You may want to drop by our Finance, Warranty & Insurance Board - there are a number of discussions underway there about extended warranties.

Good luck - let us know what you find out.

It's pretty hard to throw stuff in when the shopper has already ground the dealer down to his last nickle of (gasp) profit.

There are a few people who are never happy and think all of the extras should come at no charge.

Trouble is, the dealers have to pay for all of these items!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE DEALER INVOICE PRICE IS FOR THIS PACKAGE?. Also what all does it cover?

Hi guys, Is it normal to feel a pause between the gear shift on my new 2001 Accord EX (4A)? I didn't notice it when I test-drived the car. Sometimes, I felt a small "jump" when the auto transmission shifted from first to second gear. Is this true for all Accords or there is something wrong with my particular car? Thank you for your help.
  • hbund216hbund216 Member Posts: 162
I'm sure if it was not in the dealers best interest they just would not sell the car to the buyer. I'm know there are time when the dealers sticks it to the customer. I had several Honda dealers try to do this when my sister was looking at V6 Accord Coupes. Only fair to get as much for your money as you can. After all this place for Accord owners and ways to educated each other. It's not for ways of making the dealers rich.

    Hat off to everybody,
Name's Jerry, now doing a boring survey on car brands. Just a few questions, what do you guys think of the above 5 brands? What would u associate with each of them? Do they mean something to you? For example, some people regard Buick as for elder citizens. I don't know. I just want to know what u folks think.
    Thanks.

I know this response is a little late, but my 2000 Accord EX V-6 also developed an annoying squeak in the sunroof. I sprayed silicone lube on a cloth and applied it to the gasket, and the problem went away. It's been about 2 months and the noise hasn't come back.

I agree about using silicone lube in place of WD-40... WD-40 is a great product, but it's not the best choice for rubber.
  • jrct9454jrct9454 Member Posts: 2,363
I agree that this is the preferred solution until you can get the dealer to do whatever they do. I have also used silcone spray on a cloth to silence noisy door seals on a Mercedes, and misc noises on other cars.

WD40 was not designed for this kind of application - it is messy and smelly, and will actually harm the rubber over the long pull.

I have a 2001 Accord with 3500 miles and have noticed if I am driving my sunroof will start howling. It doesn't happen all the time but it is very annoying when it does. Has anyone else had a similar issue? Is there a fix? I have an appointment scheduled to have it looked at and the service etch said it could be the way the wind is blowing on it. I told him I have a 98 Acura with a sunroof and never had these problems.

I've noticed on the 4 cylinder 2001 Accords (2 or 4 door) in the SF Bay area (even brand new!) that if you look underneath from the back of the car that a) the round bar that welds to the back left of the muffler is rusted, and b) if you look further forward (in the middle in line with the back tires) there are two vertically aligned bolts and the bottom one is rusted as is the bar attached to it.

    My questions are:

    1. Is this only for 2001 4 cylinder Accords in the Bay Area? (Owner's can you take a look and let us all know about your vehicle?)
    2. Is this normal? (Doesn't seem like it!)
    3. Is it cosmetic?

    Thanks.

sorry if this has already been posted...

there is a service bulletin about that rattle/squeak. it's a known issue, and the dealer recommends wd-40...

it IS good to know about the silicone spray.. do you find that at hardware stores? i'll have to pick some up. the dealership just used wd-40 on mine, and geez, the smell was horrible for 2 days.

    but thanks for that recommendation.

    Hello,

    I have been quoted $29,850.00 Canadian for the Accord EX-Leather (5 speed)including... Frieght/Admin /AC/Gas Tax...etc complete with 15% tax, on the road.

    Is this a good deal?

    Thank You,

    Robert.
    P.S. Before tax/fees $24,909.78

...is easily obtained from any auto parts store [Kragen, etc] or from a well-stocked discount place like Wal-Mart. It's been a standard part of my garage supplies forever, so can't remember where I bought the last can...

I have to shake my head at the dealer going with WD40 for this purpose...that stuff has lots of uses, but this would not be one of them for me.
  • hbund216hbund216 Member Posts: 162
Funny thing is the Honda dealers were using silicone prior to this bulletin. GM even recommends it to lengthen the life of weather stripping on their cars. This one advise I would recommend not to follow.

I was rearended recently in my '95 LX Sedan. The trunk crumpled and the back windshield was destroyed. The car was totaled. Upon impact, both the driver seat and the front passenger seat flew back into the reclining position with the headrest touching the backseat. Fortunately, no one was in the backseat because we were unable to pry the seats back up after the accident. Has anybody ever heard of this happening in an Accord? Is this some type of safety feature or defect? Any help would be very appreciated.
  • hbund216hbund216 Member Posts: 162
This is a common problem with lots of cars. The seats can only stand up to so much force when the car is rear ended. When I checked a while back there was a report of this on the NHTSA web site by someone for the Accord The fact that you are not paralyzed makes you one of the lucky ones.

