    TSB re: "driveability concerns."
Such a wonderfully vague term--must have come from a politician...

I've read other posts about the engine suddenly shutting off while making a turn--don'tcha just hate it when that happens?! Sounds like a Taurus I had once. Anyway, I'm wondering if a surging engine might qualify under that "driveability concern" and I hope that the fix fixes yours. I would think that a surging engine might not be the safest thing, especially on major freeways where people drive 80 mph 10 feet from one another. Even when you try to maintain a safe distance, someone will invariably squeeze in--hope the engine doesn't surge at that moment!

I called the shop and they used your basic T-plug that connects to the tail light connection. He said they tested for voltage strength it it seemed ok to them. I guess sometimes the lights will be dim and if that happens they have to hardwire back to the battery. This plug connection is out on the web at etrailer.com

I will be interested to know if your Limited comes with the 18" wheels.

I didn't do the conversion and relied on another posting for the numbers. Sounds like you calculations are off. Since I purchased my Freestyle I have been primarily in the city and getting 17 to 18 mpg when the mileage was below 1000 and it has increased to 19 to 20 now with 1350 miles on the odometer. Last fill up 19.85 mpg. Mostly short trips with a lot of stop and go. I'm only 6 miles from work and take the city streets one way. I had it out on a short road trip a couple of weeks age and got 27 mpg. Hopefully that will increase too. Planning a trip from Mpls to NYC this summer.

Your mileage appears to be high to me. On a couple of recent 2-2.5 hour highway trips we have averaged between 10 and 11L/100km. This has been at speeds of 85-90 km/hr with cruise control. This means that we have been able to get over 500 km out of a tank. The last time I filled up the computer said 638 km to empty...not sure this was all that realistic since the number fell pretty fast to the high 500's. I do not reset the computer at all when I fill up. So far I have been very happy with the mileage.
We are going on a trip to Montreal this weekend and will put on 1,000+Km (and 5.5hours each way) so I will see how the mileage is with a slightly higher speed.

I ordered the vents from parts-world and got a reply that they were out of stock and would be shipped from the manufacturer in 2 to 3 weeks. I contacted Lund by e-mail and they stated they were not the manufacturer. Not sure where they will come from or when. Total price with shipping $60.00. Still, the wait will be worth it. I had my doubts about the Ford vents mounting on the outside of the door frame. I'm having my rear door windows tinted to match the back windows. Checked two tinting shops in Mpls., $129.00. Seems like a lot but a better job than I could do so worth the money. Thanks for the tip on the vents.

Also in Canada.. have 3300KM on my FWD SEL and mileage started to improve at about 2750km... I am now averaging about 11.4 liters per 100km (approx. 25mpg) for a daily commute with city and highway. I have seen the indicator go as low as 9.4 L/100k on a warm day, during a highway run, with cruise control set at 120km/per hour. I also log my fuel and will be doing a true calc over the weekend but I am certain that I am getting better than 18.9.

I had the same response from parts-world but the vents arrived in four days direct from Lund. The Lund name is stamped on each of the vents as well as the vacuum sealed package.

I got mine from my dealer, they weren't much more than Walmart, dealer installed also.I have had many sets of these and never a problem. You can remove them with a hair drier if you wish.I smoke so I leave windows cracked always,no rain. The moon roof deflector is real quiet but the 2 screws were too long and glass would not close properly, shortened them myself.Do not over tighten moon roof screws and keep the clips straight.Bug deflector seems solid.

I ordered the T-One spliceless connector and it is a straight forward install. Just unplug connectors to rear taillights and connect the T-one adapters. Instructions for those who are interested can be obtained in PDF format at

We have had our Freestyle for a few months (about 4500 miles now), we got it to replace our questionable dependability vehicle. Well we had an incident. Near Cullman Alabama, 2 hours after departing our hotel for the day, we lost power and came to rest. We tried to restart but nothing was happening. I called Ford roadside, which has a better towing distance than AAA, and got a ride back to Cullman. It was Sunday morning, so we checked into a hotel near the dealership and waited.

