My May issue of Auto World magazine arrived today and claims there test run of the G35 is 6.8 seconds. I guess this is inline with Infiniti predictions.

Who made those 18" wheels? I wish they offered an 18" version of the 5 spoke sport wheel. I would get one in heartbeat.

The upcoming M is going to be debuted the 29th, eh? Man, and I've got at least a three month wait, now, on a purchase...and I was leaning towards the Q, 'cause it was just a bit 'more'. The M might be near-perfect...I don't want/need that. I thought the G was it.

If it comes with some minor additions the G doesn't have, like mirror memory, a more logical manual shifting mode, and maybe a couple of other things, and is near the $40K mark...argh...it might just 'get to me'.

Good, more than 50% battery life left, time to go look at infiniti.com.

    Gab,

yes, the aux lights do a great job and do add significantly to the overall amount of illumination you get out in front of you :)

I was poking around under the hood behind the headlights and I noticed a small access opening into the space directly behind the back of the headlight... thru it you could see a white plastic sprocket gear of some sort with slit teeth... It definitely looked as though it was related somehow to some adjustment of the Xenons, but I didn't fiddle with it. Just to see if it was some sort of automated levelling mechanism, I started the car, turned on the headlights and while looking at the gear carefully I bounced the front end of the car a little... The gear didn't move at all. If it is some auto levelling device it might take more than just bouncing the front a few degrees to make it function.

In the meantime I am going to assume that it is the adjustment for the aiming of the Xenon's and that it requires a special service tool to adjust. If it doesn't require the special tool, then they sure made it inconvenient to turn the gear :)

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on what the thing might do?

    Thanks!

Those wheels are made by RL? The letter R is red.
  • g35manng35mann Member Posts: 37
Those certainly *sound* like adjusting bolts for the headlights, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were Torx, or some other oddball kind of 'pattern'.

The G doesn't have auto-leveling headlights, at least that's what I've heard, and what you've described sure does sound like what's under the hood of my Zuk (that's Suzuki to those not in the know). I also wouldn't be surprised if the housings are basically the same for the standard and xenon beams, and I'd bet the standard ones have generic adjustment screws like that. See if you can see one for up/down and another for left/right.

From what I understand, the M-45 is to go against the Lexus GS-430. If you are familiar with the Lexus, you can imagine the M-45!!! I think this is the one I have been waiting for! I have the Infiniti I-30 and watched the I-35 and G-35 excitment. Now, it's my turn again. (At least I hope that is what the announcment is on the 29th.)

I bought a (Brilliant, ooohhhh) Silver w/ Graphite leather interior today. Got a good deal on my trade in and $500 off MSRP. I absolutely love this car! If anybody sees a silver G35 w/ a Baylor University license plate holder driving around Dallas... that's me. Honk and say 'Hi'... if you can catch me!

    That's it?

Thought it would be faster than that. I was hoping low sixes or high fives even.

You can see .5 either way based upon altitude, ambient temp, variations between engine/cars, road surface, even drivers. The manual should be in the very low sixes and maybe the high 5ves if they do the right thing and give you a limited slip option and some better tires. A 1/2 of a second may be more measurable than perceptible from the seat of the pants.
  • stanny1stanny1 Member Posts: 962
That must be with the boat trailer. Thr G has to be faster than the 330i Manual at 6.4 seconds. Just look at the hp/weight ratio. The G Manual should be sub 6 seconds.

Like many on this board, I drove the G35, hoping to fall in love and buy it that day but it just did not click with me. Too much road noise and too many silly features like the willow leather and the thong holder. I want to love this car but I just can't. FYI, in VA the going price is $500 under MSRP and dropping!

I was just curious. After my last post, I remember something my sister told me about Canada. Are there really only 2 seasons? "Winter" and "Construction" ?? Just kidding, but maybe you can answer how the climate control system works with the settings that are saved each time you get in the car.

My Z has all the controls at my finger tips for everything except the steering wheel. At first, I used to think it was odd to have those side extensions up around the wheel, but now I only have to move my hand to the stereo... unless I'm busy shifting... in which case, I can usually hit the stereo with a finger tip while keeping my hand on the shifter.

