    Sobers: I looked up the info and it came to $15977. Does it make sense to ask them to lower the $22? That total is the Dealer Invoice + Destination Charge. I'm sorry if I ask dumb questions, but this is my first car purchase. I'm scared because most of my friends (I feel) have been taken advantage of due to the fact we're females.

    check out anderson honda in baltimore. you may get below invoice from them.
    In philly area you can get 100-200 above invoice.

    for ex i paid 20,400 + 6% tax + 125 (title etc)fees

    Don't quibble over $22, it's silly. Just make sure you're comfortable with the dealership. If not, take their ad to a competitor.

    Surprised not to find invoice info on Hondacare extended warranties. They come in a number of years and mileages. There must be fixed invoice numbers available. If you know please respond. Interested especially in Accord EX 4A 7 year, 100K

    I've seen them advertised for 14,799 plus freight. You should push for better than 15,999. It may be hard for Honda to move this no-frills model at the end of the year.

    According to my info, MSRP is 715 for 7 years 10000 miles on Accord 4 cyls. which has invoice of $550. It varies evry model year...but that is it. Not more than 575 is the invoice....

    One way to calculate is MSRPpercentage of $$ MSRP is over invoice & compare it to MSRP of the warranty. If any more knowledeable person is here, let me know if I am grossly wrong !! :))

    Where exactly do you live? Do these prices vary of where exactly you live? I live in San Antonio,Tx. If you live close by or if someone else has a similiar experience let me know so I can try to lower the price..

    There is no "invoice" on Hondacare.

    Of course the dealer has to make a profit on Hondacare.

    I hae no idea what these cost as there are several different levels available.

    Just ask your dealer for a discount and see what happens.

    I am also interested in the hondacare warrantyfor 2001 Accord Ex. I have a quote for 735 for 7 y /100000/0ded.
    Did any one get a better quote for the warranty?

    I live in northern VA. Remember that if the car has side air bags, you have to add that in. I would get them if available. They add about $200. Offer the dealer 15,500. See what they say. Not to confuse things, but take a look at the Elantra GT 5 door hatch or the GLS sedan. You might scratch your head at how much you get for the dollar and reliability is steadily getting better. CR rates them well. Good Luck!

    I have a 1995 V6 accord LX with 65K miles on it. This auto transmission problem has me wondering a bit about my car. I have always noticed a 'clunk' when shifting from Park to Reverse in the morning to leave my garage or when shifting from D4 to R to P to park the car. I considered it normal but hearing all these tranny issues has me thinking. I also , quite regulary, experince some odd perfromance with the transmission particulary in stop and go traffic when the car shifted down and trys to shift up. Its a sudden sometimes unexpected upshift but NO clunking noises. I also experince a similar feeling when slowing down on a decline, that is the tranny unexpectly shifts to adjust for the terrain. It also seems that the engine rpm drops about 500rpm when the torque converter locks it up, the manual says this is to be expected. Hey, I don't mean to be a pest but a got rid of a 1991 Ford taurus that went through 4 transmissions (all under warranty) so I'm a little wimpy when it comes to tranny issues! Any comments?

    I'd be willing to bet that your tranny is fine. Everything you mention sounds pretty normal. Different cars behave differently and all have their own quirks. Cars make a lot of noises when you turn off the radio, turn down the A/C, and listen intently. I went through the same questions with 3 different mechanics and they all said the noises were normal. If I were in your shoes, I would turn the radio back on, ignore the noises and enjoy your car.

    Hi Everyone in Honda Accord land...

    I'm interested in buying a HOOD PROTECTOR for my 2000
    Honda Accord EX V6. The reason? I already have 2 stone
    chips on my hood, very close to the hood opening.

    Can people who already have these installed on their cars
    enlighten me on the ADVANTAGES & DIS-ADVANTAGES of having
    them on cars? For example...are they damaged in car washes?

    I live in PA but the quote is from a dealer in kentucky. I am assuming the warranty is valid even if I buy it from a dealer outside PA.

    This is precisely why I am so unhappy with the unnecessary verbal arm-waving that keeps going on about alleged problems with the V6 trans. Your car is behaving exactly as it should.

    When you go from park to reverse, or from park to drive, there will be a brief "engagement" sound. This is the parking pawl being connected and disconnected from the drivetrain. "Park" locks the front wheels so they turn in opposite directions...in doing so, there is a physical finger-like device that reaches out and engages the final drive. As you move in and out of park, you will hear it doing its thing.

    The much-discussed, and usually misunderstood problem with the limited number of early '00 cars manifested itself in the form of a very loud, unmistakeable noise when actually backing up, not merely engaging reverse.

    The other things you are describing are normal behaviors for the adaptable transmission software. Relax, and ignore the arm-wavers; there is nothing wrong with your car...not as described, anyway.

    Thanks. The displeasure of owning one of the worst automobiles (1991 Ford Taurus) unfortunately breeds some paranoia. The accord has been flawless with the only problem being the automatic antenna cable breaking resulting in the antenna being in the upright condition. An easy fix with a pair pliers.

    heh... my dad also had (still has in a manner of speaking) a '91 taurus. by all rights, he SHOULD have taken it back under the lemon law. i shudder to think of all the money that's been dropped into that thing, and now it's just sitting under his carport, not running, collecting a layer of pollen.

    by comparison, our '88 accord is still a peach. an old one, with a few issues, but a peach nonetheless.

