This one looks similar to the other pic we've seen, although, for some reason, it doesn't look as sleek.
I like the new Altima also..but back in 2000 I did not have much choice than the Accord & I am enjoying it to the fullest extent.
Your comments about the transmission shifting...??
I don't have the FOGGIEST idea what you are talking about!

mmx6 - I'm puzzled as to why you didn't notice any of this on your repeated test drives. But, anyhow, I think you're stuck.
can you add cruise control, either by honda or other after market? Cost? what do you think of doing this, getting a great deal, 28k miles ("grandma's car") for my son $6500
thanks
So far I only did regular oil changes, synthetic oil every 6,000 miles, and I also changed transmission fluid. This week I will have cooling fluid replaced. Changed original Michelin tires do Yokohama YK 420 205/60/15 at 56,000 miles. I am satisfied with the new tires but I would rate them about the same as Michelin. At $62 per tire Yokohama are much cheaper then Michelin. I also had front brakes done by local Precision Tune franchise at 58,000 miles and they did a very bad job. This week I will have them look at the brakes under warranty. The brakes are very noisy, brake pedal pulsates under harder braking. In my opinion the brakes is one area where Honda could improve quite a bit. The brake feel is good, talking about original brakes, but stopping distance is long. Even the new Acura RSX has long stopping distance. I am thinking about replacing my other car, 98 escort, with 2003 Accord.

and wood grain trim on console, door and audio panel and we agreed upon $24,436 + TTL -5000 cash downpayment @19% for 60 months, which comes to 559$ a month. Yes, it's very high interest rate because I have a spotty credit, but partly I'm doing this to improve my credit and also planning to pay it off within 2 yrs. So principal was more important than the loan interest rate. I went to the dealer on 12/27 to pick up my car and asked for extended warranty. The finance guy showed me many options and told me how much it would add to my monthly payment. He said I would only pay 10$ more if and when I purchase 6yrs/100k miles platinum warranty with no deduction (it's not Honda care, it's Fidelity warranty), 10 yrs paint protection, window etching, credit insurance and GAP coverage. I was really glad that I could get all these for mere 10$ extra a month. So I agreed to purchase all those and he left me in the office and came back a few minutes later and told me "You even don't have to pay 10$ more since I lowered your rate to 18%." He gave me about 10 copies to sign here and there and I waited about 2 hrs for them to put fog lights and audio panel wood trim (the trim on the console and doors haven't been put in yet since they were not in stock) and picked up the car and drove back home. The next day I went through the contracts (by the way I definitely know this was my fault that I didn't read the contracts before I signed on them) and found out GAP coverage was 495$ and credit insurance was 786$. And I realized I really wouldn't need those since I was planning to pay off in a couple of yrs. So I wondered if I could get woodgrain steering wheel instead and called the finace guy at the dealer and that's when I started realizing I was ripped off. He told me over the phone "You'd better not cancel those because that's how you got 7.59% rate." I said "what?" and now I was reading the contract really carefully and yes the contract says 7.59% for 60 months(he never mentioned it at the office, he specifically told me it would be 18% so it wouldn't add anything to my original estimated monthly payment figure.) But the car price was jacked up by exactly 2,950$. So I said "Ok I'm really happy I got the lower rate but why is the car price almost 3000$ more expensive than original agreement?" And he said "Oh, nothing's wrong, don't worry, OK?" I hung up the phone so that I could calculate everything correctly. And the contract indicates Cash price 27386(again original deal was 24436), less down payment 5000, credit insurance 786, gap coverage 495, fidelity warranty 1495, doc fee, license, sales tax and the total comes to 27687. And I just couldn't find what jacked up the car price by 2950. I called him up again and said, "there must have been some sort of mistake" and he said "No there's no mistake," So I asked him if he could go over the contract and he said "oh, this is a bad time, why don't you come in tomorrow I explained everything to you." I realized at that point there's nothing I could do with him over the phone, So I hung up. Now I called the Honda Headquarter and explained exactly what happened and had it documented. The representative told me to go talk to the dealer since it seems they're willing to work with me. So I told them I would notify them with result after I'd have visited the dealer. I didn't have time to visit the dealer over the weekend so I went there today, 12/31. The finance guy said extended warraty is actually 2800, not 1495 as it was indicated on the contract, so that extra 1300, paint protection for 1290, and the etching for 360 were added into the car price. So I told him "I don't want all these extra if it adds that much to car principal so please cancel all these except etching that was already done and give me 19% interest rate." And he said "No I can't do that, the