Ours has been flawless and very enjoyable for just over 4000 miles. I think you will be happy.

Depending where you are, that price may be a couple hundred too high. In competitive markets, the car now sells for nominal invoice, or even a bit less. Regardless, I think you will like the car a lot.

As far as I know the Accord was on a four year product cycle. I bought my first one in 1990 and then a new model came out in '94 and '98. Soooooo...shouldn't ther be a new one this fall (2002 model year) or has Honda gone to a five year product cycle?

I bought a '95 Accord EX auto 4 in November 1994. Knock on wood I haven't had it in the shop for anything but oil changes. It has 49,000 miles now. I plan to keep it for a while!

Someone was wondering about the road noise. Just in case: I was on the market recently and test-drove a new '01 Accord. The road noise is the same, I can assure you, as in the previous years, despite the PR statements. Not that it is awful in general, but my wife noticed it, too. She preferred Galant.

My wife drives a 2000 Honda Accord coupe, Ex V-6. The dealer just completed, about 2 weeks ago, the 22,000 mile checkup. They informed me that the front brakes were fine, but the rear brakes were down to .5mm of being at a point to be replaced. They did mention that the rear brakes are not as thick as the front brakes when they are new. However my wife is very upset , as she should be, about REAR brakes wearing out so fast. 90% of all her driving is on the freeway. Something does not add up. She does not drive with her emergency break on and is not a heavy to the metal driver.. Her 1991 Honda has 143,000 miles and STILL has the same rear brakes.. So my question is, could this be a defect that Honda is aware of?? Some feedback before I turn up the HEAT would be appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day!!
  • fxashunfxashun Member Posts: 747
problem with the rear brakes in recent memory. FWD cars don't even use the rear brakes heavily. It's weird to have to replace them so early. All you EX drivers keep an eye on that.

As an impartial bystander, I thought ral2167's comment perhaps contained a bit of an edge. Not that much, just a bit. I think perhaps it just hit a nerve with muckamuck who took it a little too personally. How's that? Now kiss and make up.

We just bought a EX-v6 for $22,650..which I believe is a hundred dollars or so under invoice. We are in Ohio and I am sure every market is a little different. We also replaced a 98 EX coupe with it which we loved but needed the 4 doors now(and our lease was up). We have only 400 miles on the new one and so far so good...we love it!

Does Honda Accord 2001 EX-V6 comes equipped with
keyless entry or is it an optional thing that I have to buy if I want.

    Thanks.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    Well,

Actually this has never been something that was "announced".

It just seems to have happened. It could also change in the future depending on a number of factors. Who knows?

Hi! I just bought a 2001 Accord EX (first new car ever!!). It came with alloy wheels standard, which I know nothing about (I never even heard of them, don't really know much about cars). I live in a small city and have been told that these alloy wheels can be stolen since they are expensive. However, dosen't one need to jack up the car to steel them? They aren't like hubcaps, right? I also heard that you can buy wheel locks to keep people from stealing them. Is this necessary? Will I have a key or something? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I really don't know anything about this stuff. I've always had cheaper, old cars. Thanks in advance for any info.

I would get Wheel locks from the Honda dealer. The rims are worth about $1000.00 and each of those tires are worth about $125.00, they are not Cheap tires on the EX model with 16 inch wheels.. I have seen all four wheels pulled off in about 1 minute.. Get the LOCKS!!

are only good against amateur thieves. They'll give you some reassurance in most places, but you'll have to carry them with you if you are going to change flats by yourself. You can get an idea of what it looks like by going to carparts.com since I can't post that link here.

canadiancl - are you suggesting those two kiss their bumpers together? That'll fun to watch.

IMO I don't like it. We may not always like some of the things that are said in this forum, but we have enough "big brother" watching everything we do, say, and how we spend our money...the list goes on. Geeezz is the world becoming a little to sensitive? Yes. Just my 2 cents. Anyway, I guess the hosts take their jobs very seriously... enough to delete a heated argument. Rent-a-cop?
  • juliejeweljuliejewel Member Posts: 7
Wow, I didn't know how expensive these tires are, thanks a lot rlonn. I'll definitely get the locks, even if it isn't a complete deterent. I went to carparts.com, I guess I had a completely different picture of what I thought they were. (I was picturing an actual lock and key!). The locks are really inexpensive too, I'll definitely get them. Thanks alot.