    Has anyone been successful in getting their reimbursement from Honda on the balance shaft seal recall? I had mine fail and needed to be repaired prior to recall. Honda promised refunds to all those customers who had repairs done prior to accouncement. Honda has had my receipts and info since December '00 and they promised a 6 to 8 week turn-around. My latest call into HOA was that they started with three people working on the issue and there were over a million claims. Sounds like Honda was not prepared. I am happy they will refund, but not happy with their planning process.

    I'm in a process buying a 97 Accord LX with standard
    transmission and 95k miles. I think it's a basic Accord LX 4door sedan model with no extra things. The seller says it's mostly highway miles.

    I've never ownered a Honda. Any advise about the price range (7-8K?) Is it as reliable as Toyota?

    I recently bought a 96 Accord EX, automatic with 57K miles on it and in near perfect condition. After doing the 60K mile servicing, I went on a 1K trip, and soon after that I noticed that the engine was running not as quite and smooth as it was before the trip. Also, when accelerating from the 3rd to the 4th gear, I get a hollow or an echoiee sound rather than the crisp pickup feel I used to get. It doesnt seem to be anything major, but I do love my Accord and want to keep it in a great condition. Can anyone have an educated guess as to what might be wrong, so that I can go to a service center with some informed background on the problem.

    I am trying to get Honda Accord EX-V6 in Cedar Rapids/ Iowa City, IA area. The one dealer I talked to is giving the same car with the price tag of $23,500 ( includes Mud Guard and Door Guard). It also includes -- what he calls - Honfidence -- it means that if I take oil change from them all the time till 7 years( or 100,000 miles) then the extended warranty fee will be waived. He gives 'Honfidence' for free. I walked out of the deal yesterday as the price I feel is too high. I was ready to pay $22,800 but he did not oblige.

    What do you think about that price ? $23,500? Is it a reasonable price. I think it is too high over the invoice.

    Do you or anybody you know got good deal on Honda Accord EX-V6 in this area ? If yes then please let me know dealership name and the salesman name.

    I had a used Mazda 626 and I am finally selling it off and buying a new Accord Ex V6.
    Are there are dealers in Northern Virginia who can sell me this car below invoice price of 22,375
    And what are the other costs involved and how much are they ??? for eg, tax, tags, title, processing, destination ??? How can I save some money...Also is it good to get Extended warranty ??? How much out of the door price am I a looking at ??

    I have an appointment with the FairFax Honda on Friday. Please advise.

    if you feel like driving to stafford, va... rule honda was great to my brother. just give them a call or fax them and tell them the lowest you're willing to go-with whatever options, and see if they'll match it.

    Sure - just turn off the a/c at the switch labeled "AC", and turn the temp to minimum. You will get fresh air at whatever is the ambient outside air temp at the time. We do this all the time during spring and fall when neither heat or humidity is an issue.

    Remember the AC compressor is not just there to cool the air - it also pulls moisture out of the air, which is why you want the AC on [and temp set appropriately] when defogging. But when neither heat or humidity are part of the equation, there is no reason to run the compressor - that's why they give you the switch.

    Can't believe my eyes -- we have a new 2001 EXL 4cyl with just 560 miles. Just noticed tonight
    we have a check engine light that stays on -- NO-- it is not the gas cap. Owners man. says it has to do with polution controls. Anyone else with a newer one of these -- had anything like this happen? -- Dealer will get a call first thing tomorrow-- Good grief -- I hope this is not an indicator of more problems -- Hell -- we have not even made the first payment!!!-- its only 2 weeks old!!

    It sounds like its just a sensor that went bad already. I've had a couple of different cars with the same problem that needed the O2 sensor replaced. They were not Hondas, however. I doubt you will have any other problems related to this.

    We used to have a '90 Accord LX and while nothing broke down (other than one recall -- understandable b/c it was the first year of production for that model) one thing that was just horrible about the car was its inability to clear away the fog built up inside the windows. With the heater working full blast, when there were 3 or 4 ppl inside, the windshields were all impossible to see through. Now we are faced with whether to go for the V6 EX Accord, Hyundai XG300, Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry, or the '02 Nissan Altima (may I stress, the NEXT Altima... NOT the current model). The Accord has the best price of them all (although the new Altima might beat it out in that category when it debuts), but the worry here is that the defroster wont clear up the windows (as dumb as it might sound... the previous accord we had WAS that BAD). Anyhow, please let me know if the current models no longer have this problem. Also fill me in on your opinion of those cars I'm comparing the Accord to.

    I've had a '88 and '91 Accord. With the Hondas, you have to put the air on fresh (not recirculate), and turn the AC on to clear the windows quickly. It works great when you do this.

    Yeah, I had a '91, and now have an '01, and the trick to defrosting ANY car is to use the AC compressor always when defogging, with fresh air coming in. Never had a problem. Just set the temp where you want it [high in the case of winter defogging], turn on the AC, and set the system to blow at the windshield. Can't imagine what the problem was...also I should add there shouldn't be that much interior fogging unless you are inadvertently running around with the recirculate switch on all the time. My mother, who was the original owner of the '91, was always turning off the outside air, and then wondering why the interior was like a sauna...

    actually, on the new accords, the AC is set to come on when you hit the defrost button.

    How many people don't know that. They think that air conditioning is only for cooling the car.

    Yeah, finally Honda made the A/C come on automatically when the defroest is on.

    Still, some people will see the A/C botton light up and will immediately switch it off.

    Then they wonder why they can't see!