Monday morning brought an interesting result. The car was fixed quickly, but the cause was frustrating... apparently there is a wiring harness under the passenger side dash that got 'kicked' loose. This harness attached to the 'inertia sensor'. Well we made it out alive.

    Greetings all:

I purchased a Titanium Green w/Pebble Limited AWD yesterday and am quite pleased with my selection. It has the moonroof, aux A/C, garage opener, reverse sensing, safety pkg and adjustable pedals. I paid $31,500 which is inline with the TMV that Edmunds gives.

Overall the quality appears good but the headliner material looks rather cheesy. There seems to be enough power although the engine seems rather noisy at times. Lots of room, the audiophile sound system is very nice and the moonroof has one touch open/close. I traded a 2003 Sport Trac (great vehicle but mileage could be better). We shall see how the powertrain holds up.

BTW, mine was built in March and was received by the dealer in early April. The car had only 4 miles on it so I doubt is was test driven by anyone but myself.

For those that have changed their own oil, is the filter easy to reach/remove/replace? I read it uses the FL820S filter - same as my Sport Trac.

Happy and safe motoring to all -

According to the friendly folks at Vaovoline Instant Oil Change, the Freestyle is the new "champion" for being the easiest oil and filter change on the market. He called everybody in the shop over to see how easy it was to get to. :P

I called my salesman last night and explained our concern.

He suggested that we fill up the tank, reset the odomoter and run it until the empty warning light comes on and log our results. He told us to do this for 2 fill ups.

He also drives a Freestyle but never really noticed the consumption since it's a dealer car and I'm sure the gas money is not coming out of his pocket.

I'm estimating that I get about 360 to 380 km on a tank of gas. Which is an average of about 18 L/100K. Highly unacceptable in my book especially in light of what everyone else here is reporting.

So, I'll try that for the next 2 fill-ups and see what happens. Already it's not looking too good. 22 litres consumed and 110 km traveled so far.

Ok so this isn't for the Freestyle, and I hope its kosher with the mods but I found this 2006 order guide for the 500. It may provide some ideas as to changes to the Freestyle in 2006 as well. Nothing yet on the Freestyle

I have a fwd Sed and am very concerned about my mileage as well. I have only been getting 16 mpg in the city. If I drive on the highway a short time, it will go up to 17. It seems to be getting worse not better. This week it is at 15.5 for the first time. I have filled it up about 7 times and have @1400 miles on the car. Should I wait until after my oil change at the end of may to see if it gets better? Will Ford actually do anything about it?

Freestyle log, date April 28, 2005. Well, I am 750 miles into my 1500 mile journey. With 90% of the driving in the 65 - 70 mph range, the Freebie computer said I was getting ~26.2 miles per gallon with 1200 miles on it. This with an AWD SEL (must be the red paint). I am pleased! It was quiet - so quiet. I felt some wind push on one part of the trip. When I lowered a window, the wind was blowing quite hard. More later.

I have been thinking about those with mileage issues. A colleague at work got a Murano last fall (they also have CVTs). They can't get much above 15 - 17 MPG. A friend who got almost the identical Murano was getting 20 - 22 MPG with fewer miles. Could it be a CVT software calibration issue? Odd that the Freebie and Murano CVT vehicles - being so different - have similar issues.

Even though I just got my Freestyle Limited yesterday, I'm already looking into getting some accessories to further enhance the appearance.

Chrome Exhaust Tips - These are shown in the Freestyle brochure. Anyone out there get these for their Freestyle? I ordered a set and hope they can be installed w/o any special tools or assistance from the dealer.

Stainless Steel Scuff Plates - these were listed on the fordaccessories site. No pic available but they were somewhat pricey for a set of four.

Splash Guards - I haven't seen any specifically for the Freestyle. Anyone have splashguards installed on their Freestyle?