Hi! I am planning to buy a Honda Accord EX soon. Your deal for the EX-v6 seems good. Can you tell me which dealer you bought it from? Since I live in OH too, I can use that info. Thanks in advance.

Is 20,700 a good deal for a new EX?
  • juliejeweljuliejewel Member Posts: 7
I paid 20,400 for a new EX (automatic, 4cyl) including destination (plus tax & tags & stuff). Depends on where you are and how long the cars been there (so I've heard). The color I wanted wasn't available in too many places, but a friend of mine got an ex that had been at the dealer for quite a while and beat my price (can't remember by how much).

We bought our Honda at Ganley Honda in North Olmsted which is on the west side of Cleveland...very accessible from 480. We also bought our last Accord there in 1998. They always seem very willing to deal...it only took my husband about a half an hour to get to that price but he went in with a lot of info. They also have a website. We only had a small problem with them when we went to pick up the car..too long to go into here but they took care of it. I am not sure of the salesman's name but it is kind of a revolving door there...someone new all the time.

Just an FYI- when we were looking around we also tried other areas of the state and the Cleveland market seemed to have the best prices.

OK, I'm in Richmond, VA. There is a dealership in Staunton, VA (Rule) where we got them to $20,700 w/o any other options for the blue version with 300 miles, because they have to get it from another dealership. I'm willing to settle for a white one here in Richmond for the same price. On this board, I've been hearing a lot about people who have been getting at or below invoice on these cars. Any comments?

All 1998+ EX-V6 come with keyless entry/security alarm standard.

I bought my 2001 Accord EX at $20,147 ($50 below invoice) in Oklahoma City three weeks ago. At that time, I shopped four dealers in the region, and got offers at the invoice price from all of them. I also tried the Internet services, such as cardirect.com, autoweb.com etc. They all offered me around the invoice price. Maybe you guys could try those web sites. Either you could buy the car from them or use their price to bargain with your local dealers. Good luck.

So I've had the machine for bout 9 months now, and I still really want heated mirrors- like on the sister car, the Acura AL, and the the way that the Canadian DX and EX models are equipped (according to my owner's manual). Somebody out there has to know how I can make this work, I know the pieces fit, the wiring is probably there, and a place for the fuse. I'd like to hear if anyone else wants this too, or can help. By the way, love the car.

I bought my 2001 Accord Ex 4 Jr in the month of Feb for 19700 , it is 500 below invoice from a
dealer in Milwaukee(hi)Now I am not sure about the market prices. The dealer name is David Hobbs Honda.

My 2001 Accord LX is my first Honda.
I have scheduled an oil change with
a Honda dealer next week. I was very
    surprised that the owner's manual
    recommends 5W-20. Is this available
on the aftermarket? I checked a local
Autozone, and it had 5W-30 only.

    Thanks.

    Dave
  • jmtreetopjmtreetop Member Posts: 130
5W20 is available aftermarket but it is difficult to find.
  • ravynravyn Member Posts: 101
i believe the dealers use 5w30 anyway, but you can ask for 5w20.
it just depends on the conditions in which you drive.

I just bought a new 2001 Honda Accord with 4 cyl and auto--- is there a plug on the transmission to drain out the trans fluid and then replace it. I thought i read somewhere that you could just drain out 3 or 4 qts and replace it every so often.
Thanks in advance from a newbie.

I have a 99 ex v6 and I am looking for new tires. The factory tires were not that good in the rain and I am looking for something with better wet weather handling. Any ideas?
  • jrct9454jrct9454 Member Posts: 2,363
The instructions to reset it are in the owner's manual - I will get mine out of the '01 V6 and be right back with the answer...

Go to the Gauges Section [in my book, it is page 60 - may be different for the 2000 model]. The Maintenance Required Indicator is reset as follows:

    -Turn off the engine

-Press and hold the select/reset button on the instrument panel, and WHILE HOLDING IT DOWN, turn the ignition switch to the on position [position 2], without actually starting the engine. Hold the reset button for about 10 seconds, and the Maintenance light should go out.

