105,000 miles, silver, air, auto, slider, leather, cd, spoiler, heated mirrors, tires good, condition of car- interior very good, exterior average for year and miles. Front end damage considerable repaired at a Subaru dealership a number of years ago. Not a salvage title.
Car is in Portland, Oregon. Thanks for your help.
1.) Say yes.
2.) Get money.
3.) Give title to neighbor.
4.) Maybe give neighbor a kiss.
5.) Go to Chevy store and buy new car.
Santa came early ...

You know the gig by now, no it got dropped off the San Fran bridge stuff, no terrorist activity in the interior .. trade side, in and around that $3,5ish figure, could "might" see $4,0 at a SCal auction .. down to the lovely land of Retailville, $6,900 "asking" (after a super detail and anything needed) and I would set it free at the first $5,5/$6,5 .....
Good luck and let me know ...
Terry.
Thanks for your help.
Plus, with the light on, there is the connotation that the car is beat up/not maintained properly, and that you don't care enough to fix it, or want to dump a dog.
Look at it from the other side. If it was for sale, and the dealer told you "oh, it's nothing", would you buy it at normal retail?

There was a 98 outback here in town, got traded in at the local Subaru dealer...5sp, decent shape, nothing special, no-sale blue, 135k miles.
None of that fancy leather stuff.
Anyway, I figured $2+ wholesale (WRONG), see if the used car manager wants to cut me a deal. NOT interested. He told me flat-out he'd put it on his own lot with an $8 sticker on it. Instead, he of course wholesaled it to a lot down the street... where they put $6,9 and later $6 on it and sold it for god-knows-what-price 3 months later.
I checked it out at some point and found the oil dirty and the dipstick gunked up, so no thanks.
Point is, Subaru buyers don't fear high miles nearly as much as the people who buy domestics; Subes are easy to retail yourself; the Honda boys are trying to pull one over on you -- or they don't know what they're doing -- or your car's condition really isn't very good.
I'm thinking buy the new car, clean up the old, fix anything that wants fixing, do all required service, and write a good ad for $4,9 and take $4++ before the following weekend is up. If it were a 5speed, I'd ask you how close to MI you are...

Any comments will be appreciated on this car.
The car itself runs good - could use a tune-up and oil change. It has 107,000 miles and new tires. The exterior is okay, EXCEPT, the front bumper and passenger fender have been replaced due to a deer collision, and are primer black (the car is maroon). The interior has some problems, too. There is not CD player/radio due to an idiot ex-boyfriend hitting it with his fist and there's a great big cigarette burn on the driver's seat.
My question....should I go ahead and fix this stuff BEFORE I trade it in or will it really make a difference to the dealer?
Please answer quickly - I might try to trade it in the week after Christmas which is supposed ti be a really good time to buy a car.
Thanks in advance! Albany, Ohio

Where's the good news ...?
I dunno .. its gotta be repainted, the interior sounds like a spider hole and it's got tons of miles ... your kinda in a Catch 22 here, if you spend the $500/$700 it still has the 100k and it's not really a dealer retail vehicle, it doesn't sound nice at ALL ... I'm thinkin' here, bite the bullet, and when you get a new vehicle get a new boyfriend ... maybe the $4's on the trade side, maybe ..

