..... I really can't say how much more the ins co. might kick out .. let's hope it's a 4dr, but $5050 is a good price, considering these things have the resale value of turnips .. based on your description, miles, etc, it might see $2,500 on a trade/auction .. Hey, if you can get more, grab it.
1996 Acura Integra RS Coupe White, 5 speed manual, 112,000 miles, new Yokahama Tires, no extras (just the standard stereo / cassette, cold A/C, power windows) No dents or dings, no accidents. In good shape consistent with mileage. Tampa, FL
Easy boy......I was just helping the guy out, I agree with Isell, sometimes people don't think.
Visited a friend of mine today at a GMC/Buick/Pontiac/Kia/Mazda/Mercedes dealership, he said sales are WAY down, was dead almost all last month. So, of course he was hitting me up for leads.....ha, then I told him I didn't know anyone buying and we bought a truck 3 weeks ago.
Jeep Cherokee by seank2 Dec 01, 2003 (12:11 pm) Terry,
This is for a friend to be a private party sale, which is the only way he's going to get rid of it... 1993 Jeep Cherokee Country 2 wheel drive white over beige CLOTH 4.0 6 cyl, 5 spd HANDSHAKER the Country comes pretty well loaded, but it has AM/FM/cassette, A/C, no slider And for the kicker, for which you'll want to put your coffee down so as not to spit it all over the monitor... *****247,000 miles****** It does, for whatever its worth, have a rebuilt engine AND transmission and a recent (10,000 miles) clutch. No paintwork, tires are brand new, no french fry invasions**
*_______________
247,000 .. ??
aaahh, pick a number but don't let it exceed $500 ... wow, how about just a Christmas gift.?
we have two (2) '01 Suburbans.. one is a 4x4 LT... the other a Z71 .. both have 40K miles and coming off lease early next year..excellent shape.. mainly over the road driving with them as we travel a lot... live in NC 28467..
is it worth trying to buy them from Chevy... buy back on the LT is $24K.. Z71 is $22K .. I heard that Chevy now is letting the lessee make an offer and negotiate a deal within 6 months of end of lease but only before the lease ends.. when it ends they are firm at the buy-back contract price.. I guess they are inundated with lease-end vehicles trying to move them
any idea what they might be worth at auction right now..
"Visited a friend of mine today at a GMC/Buick/Pontiac/Kia/Mazda/Mercedes dealership"
That's quite the range!! I can imagine the possibilities: "If the S600 is a bit high priced for you Mr Customer, we have a nice Kia Rio sedan for you..."
There's a dealership near me in Southern New Hampshire that carries Mazda/GMC/VW/BMW out of the SAME BUILDING. Not only four brands, but four different companies. Pretty damn strange.
...of those in Cedar Rapids. Ford, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and BMW all in one. There's one in Iowa City that's Audi/VW/Nissan/Mercury/Mazda. I don't know if that's all that unusual.
When I worked at that dealer it was GMC/Buick/Pontiac/Kia, I hated it when the Kia dealership came in. I pretty much tried not to sell them, I think in the time I was there I sold a Sportage (against my better judgement, but my old history teacher insisted that's what he wanted) and a Sephia (the guy brought it back 4 days later and wanted his money back, uh, sorry).
About a year ago the Mazda/Mercedes/Suzuki dealer sold out to the GMC dealership. The Suzuki line was dropped because they put too many demands on it, it was picked up by another dealership. So, that's how the GMC/Buick/Pontiac/Kia/Mazda/Mercedes dealership came to be.
Its funny to walk in there and see a Mazda 3 parked next to a Mercedes C280 which is parked next to a Kia Rio.
....... I can understand his pain (and yours) .. plus, in about 2wks, you guys are going to have one of the largest Jag auctions in the country rolling through your state .. maybe 500/600+ 01/02/03/04's ... I guess that itty bitty kiss doesn't help things ......
..... Tampa eh', your down the street from my Dad in Ft. Myers ...
112k and counting .. handshaker, great color for the area, new Yoka's ~ well you should know the drill by now ... cooold breeze, service 100%, gotta look feel and drive like 50k, no kisses, no paint by numbers, no fade .. trade side, sounds like the $3's, "might" "maybe" could stroll towards $4,0 .... shove that dude down Retail Rd, super ad, great detail, "asking" $6,9 and cut that bad boy lose at the first $5,5/$6,5 .. keep the ego in the garage ...
