What can I expect to receive when I trade in my 02 Escape XLT (4x2, leather, running boards, alloy wheels, power everything)? It's in excellent condition, but has 41k miles. I'm in the Northern KY/Cincinnati area. Thanks.
I was wondering if you could help us out a bit? We have a 2002 Subaru Forester (approx 20,000 miles, power windows/locks, automatic, CD player, AC, dark green exterior w/ beige fabric interior, excellent condition). We live in Biloxi/Gulfport in southern Mississippi. We are looking at trading it in, from what I have seen online--trade in varies from 14,100-16,000. What is your opinion?
Also, honestly, we want a car with a lower monthly payment. We still owe around $12,000 on this car--is it possible to trade it in for a car that retails for 12-14,500?? How does it work when you trade in a car you still owe on? Sorry for all the questions, we just have never done this before and don't want to get taken at the dealership! Thanks for any help!
Strangely enough, 2003s were all Centurys (Centuri, Centuries, whatever), but no, no Limited option, no leather. Base, base, base rental Buick.
" .. and you were doing so well.! "
Lurking for two years comes in handy every now and then ;-)
The main difference is the Maxima's interior is much nicer, but the Altima has a more modern (i.e. independent) suspension.
I have an 03 Maxima and love it, but if I were you I'd just drive both cars and pick, forget resale. In a few years they'll be about the same, anyway - the main difference in price you're seeing is the year, not the model. When I bought my Max back in March it was actually *cheaper* than the 3.5 Altima was due to the 04 Maxes being a total redesign and they wanted to dump the 03s.
Since I paid about $23,500 for mine, I'd say $21 and change is a bit high.
'99 Toyota Solara SE V6; 60,000 miles; Black/charcoal grey interior; 5 speed manual (I know, I know: kills the value); no moonroof; tires are pretty worn and probably need to be replaced. The interior is nearly perfect. The body has a few door dings and a few rock chips on the hood but otherwise is in very good condition.
Thanks.
So, you might wanna buy new based on that. Of course the new model might hold value better than the previous one, but who knows?
1995 Toyota Camry LE Sedan
78000 Miles
superwhite / grey cloth
2.2 Liter, 4 cylinder
4-speed automatic
Good-looking car but nothing extravagant, clean but the paint is getting a little chalky, no rust in evidence. One owner, knows how to treat a car (their other cars are a '96 Windstar with virtually no problems.... and a 1974 Mercedes SL280...)
What's it worth tradeside/on the street?

Aaaaaaand now this puppy, which friend of mine just bought.. without asking first, tsk tsk:
1997 528i

slider, premium package, no sports pack
(heated wheel and seats -- part of prem pack ?)
History is one lease, one buyer, traded at Lincoln dealer.... sold in sunny, 20-degree Detroit yesterday.
What be the numbers?

You need a Carrera -- ok, I'm with you -- because it has more SEATS?
It doesn't have rear seats. It has leather-covered skinny-briefcase receptacles.
So you get an A for rationalizing -- good on ya, mate!
Just make sure it won't kill you financially. Money doesn't bring happiness, but lack of money surely brings misery.
Even in Atlanta, you'll be better off trading/selling in the spring, I think.
Hey, a buddy of mine just bought -- with the CU's money, no less -- a 97 328i (details 3 posts above). His other car is an 84 911... he's pretty strung out... German autoworkers salute you.
I need an Audi...

