Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the upcoming 2003 (or even 2002) Accords. Please post info or links.
Thanks!!

They are not underpowered, they do fine.
Not everybody cares about power windows or cruise control.
For they money, they are a lot of car.
People shouldn't knock other people for making a choice that pleases them.
Also, I see people buying cars everyday that they can't afford. They HAVE to have a sunroof, leather, alloys, rear spoiler, etc. They choke on car payments because they can't be practical enough to drive a car they can comfortably afford.
roberto, you bought a great car you'll enjoy!
not everyone cares about having automatic tranny--but try trading in a 5 speed accord EX sedan-- see what kind of hit you take. 5 speeds are brutal come trade-in time....
my way of thinking--- the accord VP package may be attractive as far as price, but if your budget is in the $16,000 bracket, and you wanna buy an accord, i'd go with a used 99 or 00 model. am i nuts?
And for the umpteenth time, it is an inline 4 cyl engine, not a "V4". Euro Ford and Saab produced the last V4s quite some time ago...
And finally, 135 hp would make any current or past Camry 4 cyl owner ecstatic...all depends on your point of reference.
The Honda Service Dept is about an hours drive away and I would like some info if anyone has any of fixing the problem.
Thanks in advance.
Hope this helps!
I have two LX's (a 99 and an 01), both 5 speeds, and I have no interest in trading in either one til they're run into the ground - something I don't expect to happen for 10 years. By then, you won't get jack in a trade from the dealer, regardless of the car you buy.
the engine immobilizer feature wasn't introduced until 2000 MY, i believe.
But, like kc flynn says, none of this matters much for the person who keeps their cars forever.
It may be hard for some of you to believe, but for many people, a car is an appliance. It is not an extension of their ego. These people could care less about a sunroof, power windows or cruise control.
And, it's not necessarilly a money thing either, lots of folks write checks for these cars. They invest the money they saved by forgoing the options and may be smarter than the people who critized their decision.
air conditioning is not an option.... moonroofs are options...
power windows are not options.... spoilers are options....
you get my meaning-- if anyone buys an accord VP thinking they're going to keep it 10 years, i don't get it-- winding those window cranks will drive you batty within the first 7 years alone.
to paraphrase tammy wynette, i stand by my post
Finally, can I have some help on pricing. I have read other posts regarding prices of 1-300 over invoice however, I would like to add mud flaps, spoiler and perhaps wheel locks. What have others paid for the accord with a similar package?
Thanks in advance for advice.
I got quotes from all of the Honda dealers in my area. One offered me 100 over invoice but I test drove the Accord at another dealership and built a relationship there (she offered me $400 over invoice initially). I told her that I wanted to buy my car from her but that I got an offer of $100 over invoice. She agreed to match that But I told her if I was going to buy a car from her she needed to do better than that.
So to make a long story longer, she started adding everything up. I live in Seattle and she said that every dealer in the area adds the mud flaps and wheel trim right off the truck because of all the rain we get (we really don't get that much), so I couldn't even get an Accord without those options. If she wanted my sale I offered to accept the deal if she gave me those things at cost and to throw in wheel locks. She agreed and I walked out not regretting my purchase and driving away in my beautiful car. So don't be afraid to deal. I didn't think I could do it but it was fun...
I realize that your situation is a little different but you never know!
I think the VP is an excellent value for people with different circumstance who are budget conscious and want the Accord.
However, someone please tell me why the 5-speed is popular. I've had several cars with manual transmissions and hated going through the gears, nothing but automatics for me.
I wouldn't get a 4 door Accord with a manual, but I want a coupe with one.
Also look at how many Civic DX's and Corolla DX's are sold. If you need an Accord sized car but don't care about "buttons" it's a great buy. Besides I love that non Vtec motor. Especially with a 5 speed. It doesn't feel as "peaky" as the vtec one.
Thanks again.
Cost was $175 and it comes with a 3 year warranty.
but the out the door price is 23,700.
Is that average? Or am I getting a good deal?
They've also added two year maintenance package which I was pleased with.
Wheel Locks...shouldn't get charged for those right?
I'm a rookie, first time buyer...but knew I could get it for invoice...please let me know, as I'll be going in to buy tomorrow morning...thanks!

good luck chicago77bhawk
The dealer has to pay for them.
well, I mean dealers try to get you and say "we'll throw in mud flaps or floor mats", when they're just part of the car...
so don't think they're really losing any money by adding the wheel locks...or 'throwing them in'...cuz it's worth to throw in if it provides the sale for them....
and why shouldn't I give 'out the door' prices?
that's the only safeguard for me against 'dealer' jipp offs...
so I want to know what people are paying for the car...after all the wheeling and dealing...
what's wrong with that? please elaborate.
out the door price - what they are saying is that OTD price varies if you are including tax, title and fees. NH has no sales tax and Washington state has 9% I believe. That makes a huge difference. A $20K Accord in NH is $21800 in WA.
People are just asking for a little detail in order to answer your question.
That price includes destination fee already, but before tas, which is only 3% here in VA.
That price does not include any addition to the base model. The basic is already quite good, in my opinion.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

Camry i heard is getting a makeover and a new 220hp engine... Maxima's getting a makeover and 260 horses and the Altima's just an entirely new car w/ 240 horses
Plus there's the Hyundai XG300 that Motortrend ranked over the Accord. But the Accord still seems to be the best value b/c of the low price.
Here's a food for thought: How about a sport edition Accord w/ modified suspension, TL Type-S engine and a 6 speed manual? That'd be something... now only if Honda could do something about those tailights...
Just wanted to let anyone who is interested in buying a new Honda in the Triangle/Triad region of North Carolina know of our good experience.
We purchased a 2001 Honda Accord LX with AT/ABS/Side air bags at Crown Honda-Chapel Hill. We got the car for an out the door price of 19289. There were no hidden fees/advertising fees or the like. We had not seen the car on any of the local dealer lots, but Chapel Hill was willing to find the vehicle or order it to our specifications.
We did most (90%) of our communication over the internet and telephone. We only went to the dealer to arrange our financing, negotiate the trade-in and sign the papers. The car was exactly what we wanted (and exactly what they promised)! They even threw in floor mats, splash guards and pinstripe at no charge.
Our sales person, Michelle Boessen, was wonderful.
We wanted a good, reliable and affordable car. Driving the extra distance to Chapel Hill saved us at least a few thousand dollars. The local dealers could not beat the price and were only willing to sell the vehicles they had on the lot. Most of the dealers we spoke with were not interested in dealing with us further when we told them we were not looking for a comparably equipped EX.
So check them out. The extra time and energy you spend now may save you lots later!!
If you do decide on ESP, go with the Honda one. I think there will be less headaches getting things fixed since a Honda dealer will be doing the work. Plus, I also feel there won't be as much jerking around by the repair people since Honda is footing the bill.
And the warranty is transferable(with limitations) as well.
Thanks
Edmunds has a good article about ESP's but I couldn't tell you where to find it.
As far as coverage, it is basically an extension of the bumper to bumper coverage of the original 36mo/36k warranty(my interpretation) and excludes items normally requiring replacement(wiper blades, battery, brakes, rotors, exhaust, etc.) Towing service is provided as well as trip interruption costs(meals and lodging and rental fees, all with certain limitations).
Buying the ESP is a gamble and almost makes you want something to go wrong so you haven't wasted the money. But that's another story.