Oh well, at least you're enjoying your G. The more I think about it, I've pysched myself out of the VPP deal so far that I'd rather buy an RX-8. I guess Nissan/Infiniti has succeeded in keeping the price artifically high so far as I've given up on them and am considering other cars again even though I have an undelivered pre-order yet to come in. I was looking today, and the biggest thing I could come up with as actually "wrong" with my 6 year old Z was that I haven't rotated the tires in 6 months. I'm actually amazed at the people on here who've been recommending Grubbs Infiniti in Hurst -- they told me they wouldn't even consider my car if I wanted to trade it in, and then they lied that Nissan wasn't offering the VPP for the G35. You couldn't pay me to deal with "Danny" or anyone there. Well, you probably could pay me, but I was really just looking for the fair deal offered by Nissan Corp which they lied about. I guess I should not be surprised, aren't "grubbs" the slimy worms that turn into flies?

for those who've complained about the range on the HID lights, up to what speed (at night) do you think they provide adequate illumination? I can overdrive my Z's headlights (thanks to the low nose) at about 65 mph. Meaning, at 65mph, if something shows up in the headlights, I don't have time to stop in time to avoid hitting it. Do you really think the G35 has a similar problem? With the high-mounted standard headlight (non-high beam) that I saw, I'd doubt it has the same kind of problem as my Z. Do you just not feel comfortable with it, or do you really "over-drive" the headlights? Anyone in Dallas who's worried about the HID lights ought to drive with me some evening to see what they think.

I swear... I rode with my boss again at lunch today. He has the TL-S. I'm really beginning to envy the dual exhaust and side mirrors that tilt down while in reverse. The G35 I pre-ordered doesn't have those options, and at MSRP it's $3k more expensive. My current '96 Z has the heated exterior mirrors which were nice for days like today where it was 30 degrees F (-1 C for the Canadians) this morning and a little frost on my car. Again, something to give up with the G35, because I really don't need the full cold weather package in Dallas, but some features are nice. At least, I wouldn't give up the higher rated tires for summer for the 3 months of cold weather, but some of the cold weather features are still applicable. The packaging of the G35 just seems odd to me. I don't want the homelink thing in the Premium package since I live in an apartment, but there are things I want that I can't get without it. Again, more reasons to wait, and consider the RX-8. :)

Doesn't the engine in the G35 have to be broken in before anyone can fully benefit the power of the G? Since the G35 was only introduce last week, I'm not sure if the person who performed the 0-60 test gave the engine the break in.

It's like asking me to sprint the 100m track without adequate stretching and warmups.

    Just my thoughts.
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
Though we won't know the standard deviation nor whether their test procedures are conservative or liberal.

Since the I35 automatic is doing 0-60 mph in about 7.0 seconds, 6.8 seems quite reasonable. And since the Altima 3.5SE manual has been reported mostly around 6.25 seconds. That, too, makes 6.8 seem reasonable.

.. who have decided they don't want a G35 keep hanging around here complaining about what it does not have.

Go buy your TL-S or RX-8 or BMW or whatever makes you happy. Comments/complaints from those who have actually purchased and are driving the vehicle ring a lot truer with me. Sure there are things I would like my G35 to have that it does not but I evaluated it and found I would rather focus on what it DOES have than gripe about what it does NOT have.

Many people seem to like to point out the negatives and if we went to other forums in a few months (like the RX-8) we would probably find them poo-pooing those vehicles there also. There is NO PERFECT VEHICLE so get over it. If you find the G35 does not match your needs, so be it. Go in peace, but please just go.

Remember, the Acura is FWD. And I doubt that it has TRUE dual exhausts. That's uncommon with transverse FWD engines. It probably LOOKS like dual exhausts. Just wait. Borla will come out with real duals for the G35. Real easy with a RWD V-6. Probably a lot less restrictive than the cramped stock "aerodynamic, low drag" system and it will sound a whole lot better. That's the first change I will make. Second is to get that heavy battery into the trunk where it should be.
  • stsurbrookstsurbrook Member Posts: 285
Hmmm, that seems much slower than my seat of the pants experience. Drove a base leather, STS, Aero today and had some fun. :)

In my parking lot test, I was working the tires so hard that I could smell them. Man, does this car handle well. SO well behaved. However, the tires are definitely the weak link, not the car.

