snakehairsnakehair Member Posts: 120
A question about the "dual exhausts" outside of looks. All I see on my '03 EXL-V6 is twin tailpipes, not a dual exhaust system. Does this serve any purpose other than a slight upgrade in looks. An exhaust system that only splits after the final resonator doesn't seem to be worth much as far as increased performance.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
My Integra does the same thing - just for looks.
  • gee35coupegee35coupe Member Posts: 3,387
any more. Nearly all dual tailpipe equipped cars are faux duals.
  • maxpower02maxpower02 Member Posts: 103
HandA Accessories. com. I also have the graphite. Looks great in black. Goes well with our color. I saw the splash guards on a white Accord, too much contrast between colors. My$.02.
Just make sure you use a short phillips screwdriver for the back guards, since you cannot fit a regular size screwdriver between the wheel and the wheelwell, unless you take the tire off. Also look at the chrome tips, really finishes the back end off.
  • ken972ken972 Member Posts: 162
Hey, Thanks. If you are like me you are a little hesistant about adding things to the car that effect appearance. Things like splash guards and chrome tips can come off..decklid spoiler which im on the fence about isnt so easy. Kinda stuck with it if you dont like it once its on. Im waiting on a "powered by honda" chrome license plate frame from handaaccessories. I might add the chrome tips as well. Ive been looking for someone on the road with the same color car as ours to see if they have the tips on to see how they look on the car...that may be next. I suppose the black splash guards will blend in good with graphite like you say..just like the black housing of the fog lights. I agree with you on to much contrast. Id have to reconsider if i had one of the lighter colored accords.
  • ken972ken972 Member Posts: 162
Has anyone gotten these two accessories to work together? I want the tray in the trunk all the time. But to install the net the instructions have you drill a hole into the bottom of the trunk. So you either have the tray out..or drill through it which would defeat its purpose. Im not sure why you need the bottom mounts..i had a camry with a cargo net. It just had 2 mounts that attached to the side of the car..seemed to work fine. Really just need something to keep plastic grocery bags etc. from going all over the place.
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
Install the cargo net and then caulk around the holes with some caulking? Thats really the only option I believe.

so now you have a wanna be 6spd with your red V6 emblem. You're going to disgrace the true 6spd owners like myself with your semi-fast accord.....
  • ken972ken972 Member Posts: 162
Dont think he was out to disgrace anyone..just wanted a red emblem..maybe it matched his car better...relax. We all know your 6 speed v6 can go faster then a auto v6. How many people who are not familier with accords are gonna know the difference between the black and red v6 emblems. Most who have accords probably are not aware of the difference.
  • jmessjmess Member Posts: 677
Won't be long before we will be over run with TypeR badged Accords with big wings on the back. Badge upgrades seem silly but who really cares. If you wanted to be distinctive you wouldn't buy an Accord.

I removed everything but the H on the back of our EX-4banger. IMHO the Accord and model badge look awkward and out of place no matter what model you have.
  • lichtronimolichtronimo Member Posts: 212
but I think a blue Accord with a red "H" badge and red brakes would look pretty cool...
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
It definitely would look cool. But the entire purpose of the red V6 badge is to differentiate it between the automatic V6.

I can understand where people would ask why do it if you dont have the V6.

Its kinda like the people who put TYPE R badges of change the Honda symbol to acura, yet not that extreme

...I recently saw liberally applied upon the flanks and trunk of a BMW 318 be improper??
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
I can even beat that one robr2....

A Z28 sticker on the back of a late 80's-early 90's Corolla sedan.

I have seen a few Accord sedans with the decklid spoiler and I like the look. Maybe you should try driving around to your local Honda dealers until you can find one that has it on the car. Most dealers (in Atlanta at least) have at least 1 model that has just about every accessory off of Honda's website installed.

    Hi all,
Just bought my wife an '03 Accord EX 5spd AT (silver) and had the dealer throw the raised spoiler in at no charge. hey they gave us $12k trade on her '00 Civic EX 5sp. I was tempted to get the decklid (nascar style) spoiler, but it just doesn't look right on the 4dr. Anyway, she is in for a nice anniversary gift when we go pick it up tomarrow from the dealer. She thinks we are just going to go and look at them and doesn't know I already did all the paperwork and all. (at least she likes the accord, that would be a BIG oops if she didn't)

hi folks, should i choose either the jetta,
or the mazda 6 over the accord cuz of the better warranty they offer. mazda and vw is
4-50 as opposed with 3-36 for the accord.
iam not so much concerned with the powertrain warranty as iam with the basic warranty. you are more likely to experience
electrical and ac problems within the first few years of ownership, as opposed to haveing powertrain problems. honda basic is 3-36 vs mazda and vw 4-50 and the mazda warranty offers loaner cars for warranty repairs as well. is the accord that good where i really dont have to worry to much about the warranty? and i dont want to purchase a extended warranty either. since it would be included on the other vehicles that i mentioned.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
I'm sure she will be very happy odie.

If you browse the other boards you will generally see that VW seems to have as many if not more complaints about their cars than Honda(Especially the Jetta). The Mazda 6 board seems to have less complaints in general but there are a whole lot less of them on the road also.

However Honda has a better reputation for longevity than either VW or Mazda. If you are not planning on keeping your car for more than 3-4 years then don't worry about the warranty, get the car you like the best. If you are planning keeping it more than 3-4 years or drive tons of miles (25k+) a year then get the Honda with an extended 5/100 warranty.

If the MZ6 didn't look so SpeedRacer-ish I would have gotten it over the Accord, because of the better warranty and loaner and not to be like 400,000 other people on the road.

