We just took our 2004 Ford Explorer XLS Sport 4x4 on a 1440 mile round trip vacation. The Explorer did a great job. We averaged about 75 mph on the highway and were able to get 19-20 mpg. We just cracked the 10,000 mile mark on our 2004 Explorer XLS Sport 4x4. We've had it since September. Both my wife and I are HUGE fans of the Explorer. Roomy, nice ride, good power, easy to access dashboard buttons and controls. After driving Hondas and Toyotas, this was our first Ford, and we have been very impressed.

Go with the Grand Prix. You had crappy luck with the Impala, why go down that road again? Sure there are some nice features in the Impala, but the Grand Prix has been one of the best domestic sedans for a long time. Also, read the Grand Prix posts. I have a 2 year old Accord LX with 40,000 miles. No problems, whatsoever. I also have a 2001 LX with 4500 miles on it. Great cars. Reading the posts of many different kinds of sedans, it seems that Honda still makes the highest quality cars at a reasonable price.