I tried some acceleration "tests" while I was out and found a couple things and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. When I would punch it, off the line, it would start, but not THAT quick until it hit ~3500-4000rpm and it was like a turbo kicking in. Amazing. Of course, it could have been an issue of the automatic not dropping fully down to 1st.

In Manumatic, I tried the same after forcing it to read at 1st. FAST off the line, same "kick", and only needed one shift (to 2nd) to get to 60mph. SWEAR it had to be ~6sec flat. Did my shifts to 2nd at about 5800rpm.

Anyway, point is, I have trouble with the 6.8 second number. The Acura TL-S is as fast or faster than that and the Infiniti feels faster. Not only than the Infiniti is ~150lbs lighter and has almost 30ft-lb more torque. Go figure.

Then again, the main attraction to me is the handling... and can this car handle. (Just as an aside, "my" salesman just got back from a Dallas two-day track training session on the G35. When asked if they pushed it harder than we did on our test drive he said, "No, but we did it for longer... about 100 miles a day." Yee-haw! Sounds like fun! :)

There is no car in the world that has every feature that every forum surfer would want in a car. A couple of posts have mentioned the lack of a tilting passenger rear view mirror, when the car is put into reverse. I had this feature on my BMW, and came to hate it. Because when backing up, all you could see was the curb. About half the time I ended up having to manually override it to see the normal view, e.g. backing into my garage. So with the G35, if I want to see the curb, I manually adjust the mirror; no big deal, for me.
I suspect some posters who feel this is an omission, have perhaps never actually had it on a car, but condemn the G35 for not having it anyway.
Some features i am missing from my BMW are the remote key activating the seats and mirrors, the memory setting controlling the seats and mirrors, park distance control, sport mode transmission, and free 4 year scheduled maintenance. I still bought a G35, even with all of these deficiencies because I felt they weren't worth the $15-$25K Cdn surcharge for a BMW similarly equipped. I am happy that some of you can buy whatever you want, but for me, at present, value for money was more important than features over value.
The DVD navigation on the G35 works better than the BMW, the G35 has an auto headlight feature that the BMW didn't have, etc.
To each his/her own. Lets not condemn each other, or the car, because they don't fit our personnal preferences or biases.

I keep hearing about the splash guards not fitting? Is this true? I have not seen any G35s with splash guards yet? Have any of you seen one with them? I'd like to see how they look. Buying a car around here without splash guards is near impossible, there's dirt and gravel everywhere!

    Thanks in advance

I am not sure why some people are bothered about others posting comparisons of other cars to the G35 (ie. BMW, Audi, TL-S, RX8, etc.). Seems to me that Infiniti has launched a capable vehicle and many who are interested in looking at the sport sedan segment should be allowed to post their opinions. Besides, this is a brand new car and many are excited about a new Japanese competitor to this segment (including myself).

The numerous BMW comparisons are completely justified since the 3-series has been the top all around performer in the sport sedan segment for quite some time. G35 owners should consider it a compliment that Infiniti finally plays in this space and does extremely well with the new G.

Besides, this is not the G35 owners forum......

There is no question in my mind that this car, in the hands of test staffers at MT, C&D, and R&T will return 6.2-6.4. Remember, MT said that their estimate of 6.5 "might even be conservative".
  • jmessjmess Member Posts: 677
So much time is spent on such a minor aspect of what makes a good car. A Mustang GT will handily smack down a G35 along with the 1000s of WRXs you see everyday.

According to BMW's own published figure, 0-60 is 7.0 seconds for the 330 with automatic transmission.

I arrived at Burbank at 10:45AM this morning. Thousand Oaks Infiniti Internet Sales Manager picked me up at 11:00AM. 20 mile drive to the dealership, paperwork, yada yada yada, and I hit the road at 1:30PM. Beat feet through L.A. to avoid all the commute traffic and headed due north on Interstate 5. Here are my observations:

Cloth Interior: Very good quality cloth, some type of suede material on the bolsters, batting (I think that's what they call the little doo hickey on the seams) is an off gray color. Not crazy about the batting but I noticed a Mercedes E320 with the same set up on their leather. Seat bottom adjusts with knobs both front and back. Seat back adjust incrimentally with a lever. Same type of lumbar adjustment as the leather. Willow color could be a pain but non issue for me (no kids, no pets). No sore back after the 7 hour seat time. A little butt discomfort, but that always happens to me on that trip.