2wd (not a big deal here in Phoenix)
23xxx miles
Automatic
Silver metallic
Aftermarket leather
PW, PL, CC, CD/Cassette combo
Alloys
Roof rack, Hard spare tire cover, Spoiler, Fogs
"L" package (nicer trim, includes most of above)
Plenty of life in tires
Better than good condition, though not excellent
No moonroof, no ABS
Into it for about 10,900 at this point, wanted to get your input on taking it down retail road. Happy holidays and thanks for your help, have always enjoyed your insights on the "Inconsiderate" threads.
mileage=53 to 60k
Thanks
Check engine lights are common, just let the battery go dead on any Ford product, Jag, Land Rover, Mazda etc .. so the other side is to check around, og sensors can go bad on ANY vehicle, I have a funny feeling that if the dealer wants $198 (1-1/2 labor) $120=$320, that you can find a competent repair shop that can do it for half that price ...
I guess the point is, get her fixed, most dealers including myself hate buying projects even if they are small ones ...
Terry.
The miles are low for the year, if it's clean, deep rubber, no paint by numbers, ya know lookin' 00ish .. then trade side, in and around the $2,5ish range, if it needs stuff and it doesn't look purty anymore, probably about half that ...
You thought I forgot you, didn't you ...?
Terry ;-))
Terry.
I don't have much of a description, but I'm thinking in and around the $2,5/$3ish figure ... this is a Great vehicle for Retail Rd, get a super detail, get all the service records, put in a Great 10/14 day Ad (your selling a 9 year old vehicle, not the Taj Mahal but it has to "BE" the Taj Mahal) .. but if it's a nice one, "asking" $4,900 and say "Hasta la Vista Baby" at the first $3,9/$4,5 C.I.F. (Cash In Fist) ..
Terry.
But anyway, the best place for the Best response is the Biggest newspaper in your area .. a great ad can do wonders, 4/5 liner, very graphic and don't price the thing too high .. it's easier to negotiate from $5,900 to $5,5 or $5,0 than if you have that Breezemobile in the paper for $6,9, most folks that read it, get turned off, most folks can negotiate like Saddam with a dealer, but put them in a private driveway and they go limp .....
Terry.
It's a 99 GL, couple of kisses here and there, miles are sorta kinda super tall, but you left coasters will drive 75 miles to get a Kool-Aid .. probably lookin' at that $2,5/$3,0 figure depending on the dealer, Ya never know .... IF it's a nice one, then it's a good little vehicle for the placid land of Retailville, super clean, finish any service, great ad, $4,9 "asking" and give them a little eggnog and say goodbye at $3,5/$4,5 ...
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
I tried tracking your vehicle on my GPS, but I spilled coffee on it this morning so I don't have a location .. but if your ANYWHERE north of the Mason/Dixon line, it would do an easy $3,5 in the land of the auctioneer ..
Not picking on Isell, but Honda dealers kinda live in their own little world ~ "Hey I need a big 4dr for my family of 6" ~ Got one, try the Accord .. "Hey I need a big SUV to carry my 125lb Rotty's" ~ Got one, try the Pilot ... well you get the picture, you need to shop around and get some other figures ......
Terry.
(he said sheepishly), oh.. THAT Audi....
What happened is that I had a heart-to-heart with my trusted mechanic. And after he threw out some generic parts prices (hi-pressure p/steering hose $520) and some choice remarks about the longevity of Audis in general, the world seemed like a cold and lonely place.
But thanks for asking :-)
I kinda was hoping you had forgotten.
I know, Fat Chance.
BTW, that 95 Camry LE 78k you hit at $3; I had a closer look at it and will have to "deduct for condition" a touch. MI is not gentle on older cars. That will make someone a nice winter beater, though... Even very tiny rust spots look BAD on a white car..
-Mathias
Thinking about replacing the Accord real soon...it's sitting in the garage with a bum starter, I replaced the radiator last week and it's got a laundry list of repairs I need to do (brakes, tires, etc.)
Terry.
Ya know, talk about a small world .. "I think" I mighta ran into these guys about a couple of weeks or so ago(?) .. don't remember their names, but I remember the Iowa part, father and son team, they were buying Subu's and Burbs and I was buying Land Rovers and Jags ...
Anyway, 02 Outback wagons with 10/15kish are doing around that $15/$16 range in the land of the gavel ...