Thanks for any info that you all could provide.

On a very positive note, I was out and about today and the car was a true pleasure to drive. With the speed control set at 60 on level pavement the rpm's were about 1,600 and the car was very quiet - not Lexus quiet but very hushed. The MPG reading is giving me 23.5 at this point but I will check the actual MPG when I fill up. Most of my driving (90%) is highway so I hope to achieve 23-24 MPG overall as the engine breaks in.

    Regards -

    M. J. McCloskey - AWD Limited

I looked at the exhaust tips from Ford and turned away when I saw the price; $128.00. Auto Zone has chrome tips for about $8.00 each. The 2.25" dont fit, waiting for the store to restock 2.5" I.D. tips. They aren't as fancy as Ford's but are chrome, turn down and look OK. These are installed easily by tightening two set screws. I saw some scuff plates in the accessories catalog that looked like rubber, with Freestyle in chrome written in the center, maybe those are a little less expensive than stainless. I'm waiting for splash guards too. I hope someone will alert the forum when they become available.

My 5 day old Freestyle SE FWD went into the shop today because the transmission light came on twice yesterday. After a couple of anxious phone calls, I was told there was something that needed to be re-programmed. Got it back this evening, running fine, no light.

Anyhow, I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

Also, has anyone had an aftermarket DVD player put into their Freestyle? I was looking at a Panasonic or Sony unit, the local places have a lot of other brands I never even heard of.

I work at a Ford dealership and one of our guy's is telling me that they will make a Remote Module that plugs into the plug were talking about. But it takes this Module to make a power connection with this plug. Drawtite will have this on the market in two weeks. Thanks for your time. teddyedwards@hotmail.com I still would like to know about hard wiring it sounds cheaper...

We got our FWD Limited yesterday. The merlot metallic is gorgeous and the faux wood on the dash warms up the pebble interior. It came with the 17" wheels as I expected. Ford has made a few modifications on the wheel to distinguish them from the SEL wheels- they look very nice. Got the price reduction. So far it drives great and feels very refined- any peppy, too. The subwoofer in the back is kind of puny, but the sound is pretty good. I have huge subwoofers in our home, so I am a bit jaded. This is a lovable vehicle; we hope it is reliable. Au revoir et a la prochaine.

Brun, can you describe why the 17" were substituted? Also, do you have a pic of the new wheels to post? I have one on order now.

    Thanks

Hi All, I just took a ten day trip out to Iowa from Ohio and back again! A 10-10.5 hour drive. I averaged 28.8 MPG on the drive out. I was a good girl then and stayed within the legal speed limit of 65. The trip home I averaged 72 MPH and only got 26.5MPG. What a difference driving the speed limit gets you!! Love the car. Put 1,600 miles in ten days. Up to 3998 now and had its first oil change today!
I did have loads of problems with the C.D. changer though. I called the dealer today and they are ordering me a new one to install as soon as they get it.

    Take care all

Remember the good old days when you could option out the radio and just have an aftermarket installed instead?
With all I'm hearing about the CD player being a bit finicky, it sure would be nice just to deduct a few hundred bucks off the price of the car and then have a nice unit installed the day after you pick up the new wheels.

    oh, well.

It sounds like most people are loving their Freebies. I may be in the market for one in the next few months so I've been doing quite a bit of research on them. The next few months will seal the deal for me. I want to see more input / reviews and see more mileage put on them first so... drive, drive, drive!
    :-)

Wow, am I ever getting discouraged by the great mileage numbers people are posting.

There is seriously something amiss with my Freestyle. I'm still get about 14L/100KM on the highway and close to 20L/100KM city driving. Almost double the fuel consumption posted.

Maybe it's this: I bought the Freestyle with 7,000 KM on it. The president of the dealership was driving it. Before we took possession, they did an oil change. Could it be that they used the wrong type of oil? Or maybe they never changed the oil filter? Would something like that affect mileage this drastically?

