Thanks
I am new to this group, and it is nice to find such a forum, and I need help FAST!
I bought a Verona on May 19th, and put 1700 miles on it. I LOVE THE CAR, I have 2, actually, one in my Shanghai residence (Daewoo Magnus), and took delivery of my Verona the day after I returned. I was inpressed with my Magnus, and even had bought a Daewoo grille and emblems for me Verona...
ANYWAY, the car has stalled about 30 times. When it stalls it is generally under acceleration (highway entrance ramp) or a steady 40MPH. My car is on its second visit to the shop, total days in shop: 24! THANK GOD FOR THE FREE RENTAL CAR!!
I checked online, and of the 12 complaints the NHTSA received on this car, 11 were for stalling. MY dealer has antoher one that Suzuki repurchased sitting on their lot with the same problem.
According to Suzuki, they are aware of this problem with many Veronas. They have a fix involving repromming of the ECM, BUT the EPA has to approve it! So these cars cannot be fixed...yet.
SO, today, I was offered a trade out of it. BUT NOT A VERONA. Suzuki will not assist me in a Verona. I dont want an SUV or a Forenza. I got the EX Verona.
The dealer carries Kia and Isuzu, and I really have no choice but an Optima, but, I REALLY WANTED TO SWAP IT FOR A VERONA JUST LIKE IT!
HELP?!?!?!?!!
Tired of my F-150 rental!
Eric
Problems with the automatic climate control were the diplay would "scramble" the temperature readings.
I have a feeling the idle problem COULD be related to the stalling problem...
If the dealer buys the car back, I have new in box factory bra, new in "bag" floor mats, and the European spec Daewoo grille and emlblems..
I REALLY want another Verona, but Suzuki won't let me, I guess I have to enjoy the one I have in Shanghai.
I know this problems does not affect all Veronas, and that is why I wanted an exchange. The dealer has another one just like mine in the showroom.
The service mangager at the dealership tells me mine will be the third Verona repurchased.
I love this darn car, I just want another one! The only way for me get another one it seems is to go ahead and hire an attorney and do the lemon law thing. That can take ALOT of time.
In Ohio, to qualify for the lemon law, the dealer is given 3 tries to fix one problem, OR 30 days in the shop (25 so far) OR ....get this...ONE time for a potentially life threatening problem (I met that requirement.) I would get back every dime spent on the car if I did this.
Then, the consumer has the option for a FULL refund, OR a replacement car.
If I go this route, it can take months, and can cost me money out of pocket...I dont have the time, as I need to get back to China ASAP for business.
Below are ALL the compalints filed with the NHTSA on the VERONA...

HOWEVER DEALER CLAIMS "THERE IS NO PROBLEM, YOU JUST DON'T LIKE THE VEHICLE"). PROBLEMS WITH IDLING AND THE CAR CUTTING OFF. PROBLEM WITH GEARS NOT SHIFTING FAST ENOUGH (MINE IS AN AUTOMATIC) BUT IT STALLS ALL THE TIME WHEN I AM TRYING TO ACCELERATE. I AM EXTREMELY UNHAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS AUTOMOBILE. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO BUY A SUZUKI. I'VE PRETTY MUCH BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM THAT THEY CANNOT FIND MY "MYSTERY COMPLAINTS" AND THAT THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO THINGS THEY CAN'T FIND. IT'S ALL A BUNCH OF BULL! I DO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT OTHER OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT, IT'S NOT ALL IN MY HEAD!

1. Detect which fuel injector is bad and replace it.
2. Perform a professional fuel injection service.
3. Only use regular 87 octane unleaded. daewoos seem to be sensitive to fuel additives.
I doubt it has anything to do with the ECM. Suzuki really does not know because this car is not a Suzuki and they have not had any experience with it.
Try the above and thank me later.
My first stall happened on THE DAY I TOOK DELIEVERY of the car, with less than 50 miles on it. No way it is an injector.
Like I said, they say they have a fix, ECM software upgrade, BUT they have to get EPA approval first, since it will change the emissions...
I was surprised when I found all the complaints to the NHTSA on the car for the same problems I have been having...