Well if he had looked at the rear of the car the offer probably would have been less. He really didn't want to take the car in as trade. Well I guess I'm going to have to force myself to drive this old Jag another year
... I'll have to look at that brace of Audis (93 100 S; 96 A6 q) some time tomorrow with a buddy who's 93 Accord is giving him erratic ignition trouble. I had to open my big mouth and tell him about these fine automobiles.
Hey, his other car is an '84 911, so he'll be fine!
Anyway, before we go, I had a question that got lost in the shuffle: Both of these cars look very clean underneath, with undercoating that has at least been washed (good) and maybe reapplied (bad). And neither one of them has a single VIN sticker on any body panel. Not a one. Does that mean they've BOTH been repainted? It seems unlikely; and the '93 has light scratches across the steel sun roof, as if a box was put there and then dragged across... that doesn't look like a recent repaint to me. Fender bolts are fine, haven't been turned. So what's the deal, I thought cars HAD to have VIN stickers... no? Voluntary standard? It just struck me as odd that there are two cars like that side-by-side.
Whatever else may be wrong with them, Audi bodies and paint has been first-rate for decades, so if still looks great, that doesn't mean it's not original. Any guess as to what might be going on here?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I was walking around the *Import Center* yesterday. Sad to see those nice German cars lumped in with the likes of Kia.
Umm...it's Alaska. Isn't everything an import? Also, Jolie, you should sell the trucks and get a Caravan. Oh, no, not the Dodge variety; the other one.
LOL, thanks, very cute, yes I suppose everything could be considered an import. However, I still say a Mercedes sitting next to a Kia should be criminal!!
Oh and on the Caravan, um, nah, we do ok with what we have.
Got a call on the Chevy today.......speaking of selling trucks. Also talked to a mortgage broker, might be buying a house in the next few months. I already told hubby I'd sell the Explorer if it meant getting a house. (We live in a 27 year old mobile home in the middle of no where)
OK Terry-be honest but don't make it hurt too bad....
2001 Mercury Sable GS Sedan-white with gray interior, 76,000 miles (I can already see you frowning), no accidents, all service records since new, alloys, trunk cd changer, ABS, Side airbags, power driver seat, bucket seats. Good condition, non-smoker (owner). 2 very small door dings on passenger rear door, no other wear on exterior other than some minor road rash on the front from the highway. Never been damaged, original paint, clear title. Interior is very clean, no cuts, burns, or french fry invasions. Paint glossy. About 70% tread left on front tires, 50% on rear.
We buy lots of those cars at auction with that kind of high mileage and relatively average-poor looking condition.
Auction side $3500-$4500 depending on the specific condition of the car itself. Condition varies a lot on those. You will be looking at something in that range trade side.
Lots of those (not leather) at dealer retail for the low $7K's or slightly under. There are lots of people looking for good running, good looking cars in the $5-6K range, it might be an easy sell with all the maintenance records and a good touch up of the road rash.
You probably already know the 2003's at retail with under 20K are going for $12K at retail (lots of those and the twin Taurus available), the high quality Ford product depreciation going on here.
He's talking about trading the Ram again.....like he didn't learn a few months ago that its gonna take a backhoe to dig him out!!
2001 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab, long bed SLT, 4WD, Cummins, auto, power everything, am/fm/cd, red/gray cloth, 40k, needs tires, has some small dings and scratches. Interior is fair at best, still has blood on the headliner (not a whole lot, but its there) and he has his dogs in there a lot.
I'm thinking $21k on a stretch is what the thing is worth. I think he owes $25k+.
I kind of felt like I was in the ballpark. I was hoping for $5000-$5500.
Not a problem though, the car looks great appearance-wise and shows much better than the odometer indicates.
Resale on these cars is really bad though, and I knew that going in. I know the miles hurt me, but imagine what it would have been worth if it were a 2001 Accord LX with the same mileage!
Everyone's participation on this board is awesome.
We ran the miles up on it, and wife is looking for an excuse to get rid of it.