Besides that, it's a great car. Drives like a champ, nice pick up, smooth ride. It's just this dang mileage thing that's depressing me.

Anymore mileage reports from any of you would be appreciated. Ammunition for when I bring it back to the dealer to have it checked out.

I don't know the exact reason for the substitution- they head of marketing didn't explain. I have my own theory: the price difference between a FWD Limited and a SEL with leather and convenience pak is not that great considering all the extra stuff you get only on the Limited. I suspect the 18" wheels and the much more expensive Pirelli tires were factors. Or not enough Pirelli tires available?? While I would prefer a wider tire, I discovered that there would be a big wait to order a new Pirelli if an original needed replacement. So I will be content with what I have and replace the Continentals with a wider tire down the line. I got my money's worth and more. Good luck with yours.
  • bdymentbdyment Member Posts: 573
Your mileage would not be affected to any great amount by an oil or filter change. Are you figuring your mileage manually--noting kms driven and actual litres used between fill ups--or are you using the on board computer for your data?

Computers can be quite a bit off and sometimes have to be reset to achieve a good ballpark figure. Check a few runs manually. I don't see how your mileage can be so poor compared to others.
  • bizarroronjbizarroronj Member Posts: 27
Well, I was going according to the on-board computer and now I'm figuring it out manually.

On a tank of gas, I get about 360 KM (360/3.6=100) (Tank 70/3.6=19.44). So, my manual calculations are on par with the on-board computer. When you think about it, 360KM is light years less than the 500+ miles per tank reported on various sites....

I'm in no way a lead foot, but I don't baby the car either. A couple of times, I've tried babying it, slow acceleration, constant speed, and I got it to about 14L/100km. But this was almost exclusive highway. According to the specs, I should be getting 9L/100km on the highway! Admittedly, I do a lot of city driving, but still....19 is a lot more than 11.

Also, people who have been reporting their mileage in this forum don't do so with any caveats. So, they're getting great readings with the on-board computer and they're reporting rates very close and even sometimes better than what Ford says.

Bottom line is: both on-board and manual calculations say the same thing: My Freestyle is guzzling gas.

    Scott:

I am the writer of #3005 and you have exactly described the issue that we have! I was beginning to wonder if it was just us. Like you describe, the issue presents itself at almost exactly 2000RPM under a moderate load. I have found that it doesn't matter if AC is on or off. On a recent trip, I felt that using cruise control may have mitigated the issue somewhat, but I couldn't be sure. I too am planning on bringing the referenced TSB next time I am in at 5K. I have searched this board and many others and have not yet found anything that was as similar to our situation as you have described. Please report back if you find out anything!

    Thanks.

The trip continues. The bulk of a college room fit in the Freebie. Pretty impressive. Using a Saris "claw" bike rack on the rear hatch, I was able to configure it to let me open the hatch with the rack attached (no bike of course).

Saw a Merlot LTD Freestyle today. Being 750 miles from home, I felt in good company. Having dinner with a friend the other night, he said the sales person who sold his new Explorer said people have returned a number of Freestyles because "they don't seat you as high as the Explorer". (I think that is the point behind the Freestyle, personally). Sales people are know for exaggerating and extrapolating small bits of data, but it may also imply that the Ford sales folk don't know how to sell the Freebie's features. They already know how to sell the Explorer. Lower ride height relates to stability. They can't sell it as a "small SUV". :shades:

I get roughly 350 miles, about 560km per tank of gas with my AWD. Normal fill up is around 16 gallons, 58L, and I drive a combination of rural, highway and city. My onboard readings, mileage and gas used are very close to being the same as manual figures. If my conversions are correct 360km, 225 miles, per tank is lousy mileage.

Bruneau, as you may recall we both have been clamoring for the Limited FWD for quite some time and finally yours has arrived, so you have my congrats and i hope everything lives up to your expectations. I am however very much jaded over this longterm pent-up demand and it has been only about 2 weeks ago that I got the word that there will not be an '05 Ltd FWD built for Canada.Waaa waaa why? It appears the harder it is to get the order in the more adamant we are to stick for the Ltd FWD and Not buy the AWD.