16" wheels: VERY attractive 5 spoke alloys. Bridgestone Turanza tires. MUCH more quieter and smoother than the 17" tires. Turanzas are more of a grand touring tire vs performance.

Silver paint with willow go good together for my taste.

    High-lites of the trip:

High wind advisories all the way up Interstate 5. Got tossed around a little bit in my lane, but then so was everyone else. I'm sure the lower profile 17" tires would have done better.

Rain: Encountered moderate rain. Windshield wipers work great. Both rain and windshield wiper fluid go up and over the roof, nothing on the side windows.

IMPOSSIBLE to drive slow. I didn't do any dramatic accelerating or braking but just had to find out if I could work up to 100 MPH going UPHILL on the grapevine. Car didn't even break a sweat!

Maunal shifting: Works great to adjust speed for traffic flow fluxuations. Very seldom did I have to brake to adjust my safety zone.

Idiot Encounter: Met a boy racer in a Mercedes C320 (model I almost bought after selling my SLK230) who wanted to race. I just let him weave through traffic ahead of me thinking "That idiot has no idea that I am breaking in this car, that I have 35 more ponies, and I paid $15,000.00 less for my car than he did".

Dealerhip experience: Dennis made a mistake and quoted me a price much less than his boss was looking for considering there is way less profit in the base vs leather. He stuck to his word 100%, absolutely no surprises when I got there. Even the finance lady was scratching her head wondering what happened. Long and short of it, Dennis Obrien at Thousand Oaks Infiniti will treat you very very well if you throw him your business.

Overall impression of the car: OUTSTANDING value, even my spartan cloth is upscale, car feels like it's forged out of one piece of metal, no rattles, squeaks, quirks. Much more harder edged personality than my Solara. Definately an enthusiasts car.
  • th83th83 Member Posts: 164
I agree that it probably wasn't a broken-in test car. If the TL-S can do it in 6.2, the G35 should be able to match or beat it considering the G has 28 more ft.lbs. of torque.
  • keyrowkeyrow Member Posts: 214
What did you think of the knobs to adjust the seat. Where they difficult to rotate? Gain access to? I have had them in the past and not found them very convenient when there are two drivers changing the adjustment every couple of days. I guess what I really want to know is if you think one can live with them or is the power seat worth the extra $$?
  • riezriez Member Posts: 2,361
norcalmike2... What was your achieved MPG on the trip? What RPMs were you turning over at say 65 mph, 70 mph, 75 mph? 100 mph?
  • corkfishcorkfish Member Posts: 537
Nissan automatics have always handicapped the potential of their engines. The Altima with an automatic does 0 to 60 in 7.3 seconds according to Car and Driver. Motorweek got it to do 60 in 5.9 seconds with the 5 speed. I've always found it amusing that Maxima's are almost all auto's, and people who buy them think they're real hot rods when in fact, they're slower than my Sentra!
  • scotth501scotth501 Member Posts: 56
I guess my perspective is a little different. Since I currently have a Nissan product that's 6 years old, I'm more surprised by what the G35 lacks in comparison. According to the used car portion here on Edmunds, my 96 300ZX 2 Door Std coupe is still worth approximately US$15k. Like you said, no car is perfect, but for a car that's supposedly worth twice as much, I find the G35 falls short of being twice. It seems that other benefits of a new car, like a warranty, are offset by the cost of depreciation.

As for other cars, I guess it just annoys me they've managed to address some of the complaints I (and a lot of other people, check out one of the dedicated Z forums like twinturbo.net or zcar.com) have had. Granted, a lot of personal taste, but that doesn't make it wrong to discuss. But to move from the regular Nissan brand to the premium Infiniti brand, I'd really rather not take any steps backward -- like the quality of the leather seats or lateral support in the driver's seat.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Nissan. Buying another was at the top of my list. But with the shabby treatment I've gotten from one of the Infiniti dealers, I've begun looking elsewhere. I was all gung-ho about the G35 at one point, but they're doing a good job of turning me off. I guess I have a hard time believing they'd rather give a guaranteed sale (and repeat business) while other manufacturers are bringing new models out and updating existing ones to directly compete in one of the hottest market segments right now. By telling me to wait 6 months or more until the G35 sales cool off, they're just opening the door for another automaker. Possibly one that will pay attention to those little details.

