2007 Saturn Aura

dons05malibudons05malibu Member Posts: 13
Hello everyone, looking to compare notes on some problems I'm having with my 07 Saturn Aura XR with 9,644 miles.

My Onstar stopped working so I brought the car in for service. While I was there I told them about the service ESC warning that had come on twice as well as the service air bag warning that I got once. I also mentioned the front passenger interior door handle that was peeling.

First the good news-the door trim problem is apparently common and they replaced the "faulty bezel" with a new one.

The technician diagnosed the Onstar problem and ordered the VCIM module to repair it. Part is expected within the week.

Technician recalibrated the brake pedal position sensor to address the service ESC code. Approximately 25 minutes and 15 miles after leaving Saturn the "service ESC-ESC OFF" and trouble light displayed. So much for that "fix".

Technician found code B0088 as a 1st step in diagnosing the service air bag code. Tech performed recalibration of the inflatable module. Keep my fingers crossed on that one.

Finally, I start my car tonight and the brake lights stay on. I tap the brake pedal and nothing happens-brake lights stay on. Is this connected to the brake pedal position calibration??

All comments and advice welcome.

Thanks,
Don

PS. I bought the Saturn to replace my 05Malibu that was totalled.

Hello to all! I have had my Aura for a little over a year and have been very pleased with it. There is one nagging problem. When driving over uneven/lumpy/rough pavement at approximately 20 to 40 MPH, there is an intermittent squeak which sounds as though it is coming from the suspension. Dealer replaced front stabilizer bar bushings, and has rear bushings on order. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have a 2007 Aura and I am having so many problems. Now that I am reading blogs I noticed that the small things I did not report others I have had too. I have had the service ESC light to come on and they could not figure out how to fix that. The car would not start and they said it was the battery so I replaced that. But now I am thinking that it really was not the battery because Auto Zone said the battery was good. My biggest issue is my brake lights are on while driving and off when I pressed the brakes. I have two small children and this is very dangerous. My car was in the shop for 8 days only to get it back and have the same problem! I have put the car in the shop a total of 4 times for the same thing. I am getting ready to call Saturn help desk to report this and file a application for Texas Lemon Law.

Just dropped off my Aura at Saturn today (Monday). Hopefully they can repair the problem with the ESC and the brake lights. I told them that I read on the Saturnfans.com forum that the ESC problem is connected to speed sensors on the wheels. At least this time the ESC problem isn't intermittent-it displays continuously. I'm thinking that when they adjusted the brake pedal sensor last week they adjusted it wrong and that's why the lights stay on all the time. The first time I had a brake light problem the brake lights went off momentarily when I tapped the pedal. This time I'll check the brake lights before I drive away from Saturn. When I get more info I'll let you know.

I too dropped off my car this morning. And so far they can not tell what is wrong with it! He told me he would try it again in the morning. When I tap my brakes they go off but come right back on. This is my 5th visit for the same issue since 8/15/08, so hopefully the can figure out the problem. I had a sensor replaced last week so I am not sure what the issue is now? Do you ever get a fluttering under your brakes when you put your vehicle in gear?

Saturn is keeping my car in the shop another day and the service writer couldn't provide me with any updates. I'll just have to wait and see and try out another rental car at Saturn's expense. I'm also hoping that the Onstar part is delivered so they can fix that now and I don't have to go back again. I haven't had any pedal flutters as you describe but I'll let you know if I do.

Hi, is your car still under warranty?
• dons05malibudons05malibu Member Posts: 13
Yes-still covered under the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. I only purchased the car new in August 2007 (original owner),
• madauraownermadauraowner Member Posts: 7
I bought my vehicle in May 07 as a demo with 8000 miles on it. I am over the mileage because of how much I drive daily! So the lemon law will not work for me. However, I did contact the Saturn National Assistance Desk and filed a case. The district specialist called me today and advised that they can not duplicate the problem, so they will keep the vehicle until they can. Once that is done the will call the engineers in to try to fix the problem. So lets see where we go from here. What the status on your car?
• dons05malibudons05malibu Member Posts: 13
Will pick up car in the morning. Saturn said they fixed the Onstar problem and made adjustments to the brake pedal sensor to correct the brake lights and also corrected the ESC problem. They mentioned a technical service bulletin and I will find out more specific info in AM and let you know.

