the looks of the elantra got a make over from the previous model, but the engine is still the same, so it is not a "1st year model."
everyone uses plastic on those foot rests, not just hyundai. what do you expect? the warranty should take car of it. My elantra is 10 months old with 16k miles, and the footrest is just as solid as the day i drove it home.
This is easily the most comfortable compact car we've ever owned(and we've had many in the last 37 years).
AND MY BATTERY COMPLETELY DIED!
Nothing was left on - lights - ac nothing - and it completely died. AAA said that is nuts and the dealer should replace it.
Any suggestions?
They are not sure what is wrong w/ the car. It isn't the battery. There is a voltage leak/drain somewhere. They are on day 2 now of not being able to find it.
fun times.
What more could I ask for? Sometimes a battery just croaks. Sort of like a hamster.

One of the service people came out and explained to me that I "had to have my clutch pedal completely pushed down to the floorboard when cranking the car over as it won't start if you don't."
It must've been dumb luck helping me to get the car started until I learned this. Once told that information it was easy starting it from then on. I remember it being kind of a left-leg workout for a few weeks until my leg was used to pushing the clutch pedal all the way to the floor when both starting the car and shifting it's gears.

So far everything else is going well after 18,000 miles. Switched to 100 percent synthetic motor oil and so far the engine is a bit quieter on startup in the colder weather so i highly recommend it.
The foot rest might ve been cracked before I bought it. However they damaged or loosened the hood release during the repair. Had to go back next week to deal with that. They must like me there.
What are your thoughts on the Elantra Touring 5-door coming out in a few month?
But maybe we should discuss this in the appropriate Elantra discussion vs. an issues discussion, since there are no issues yet on the Elantra Touring.

other issue..MOST CONCERN.. ON ICY OR SNOW COVER roads the elantra has a hard time stoping. the antilock kicks in really quick making harder to stop the car. the brake pedal presure feels like jelly.
any ideas?
tire replacement.. or CAR REPLACEMENT?
2) Learn how to drive a car with ABS. If the car has a hard time stopping with the ABS engaged, it probably means you are driving too fast for conditions. ABS won't help you stop all that much shorter, but it will help you maintain control of your car.
If the brake pedal really feels like jelly, you might want to have that checked by the dealer. I've driven several 2007-8 Elantras and none of them had brakes that felt like jelly.
I gues I'm guilty as charged. :P speedo
my milage has also been worst.. lately only drive about 1 mile both ways.. milage has been below 20..with long warm ups in the cold winter.
when I was driving city/expressway.. I was geting 30+.
If only I had gotten the se or limited model..
You are getting zero MPG when the car is running and not moving.
I'm in contact with Hyundai and filed a report.
The problem is that once the temperature is above freezing, the brakes function fine. Hyundai was the car brought to a dealer for inspection, but the problem only exists under wintery, cold conditions. Nothing can be found.
I've had the problem on 4 different days, using driving skills to avoid disaster.
I've never had a problem with Hyundai's, ABS Brakes, or tires.
The car brakes perfectly when it is clear weather or above freezing. Snow and ice and below freezing temperatures cause my problems. Why? I have no clue, since it has never happened with my other 5 Hyundai's.
I just got my 2007 ( 11k miles ) Elantra about 3 weeks ago.
Right on the first days we heard a weird noise on the back passanger side tire when braking slowly. Took to Hyundai, got fixed...
After a week or so I thought I heard a minor noise onje day, but it went away...
Nooow,
at my work, there's a driveway a bit inclined, and twice already when I put on park, take foot off brake the car JUMPS/ROLL back (like 2,3 little jumps/rolls). Mind you that my other car NEVER did that...so, I am a bit concerned....
Does anyone have ANY idea what it could be?!
If it happens 1 more time Im taking to the shop, AGAIN =(
Thank you for your advice in advance!!!!!! :confuse:
p.s.: the car is automatic transm.
problem was solved for a while..
that was 3 wks ago.. now car is pulling to left side again.
anuone else having this problem... why can't they make a car that steers straight?