There are plenty of people here that seem very unhappy with their Accords so you may want to see if they pipe in with their opinions.

But in short NO the Accord is not that good that you don't have to worry about the warranty. NO CAR IS. Buying a car is an odds game. You are betting that you won't get a lemon. Now you need to find out which car makes more lemons. History shows that Honda outperforms nearly everyone but Lexus,Acura, Infiniti, and Toyota in that regard.

Do you really like the Jetta? After driving the MZ6 and Accord? Why?.....

You're really asking for the impossible - predicting the future! No car is problem-free, and if main concern is the cost of repairs after the factory warranty has expired, then you probably need to go for the longest warranty, or be prepared to pay for an extended warranty.

I had a 2000 Jetta VR6 with which many members have had multiple and costly electrical problems. However, in the 2 years I owned it, I never had a single problem. I got lucky, that's all. The Accord is generally perceived as highly reliable, and I think that's the experience most owners have. But if you read through these forums, you'll find people who've had problem after problem.

Has anyone had experience with install the door edge guards? I thought they would be just push on until they arrived. How much damage to the paint does the removal of the contact strip on the inside of the door do? Is touch up paint really needed? How precise do you need to be in the measurements? Any help appreciated. I am a not too handy type, but not all thumbs either.
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
The door guards are a piece of cake. I put them on, had them on for a year, no problems with the paint at all. Nice thing about it is they close the gaps between the panels also.

You can do it, even if you are not that handy.

You arent removing the contact strip either, you are just sliding the door guard underneath it.

Great trade-in value on your Honda. I traded a 1999 Olds Intrigue with 40k+ on it and barely got 6k. Here in San Antonio I have seen V6's going for 23,800. Not too much difference but considering your good trade-in value, a good deal. I love my V6 with Nav! good luck.
  • tblazer503tblazer503 Member Posts: 620
sounds like a fair offer... I have seen those around here in the NW for about 7-9k... those miles are a killer... I would have guessed mid 5's... couldn't hurt to see if you can milk 'em for 6,500, though...

hi, well beleive it or not the thing that is drawing me towards the jetta is the 8 speaker monsoon sound system. out of all the cars that i have been looking at this is the best sounding stereo i have heard. i looked at a base model acura rsx which is around the same price and it was the worst sounding stereo i have ever heard.and if you go to the rsx forums you will see other people that are in agreement with me. when you spend 20,000.00 for a car you should be able to get a descent stereo with the car. infact
the stereo that comes with the rsx s model is not that great either. stereo sound is very important to me, and the jettas small size gives you a great surround sound with the 8 speakers. almost better than my home unit.

Out of your three choices, the VW is probably going to be the least reliable based on forums here and independent magazine reliability tests. As for Honda and Mazda, they're both Japanese designed (with emphasis on quality). Mazdas are just as reliable as Hondas and Toyotas, their reputation has been taineted somewhat by previous models that were Ford designed and marketed as Mazdas. But the Mazda6 is completely designed by Mazda, so you don't have to worry about the Ford association.

As for the Mazda6 beeing too "racy looking". Since when did stylish and sporty looking 4dr sedans become too "racy looking"? It's all relative, it's defintely more sporty looking than an Accord, whether that's your cup of tea is up to you. I personally don't like side skirts and underspoilers on any car except a real sports car, the bottom line is you can get an Accord and Mazda6 with or without those options.

To dispell some myths here, not all Mazda6's have the underspoilers and sidesills options. I have seen more on the road without them than with them.

i don't know about that. isn't the 6's v6 engine based upon the ford duratec?

Does anyone know whether any 2004 Canadian models will have side curtain airbags? (Even the EX-V6 2003 sedan didn't have them in Canada.) Thanks.
  • venus537venus537 Member Posts: 1,443
i went from a jetta with the monsoon to an accord (03 EXV6) and find the accord's stereo to be superior. the monsoon looks great on paper though.

justin: what's your opinion of the accord stereo in relation to the jetta?

Has anyone had the chance to compare the seats between the current (03 and 04) Accord and the previous generation? I really like the current Accord but don't know if it's the same or more comfortable than the previous generation. Had a chance to drive the 01 Accord for 5 hours and my back & @ss were hurting pretty bad. I know the seat comfort is a personal preference, but generally speaking, is there a big improvement on the seats between 01 and 03 Accords?
  • jcihakjcihak Member Posts: 60
Had to drive through Isabel coming home from work at 1AM this morning in my new Accord. Pouring rain, wind gusts to 60mph, did not phase the Accord at all. There were several times I had to swerve and zig-zag past fallen branches in the road. The Accord was outstanding. It was almost totally unaffected by the wind (unlike my old Civic) and handled my obstacle course really well. I couldn't have felt safer (unless of course I had been smart enough to stay home).
  • venus537venus537 Member Posts: 1,443
one of the touting points of the new accord was its more comfortable seats. will they be more comfortable to you? i guess a 5 hour test drive will tell.
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
She said she has to get used to it. Speaking of isabel... i was driving home from work last night at 12:30am (09/19/03) in my escape with wife and 4month old daughter in back. Wife said she was glad she didn't have the accord yet after we picked it up today, because of the tree trunk's that we had to crawl over. Good thing we picked up the accord today because the dealer actually put it inside their garage for the night to avoid it getting messed up.
It's a nice car for her and I'm glad she likes it. Now If I could only get my power to come back on, it's been off since 11:30pm 9/18/03 and it's now 8:30pm 9/19/03.