Just picked up car-brake lights functioning normally and ESC light is off. Saturn replaced the VCIM module in Onstar and it works again except I now have a new phone number and phone number presets are gone. It appears that the "fix" was recalibrating the brake sensor. Saturn gave me a copy of a diagnostic procedure they used to troubleshoot problem. I don't know if this is a TSB but the document id is #1799534 and refers to DTC C0161 ABS/TCS Brake Switch Circuit. I'll keep you posted if the problem returns.
Good luck-Don

So I go and pick up my vehicle yesterday and guess what??? The brake lights were still on! They advised they could not duplicate the problem when the vehicle was there. I find that hard to believe. But they also supposedly replaced the brake sensor and several other problems! So just keep a look out on your brake lights. I am waiting on a call back from the National Assistance Department. I am really getting fed up with this problem and not having my vehicle!
• dons05malibudons05malibu Member Posts: 13
That is terrible. Did you leave the car with them again while the brake lights were on? I just came back from Saturn this morning because the phone feature of Onstar wouldn't work. The tech got it working within an hour. He didn't have to change any parts but he got through to Onstar when I couldn't. Everything appears to be working now but I still check my brake lights all the time. Please keep me updated on when/how your problem is resolved.

This is really getting out of hand! I am ready to take this to the next level. My car has been in the shop since Sept 30 and no one can tell me what is wrong with my car! They advised that they repair all the wires and took parts from a new saturn and put them on my car! And my vehicle is still not repair. By the way I had the brake sensor repaired on my 4th visit. So yes they still have my car!

Well the gremlins are back. As soon as I started the car with the remote I knew there was a problem-the brake lights came on. Stepped on the pedal and they went OFF and then as I drove the brake lights came on without touching them. Guess I'll be returning the car Wednesday to Saturn. This will be the second time for this problem-going to have to talk to the manager and discuss the Lemon Law with him. I'll keep you updated.
• madauraownermadauraowner Member Posts: 7
I am so sorry...but I have a feeling my brake lights will be back on also. Have you tried calling Saturn National Assistance line? If not, it might be wise to start a case with them. Let me provide you with the number. 1-866-557-6000. Get them involved now, even if you are going to file a Lemon Law case. I got my car out on Friday and they said they replaced the brake module sensor? I just have this eery feeling this is not over. Let me know what happens.

Wow, hearing all these issues with the 2007 Saturn, I was reluctant to write, not wanting to bring any issues to vehicle :P
Back to reality now. The only issue I had was the steering shaft, which I thought nothing of it at first, until I mentioned it to them, and also I have been experiencing a very foul odor coming through my air vents when my air condition is on, and sometimes when not. The first time I took it in, they sprayed(I'm guessing) some sort of cleanser in the vents. It lasted all of the week. So about a month later, I took it back and told this this is a major problem because now I am experiencing headaches driving this car and this is not going to be tolerated. They kept my car for 4 days after the tech actually smelled the odor. They say they took my dash out to cleanse the area. My steering shaft was replaced also. it has been twoo weeks now and the smell (clean detergenty) is now starting to fade. I am just hoping that horrible smell does not come back. as far as my steering. I noticed right off the steerring is not as loose. More snug/tight. I kind of like it this way.

I am having the same issue!

Hi
I have a 2007 Saturn Aura and I have recently noticed the exact same issue with my brake lights. I just had the shifting linkage replaced as that busted in my driveway when I put it in park. Now I have noticed the brake lights being on while I am driving at night and going off when I brake (I know it is happening during the day too) - also when at a stop sign or red light if I slam the brake pedal in farther the brake lights go back on. The cruise control has also stopped working which makes me think it is part of a bigger problem. I have just over 37,000 miles (I know) on the car - wondering if I should consider the extended warranty. It seems as though we might be able to get a recall on the cars if there are enough of these problems - I do feel dangerous when there are cars behind me. I am going to call the Assistance line you mentioned but I don't want to take it back to the dealership as it will cost me a ton more being out of warranty and it is about 30 miles from where I live, work, and go to school.

Any suggestions on getting something more from our collective problems?

i have a 07 EX V6. It has been @ my local dealership for 24 business days now. This is a squeak/light grind when turning at all speeds. So far they have replaced a coil inside the column and then several other componets from what i have been told. I talked to the service manager today. and he told me that cannot replace any more parts. they have tried it all. he can duplicate the noise now more than ever. there have been 2 saturn techs out and none of them can figure this out. has anyone had this problem or anything close to it? I have been in 2 different loaners now and neither one have the amenities that my car has. i am over all pleased with car with exception of the several trips back for misc. noises. can anyone help me with this. if there is a service rep that reads this, please give some feedback. this will be a lemon in 6 more business days. i wonder what GM will do in their present economic state if it make it that far

Hi, I just bought an 07 aura XE in the fall. During the cold months( -5C or colder) when I start it the power steering pump makes a whinning noise but goes away after 10-15 minutes once the car has warmed up. It doesn't do it in the warm months. Anybody out there with the same problem or is this a rare one. How did they fix it? It is a nice car though. I'd appreciate any info. Thanks

My wife and I have experienced both the problems that you describe and wanted to know what you did to fix them. PLEASE PLEASE respond.
1) We have had issues with the car starting and eventually changed out the battery just like you did. The issue hasn't happened since BUT I really doubt that solved the issue.