I would greatly appreciate if somebody gave me a ballpark figure I can expect for this trade-in:
2000 Infiniti G20 Touring
black/black leather
25,500 miles
auto, power everything, premium wheels, spoiler.
The car is in excellent condition (wife's car) with only minor stone chips on the hood. No major repairs, tires are almost new, battery was just replaced, no body work, no accidents.
I am going to the dealership today or tomorrow, and I am in Southern California.
Thanks !
Ugly purple color?? hmmmm, its not the color that's the problem right now, its the shorted out driver's side lowbeam. Going to tear into it today, found instructions on the net about how to fix it. Might as well try to save myself $300.
I drove that 99 Ram of hubby's for the first time last night, scared the pants off of me too, won't do that again. What a monster that thing is.
humph, ugly purple color.......its pretty!!
What do you peg this at these days:
1999 Nissan Quest SE.
Pretty loaded (CD changer, power package, alloys)
Also has a glass slider.
Silver, grey cloth.
Normal condition for the year (never any body/paint work, but a few small nicks).
Sneaker and brakes replaced not too long ago. Mechanically, needs nothing (just a detail), interior good.
44,000 clicks, in Southern NJ (phila. burbs)
What does the oracle say on trade, and what to price at on retail road?
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
I believe the answer is yes on both counts.
My wife totalled our Honda Thursday night, so we are now looking for a new car. We had a 2000 Accord SE sedan with 53K miles. It was ruby red w/ Auto, 4 cyl, ABS alloys, etc. We live in the lower Hudson Valley, NY. I don't know what the ins payoff will be, but we should know Mon or Tues.
She swerved to avoid a deer and wedged the car into a ditch between the guard rail and the trees.
Luckilly, she walked away with nothing more than a couple of bruises, thank God.
Anyway, we are looking at purchasing either a 2002 or 2003 Acura 3.2 TL. What is a good price for one of these with avg miles for the year? We are looking at either black, gray, silver or white. How much extra would a Type S cost over a base TL? And does the NAV system add anything to the price?
Many, many thanks in advance.
We also have a close friend that might be selling one of his cars and I might be the buyer. Right now I'm only Christmas day dreaming, but it's a beauty and I remember when he bought it new in 98, it's a 99 Acura NSX with 19,200 miles and it's like the day he bought it. It's silver metal with the grey/black interior, automatic, the top that comes off, I guess every option, they had 2?
I'm kind of semi serious about it, he has kept it in the garage the whole time, never seen close to a winter or rain, every service record, original tires and they seem good for another 7/10k, or so I'm told, it's like brand new. I know it's a lot of money and it's a weekend car, kind of. But give me the good and all of the bad, he has some financial problems and I feel we, hubby and I, can buy it for $49,900.
Dreaming at Christmas!
As always, thank you very much and the very best to you and your family.
M.
BUT, how bout a number for a '98 Saturn SW1 wagon with a handshaker and 68K miles. power windows and doors and nothing much else. No-sale green and a couple of minor scratches. Probably only ankle deep in rubber rather than knee deep. Here in the northeast.
thanks, Terry.

What can I expect to get for this vehicle in a private party sale.
98 Grand Caravan ES, white pearl with gold trim, loaded, leather, PW, PDL, AM/FM/Cass/CD, tow pkg, auto leveling, traction control, roof rack, 2nd row bucket seats, clean with normal wear, 131k mi, 10k mi on tires, one owner, new head gaskets, everything works good, Orange County CA,

Thanks for your advice, as always....
Here's my educated guess: You shouldn't pay over $4 for it on the street, but you won't pay a lot less... If it's a nice one, I'd shoot for $3,5 or 6 or so... Have you seen the JUNK people are asking $3k for???
Trade-in -- 5speeds can be a dog to sell, so probably $2-2,5 depending on condition... and the dealer. $1,500 at isell's store :-)
Terry will give me a wedgie for speaking out of turn if I'm wrong.
-Mathias
If so, depending on the dealer then it's probably worth in and around the $15/$20ish figure on a trade .. If not, (and it's nice and clean) then you should be seeing around the $33ish arena ...
What kind of figures are you seeing ..?
Terry.
Trade side, in and around the low $8's, could "maybe" get a little closer to that $9 figure depending on the dealer and what Santa is bringing his 3rd wife ....... ;-)
Terry.
I would probably have taken 9k if they had offered that up, but we may get back to try again before the EOY.
There were quite a few MDXs on the lot, so maybe they will want to make one of those "end of year, it's your lucky day trying to hit a volume bonus deals".

Too bad Audi wasn't the GSM last saturday, since he was blowing something out to make a bonus.

I don't think so. The car was bought by a US importer directly from a Canadian dealership. So, it was delivered in Canada, then immediately trucked across into the US. All appropriate import paperwork was done, taxes paid, etc. and a US instrument cluster was swapped in. So, although I'm no expert... doesn't sound "gray-market". MB has fully honored warranty, etc.
I'm seeing 33,5-35 but it seems low. I don't quite understand why Canadian import should knock 3,0 off the wholesale... What would a US equivalent go for? My research shows about 37-38. Am I off base?
'94 Volvo 960. Dark blue/green over gray leather, good tires, 118,xxx miles, slider, no CD changer, and no cold weather pack. Really clean, in stand-up condition. Unknown whether the dealer has books/records. It's at the local Chevy joint, looking forlorn among the ex-rental Malibus. I may have to tell Mrs. Lance that it followed me home, and can I keep it? :-)