I know this works - I've done it on both our Hondas and Acuras.

Although my '91 Accord EX 5 speed is still running fine and just turned over 380k miles last week, I thought this might be a good time to replace it. (daughter just turned 18 and will be starting college in Aug.). So I bought a new '01 Accord LX 5 speed from Borman Auto-Plex in Las Cruces, NM for $16999. Sales person was Susie Rollins. All went well and they couldn't have been nicer.

Advertising. Here in Mississippi where I live Honda dealers seldom advertise on local TV, and their print ads are discreet, for want of a better word. Other import dealers such as Nissan and particularly Toyota in both TV and print are of the screamer, in your face hollering variety. Just curious, is this the case nationally, or just in my area?

Sorry for the repeat posting (I'm sure)... but I'm looking for sites on the internet to buy honda parts at discount prices. Specifically, I'm looking for a small hood bra and the mud-guards for '01 Honda Accord Cpe EX.

I am interested in uncovering the best price anyone has managed to negotiate in Canada for a new 2001 Accord EX V6. Any experience you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am also considering purchase of a Demonstrator, and would like to know what I can expect to get off of the price should I do so.

Thanks very much for any assistance!

    Hello,

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the relative value of purchasing new vs. used LXV6. The diffs I can tell: side airbags (not til '00), traction control, and then things like CD changer, etc. But the airbags and the TC would matter to me. The CD wouldn't.

    1) is the TC really useful and worth springing for new?

    2) Is it silly to buy an off-lease used Accord or smart? We're not too floating in money right now, but we don't want to do something stupid. The diff seems to be about $1K a year (as in around 20,5 for '01, and 17,5 for '98). Is it worth it? We plan to drive this car into the ground, like our '86 Camry and our '90 LeSabre :).

Thanks so much for any help--we can see a '98 today so I need advice soon!

    Best,
    ajacat

i have the 2001 lx-- the side air bags are nice but -- they may never be used-- same with traction control--- personally, i like having both just in case.

the cd changer isn't a big deal-- since the honda head unit is very weak-- the solara i once owned had a much nicer stock sound system-- honda needs to improve its audio big time when the 2003 gets redesigned...

380K on a '91? That's a helluva lot of driving. Very impressive. How many domestic autos do you see with that kind of performance? Your case is a classic example as to why Hondas are the best cars on the road for overall satisfaction.

The 5 speeds are great. You can't kill 'em.

I have a 2000 V6 and have been noticing that the side airbag light comes on intermittely. Has anyone experienced this problem. I called the dealer and was given a pretty stupid reason. He said sometimes the light will come on if the person in the passenger seat moves suddenly. I was told not to worry about it. I feel that Honda should develop a system that dosent works better than this. Has anyone had this problem????

Hello folks. I used Edmunds as a tool before my wife a I bought our 01Civic,but my 87 Legend is
about to kick the bucket. I'm interested in buying a 96 Accord LX w/91000 miles,5 spd from
a gentleman out in RedBank ,N.J. He's the original owner and has all maintanance records
which shows that he changed the timing belt and water pump. He's asking $8800.,which seems about right for the car. To make it short, can you tell me whether this sounds like a good deal and is there anything i should inspect or look closely at before i buy the car. I've owned an 86 and an 87 Accord before my Acura and for sure I know after 100k miles the cv joints/axles tend to wear down, but i would love to read what else i might need to look for,thanks....
  • tazsm97tazsm97 Member Posts: 1
380,000 miles on a '91! My '87 LX only has 125,000 miles on it, but it's still going strong. Just passed it along to the next Honda generation when I bought my new LX-V6 this month...and I'm loving it!
  • truck96truck96 Member Posts: 22
Since you have 380k on your 91 accord can you post some of the Maintance you did. Such as when did your front and rear brake pads had to be replaced, same for the timing belt, water pump, trans, av joints rotors. This information would be great coming from you since you got the miles to prove it.
    Thanks in advance