The other one with exactly the same problem as mine that was repurchased by Suzuki also has a cold idle problem, as mine does.
I was also told that when it stalls, the computer reboots to "new" so there are no codes stored, and the "fuzzy" settings are lost.
If all are recalled it might be massive for the model, but it is a drop in the bucket in the automotive world.
This also means that there is likely not a huge work force of staff working on the problem. Good luck, I think you may need it.
This is may be part of the perils of buying a car from a very small manufacturer. I wonder how parts availability and prices for these parts will be a few years down the road for a very limited volume car?
Number of stalls = none
Cold starts = none.
A/c electrical problems = none
Running = very smooth.
Fuel used = 87 octane.
Oil= 5W30 with starburst symbol.
Complaints = none so far.
I wonder if eric's car is a lemon?
I must say that you have to get used to the nuances of the car like..the car improves after 3000 miles. If your car does'nt kick the first time, wait for 10 secs before firing it again.
Be careful of the fuel you put in. Use the same pump always if possible.
good luck with the car eric.
Its a long time since I've seen posts of veronaowner, lil20300, alpha and other regulars. A note about the irritable engine check light that has some Verona owners perplexed. One of the main reasons is that the sensors of the gas cap are senstive to moisture or improper closure. If you reclose the fuel cap with three turns, the problem goes away. Also the closure plate is not well designed as it allows rain water to get inside and around the fuel cap. Suzuki should put a rubber gasket lining to prevent water from swishing around the fuel cap. On wiping the area dry the engine check light vanishes. That is not to say that this is the only cause. Fuel quality also seems to affect the computer. In all cases I think its best for Suzuki dealers to address the issue and for Suzuki to remedy the defects.
on the car and purchased it last Oct. I had the right rear seat belt replaced as it locked up and would not extend to go over a person in the seat.
I had a problem with a Sun roof part that caused a rattle and the part was replaced. Confusion of the type oil which has now been acknowledged by the dealer and they have the proper oil (5W-30).
I have had a few seconds of rough engine running when first started. It goes away in less than a minute.
I hope I excape the problems experienced by imissmyverona and a couple of others on this board. I need to get more miles on mine to check it out.
Enjoy your Verona, I enjoy mine.
The Verona is a very good car. I'm afraid you missed a good chance of giving it a try.
They have no fix yet, www.nhtsa.gov has over a dozen complaints on stalling, and this is NOT what I paid for.
Under Ohio law, I get back all my money, payments, tax, extendand warranty, not even a pro-rated amount for use.
What do I intent to do after I get the refund? Wait it out, see if and when Suzuki gets the fix, then I will probably get a 2005 Verona, or the restyled 05 Sonata/Optima, or possible a Kia Amanti.
Has anyone gone to NHTSA and seen all the compalints?
Cheers!
Not user friendly. But you can see the complaints on this and any other car.
Also, will it have more horsepower? IF yes, how much more?
I like everything about the Verona except the occassional roughness at start time that people are talking about.
~alpha
Spyshots of that car look great! Seems to have everything! Accord, Camry, Altima and the Mazda 6 may soon have to try very hard to catch up with the 05 Sonata. I won't be surprised if that happens.
But I am digressing. Verona is a great car. All that I am asking is a little more horespower ( in the 210 - 230 HP range ) and side air bags.
Different vehicle I realize, however the circumstances are nearly identical.
The thing that got me during my first ordeal was the fact that Suzuki did not believe me which is why I had to go file a claim. But now, from what I have been told this time around, my car along with 3 other Veronas are now sitting in the shop waiting for Suzuki to come and fix them. So I am in loaner car number 7.
Good Luck to you all who have not experience any problems. But if you do, don't let them fool you. I am a witness that this car has major problems.
Yes it does seem to have everything. Styling cues from everything else on the market that is.
If you had really filed a lemon law claim and won, you would have been issued a cash settlement of all costs involved. Why did you take another Verona after problems with the first one?
Let's move on.
I took another Verona b/c I like them and I assumed that the first one was a fluke, in other words I just got a bad one. But I had that option so I took it.
I just don't have that kind of time on my hands to make up stories. Some other may have that kind of time but not me.