We can begin with: were do you park this heap ..
and a full description of your g/f .l.o.l...
Terry ;-))
Just saw a barrage of these run .. I guess there is some folks that are in the same boat .. black is kinda tough in your area, But, will sell well from Jan/April .. Mathias is getting pretty good at this stuff, I agree, I would be waiting til' like late Jan, maybe late Feb depending on the weather ("maybe" firstish of March) .. converts are cold right now, even in the SE region you can buy them cheap with Christmas and all, then the 3/4 wk hangover of New Years ...
03, 3k, "in the wrapper" S ~ Glows in the dark. puuuuurfect ....? .. in and around $39ish on the trade side, maybe $45/$47 on the retail side .. I was at a HUGE Jag sale yesterday and I'm only paying $59ish for the 03 2/3k XJ8's converts ... just watch the weather, watch the paper and check ebay once in a while, remember there is only a 22.5% sale rate there, and you can always post back and get my stupid opinion ...
Keep me posted ...
Terry.
I know the 911 doesn't really have "back seats" but plain old simple, it has more interior room, but 1 less trunk!
Anyway, will keep you posted, thanks a ton for the disheartening truth Terry & Mathias.
ps - this is my first & last black car, only silver from here on out!
So if you can get me invoice and what the difference figure is going to be, than maybe I can map out where their trying to be .. right now, any good dealership is trying to get the big stuff of the lots .. they would rather have 30 $20,000 vehicles than 10 $60,000 vehicles .. you could make a good deal in this time of the "tumbleweeds" .. so let me know ..
Terry.
Terry.
$5,500 from a private ..?
You forgot to tell me were you live, so today you live in Richmond .. unless this dude is a repaint, looks like the "Good Humor" van, smacked whacked and cracked, then any dealer would give you the "double nickels" ..
If you have El Casho' and you need it, then grab it .. but if it's a nice one, even with 100k, it should float $6,9/$7ish on the Retail side, $5,500 is a wholesale figure ... but like I said, if ya need it grab it.!
Terry
Good description, thanks .. it's a 00 T6 and we have almost 70k with all the stuff .. if the it's a clean one, service is ALL there, looks and drives like 25k .. then trade side, in and around the $11's, "maybe" could crawl towards the $12 figure if it's Reeeal nice ...
Terry.
If it has new rubber, no kisses, no repaints, no I hid in a basement and got caught .. then trade side, in and around the $12/$12,5ish zipcode, the miles are not your friend here ..
Terry.
Terry, see what you think of this:
03 Maxima SE, slider, cloth, about 18K miles, dark gray, auto in Orlando, $21,1K ...
*** ~~ So in the land of the Mouse we have an 03 SE, we got slider, cloth, 18k, dark gray ... color isn't the best for FL, but still a nice color, miles are a little tall ... dealer probably paid the mid $17's for it, add a this and a that, probably hit's the table at $18,5, you should be able to buy this one for $20,0ish .. sounds like a rental, not a bad thing, just letting you know.
or....
02 Altima 3.5 SE, slider, cloth, 14K miles, auto, silver, also Orlando, $18,9K
*** ~~ .. miles are low, color is right, slider, probably paid $17ish for it .. this is the better buy for the $$ ..
On the resale side it's hard to say .. the Altimas have been doing pretty well ...
Let me know what happens ..
Terry.
They captured Saddam in a basement in the "mens room" with a few million American dollars .... Freedom.!
Terry :-))))
Friend of mine is considering trading/selling this:
1995 Toyota Camry LE Sedan
78000 Miles
superwhite / grey cloth
2.2 Liter, 4 cylinder
4-speed automatic
... ***~~ .. sounds like a $3,0ish driver on the trade side, miles are lowish for the year, color is good anywhere .. based on what your telling me, I could clean it up and run it down the street from you and get $3,5ish .. down Retail Rd, quick sale, make it purty make it nice, $4,9 asking and and $4,5 sends it down the road ...
-----
Aaaaaaand now this puppy, which friend of mine just bought.. without asking first, tsk tsk:
1997 528i ...... hmmm, your area, winter time, snow, tons of miles, it's a high $7, low low low low low low low low low $8ish vehicle trade side, maybe .. down Retail Rd, gheez Take anything over $9,0 .. Big miles just Flat kill these dudes ... ouch.

Friday ..? .. it's Sunday morning.! .. oh well.
Terry.
Your not hiding that information in your basement spider hole are you ....?
Terry
Miles are on the tall side, but nice dependable vehicles .. dealer probably has the mid $9's in it, depending on how long he's had it ... you should be able to snatch this one for the ultra high $10's, low low $11's ..
Terry.
Ouch on the bimmer. My buddy -- I'll call him Mr. Impulsive -- paid $11. There was a $13,995 sticker on the car, a $11,995 price on the web, so he offered them $11 and got the car. I don't think I'll bring up the subject.
Hey, it's okay, he didn't get it checked by a mechanic or anything, so he needs his good luck on the mechanicals of the car and can't afford to spend it on the price.
In my considered opinion, Bush is a weenie and Rumskopf is a jackass -- but no matter what, this is excellent news!! Very well done!!
Seriously, I thought you were making a christmas wish, then I thought waitaminute and checked the news... Yippee skippee summer camp!!!
May you have a very pleasant Sunday... and the other guy... not.
-Mathias
It does have 2 minor body blemishes. One is a about a 2 inch button type dent on the right front fender, the other is some deep scratches on the left rear wheel well. Other than that the paint/body is fine, no accidents.
I am in the Washington, D.C area.
Thanks.
-tom
I hope this dude isn't spinning any of those particles at your place .... "ooh, this one isn't glowing too much, I think I'll eat it" .. Scary.!
Terry ;-)
I wish I had better news, thats ok if you been watching Fox (or anybody else) then you probably have all the great news you can handle in one day ....
Terry.
But, check this out: Was on Enterprise website and they've got a '99 Max SE listed, red with gray cloth, handshaker, with 36K. Asking $12,9. Interesting ...
But anyway, 99 SE 36k short miles, I like em' in red, handhaker .. probably has the tall $9's in it, I got a feelin' this close to Xmas you might snag that one for "around" $11,5ish ..
Terry.
dark blue, 1 owner per carfax, LEASED for five years.
Air, cassette -- that's it. crank windows, no pwr locks, no cruise. At least these came with a split bench standard. It's at an Olds dealer and they got some whorehouse price on it, $8995 I think. I remember test-driving one back in summer of 1998, they were just under $17 brand new.
Will need tires soon, like before it snows.
I think I got everything.... lessee....oh! I know... it's got a stick shift.
How much for this dog?
tia -m