deal already went through, What you can do is to cancel the Gap coverage and Credit insurance and extended warranty in a couple of months then you can still keep the lower rate." So I said "But what was the extra 1300 for extended warranty?" And he said that was 4yrs/48k miles maintenece plan, which, by the way, was never discussed or indicated to me before. I asked him to put that 1300 into the warranty price, not the car price which he refused to do. (At least that way when I cancel it I can get prorated refund) I asked him to cancel the paint protection plan which was not performed on the car yet and he said he couldn't do it since he already ordered it. (Also it should have never added into the car price. It should have been calculated seperately) Now I realized there was nothing I could do with him at this point and came back home. I called the Honda headquarter to update the process but they were closed for holiday. I called Fidelity warraty to get exact price but they were closed as well. So now I have to wait till 1/2/02 to act further. I called the dealer again and said "Please cancel all the extra and gave me the original deal" and he said "hey you were here for about 2 hrs on the day you picked up the car. Is there anything I could do to make you happy? did you have spoiler on the car already?" I said I would call the Honda headquater to report all this and he asked me "for what?" I said "have them document everything." He told me to come to the dealer on next friday or saturday so that he can give me all the documentation. I guess he was playing naive as if he didn't understand what I meant by having Honda document the situation.
Now this is what has happened so far. I'm very upset with myself that I didn't check the contracts before I signed. Only if I had done that I wouldn't have gone through all these hassle and unpleasant exprience especially in the holiday time. I'm not trying to nullify the deal, but I'm not going to be a victim of sneaky dealership. I think I have a case because they add 1300 into car price for maintenance which was never discussed and also it should have been added into extra warranty price or seperate added item, not into the car price under any circumstance. They refused to cancel the paint protection plan which hasn't performed on the car yet and the cost of it shouldn't have been added into the car price either.
I really need an advice from someone who is familiar with this kind of situation regarding what my options are. If the dealer won't correct any wrongdoing with further discussio
Can you believe it, Hyundai finished in 1st place. They said the ride was nice, standard equipment is very good, and they said A LOT more but I can't type it now. But I am amazed. I don't recall anytime that Hyundai has beat Honda. Could this make people see the NEW Hyundai and how much they have matured? Also, in the Sonata forum; you can read a post by BIG W, who posted that the Sonata GLS V6 GLS ,pkg 13 ,also got first place. I hear a lot of ppl critize how if we want to roll with the big boys Hyundia has to be a big boy.. I guess now is a time to laugh in there face!
from ww.t-h-c.org;general discussions,xg300/350.seems for every one slam, Hyundai gets a Wham..slam a home -run!
hjr2: Don't believe everything that you read.
I don't know whose bubble is going to get bursted...
I did not hear it when I test drove it. I guess it's very noisy on the busy street.
Does it have something to do with the engine or transmission? Is the engine or transmission system not so good on this car? I am feeling bad... PLEASE please give some imput. Thanks a lot.
:-)
If you live in the Washington, DC area I can recommend a very good attorney who saved me over $10,000 on a very bad car deal last summer. In my case, the dealer actually violated a federal truth-in-lending law and that's the only reason I got out of the deal. Most lawyers will meet with you in person for an initial consultation and at that time he or she will be able to review all of your paperwork and tell you if you have a case against the dealer.
Sorry to hear about all of this. I've been there myself and it ain't no fun, so I know how you're feeling right now. Hang in there.
Keep in mind that most dealerships have their own attorneys while you have to go thru the hazzle of finding one and then paying him with very poor odds in you favor, sometimes just by the act of getting a lawyer one falls into another mud hole, then they have the paper work to prove their case while all you have is your word. Sometimes they will concede if a particular customer is extremely hard headed and willing to go to extremes and create bad publicity, and say we do not want a customer who things he was treated wrong, so we are willing to cancel the contract but the car is titled in your name and is used and we are going to discount the depreciation from it, back to square one.
Things that hurt you is what you don't know, that is why they have the small print and long and confusing forms, to discourage the customer from reading all that stuff.
One of the benefits of buying premium cars is that most of that chicanery is over with.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.
Anyone else notice this.
Try the squeegee method and I bet that will work. Or, move to Buffalo NY and see if your defogger works better in that environment (just kidding)!
