Hello everyone, looking to compare notes on some problems I'm having with my 07 Saturn Aura XR with 9,644 miles.
My Onstar stopped working so I brought the car in for service. While I was there I told them about the service ESC warning that had come on twice as well as the service air bag warning that I got once. I also mentioned the front passenger interior door handle that was peeling.
First the good news-the door trim problem is apparently common and they replaced the "faulty bezel" with a new one.
The technician diagnosed the Onstar problem and ordered the VCIM module to repair it. Part is expected within the week.
Technician recalibrated the brake pedal position sensor to address the service ESC code. Approximately 25 minutes and 15 miles after leaving Saturn the "service ESC-ESC OFF" and trouble light displayed. So much for that "fix".
Technician found code B0088 as a 1st step in diagnosing the service air bag code. Tech performed recalibration of the inflatable module. Keep my fingers crossed on that one.
Finally, I start my car tonight and the brake lights stay on. I tap the brake pedal and nothing happens-brake lights stay on. Is this connected to the brake pedal position calibration??
All comments and advice welcome.
Thanks,
Don
PS. I bought the Saturn to replace my 05Malibu that was totalled.

Back to reality now. The only issue I had was the steering shaft, which I thought nothing of it at first, until I mentioned it to them, and also I have been experiencing a very foul odor coming through my air vents when my air condition is on, and sometimes when not. The first time I took it in, they sprayed(I'm guessing) some sort of cleanser in the vents. It lasted all of the week. So about a month later, I took it back and told this this is a major problem because now I am experiencing headaches driving this car and this is not going to be tolerated. They kept my car for 4 days after the tech actually smelled the odor. They say they took my dash out to cleanse the area. My steering shaft was replaced also. it has been twoo weeks now and the smell (clean detergenty) is now starting to fade. I am just hoping that horrible smell does not come back. as far as my steering. I noticed right off the steerring is not as loose. More snug/tight. I kind of like it this way.
Hi
I have a 2007 Saturn Aura and I have recently noticed the exact same issue with my brake lights. I just had the shifting linkage replaced as that busted in my driveway when I put it in park. Now I have noticed the brake lights being on while I am driving at night and going off when I brake (I know it is happening during the day too) - also when at a stop sign or red light if I slam the brake pedal in farther the brake lights go back on. The cruise control has also stopped working which makes me think it is part of a bigger problem. I have just over 37,000 miles (I know) on the car - wondering if I should consider the extended warranty. It seems as though we might be able to get a recall on the cars if there are enough of these problems - I do feel dangerous when there are cars behind me. I am going to call the Assistance line you mentioned but I don't want to take it back to the dealership as it will cost me a ton more being out of warranty and it is about 30 miles from where I live, work, and go to school.
Any suggestions on getting something more from our collective problems?
1) We have had issues with the car starting and eventually changed out the battery just like you did. The issue hasn't happened since BUT I really doubt that solved the issue.
2) The break lights come on spirraticlly and go off when you hit the breaks. This is my wife's car and I am very worried about her driving it like this on the freeway. HOW DID YOU FIX THIS?
Thanks,
Steve

You won't believe this BUT I just had to bring my car back for this problem again. Since Saturn is no more I had the warranty work done by a Chevy dealer who is a Saturn Service Provider. I brought the car in to address the service air bag message and they installed the "inflatable restraint passenger seat suppression module" part #15780668. That is supposed to fix that problem.
The brakes were acting up again and they first replaced the "brake and accelerator pedal adjuster switch" part #22666955 but I still had some brake light problems. I brought the car back and they "inspect connector C2 at the (BCM) body control module as per bulletin 08-05-22-009B. R&R connector, clean terminals, add dielectric grease and recheck operation." The brake lights appear to be functioning properly now. I have read elsewhere about the dielectric grease and that seems to do the trick. Good Luck on fixing your Saturn gremlins. Don
I apologize that you are experiencing a concern with your vehicle. You should take the vehicle back to the dealership that put the tires on your vehicle. Tell them what is going on and go from there. If you have any further questions please let me know. Thank you,

Thanks for the response. I bought my car at the Saturn dealership in Knoxville, TN and I live in Jacksonville, FL now so that isn't applicable. I called the Saturn dealership in town and they told me they aren't servicing Saturns anymore and I need to call GM. I called GM and they told me they weren't licensed to work on Saturns yet and to call Pontiac. So I am a bit flusttered! I am more concerned with the popping noise coming from my steering now and hoping that my other tires don't seperate on me anytime soon.
Sincerely,
Randi