Meanwhile I went to our local Mazda dealership to scope out the Mazda 6 Sport Wagon. It was a crummy old bldg and the dealer's business was 50% pleasure boats and outboard motors with only 2 cars taking up a small space in the showroom. The service dept. was very unimpressive as they were just servicing a couple of boats. The next Mazda dealer is some 30 miles away in the next city. Their setup is unknown.

Although Mazda badly needs to expand/improve their distribution channels I have to say that I was very much impressed by the quality/finish of the topline Mazda 6 Wagon GT-V6. When I lifted the hood, I thought wow it's made in Japan. Mazda sure knows how to dress up the engine compartment. But no it's made in the Ford-Mazda AAI plant in Flat Rock,Mich.by UAW workers.Mazda did not go cheap by putting the cost squeeze on suppliers. The tires were Michelin Pilots and costed out at $145 vs the Pirellis at $92 on Freebie at Tire Rack prices. The Mazda wagon comes with dual exhaust outlets with bright tips and stainless exhaust system. I also like the 6speed manumatic tranny.Even the lowline Mazda 3 with cloth seats showed much higher quality material than on the Freebie SE, SEL.

If it had a Ford badge and sold at Ford dealerships I think it would sell more hot pancakes than Ihop.It also has the 3.0 Duratec with VVT @ 220 hp but torq.is less @ 192 ft.lb. Ford also must have sluffed off some of the older Duratecs 3L to Mazda as I noticed the oil filter was still located in the hard to get recessed area versus the very convenient and improved location in the freebie. All in all, it appears to be a super buy at Canadian MSRPs fully loaded GT-V6 $35500 vs Freestyle FWD $41600.(Taxes excluded).

Incidentally, Canadian reviewers have high praise for the Mazda wagon and I haven't come any criticism about it being underpowered with the Duratec 3L. However the Mazda is about a foot shorter in length and 500 lbs. less weight.
As I stated earlier we are still stuck on the Freebie Ltd FWD but if we can't get it then next choice could be a Mazda 6 GT-V6.
So c'mon Ford get your Full act together PRONTO !!

I also agree with some of the other responses to thread #3117. His metric readout of 18.9Litres/100Km appears to be really bizarre. Is there an optional readout to get it in xx miles/per U.S. gal. even though we have to pay by the litre?
I personally hate this metric stuff which still forces me to make some mental calculations to get a better idea of true length, weight, etc as I'm more used to the old school method.

I seem to recall when I last tested out a Freestar van when I could get readouts in metric or in English( which is in U.S. gals?), and if so, if it says 20 miles/U.S. gal then I can make a quick mental calculation and say I'm getting 24mpg as our Cdn Imperial gal. is 20% larger.

My Ford Explorer also has a convenient outside temperature display that you can select in either Fahrenheit or Celsius readings.

Here is a link to a new story about a Freestyle crash with an Acura that crossed the center line. The 5-star Freestyle crash rating was put to the test.

The 32-year old Freestyle driver and a 3-year old in the vehicle survived unhurt. The sole occupant of the Acura died.

Mileage. I am not going to be concerned about mileage until about 1,000 miles. Until then, ignorance is bliss. This forum always contains valuable information and opinions, but sometimes we all can have info overload which leads to anxiety and mild paranoia. I know. The EPA "estimates" don't take into account the use of the air conditioner- dumb, but that's the way it is. Most reviewers of the
Freestyle AWD have average mileage at 19 . Surging. If the vehicle is changing speed on its own, that needs looking at. However, if the rpms are increasing-decreasing without change in accelerator position, that is normal operation of the CVT computer as it adjusts to conditions. It's kind of fun to watch it in action. Willie, sorry about the situation in Canada. I think I have the first FWD Limited made. Ford must have wanted to stop me from calling customer service. I looked at the Mazda wagon; it's a cool vehicle, but I couldn't get comfortable in it. A recent test. Autoweek just pitted a FWD Freestyle against the vaunted Honda Odyssey. An odd comparison, I know, but in their tests the Ford beat the Honda in acceleration, handling, and braking. The Odyssey, costing $7,000 more, has more room. Dahh- who would have guessed.