Seems to having an itch for a Honda Odyssey van (more room, sit up higher, easier to get the kids out of, etc.) Even at 4500 trade or so, the car is almost paid for, so not really a problem.
What would you put on a 02 Explorer XLT 51k, 3rd row, 6, 4x4, bad skates but a nice gut, cd, keyless, etc.....the hook is killing me and my deal. blue on silver/dark grey cloth, maybe 100 to the bumper guy......
Just a quick follow-up. I just traded the Mustang Convertible (V6 Auto) in that I had asked for an estimate. I think you said 8K if it had Zero problems. You were right on. I got 8.2K. Thanks for your help!
Daughter & son in law are getting two new vehicles and wish to sell private party their 1993 S-10 ext. cab,Auto,4wd,white,good tires and clean inside & out. Only 70,000 miles. Also has AC.
The other S-10 is a 2000 Blazer LT. Red, Auto, Power windows&doors,CD, 4wd good tires and clean inside & out. Has AC with 52,000 miles.
Location is S. WI. They have interested people who they already know, and are looking for a price fair to both parties.
Just wondering. I used the trade in calculator on this site to get a ballpark figure for my very high mileage car. I wanted to know what you thought of the estimates it provides. Thanks for your insight.
And the "books" and "calculators" tend to do a lousy job accounting for miles, both the very low and the very high. Depends on the car, though, a high-mileage Toyota is easier to sell than a Dodge; a truck with a Ford inline six or a GM 350 easier than a Dodge minivan. How about you tell us what you got, and someone here will tell you what they think it's worth.
For starters, forget the "excellent" or "good" condition column for any high miler. Mileage IS part of the condition of a car, a fact that isn't advertised but is still true. -Mathias
2000 VW New Beetle GLS 112,000 miles green with black cloth interior CD changer body has a few dents, but no major damage all maint. records no mechanical problems
I used the trade in calculator on edmunds.com, it deducted about $2200 for milage in addition to the condition deductions. I guess I am wondering if this calculator is even within the general range for this car. I am about to begin the negotiations for my new car and don't want to get my hopes up as far as the trade in value goes.
Terry's your man as far as value goes, but that's never stopped the rest of us from guessing... He'll need to know the location of the car, the engine and transmission. Taking a not-so-wild guess, we have the 2.0 liter engine and the automatic... no-sale green is not going to be a big help -- it's not one of those weird colors is it, just green? Who knows what that does with a bug anyway. Be glad for the 2.0; the 1.8T is a desirable engine to many, but the mileage would scare people *unless* you've got a great, documented service history. Still and all, it's a reasonably desirable car that's only 4 years old... VWs have their little electrical glitches and sometimes not-so-little mechanical problems, but they're built well and do last....
Due to the high mileage, this thing is going to be a candidate for wholesaling unless your dealer is really low on merchandise. And in any event, financing is going to be tough because of the mileage.. both factors don't help trade-in value and I'd suggest a quick private *cash* sale for an attractive price.
I think you'll get hit with offers in the mid-$3000 range; anything much over $4 would be an overallowance. Clean it up, put an ad on the company bulletin board and in the biggest local paper, good description, service records in a folder, ask $5,900 and take what you can get from someone who wasn't planning on buying a car this month -- $5 even strikes me as a good deal where I'd be tempted to buy, were I looking to buy one of these privately. With a car like that, it's all in how it "shows", the better it looks, feels, and smells, the quicker it'll sell -- and bring extra money.
But I've spoken out of turn, and mostly just for practice. Terry will advise, correct, and admonish, I trust.
......... It's a 00 with 112k .. yeeow.! .. no help there .l.o.l.
Mathias is pretty darn close, Big big big miles, hope it's an auto .. if it looks drives feels like 50k, deep sneakers, service is 110% .. "Might" see the high $3's, "maybe" $4ish .... not only does it have big miles, but it's in competition with just Kabillions of the super clean 25/30k 00 Bugs, and there only doing the $7's ..... send it down Retail Rd if you can.
..... It's an 01, it's a GS and we have 71k .. sounds like a Sable that will see around $4ish on a trade, it's just that the miles hurt it .. dealers are paying the low low $7's for the ones that have 20k ... maybe send it down Retail Rd for $5,900 ..
