2005 Jaguar Super V8
So kindly unlock your caps key for future posts - we'd all appreciate that very much.
The new XJ has a curve that starts in the rear door, like older Jaguars. The previous XJ did NOT have a curve that started in its rear door.
The new aluminum XJ's outer headlights are bigger than the inner headlights, like the original XJ. Both of the previous XJ's headlights were the same size.
Have you driven the new aluminum XJ?
Which Motor Trend issue says the ride quality sucks?
I have driven a 2004 Jaguar XJR and was very impressed. I loved the view from the driver's seat of the hood. Brembo brakes are STANDARD on the new XJR and Super V8, unlike the previous XJ.
The new XJ uses magnesium in the seat frames.
"The complete body with weighs 650 pounds compared with an estimated 1,058 pounds for the same car in steel, 952 pounds for a Mercedes-Benz S-class, and 955 pounds for a 7-series BMW."

The new aluminum XJ's chassis is 40 % lighter and 60 % stiffer than if it were steel.
I think the new XJ is gorgeous. Here is a 2004 XJR in Zircon.
The 2005 Jaguar Super V8, the XJ flagship, weighs over 800 pounds less than the BMW 760Li. It is shown below.
XJ's aluminum chassis
The 2005 Jaguar XKR is also gorgeous.
Jaguar's 4.2 V-8 does not have the potential timing chain tensioner or nikasil problems of 4.0 V-8 from the 97-00 XK8 and 98-00 XJ8. It is MUCH smoother than the 4.0 V-8. Here is Jaguar's 4.2 390 hp supercharged V-8
The 6 speed ZF automatic transmission used in new V-8-powered Jaguars is much smoother and responsive than the previous 5 speed automatic transmission used in older V-8-powered Jaguars.
The next-generation Jaguar XK8 will use the new XJ's aluminum chassis. It will have to meet new European pedestrian safety regulations. The next S-Type will likely also use the new XJ's aluminum chassis.
Jaguar's V-8 is an all-Jaguar V-8. The new 4.2 V-8 does not have the potential timing chain tensioner or nikasil problems of the 98-00 XJ8. Check the following link:

I find it sad for someone to write off a car without showing any facts or even driving the car. Which issue of Motor Trend said that the ride quality of the new XJ sucks?

An excerpt --
...Something else to think about: ride quality. Generally, the long-wheelbase XJ treats its occupants to a smooth, luxurious ride. However, the suspension loses too much composure over bumps, dips and highway expansion joints — to the point that these impacts become an event for rear passengers. Heard from the Jag's backseat on one two-hour drive: "This car doesn't ride too well, does it?"
thnx
(if ne body helps)
A 1995-1997 XJ6 is reliable and much more affordable.
The new aluminum XJ's chassis is 40 % lighter and 60 % stiffer than if it were steel.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

So, nothing major so far. Two problems in almost 30,000 miles, both minor. I love the car.
Car has been taken apart to "try " and chemical weld it together !
A nightmare of a situation......Rusnak trying very hard, but having to follow Jaguar USA guidelines...very unresponsive to our needs. Roof / pillar welds are spliting apart and they are saying "its OK" , we'll glue it back together !
Was the car damaged before you took delivery?
The new Jaguar XJ has few welds.
check "The New Aluminum Jaguars" thread for information on how the XJ's aluminum chassis is assembled."
Aluminum underbody components are fastened together with aerospace-grade epoxy adhesives and some 3,200 self-piercing rivets to create the new XJ's chassis.
It is high-tech stuff.
check the "New aluminum Jaguars" thread for information on how the XJ is assembled.
I'd also like to know if this XJ was damaged before delivery.

you should get an accurate mechanical guage and hook it up ASAP and see what is going on with the pressure.
what about when you first start the car and the oil is "cold". does the gauge go down and light come on? or does the pressure stay up until the oil warms up?
Not to scare you (well maybe you should be a little scared) - but a worn out main bearing can do what you describe. at lower rpm the worn bearing flows all the oil pump capacity and the pressure drops to zilch. and - the fluky thing is it may not even make any knocking noises - because it only touches under high load - and with all the other noise you can't hear it.
of course just overall general wear of the crank bearings. cam bearings, etc. can cause this. including wear of the oil pump itself. the oil pump has a certain amount of internal leakage that will increse with time - or if the oil pump is re-built with excessive internal clearance.
oh - the insidious thing about one worn out crank bearing is that with the crankshaft unsupported at that location it will bend and overstress the shaft - causing the crank to fatigue and break. so - it is not something to ignore. My .02c good luck.