For the record, I have 9000 KM logged on the Freestyle (about 5,000 miles).

    My local dealers didn't have what I wanted--FWD SEL Norsea/Shale/7-seat 3rd row 50-50/Front row package/auxillary climate/reverse sensing--so with the help of FordDirect.com I found 5--all in Dallas, strange...

Went by Woodhouse Ford in Blair, NE--according to a few measures the biggest Ford dealer in the US and certainly the biggest in the Kansas City region. After a reasonable amount of negotiating, we came to terms. Traded an 03 Winnie on it. Just getting ready to leave the lot when our salesperson came running after us--the dealer in Dallas had sold it out from under us! It had been sitting on their lot according to FordDirect for weeks, and just so happened to sell as we were dealing...

Went looking again, found one in Dickinson, ND! Never thought to look in such a rural area. Same price, with the bonus of engine block heater.

Sold on Saturday, got the car on Wednesday. Only hassle is that instead of using a rollaway or a transport, apparently Woodhouse drove up there and drove it back! The bill of sale said 20 miles and I got it with 820...

Bruneau, I sure as hell believe you when you said yours is most probably the first Limited FWD built. Therefore you are the leader of a hungry pack of Ltd FWD wannahaves which should build up to a huge tsunami-type demand for the topline FWD. Unless Ford has some kind of mysterious reason I just cannot fully understand how they can justify to ignore this very important segment leading to a great profit margin and especially at a time when Bill Ford has declared that his company's guidance is indicating lower profits for the year.

When I read the news from Ford Media it appears they are basking in the partial good fortune of "unprecedented" high demand for AWD in the D3 units which keeps the Chicago plant humming nicely but that's something about inital demand from a limited avant garde group who want to jump on the bandwagon of being the first owners of a Ford AWD vehicle. That in itself could be a very good thing for them if it really suits their needs. At the same time I have to wonder if some of them realize that possibly 90%+ of the time their AWD is operating in FWD.
I also tried bugging Ford's Customer Relations in Canada a few times and all I got was the same useless canned answers. Another good reason why they will be re-located back to Melbourne,Fla.

There's a saying that better things will come to those who wait so I will still cling on to a thin strand of hope that we can get the Ltd FWD for my wife's car by possibly in the early Fall as a '06 model or if not then it's something else.
Bruneau keep posting periodically to let us know of your ownership/driving impressions, good, bad or whatever. But of course we are expecting mostly a very enjoyable experience.Hope also your FWD will deliver better fuel consumption than some of the related issues reported lately. :)

I have been following your comments with interest as I have been awaiting the arrival of the FWD LTD as well. I was working with a local dealer who called me on Friday and found a Dark Charcoal / Blk Leather with mnrf and safety package as specified in the Chicago area. Went in yesterday to do the deal and found out it was sold, and if they could not locate another one I would have to order a late 05 ??? or perhaps 06 which would take at a minimum 6-8 weeks. I am x-plan and for the first time was interested in a lease due to the high residual of the freestyle and ? durabilty of the new CVT technology I wanted it under warranty for the whole term, after 2 years if I love it I will buy a new one (hopefully with the new 3.5 Vtech). After they assesed my trade which for the first time in my life I was pleasantly surprised was worth more than I expected, I looked at what they had on the lot. To make a long story short I drove home in a Charcoal / Blk LTD AWD as speced with a few more goodies than I wanted for 1k under xplan and a 1k rebate for x plan buyers. I ended up with this one for just about where I would have been on the FWD I wanted.