There are good dealers there are bad dealers. There are good cars and there are lemons. Having a bad car or a poor dealership experience is pervasive. No one car manufacturer is immune to people or car defects. :) Nissan on average does make reliable cars. If the dealer doesn't treat you right, find another if they are within a reasonable distance.

Don't forget that there are some big differences between the 3.2TL Type S and the G35. Just take gearing. The TL Type's 5-speed automatic has a 4.428 final drive! That is designed to maximize initial acceleration. It is geared as follows:

    Gear..Ratio..Overall
    1st... 2.563... 11.349
    2nd... 1.551... 6.868
    3rd... 1.021... 4.521
    4th... 0.653... 2.891
    5th... 0.470... 2.081

(Ya gotta luv this gearin'. Great off-the-line acceleration and outstanding highway fuel economy cruisin'! Why won't Nissan, BMW, etc. learn?!?)

Also have to take into account other factors. It has P215/50 R17 93V tires. Its power output peaks at 260 HP at 6,100 RPMs and 232 lb-ft torque at 3500-5500 RPMs.

The 3.2TL Type S weighs 3,558 pounds empty and has a 62/38 front/rear weight distribution.

Think the above goes a long way toward explaining why the TL Type S has outstanding 0-60 time and great highway fuel economy.

You also have to take into account how fast the car can go in each gear, esp. 1st and 2nd. If the car can't get to 60 mph in 2nd gear and has to shift into 3rd, that can really hurt 0-60 time. What RPM is G35 making in 2nd gear at 60 mph?

Stopped by at the neighborhood 7-11 store for my morning coffee. The young kid at the counter is an East Indian who does not speak English very well. He had noticed the car when I was at the store last night. He looked at the Infiniti emblem and asked "You like your Mazda?" Then he goes on to say "The front, it look good. The back, well it, ....... it not so good." My reply to that was "Yeah, I have heard that before." So there you have it. The Edmunds assessment that the G35 has the automotive equivilent of a dumpy butt has been confirmed by the Southland Corporation ;-)

keyrow: The knobs on the bottom of the seat are of good size and easy to turn with the door closed. The lever to adjust the seat back is a small compromise. As luck would happen, the perfect spot for me is between two of those little clicks. That would not be an issue with electric seats.

reiz: I didn't calculate the gas mileage. The car had 4 miles on it in LA with a full tank. I put $20.00 (10.58 gallons) in Bakersfield which did not fill up the tank. The car now has 446 miles on it with half a tank remaining. I don't think I will ever get great mileage as the car just begs to be driven aggressively. I find myself driving the G35 completely differently than my Solara.

    RPM's: 60mph = 2100
    70mph = 2300
    80mph = 2800 (my average speed)
100mph = sorry, too busy watching my rear
view mirror for you know who ;-)

I am considering a G35 with 17" wheels and would like to use existing 16" wheels with Michelin Artic Alpin tires in the winter from my I30T. The difference in size is -2.2%. Is this a problem?
  • g35manng35mann Member Posts: 37
Rogerab, 2.2% isn't anything to worry about. You could get that between two tires of the same make, in theory. I've always considered anything under 5% 'okay'. I shoot for under 1%, but that's not always going to happen.

Let's put it this way, the tires on my Suzuki Grand Vitara are, um, well, 18% larger in diameter than stock. That happens when you really want to use an "U" part of an SUV. 60 series off-road rubber just doesn't exist.

Mirror tilting in reverse...ugh, that would get old. What with the computers in cars, you'd *think* the manufacturers would include everything they could cram in there, then let *you* choose what you want. That makes sense, as they'd get a discount on volume, pass the cost onto everyone, and you'd get what you want. This isn't hard, I wonder if it is just there isn't *quite* enough money in it, yet. Maximize profits, dontchaknow.