2) The break lights come on spirraticlly and go off when you hit the breaks. This is my wife's car and I am very worried about her driving it like this on the freeway. HOW DID YOU FIX THIS?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
You won't believe this BUT I just had to bring my car back for this problem again. Since Saturn is no more I had the warranty work done by a Chevy dealer who is a Saturn Service Provider. I brought the car in to address the service air bag message and they installed the "inflatable restraint passenger seat suppression module" part #15780668. That is supposed to fix that problem.
The brakes were acting up again and they first replaced the "brake and accelerator pedal adjuster switch" part #22666955 but I still had some brake light problems. I brought the car back and they "inspect connector C2 at the (BCM) body control module as per bulletin 08-05-22-009B. R&R connector, clean terminals, add dielectric grease and recheck operation." The brake lights appear to be functioning properly now. I have read elsewhere about the dielectric grease and that seems to do the trick. Good Luck on fixing your Saturn gremlins. Don

I have had my Saturn since 2007 and just love my car, but for a while now everytime I trun my wheel I feel and hear this grinding or clunking noise. Now Saturn isn't working on Saturns anymore. I was told to call GM and when I called GM they told me to call Pontiac for service repairs. I took my car in to get new tires (the Good Yeartires that were factory seperated on 2 of my tires) and the tire guy told me there was a silent recall on a part that would make that noise. Apparently they didn't grease it and it is just rubbing together when I turn the wheel. Problem is I can't figure out who to take my car to fix this issue and now it isn't under warranty anymore!

Hello Randiroo,
I apologize that you are experiencing a concern with your vehicle. You should take the vehicle back to the dealership that put the tires on your vehicle. Tell them what is going on and go from there. If you have any further questions please let me know. Thank you,

Hi Mariah,

Thanks for the response. I bought my car at the Saturn dealership in Knoxville, TN and I live in Jacksonville, FL now so that isn't applicable. I called the Saturn dealership in town and they told me they aren't servicing Saturns anymore and I need to call GM. I called GM and they told me they weren't licensed to work on Saturns yet and to call Pontiac. So I am a bit flusttered! I am more concerned with the popping noise coming from my steering now and hoping that my other tires don't seperate on me anytime soon.

Sincerely,
Randi

I purchased my 07 Aura XR that was actually a program car driven by a GM executive through 15k miles back in January 2008. After driving the car for a few months, I noticed a foul smell coming from the air conditioner. It was dissipate after running for a few minutes and after taking it my then-Saturn dealer, I was told there was a technical service bulletin about the smell and they cleaned up vents with that canned substance you see sold at NAPA Auto Parts which I could have easily done.

A month later, the smell came back. In June of that year after we generally get a lot of rain in Georgia, I noticed this sloshing sound in the driver's side door. The door was completely filled with water!!! The weather stripping at the bottom did not meet up with the drain holes so after readjusting that, the water came flowing out. After that, I thought nothing of a water problem at all.

In the past every now and again, I would be bopping along on the highway, then all of a sudden, the CHECK ENGINE and REDUCED ENG PWR messages appeared on the driver information console. The first time it happened early last year in 2009, I pulled over and restarted the car. That didn't make the message go away. I had to do the following to get it to clear:
-Turn off the car
-Open the door
-Close the door
-Restart the car

Then it was good for a few minutes. But again, came right back on. So I took it in for service. They couldn't reproduce the problem and I couldn't either, so the issue was dropped mysteriously. Shortly after that, I had called OnStar numerous times to jumpstart the car for me since the battery was not holding charge for some reason. I finally broke down and purchased a new battery from AutoZone for around $100 with an eight year warranty.

Besides the major brake problems of which I've spent over $800 for already at two dealerships (the former Saturn of Decatur for the front brakes $300 and Jim Ellis Chevy in Chamblee for the rear pads $450), I hadn't had many issues. The lingering smell of A/C had somewhat gone away or maybe I wasn't as bothered by it since owning the car for an extended period of time.