Our week old Freestyle was in the shop on its 5th day of service (with 130 miles on the odometer) because the transmission light came on. I was told "it was re-programmed per Ford specifications" and got it back after it was in the shop all day.

Two days later (now a week old, with 235 miles on the odometer) the light came back on last night.

I will be sure to be back at the dealer first thing when they open Monday AM.

Anybody else have this type of problem?

I really would like this car to be replaced, or get my trade-in back. I know I will get the usual run-around though.

I am considering purchasing a Freestyle and I have learned more about them by checking and reading these postings. The word "freebies" is used frequently, but I do not know what it means in these postings. Can you explain? Thks. I

I have been thinking about purchasing a Freestyle, and have been reading the postings on this site. Its a great forum One question I have is the difference between the normal rear air vents and how they work compared to the auxiliary air conditioning system. Don’t the rear passengers receive air conditioning from their rear vents when the main A/C or fan is on? Or does the auxiliary air provide more vents and provide more control such as temperature and fan speed?

As a new (less than 1 week) Freestyle owner, I have noticed a few recent owners that are having major issues with their Freestyles.

When I purchased mine on 4/27/05, there were 3 exact models like mine. I examined the inspection sticker & production label on each and selected the one that was manufactured/delivered most recently. I also noticed the Ford website mentioned 'Job order #2' on the window sticker affixed to my Freestyle. I then searched several dealers using the Ford Dealerships search engine and discovered that many dealerships had many vehicles like mine that didn't have the 'Job order #2' noted on the window sticker. I assumed these Freestyles were from the 'First' batch. I am wondering if the more recently produced Freestyles (Job order #2) may not be as prone to problems that the 'First' batch of Freestyles seem to be having even though they have been recently purchased.

Sorry to ramble on, but I want to provide my complete POV on those having drivetrain issues with recently purchased Freestyles which may be of some help.

I do hope those with issues have successful resolutions as I have nothing but praise for my new Freestyle.

    Regards -

Don't worry,Ford is delivering the goods.I just came off 2 bad cars this yr.,an Avalanche that was thirsty and underpowered and a Dodge Sprinter(MB) that was absulutely the worst of the 39 new vehicles I ever owned.

I've got my confidence back and really falling in love with my Freestyle.I view lots of forums and nothing but praise.Even the foriegn lovin magazinr writers are complimenting it.If something happens it happens but Ford is selling 10,000 pr month and the traded with me right.I have also had great care from the selling dealer Advantage Ford in Fremont Ohio.

22 mpg first tank, very quiet, most features that I wanted, priced right, easy driver, peppy, and very safe in snow and ice.People look at it and ask me what it is and how I like it.

    what's not to like,

Just returned from a round trip from Toronto to Montreal (11 hours to pick up our son from University). We have 9,500 km on our AWD LTD. The Freestyle drives like a dream. Absolutely no problems - has to be the most comfortable vehicle we have purchased. On the trip down our mileage was 9.5 L/100 km (only my wife and I and basically very little luggage). On the return trip our mileage was 10.2 L/100km (son and his stuff filled the back). Both these figures were based on the computer. I checked manually with our one fill-up and we got 495 km and put in 50.5L of fuel (translates to 10.2 L/100km). I used the cruise control set at about 108 km/hr. I am very satisfied with this mileage - much better than our 2000 Mazda MPV.

The manual suggests that when you are trying to establish your highway fuel economy that you set the cruise control and reset the average fuel economy window. I guess this removes any city/stop & go driving. Seemed to work well for me.

I also burned an MP3 CD for the trip and played it for over 3/4's of the trip (and we still had not heard it all so I'm guessing that it is 6 hours - not sure since I just filled the CD with MP3's that my son has). Sounds excellant!

"Feebie" is just a nickname for Freestyle. See post 1248!

Freebie seems to be an informal designation for the Freestyle as used in this Forum. As properly used, it should be capitalized.