    G35Mann
my wife mentioned how the Q was *perfect* for me, last night...I hope it was the medication, as I'd have to keep it 15-20 years, at that price. Ouch.
  • g35manng35mann Member Posts: 37
Be very careful, as the I is FWD, and the G is RWD, the offsets are going to be radically different. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the I wheels don't come close to fitting the G.

A wake up call from the spirits of fast motoring! and my Guardian Angel is working overtime it seems. Either that, or just dumb luck :)

I Just returned from the city after dropping my wife off at a friends house this morning. On the way back home I was tooling along in the fast lane at about 70-75...

A "fast and furious" Eclipse roars up behind me and I think he almost locked up his brakes trying to come to an intimidating halt only inches off my rear bumper... The thing was a veritable shroud of plastic and giant wings and all kinds of strange doo-dads...

He flashes the high beams and gives me the nice finger gesture in my rear view mirror...

I was actually in a fairly relaxed state listening to classical in the morning and had I seen him come up behind me so recklessly I would have moved over. As it was, it was about 7 in the morning and I think he and I were just about the only one's on the freeway which was 4 lanes wide where we were. Should it have been an easy matter to drift around my car thus carrying your speed? or were his intentions otherwise? Questions to ponder...

At any rate I signal and start to move to the right... But I guess I didn't do it fast enough for him because as I am halfway into the next lane he steps on it and THEN proceeds to pull around me on the right!

I twitched back into the fast lane (The G35 handled that very well *smile*) as he flashes past me, and I had to almost tap the brakes as he cut back into the lane almost taking off my right front fender.

At this point I'm pretty angry (I need to learn to control my emotions better particularly in this car) And so I tap the stick over to manual with the back of my hand and in it split second it drops to 4th and I put my foot into it (1023 miles now so I felt better about engine stress)

Well it seemed that he didn't want to go any faster than about 100mph (wet pavement after rains) and I passed him about 10 seconds later touching 120... I kept that speed for a few more seconds then slowed down to 90... He caught up and passed me on the left (no eye contact) and changed lanes right in front of me. I put my foot into it again and this time he didn't want to venture into the same speed regime in the long descending right hand sweeper we were both in.

I rocketed away at a rate that surprised me even though I knew he was still attempting to stay ahead of me. For the briefest of instants the car got a little light on a rise in the freeway (now doing about 110) and I saw a "SLIP" light on the dash flash for a second and that kind of startled me, so I slowed a bit...

Here he comes again and to my left pacing me... He holds for a few seconds in that position then I hear his motor kick up a notch and he slowly starts to pull ahead.

I step on it again and in a matter of a few seconds I see his fake "blue tint" xenon knockoffs a few hundred yards behind me...

At this point, I thought that it was fairly obvious of the cars comparative performance, and slowed back down to freeway speed...

But he still wants more and so he rockets past me again which at least to him might have seemed impressive since I was back down to about 70mph...

Well at the onramp just ahead of me I suddenly see a CHP cruiser FLY onto the freeway just as he is passing that same onramp! It was a lightshow of blue and red and yellow lights and I think he almost rear ended the Eclipse because the guy jumped on his brakes (in surprise I suppose)

As I tool by, they are both just moving onto the shoulder. I thought it was amusing since the guy in the eclipse was signalling and it was the first time I had seen him do that.

As I passed I moved into the slow lane.

I turned my classical music back up and made sure once again as I passed that I made no eye contact...

Now I'm thinking about getting some breakfast :)

I guess I got a little annoyed when you posted three straight posts complaining about this and that of the G35.

I understand your situation about the dealership. Many on this forum have access to several dealerships within a hour drive some do not and you may fall into that category. I know with myself there are only two dealerships within the state. I am fortunate that my dealership is a very good dealership otherwise I would not be driving a G35 right now. I agree with you that dealerships can make or break the ownership experience.

Hope you find the vehicle you really want.

The G35 can easily smoke most souped up Eclipse. That thing is a piece of junk! Typically when you see someone approaches your rear end at a fast speed, he wants to race you. Period! Otherwise, he could have easily changed lane on a empty highway.

