Direct Injection Noise
I purchased the 2014/tech model 60 days ago and have driven the vehicle 1,200 miles. After a couple of uneventful weeks I noticed an annoying ticking sound intruding from the engine compartment into the cabin. To drown out the sound I had to set the audio system at volume 5, which existing 2014 owners can attest is a decent sound level.
I brought this to a attention of the dealer service tech and he confirmed that this sound is coming from the direct injection system which is new to the 2014 MDX and RLX. I called a second dealership and the service tech also confirmed this as the root cause of the sound and stated that they had received numerous questions and complaints on this matter.
Both service techs advised that Acura is aware of this problem but that no solution is at hand. My first 2 Acuras were RLs and both interiors were mausoleum quiet. I'm disappointed that Acura did not achieve this level of refinement with the MDX.