Dealer might have the high $5's, "could" have the low low low $6's in it .. $8,900 ..? .. with all the demand for this truck, you probably had to stand in line for hours to get a look at it ... zzzzzzzzzzz.
Terry ;-))
"[..] might save this thing is, if it's got a long bed"
No... it's a shortbed supercab. The 2nd one I've seen/seen advertised/heard about. Probably just about covers demand for the state of MI, too.
"1999 Ford Supercab XL V6 90k"
Pretty amazing vehicle, actually.
The shift lever is so long, if it comes off accidentally while driving, you'll be charged for carrying a deadly weapon in your vehicle.
Other than all that, Good Morning! and Thanks!
-Mathias
Anyway, I'm missing something here .. longbeds are worth a bunch more $$ than reg beds, meaning that *IF it had a long bed it would be worth more $$ ... Sooo, do I need to see my Psychiatrist or my Vet today ..?
Terry
See both.
And tell me what this darned xcab shortbed is worth!
Pretty please. With sugar on top. -m
Duuuuh...! .. wait a minute now, this isn't one of those "who's on first" deals is it ..? .. did you get some of those particles in your eyes ..?
Ok, let see if you get this one ... the dealer Might have the tall $5's, loooooooooow $6's in it ... these ain't no beauty queens and their hard to sell ~ retail/wholesale it makes no difference ..
XL Supercabs with no Long bed, no V8, no 4x4, no A u t o m a t i c, crankers and huge miles are like trying to sell Hillary Clintons book, unless your buying them yourself, they ain't moving ... being the tumbleweed times you should be able to purchase this loser for the high $6's, low low low low low low $7's ... Mach Snell, Auchtung, sprecan is duetsh.??
$8,900 ... ? .. great price if your Saddam and you need a quick ride out of town ..

You don't have to apologize to me .. between my Indian blanket making courses, the cable knit by number classes and after the first of the year, my paper mache' lessons, sometimes I just get a little tied up ... so if you have posted and I just stroll by ~ then just repost ......
Ok big daddy .. we have a 99 Toyota Solara SE V6, 60,000 miles, Black/charcoal grey interior; 5 speed manual (I know, I know: kills the value); no moonroof; tires are pretty worn and probably need to be replaced. The interior is nearly perfect. The body has a few door dings and a few rock chips on the hood but otherwise is in very good condition ..... Good description, thanks.
By the way, who ordered this stud ~ the Marquee De' Sade .?
No slider, handshaker, cloth, oh well, needs a little work and the miles are almost kinda ok .. trade side, in and around the high $5's, low $6's .. color might hold this one back depending on where you park this stud.
Let me know what goes on with this one ...
Terry.
sorry,
Terry.
If it's clean, deep rubber, no kisses, no I tore up my seats with my Swiss Army knife .. depending on the dealer, trade side, in and around that $14ish figure, "might" "could" see a little more if it's a Real nice one .. these are kinda rare and more "bang" for the buck than the Escape ...
Let us know ...
Terry.
Audi.
93 100S 114k V6 fwd auto gray met. over light gray cloth, nice car, nothing special, Terry hit it at $1,500-$2,200 wholesale.
Drove the silly thing today. The engine wasn't quite as smooth as I thought it should be, a little shake at low rpm. Drove it over hill and dale for 1/2 an hour, put in 5gals of gas -- how's that for a considerate shopper -- and brought it back. Nice car, the engine was much smoother, tranny is fine, all the electrical stuff is working... hmmm. $4 in the window, the "sales manager", who is the owner's son and the only employee besides the secretary, confided that he'd let it go for "low $3s". "I've got too much in it; for you I'd wholesale it; ya know, because you know these cars.. anyone else, I'd ask more money."
Well, that's nice of him, but I hadn't made up my mind yet. And then I rummaged around the glove box, found a coupla tire receipts with a name, and had a nice chat with the previous owner. A very nice lady, librarian here in town.
When was the last time you heard a librarian use the word "Techron"? Ya gotta be impressed.
[You guys actually read all these long, drawn-out narratives? I've got a little time right now, but still...]
Where was I... oh yeah, she needed to do a bunch of long trips, didn't want to be in a 10-year-old car; bought a lightly used A6 Avant (ok) and traded this one in. She kinda misses it; it was so quiet on the road (check), and she never really had a problem with it, except with the AC at first, but fixed under warranty. No, nothing wrong with the car. The timing belt? Let me ask my husband... didn't we have that done a year ago...right, and the water pump, too, while we were at it.
[Here I think I've died and gone to heaven. This is $800 or so on these puppies].
No, no accidents; got rear-ended in Canada, but just a little; got a new bumper, that was it.
Yeah, all the work done at the dealer, except oil changes... and we gave them all the receipts when we traded the car in [be still my heart].
Of course the dealer threw them out, oh well.
All the electrics work on the car, including the bun warmers. Slider, windows, locks, mirrors, the works. NO climate control -- that's refreshing, esp. in an Audi. It runs great; I hit 100mph before I knew it. Solid car, overall. And the ABS works just fine, too.
Anyway, thanks for listening. I think I've found my winter beater. I'll stuff a few $100s in my back pocket and have me a little sit-down with my buddy Jeff at the car lot. We'll start low and see where we wind up.