One thing I want to share with everyone on this board about street racing (since it's hard not to go fast on the G35). I have a couple friends that are policemen. If you are racing a car at the light and all of a sudden you hear a siren and red/blue lights coming up behind you within 200 yards, chances are both of you are caught racing. With two cars racing and one patrol car chasing, who do you think he'll pick? Here's the trick from what my friends (police) have told me if you want to avoid a citation. If you see red/blues behind you, be the FIRST one to pull over the curb IMMEDIATELY. Chances are, the cop will pick the car that is still racing down the street. It'll make his day if he gets to chase someone. Afterall, the cops love to drive fast too! Once you see the patrol car drives past you while he chases the other guy, wait few minutes ,then make a U-turn and get the heck out of there!

Maybe I don't understand what the complaint is. Both my wife's '00 323iA and my '98 540i6 have this feature. It only tilts the passenger side mirror. AND it can be turned OFF. She tends to leave her's off and I leave mine on. (She has to park her car outside. I turn her's off if there is going to be ice or snow. Don't want to harm the motor if the mirror freezes up.) I find it to be a great help when parking. I like to get close to curb but not hit it. Is a nice feature that helps the driver have potentially valuable choices depending upon how they like to drive.

Dane 4, Another good story! Vivid like a car chase movie sequence. Can't wait to read your report on your dinner tonight with the redhead.

You did not mention anything about engine noise. Guess it is not noticable in your long haul.

ask your police friends what will happen if someone races a cop car from a traffic light? :)

I actually did it last night with my TL-S. To the 65mph speed limit. Made sure to not chirp the tires. Just steadily outdragged him.

He was in the left lane, I was in the right. He then got behind me (2-3 feet) and stayed there for a minute or so. Probably was reading my license plate. I maintaned 65mph. He then swung out and passed me on the left. As he was a few feet ahead of me, he "chirped" his red and blue lights and then very quickly accelerated toward the horizon.

I was testing the acceleration in the G35 yesterday in manumatic mode and it was doing <6000 rpm at 60MPH in 2nd gear.

I have to admit to being a bit surprised at the tires that are on the G35 STS. If I remember correctly, they are the Goodyear GS-D's. I didn't find that they had traction that was matched to their speed rating and price. Anyone else notice this?

What tires are on the standard suspention 17" wheels?

Stooge2000: I like the growl of the engine during acceleration. Didn't even notice it at highway speeds. What I did notice was how good the base radio could bring in a distant radio station and how well it sounded. I caught myself saying more than once "Boy am I glad I didn't waste $900.00 on a Bose radio".

faenor: My Mercedes C320 boy racer on Interstate 5 tried to bait me somewhat like your Eclipse. I felt gratified knowing that I could have smoked him but even more so by refusing to get sucked down to his level of ignorance. The more people learn about what the G35 is all about, the more people are going to want a race. Every time I see someone speed away after I refuse to race them I know that it's check mate for me.

Went to the Infiniti dealeship to pick up my plates today. Learned that I was the first person in Memphis to drive a G35 off the lot (there were several preorders, but I go one of the first deliveries and mine wasn't a preorder). The sales manager came out and told me that he and several of the salesmen has recently got back from Dallas where they went through training on the G35, and saw it driven on the race track compared with other cars in its class (e.g., new Jag, Lexus, etc.) and told me how well it performd. The interesting point for me was he asked if I had posted messages on Edmunds.com Town Hall about my G35. I said yes, and asked him if he had read them, and he said no, he hadn't yet, but was told by some of the Infiniti corporate type (I assumed) who had read them which described my decision making process in getting one, and my experience (see me messages # 2935 and 2937). Anyway, the sales manager and my salemen both said they were going to get on this forum to catch the buzz and chatter. I had always assumed that Infiniti people in the business would practically haunt a forum like this to see what buyers and prospective buyers are discussing, and some apparently are, but I guess the local people will too. This mornings Memphis daily had a hugh ad for the G, and the dealership has quite a few people wanting to test drive (I even ran into our Personnel Director there, who seemd to be keen on leasing one), Still amvery much wowed with my G35 and looked for any excuse to keep it out on todays beautiful sunny afternoon. Very cool.