Which brings us to around the early part of this year. The SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT would periodically come on while I was driving and lately, it was getting worse and worse since my last oil change in June 2010. I figured, I'll mention it the next time I go in for service in late October when the temperature falls in Georgia.

On my way home from work on Tuesday night, I was driving down I-85 and all of the a sudden received several error messages in the DIC:
-SERVICE TRACTION
-ENG PWR REDUCED

The check engine and TC-disabled indicators remained lit.

After getting off at an exit and catching a red light, I did what I did in the past to get full power back:
-Turn off the car
-Open the door
-Close the door
-Restart the car

But guess what? That didn't work at all!
So I limped the rest of the way home on what felt like two-cylinders.

After getting back home, I went back out to the car to check again. The lights were still on but I couldn't hear any thing that sounded mechanically awry.

The next morning, when pulling out of the driveway, I called OnStar for a diagnostics check. They indicated to me that the throttle control module was near failure and I shouldn't be driving the car. I said Jim Ellis is right around the corner for me and took it there for service.

Some of the service personnel transferred from the former Saturn of Decatur and that was a somewhat relief since they know these cars better than anybody. After waiting for about an hour, I was informed I had leak underneath the driver's side panel that was pouring water into the cabin under the carpet. Several electrical control modules were near failure because of the water intrusion. The carpet was pulled up and you could see mold growth all underneath the front seat which might extend to the rear.

The total to fix it? Oh boy, $1,000. :surprise:

A loaner car was provided and I picked it up Friday.

After researching this issue some, the part number in question for the tube extension "25930220" is found in Google for other recalled (Sunroof Water Leak Recall) GM vehicles like the Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook and the GMC Acadia.
Detailed in this:
http://ww2.justanswer.de/uploads/BOBCAT5544/2009-06-04_212855_2007_outlook_08207- a.pdf

But NO WHERE IN SIGHT IS THE Saturn Aura.

The other major part was the Module Kit for the Airbag sensors and I believe the throttle control module (Part No. 15780668) at $525.15, just for the part.

I'm livid
So much so I probably won't buy another GM car ever.
Let me clarify, I have no problem with the service I've been provided up to this point. Why should I have to pay for something that is clearly a defect in the design of so many cars in GM's stable?

Granted, GM went through bankruptcy and undoubtedly thinks that because Saturn was discontinued, there have no obligation to "fix" this problem by issuing a recall which is not only absurd, but morally reprehensible.

So after investigating underneath the driver's carpet Saturday afternoon to see if it was dry and free of mold proved to be neither on both counts as promised. However, I do believe that Jim Ellis did at least stop the water from coming through.

Mold has developed pretty extensively all over the foam. I'm not sure if it extends to the backseat as that seems like a chore to access. But I did check the front passenger side and that was dry as a bone with just a hint of mold near the door.

After cutting thin layers of foam that contained mold, I doused Lysol on both areas after letting the front driver side dry out in the sun for about three hours. I also placed a terry cloth underneath the carpet to let the spray on foam dry completely of all moisture. After putting everything together, I placed another terry cloth underneath the brake/accelerator pedals then washed the car to see if any water entered the cabin. I saw no indicator that it did and that was a relief.

Do you figure out what was causing the breaking issue? I have 2007 Saturn Aura with 40k and I was driving last night and hit my breaks to avoid a deer. After that my break lights were screwed up and would just randomly come on until I would hit the pedal at that point they would turn off. After about 15 minutes of driving they must have reset themselves because they are working fine now.

This info in my previous post worked. I think it was mainly the grease:

The brakes were acting up again and they first replaced the "brake and accelerator pedal adjuster switch" part #22666955 but I still had some brake light problems. I brought the car back and they "inspect connector C2 at the (BCM) body control module as per bulletin 08-05-22-009B. R&R connector, clean terminals, add dielectric grease and recheck operation." I too have a 2007 Saturn Aura XE. I just purchased mine from a dealership and then car had just come off a 3 yr lease. I was given a copy of the service records and the car had no records other than routine oil changes. I only owned the car for about a week when I started having problems with what I thought was the transmission. It would make a shudder type feeling when I was going up a hill at about 55-60 mph..took it to the shop, they said they couldnt duplicate the problem and sent me on my way.

Now I have problems with the brake lights coming on randomly and they wont go off till I apply the brakes and then they will shut off.
However, they will just come back on by themselves a few minutes later. And now recently I started having problems with my front speakers..My passenger front speakers do not work and if I hit bumps, turn any accessories on, slam doors etc..the speakers with make popping/crackly sounds and go out.