Again thanks a lot for reading my rather long story and I'd like to spread it more so that any other consumers don't have to go through this unpleasant process. After all we should be happy buying a new car. I'll update on this case after I contact a lawyer. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
I'm not an attorney myself, but simply overcharging you for the price of the car isn't against the law. It's unethical, but not illegal (unless they sold you an Accord for $70,000 or something crazy like that). Overcharging you $3,000 is wrong, but they are within their rights to do that if they think someone will pay that, in my humble opinion.
In order to get out of this deal, you probably need to be able to show that the dealer intentionally defrauded you in some way. Have your lawyer review every single piece of paper that you signed and hopefully he or she will find something irregular or questionable that will allow you to get out of this deal. It costs a dealership thousands of dollars to litigate one car deal in court (legal fees, depositions, court costs), and most of them choose to take the car back rather than spend that kind of money.
Just remember, never ever sign any document that you haven't read completely or that you don't understand fully. Your signature is like dynamite. Be very, very careful with it!

I have purchased many cars in the past but honestly none of them was unpleasant. Now I have to question everything, everyone and be cautious all the time. Some nice way to live a life. Here's the advice from the stupid one: take your recorder with you when you have to make any kind of deal. If I had recorded when he proudly told me "I lowered your rate to 18%," they wouldn't have had any way out. Today initially he still insisted we discussed the maintenance plan. Do they ever give up?
Yes I will cancel the credit insurance, GAP coverage, and extended warranty within 2 months. Again thanks everyone for your advice and I promise I'll do my best not to make similar mistake in the future. Happy New Year.
PS. I had a feeling that they were very aware(or afraid) of Honda Headquarter.
I have bougth many cars for the last 30 years, I have been in and heard of so much chicanery that I could write a paper about it.
I cant think of no other business more dreadfull than buying a car, today that I am older and confortable still cringe about the idea, I have to buy a new car for my wife, six months ago I went to a dealer and he started his riga marole, in the middle of it I got up and got in my car and left, at least it was better than the time before were we traded words, they were looking from behind the glass panel and wondering what happened, I should have got a car by now but dont have the stomach, I will force myself one of this days because I cant let her go by herself, they will do a job on her for sure.
I went through a similar situation last July while trying to purchase a Nissan Altima that cost me $900 in legal fees but in the long run I saved over $10,000 in the process, so it was all for the good. Now I'm the happy owner of a 2001 Accord.
I have the utmost contempt for car dealers. I think they are some of the most unethical, dishonest, and distrustful people you'll ever have to deal with. The next time I buy a car, I'm almost certain I'm going to have a buying service do it for me. I guess to be fair, there are some honest car dealers out there. But the vast majority of them I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole.
That picture of his family on his desk that you mentioned? Don't let that fool you. He just has that up there to give you the impression that he's some sort of God-fearing, honest, family man who won't steer you wrong. Nothing could be farther from the truth, though. He's really a wolf in sheep's closing (like most dealers are).
Just remember...NEVER sign anything that you haven't read completely or do not understand fully. If you're unsure about the whole car buying process, have a buying service do it for you, or bring someone along who's got more experience than you do and can spot a bad deal.
Sorry to come down on any car dealers out there who are reading this. I know that there are some of you who are good, honest people. I guess I just haven't been lucky enough to meet any of them yet!
2001 EX-V6 white with tan leather, sunroof, TCS, etc...you all know what comes on them.
The car is in immaculate condition with 12,500 miles. We bought the car in Sept. 2000 when they first hit the dealerships but we just never drive the car.
We had a baby very soon after that and drive the SUV everywhere.
I am asking $19,000 for it and would take $18,500 which is just payoff.
My wife's commute to work is less than a mile and honestly that is about as far as we ever drive it.
My wife parks it in front of her bank everyday which is on the Main Street in town and I took an ad out in the paper.
I know I would beaten up trying to trade it in so I am willing to be patient. Any thoughts on the selling price or help would be appreciated.
Real World Trade In Values
The experts over there will give you a realistic selling price as well as some ideas on selling it fast.
Good Luck.
A dealer that I went to was only willing to give me $2,300 BELOW what CarMax offered.

Sadly, I guess there are dealerships that still operate that way.
I guess with the low interest rate financing at the dealerships nobody wants to look at individuals selling cars.
sobers-I am located in Oklahoma. Be more than happy to give more info if asked.
stevem327, I have never heard of a Carmax around here but I will do a quick search on the Internet.
Thanks.
Thanks.
