In May, 2000 I bought a new Honda Accord EX V6 in Montreal, Canada for $30,075 (before taxes). Included in the deal: simulated wood grain on dash, doors & center console; GOLD emblem kit (well worth getting).
3 days after I bought my 2000 Honda Accord EX V6, the SRS warning light came on and stayed on.
I took it it to the dealer, and it turned out to be a faulty SRS unit. The dealer promptly replaced it. Be careful, however, as I was very nervous about driving the car with the warning light on. The reason? Fear that the air bag would engage, possibly causing me to lose control at high speeds.
The SRS warning light covers problems with both the front and side air bags.
Look, the cars involved need an expert, caring, technician to give them a good 4-wheel alignment with state-of-the-art equipment. That may or may not be the local dealer. Look for someone who specializes in sports or racing setups in the Yellow Pages. Cost will be under $100. You can also try rotating tires from front to back and side to side, in case one of the tires has a defect that is causing the wander, something that is unusual but hardly unheard-of.
The EX V6 has heated external mirrors as STANDARD equipment.
Do you mean these mirrors or are there others?
I have a 2000 Accord EX V6, and love the car! No steering
problems of any kind...the handling is great.
However, on sharp turns, the car`s rear end does seem to
want to thrust outward (centrifugal force). For this reason,
I'd love to have all-wheel drive, or traction control.
I almost purchased the 2000 Subaru Lagacy GT.....but I've always felt that Subaru is pricing itself out of the market. The pricing
on the WRX is ludicrous!

Pluses:
1. Roomy - lot's of niches to put stuff away, coins, cd's, maps, notepads, etc. Front and back seats especially if you have a small child.
2. Powerfull - V6 plus the light weight of the car make a good combination.
3. Good looks - I like the body style, and the dashboard is pleasant to look at (more refined than Camry), steering wheel (leather wrapped)looks and feels good too.
4. Handling - Very good.
5. Cost - Less expensive than Camry or Passat.
Minuses:
1. Noisy - When driving over 50 mi/hr road noise from tires and wind noise can be overwhelming (Camry is much quieter, even Corolla is quieter).
2. Transmission response - Automatic transmission sometimes shifts with a delay (0.5-1 second), this can be a bit unnerving when trying to switch lanes and speed up at the same time (Toyotas are better with this)
3. Car stereo - stinks! Component speakers up-front need at least 18 RMS from head unit, this unit produces about 7-8. Rear speakers are almost non-existant. With this car, if you want better sound replace the head unit first. (It's a good idea to replace the speakers too) I would recommend Alpine 60 watts/channel head unit and Infinity Reference speakers. Oh, the antenna in the window is a bad idea too.
Would I buy an Accord again? Well, the most annoying thing for me is road noise. If that is problem is not addressed, I will not.
My '01 EX V6 responds instantly to the throttle, and downshifts have always seemed timely to me. I've rarely in my car buying history had this much power to work with, so maybe my standards aren't tough enough. Similarly, we think the sound system is fine, but then this has never been a priority with us. Half the time, even on longer trips, the sound is off, so we can talk or just enjoy the scenery quietly...yeah, I know, hardly typical...
The michelines used on the Accord are costlier than the quite tyres camry uses. I have seen my friends needing new tyres at 30,000 mile service for their 4 cyl camrys. Also have seen a lot of used 98 camrys with very bad tyres in used car market. On the other hand micheline son Accord go for 45k+ miles which is quite a good thing if you consider the savings.
Believe me, changing your tyres on Accord will get rid of 95% of the noise.
I can vouch for the Michelins..my 99 sedan had 38k on it and the tires looked like new and still had a good 15k left in them. Of course this is with frequent rotate and balances..but no alignments were necessary.
A few other comments: I didn't notice much difference in quietness; I thought that both were very quiet cars. The Camry was definitely smoother riding on bumpy roads. The Accord seemed to a little bit more of the 'feel' of a firm grip on the road. Both cars shifted smoothly. The Accord had more zip, at least if you tromp on the accelerator. If you floor the accelerator on the Accord, the automatic transmission lets the engine wind up almost to redline before shifting. This is the 4-cylinder Accord, so you do hear it when it winds like that, but it remained very smooth.
Finally, if 50% of the cars in stock have the problem, I would choose my new car from among the other 50%.
I desperately need the advive so that I donot have to repent later.
Thanks
This late in the year, I don't think you should be paying anything over invoice on an '01. I paid just a bit under invoice in June of 2000. Sales are slower now, and in this area at least, Accords are going well under invoice. Especially with the re-designed Camry and Altima coming out.
Have a super day!
I'd be frustrated too.
50%!!?? I guess I'll start listening harder.
I keep quite detailed records, but won't bore you with too many details. I change oil and filter (Castrol GTX 10w30 oil and ABF [anything but Fram] filter) every 3k miles. Valve adjustments, through about the first 200k, were every 15k; now they are every 30k. Plugs, gearbox oil and air filter every 30k, fuel filter every 45 to 60k, and timing belt, water pump and balancer belt every 75k. CV joints have been changed twice. Clutch, gearbox, starter and alternator (all from junkyard, except clutch) have been changed once - clutch and gearbox (bearing went bad) at 213k miles. I've changed front brake pads
probably half a dozen times and rear brake shoes once, at about 325k. The radiator had been worked on a couple of times; both radiator fans were changed, the a/I one twice. The original battery lasted a couple or three years as did the replacement. Since then I've used aftermarket
batteries and twice had to change them because they leaked. I replaced the muffler about a year ago. Both front door handles (inside) broke and were replaced; the driver's and rear passenger's side window winding mechanisms were replaced. The radio antenna (just antenna; not motor) was replaced. The ignition switch has been replaced twice. There are a few things I've forgotten, too.
I live in El Paso, TX and drive, almost weekly, to Chihuahua, Mexico, a round trip of about 600 miles with the driving around I have
to do. In the summer (air conditioning all the time), I get in the mid to high 20's driving between 85 and 90mph. In the winter, it's a couple of mpg better. In the US (usually 70 to 75mph), I get close to 30 in the summer and 31 to 32 in the winter. Around town is in the low to mid 20's. I have never had to replace any of the fuel injection system nor the oxygen sensor. The car still passes the annual inspections, including exhaust gas check, here in El Paso. The head has never been off the engine. It uses about half a quart of oil between (3000 mile) changes. The radio is about to die and the low fuel light hasn't worked for the past quarter of a million miles. Other than that, it's fine!
Regards,
Phil
I assumed(incorrectly) that you were from Canada.
Unfortunately, I don't know if HEATED external mirrors are standard on Accord EX V6 in the United states. They ARE standard in Canada.
But I don't see why, if you buy the top-of-the-line Accord that you should not get heated external mirrors as standard equipment.
If you are really stuck, call Honda U.S.