We have replaced the brake light sensor switch (not sure exactly the name-my dad replaced it) and this did not fix the problem at all. Dealership says there is nothing they can do since all I have left is the balance of the factory 5 yr/100K mi powertrain left...

I can't help but wonder if all these problems are tied into the same issue since I can't imagine I should be having all these problems with a car that has 50K miles on it and is only 3 yrs old.

I love this car and hate the idea of having to get rid of it already since I just bought it, but if something isnt fixed soon I will be getting it replaced..and not with another Saturn. I have a two year old son and I just can't have a vehicle that is a danger to him and myself.

My 2008 Saturn Aura has has a squeek/rubbing noise in the lower steering column when I turn either way since I bought it with 44mil in Feb 2010 this year. A Chevy service rep told me there was a GM service bulliten on a lower lube gasket malfunction... and then I was told the gasket could not be repaied without changing out the whole lower gear steering package (for $900). A local auto repair place said they thought it was the power steering belt and replaced it..no luck..it's still there. It seems to get worse as the engine warms up. I'm going to try an authorized GM Saturn repair place next. Is there any "silent" recall notice on the issue as I read on one of three Saturn blogs??

Rochester NY or MN??
I've had the problem checked by three dealerships. They said it's a steering gear at the lower end of the shaft that has to be replaced as "a unit"..not just the gear. Per GM, since it is not considered a "saftey issue" (you can still steer as it goes bad) it is not a recall items, and there is no waranty coverage after 36,000 miles. I guess it's just another one of the "cheapest bidder to make the part" that GM has always had problems with (like Toyota). The noise get worse as the engine/car warms up, so it hasn't been too bad this winter. Several of the techs said the gear system had a bad gasket that dried up too early, hense the noise now. I've been told by all three that the repair bill will be about $900.

Wow.. Christina at SocialmediaGM.com reviewed my posting (unknown to me) concerning the steering malfunction and worked with GM to allow me to fix the problems thru the dealer with a $500 max bill (deductable). We had the rack and pinion gear assembly replaced today, which included a front end alignment (which would have been over a Grand), and the steering now functions like velvet. The gears were shot, which seems strange for only 50,000 miles. I hope the replacent assembly lasts longer than the old one. Good luck to all of you with the same problem....and thanks again to the NEW GM for being proactive...what a change from the old GM!!!

Our 2007 Aura has had an ongoing issue with passenger airbag. At first, "service air bag" readout appeared at 51,673 miles. We took car to dealership and they "calibrated" air bag and charged us 90.00. Since then, passenger air bag reads "off" periodically and for no apparent reason, while car is being driven. Has been calibrated at least twice and we now are told by Chevrolet dealership Saturn mechanic that a new module needs to be installed at a price of around 800.00. This problem has caused my husband and myself untold anxiety, because when the "off" signal comes on or the "Service Air Bag" reads out, in a crash, the passenger airbag would not deploy. Falling out of love with the Aura!

Christina-
I hope you can help. Because of our safety concerns regarding the air bag issue affecting our 2007 Saturn Aura, we went to Gordon Chevrolet in Augusta Georgia and had replacement of the PPS sensor Module and re-programming performed. Cost was $890.13 to us. I feel that we should not have to bear the cost of repairing such a basic safety flaw. I read online of numerous other Saturn Aura owners who had the same or similar problems. Why isn't this a recall?
We would like a refund from GM for this charge.
Thank you,
2catshouse

Still waiting to hear from GM Customer service about my 2007 Saturn Aura's air bag problem/repair :(
We had it repaired because we plan to take it on a long trip soon.
This issue should constitute a recall. Where is the list of recalls on this model?

I will try to keep this short... I bought a used 07' Aura XR (18" rims) with 30,000 miles on it a few weeks ago and I assumed that the Vibration I was feeling in the steering wheel at 60mph + speeds was the low tread on the tires and the 1 bent rim.

I went out last week and bought 4 Goodyear's and had them put the bent rim on the rear of the vehicle. (they said the bent rim wasn't that bad and since it was on the rear, it should be fine.

Took it out on the freeway and the same vibration is STILL there! IT'S in the steering wheel, the seats, and even the dash. SO I had them put on 4 brand new Uniroyal Tiger Paws. That same vibration is still everywhere once I hit 60 + mph. (not at speeds below)

The brake pads and rotors need to be replaced (front & rear) so I am going to try that next EVEN though the vibration happens when I am not braking. A guy at the tire shop told me that the rotors could be out of round???

Any ideas anyone??? If replacing the pads/rotors does not do it, it's time to go back to the dealership that I bought it from.

I know that it's not a Cadillac but really???

Ideas???

Thanks