The final price of $ 29,850 Canadian is excellent, and I would take it. in May, 2000 I
bought the 2000 Accord EX V6 for a total price of
$34,700 (all taxes included) in Montreal Canada.
    (It was $30,075 before taxes).

Have the dealer throw in the simulated wood finish on the dash & doors. It really adds a classy look to the interior. also, the GOLD BADGE kit is a very "NICE to HAVE"....see if the dealer
can throw this in as well.

    Enjoy your Accord!!

Hey, Guys, Does anyone know how to calculate the lease payment from Honda,

I am looking at the honda Accord EX-V6, I am going to offer them $22,665, with no payment down. My tax rate is 3.5%, I will like to keep the car for 2 Years, with 18,000 Miles per year.

Can anyone tell me what type of payment this is going to come out to.

    Thanks.

Getting a slight weird sound (like a helicopter!) when I get my 2001 EX 4cyl. up to say 40 mph. or higher...and then let up off the gas. Service manager changed two front bearings, same thing.
Then, he takes me out on his own EX 4 cyl and we both hear the same thing again!
He explained that the tire size and its contact with the road produces the sound and that it was normal. He also mentioned that the LX model was quieter because they have 70 series tires (not as wide) vs. the 60 series on the EX.
Has anyone else experienced this road noise and if so...is it normal? Is it caused by the "wide
    tire contact" with the road?
    All answers appreciated. Many thanks!
  • hbund216hbund216 Member Posts: 162
Road noise is common with Accords. I think it has to do with the Michelin tires. It get especially loud when your on the freeway. It quiets back down a bit when on the black top. There is a stretch of freeway that I drive on that switches between black top and concrete. The noise level and humming change dramatically between the two surfaces. I have a 2000 EX.

The price you got for an EX-L seems like a helluva deal. Per Carcostcanada, the dealer cost for an EX-L 5-speed is $25,375 including freight and air tax.
  • saxoniisaxonii Member Posts: 31
What is this air tax?????????I know Canada is known for high taxes but air tax???????? Please explain.

I just bought a 2001 accord ex v6 sedan plus spoiler plus gold emblem kit and paid 23200 plus tax and title.any comments? i didnt think i could have gotten it any cheaper in my area [southwest florida] i negotiated for a long time and finally settled at 23200 where 22775 i believe was invoice and 425 for spoiler and gold kit should be slightly under invoice. anyone??
  • surfing19surfing19 Member Posts: 46
Sounds like you got an OK deal, I am in talk with my dealer in Northwest Florida, for the same car (EX-v6 with spoiler), but instead of the gold Kit i am trying to get the Two Year Maintenance Plan. I am working on trying to get $23,000 Out the door including Taxes and Fees with my trade in of a 2001 Nissan Altima, Also, i am registering the car in Alabama where the sales tax is only 3.5% so that helps too.
  • toddmichtoddmich Member Posts: 8
Your price seems pretty good. We just bought a the Accord EX-V6 this weekend. We paid 22,650 with no other options. We are in Northern Ohio though. We are picking up the car on Thursday. Does anyone have any good products to use on the leather? This is our first car with leather seats. Thanks!
  • tanveermtanveerm Member Posts: 42
Saxonii...Canadiancl probably meant "Air Conditioner Tax". it's only about CDN$100 and is an environmental initiative since A/C's are environmentally-unfriendly.

The price on the EX-L is about as cheap as anyone can hope for (below invoice). Go for it and enjoy!
  • jrct9454jrct9454 Member Posts: 2,363
Eagle One and Lexol both make widely available cleaners and dressings for leather. They are easily obtained from any of the usual discount suspects, e.g. W-Mart.

I usually go with the dressing sometime in the first month we have the car, then it's mostly a matter of how much you drive, and who uses the car...we are childless and petless, for example, so cleaning / dressing sessions can be widely spaced. Make sure you wipe off the dressing thoroughly to avoid damage to clothing.

Hi... thank you for your reply regarding the
    price I've been quoted for the Accord EX-L 5 Speed 2.3 L..

    You quoted figures from CarCostCanada.
While I have not used their service, I have obtained the Automobile Protections Agency's (APA)
    "Dealer Invoice".

What would you say is the difference between the two? CarCost figures are $300 cheaper than the APA's.

Is the formula the same between the two. I.E. Frieght and PDI to be added to the dealer invoice to achieve a total before the verious fees and taxes? I know the APA is quoting a dealer figure to which you add freight/PDI..... etc.

Finally, I am also lucky enough to be in the market for a CIVIC LX 4 Speed Sedan. Both cars to be purchased together.
Would you happen to have the CarCost numbers?
The APA has quoted $17,984.00 plus freight/pdi/taxes etc.

I am finding the dealers seem flexible with the Accord pricing (as you noticed with the quote I received), however, are a $1000.00 over APA invoice on the Civic.

Any tips/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Robert.
P.S. I apologize for the long post.

