Gee, Q, you should sort of recognize that zip, since you own property in the state.

@qbrozen can you give me rough shod on a 2021 Range Rover Sport HST? Black Metallic paint over black interior, 21” wheels, heated and cooled seats, and comfort pack. 44k miles. CPO. Philly metro (decidedly not for me).

A carton of Marlboros and your soul.

Could vary depending on which engine. I’ve got 4-cyl hybrid, 6-cyl hybrid, diesel, or v8 gasser. And did you mean HSE?

Oh, there is a 6-cyl hybrid trim called HST. If it is that, and clean (should be for CPO), then worth in that $43k-$44k number at the block. Figure… heck, I dunno, gotta be a pretty penny for the CPO warranty. Probably $50k??

What does Land Rover CPO cover?
Strange that 1 tire was replaced @40K unless the rest of them had recently had the same.

Interesting that autocheck shows no accidents. I’d want to know what, if any, paintwork was done. If you knock off 15% for the accident, you’re talking about $37.5k auction. I’m thinking $43k is enough, but, again, extent of previous damage is key here. No paint? Then I could see $2500 more. More than just a fender? I’d go lower still.

Thanks, @qbrozen. Sounds like it was just a bumper, but I’ll confirm. Either way $43ish plus his soul and sanity. I’ve already outlined I think this is a bad idea, but I’m not exactly a good person to be preaching on vehicle purchases anymore.

I agree even with all the engine problems Hyundai/Kia have had I’d still want either of those brands than living with a car that has a reputation of being a grenade with everything about them for who knows how long.

It takes a brave man to want one of those.

I'd pass unless there's a repair order for "replaced entire vehicle, swapped VIN plates to brand new hardware."
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,586
I just read that service record. took 10 minutes to get through it all. Good thing it was under warranty, since the cost on the repair was $52,750! That seems excessive since you can buy that engine in a new car for that much money, and get a free car with it.

Looked like that did a whole bunch of interim parts replacements on the bad engine before finally giving up. That was a waste of money.

also reported a 29,000 mile oil change interval, unless the owner had one done at a different dealer in the middle. Also seems to indicate that the absurd OCI recommendation of 15K is too long if chains are subject to stretching.

Wanting one is fine if it is his dream. But there must be other ones out there.

Though maybe it’s better to get the new engine already installed so he won’t have to worry about doing it himself. Maybe.

A good friend of my wife’s just traded her 2015 ish Tahoe for a Range Rover. Her statement blew my mind. “The Tahoe was becoming unreliable and I wanted something new and trouble free”.

FWIW the Tahoe was ridden hard and put away wet but still …..

I didn’t say a word, just congratulated her

Check back in 90 or 180 days and see what she has to say, then.

Can I please get a trade in value for 2020 Honda Pilot EXL AWD, Metallic Grey, 95K, 1 owner, pretty good condition inside and out, good tires and all the maintenance is up to date. Still has almost 3 years left on the extended warranty. Thinking about trading it in for a 2025 Pilot. We are in MN. Thank you in advance!

It will certainly come down to condition. $15k-$17k, depending. I wouldn’t be surprised if Carvana or carmax offered $19k, though. If going with another Pilot, maybe you can get the dealer to step up to 18 on it.

I took $28K from the dealership on the '21 X3 M40i with 71000 miles back at the end of May. Carvana made a nice $29K offer but the hassle of a dealership nearly 45 minutes away made me discount the trade, plus I misstated the mileage by 1,000 miles on Carvana which would have probably reduced my offer $200 or something, but the "risk" of the unknown made me choose the path of least resistance. Also, they came down more on the Macan which saves me more on taxes.

Congrats. Your time is definitely worth something. The tax benefit on a $28k trade would be massive for me. Way more than the $1k offer difference.

Even though my old Golf wasn't worth that much, the tax savings helped with my July purchase. Also getting to charge half of the price gave me some extra cash when I used my rewards. Every dollar adds up when all is said & done. Felt like we both got somewhat of a fair deal when all was said & done and it was a relief to finally have pulled the trigger after so long!

CA doesn't believe in any tax breaks. Pretty soon they'll be taxing taxes. Pretty sure they already do, and they just call them fees, surcharges, and penalties. For sure the traffic ticket fines are mostly fees to avoid a "cruel and unusual" punishment challenge in traffic court. They can claim the "punishment" is only the fine, which is a small % of the total charge.

I saw the very long list of fees outlining a very long list of items, probably should throw in a Nespresso machine fee in the judicial breakroom.