Is anyone else totally unimpressed with Honda's web site? Half the time the payment calculator doesn't work. In the news section no mention is given of low APR rates available now(according to Edmunds). VP is well hidden and no prices given. And I don't know that this matters, but it's copyrighted thru 2000.
  • canadianclcanadiancl Member Posts: 1,078
I've not used APA so I can't really comment on direct comparison between them and Carcost. Carcost's quotes are supposed to be net of holdbacks, and I also noticed that their quotes include freight but not PDI (dealer prep), so that may account for the difference with APA's figures.

Sorry I don't have the Carcost figure on the Civic.

I think from now thru 2002 model year you will find the best bargains on the Accord. The current model is getting long in the tooth. There are no major changes to compete with the new Altima & Camry, so I think you will find special editions, price incentives, and generally very motivated dealers for the Accord. But the Civic is a new model for 2001. And in Canada the Civic sells very well. That's why you will encounter dealer being firm on their prices.
  • grisouegrisoue Member Posts: 18
The 850$ listed by Carcost for freight is the same as the 850$ listed by Honda on its web site for freight AND prep, so prep is indeed included (although Carcost says its not).

Carcost gave me a dealer price for the LX-V6 that is 6% below the MSRP. This seems like a very narrow margin, especially comparing it with the 10% margin shown in Edmunds and the 9.5% margin obtained by Scorpio for the EX-L-5.

Either Carcost is not reliable or the LX-V6 is priced more aggressively in Canada. In both cases this does not bode well for my coming negotiations!

I actually asked Carcost about this issue. They seem to indicate that because of the exchange rate, the MSRP in Canada is lower than in US (in terms of equivalent US$) to make the cars affordable. Therefore, the profit margin is smaller for Canadian dealers. Also Carcost indicated that there are less cash incentives for the Canadian market. That apparently is to discourage people from buying in Canada and importing the cars to the US.

    Hi,

I got a quote from a dealer for a LX 99 4 cyl with 27K miles for $16K. It's a certified used Honda. Does it sound like a good deal? Also, any feedback on the 99 Accord would be welcome.

    Thanks
  • ral2167ral2167 Member Posts: 791
that car was probably bought for around 18000--- it's nearly a 3 year old car-- i don't care for that certified stuff either-- over rated.... 16000 is way too high.... 14000 MAX is your offer. tell them to stick that certifed stuff....am i nuts?
  • bimmer4mebimmer4me Member Posts: 266
The good thing about Honda is they don't depreciate much in value as they age...a good thing if your going to sell and not so good if your going to buy a used Honda. I purchased my 99 LX A/T 4dr new at $17,300 + taxes and fees. I would try and offer them 15k. 14k sounds to low even for a 3 year old Accord. The mileage is decent for a 1999 Accord.

does anyone know of a wholesale Honda parts dealer online. Nissan has a few dealers that advertise in various magazines where parts can be ordered at invoice. I was wondering if Honda has any around.

    thanks

Hi. I bought my first car today (put down a deposit, deal not finalized yet). I want to make sure I did ok, because the dealer always acts like you're "breaking their back". I bought a 2001 Accord EX 4-cylinder automatic for $20,472 (plus $1200 tax and $225 fees). Is that good?? I think that is just about $275 or so above invoice. Another dealer said he couldn't go below $1,500 above invoice for the EX!!! I walked right out of there!! Glad I did!

I'd really appreciate anyone's advice before I finalize this!
  • canadianclcanadiancl Member Posts: 1,078
I think alot of Accords are going for invoice or slightly below, although the EX 4 cylinder is the high volume model in the Accord lineup so it may go for a little higher.
  • firsttimeownerfirsttimeowner Member Posts: 12
I bought my Accord EX 10 days ago at $50 below invoice. I shopped four dealers in the region and got offers for the invoice price from all of them. I think your price is OK considering it is a more than $20,000 car. Good luck.
  • pawniepawnie Member Posts: 11
In a previous post someone mentioned EX V-6's were going for $200 below invoice in the DC area. Which dealership(I) should I start with? Looking to purchase by end of month. Any advice will be helpful

I bought my car a couple months ago in rockville, md at hersons for 100 above invoice...i didn't have to negotiate that hard since i told them if they didnt give me that price, i'd walk to another deal right away. They also didnt try to BS me with that undercoating and rustproofing...i told them i would bolt if they even mentioned it!

I'm in the process of buying a 2001 Honda Accord Value Package Sedan. They had an Advertised sale for $15999. Is this a good deal? The Edmunds information I get confused with the tmv and dealer invoice and so on. The TMV with destination charge comes to a little over 16K so is it a good deal? Please respond quickly I have to go on Tuesday to decide.

Just bought a '96 Accord EX from a private seller. It came with a keyless entry/security system installed by the dealership shortly after he bought it new. Seller had very little info on it. All I know is that the system is by Access Automotive Security. Can't find any info on them or the system.
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
Don't give any s### to TMV. Concentrate on the Invoice price & try to get it around invoice.
    i.e.Invoice + Destination.