A month later, the smell came back. In June of that year after we generally get a lot of rain in Georgia, I noticed this sloshing sound in the driver's side door. The door was completely filled with water!!! The weather stripping at the bottom did not meet up with the drain holes so after readjusting that, the water came flowing out. After that, I thought nothing of a water problem at all.
In the past every now and again, I would be bopping along on the highway, then all of a sudden, the CHECK ENGINE and REDUCED ENG PWR messages appeared on the driver information console. The first time it happened early last year in 2009, I pulled over and restarted the car. That didn't make the message go away. I had to do the following to get it to clear:
-Turn off the car
-Open the door
-Close the door
-Restart the car
Then it was good for a few minutes. But again, came right back on. So I took it in for service. They couldn't reproduce the problem and I couldn't either, so the issue was dropped mysteriously. Shortly after that, I had called OnStar numerous times to jumpstart the car for me since the battery was not holding charge for some reason. I finally broke down and purchased a new battery from AutoZone for around $100 with an eight year warranty.
Besides the major brake problems of which I've spent over $800 for already at two dealerships (the former Saturn of Decatur for the front brakes $300 and Jim Ellis Chevy in Chamblee for the rear pads $450), I hadn't had many issues. The lingering smell of A/C had somewhat gone away or maybe I wasn't as bothered by it since owning the car for an extended period of time.
Which brings us to around the early part of this year. The SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT would periodically come on while I was driving and lately, it was getting worse and worse since my last oil change in June 2010. I figured, I'll mention it the next time I go in for service in late October when the temperature falls in Georgia.
On my way home from work on Tuesday night, I was driving down I-85 and all of the a sudden received several error messages in the DIC:
-SERVICE TRACTION
-ENG PWR REDUCED
The check engine and TC-disabled indicators remained lit.
After getting off at an exit and catching a red light, I did what I did in the past to get full power back:
-Turn off the car
-Open the door
-Close the door
-Restart the car
But guess what? That didn't work at all!
So I limped the rest of the way home on what felt like two-cylinders.
After getting back home, I went back out to the car to check again. The lights were still on but I couldn't hear any thing that sounded mechanically awry.
The next morning, when pulling out of the driveway, I called OnStar for a diagnostics check. They indicated to me that the throttle control module was near failure and I shouldn't be driving the car. I said Jim Ellis is right around the corner for me and took it there for service.
Some of the service personnel transferred from the former Saturn of Decatur and that was a somewhat relief since they know these cars better than anybody. After waiting for about an hour, I was informed I had leak underneath the driver's side panel that was pouring water into the cabin under the carpet. Several electrical control modules were near failure because of the water intrusion. The carpet was pulled up and you could see mold growth all underneath the front seat which might extend to the rear.
The total to fix it? Oh boy, $1,000. :surprise:
A loaner car was provided and I picked it up Friday.
After researching this issue some, the part number in question for the tube extension "25930220" is found in Google for other recalled (Sunroof Water Leak Recall) GM vehicles like the Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook and the GMC Acadia.
Detailed in this:
http://ww2.justanswer.de/uploads/BOBCAT5544/2009-06-04_212855_2007_outlook_08207- a.pdf
But NO WHERE IN SIGHT IS THE Saturn Aura.
The other major part was the Module Kit for the Airbag sensors and I believe the throttle control module (Part No. 15780668) at $525.15, just for the part.
I'm livid
So much so I probably won't buy another GM car ever.
Let me clarify, I have no problem with the service I've been provided up to this point. Why should I have to pay for something that is clearly a defect in the design of so many cars in GM's stable?
Granted, GM went through bankruptcy and undoubtedly thinks that because Saturn was discontinued, there have no obligation to "fix" this problem by issuing a recall which is not only absurd, but morally reprehensible.
So after investigating underneath the driver's carpet Saturday afternoon to see if it was dry and free of mold proved to be neither on both counts as promised. However, I do believe that Jim Ellis did at least stop the water from coming through.
Mold has developed pretty extensively all over the foam. I'm not sure if it extends to the backseat as that seems like a chore to access. But I did check the front passenger side and that was dry as a bone with just a hint of mold near the door.
After cutting thin layers of foam that contained mold, I doused Lysol on both areas after letting the front driver side dry out in the sun for about three hours. I also placed a terry cloth underneath the carpet to let the spray on foam dry completely of all moisture. After putting everything together, I placed another terry cloth underneath the brake/accelerator pedals then washed the car to see if any water entered the cabin. I saw no indicator that it did and that was a relief.

Now I have problems with the brake lights coming on randomly and they wont go off till I apply the brakes and then they will shut off.
However, they will just come back on by themselves a few minutes later. And now recently I started having problems with my front speakers..My passenger front speakers do not work and if I hit bumps, turn any accessories on, slam doors etc..the speakers with make popping/crackly sounds and go out.
We have replaced the brake light sensor switch (not sure exactly the name-my dad replaced it) and this did not fix the problem at all. Dealership says there is nothing they can do since all I have left is the balance of the factory 5 yr/100K mi powertrain left...
I can't help but wonder if all these problems are tied into the same issue since I can't imagine I should be having all these problems with a car that has 50K miles on it and is only 3 yrs old.
I love this car and hate the idea of having to get rid of it already since I just bought it, but if something isnt fixed soon I will be getting it replaced..and not with another Saturn. I have a two year old son and I just can't have a vehicle that is a danger to him and myself.
If you would e-mail me with your VIN I will look into recall information for you.

I've had the problem checked by three dealerships. They said it's a steering gear at the lower end of the shaft that has to be replaced as "a unit"..not just the gear. Per GM, since it is not considered a "saftey issue" (you can still steer as it goes bad) it is not a recall items, and there is no waranty coverage after 36,000 miles. I guess it's just another one of the "cheapest bidder to make the part" that GM has always had problems with (like Toyota). The noise get worse as the engine/car warms up, so it hasn't been too bad this winter. Several of the techs said the gear system had a bad gasket that dried up too early, hense the noise now. I've been told by all three that the repair bill will be about $900.
Can you please email me your VIN and complete contact information? I would like to look into this for you.

I hope you can help. Because of our safety concerns regarding the air bag issue affecting our 2007 Saturn Aura, we went to Gordon Chevrolet in Augusta Georgia and had replacement of the PPS sensor Module and re-programming performed. Cost was $890.13 to us. I feel that we should not have to bear the cost of repairing such a basic safety flaw. I read online of numerous other Saturn Aura owners who had the same or similar problems. Why isn't this a recall?
We would like a refund from GM for this charge.
Thank you,
2catshouse
Still waiting to hear from GM Customer service about my 2007 Saturn Aura's air bag problem/repair
We had it repaired because we plan to take it on a long trip soon.
This issue should constitute a recall. Where is the list of recalls on this model?

I went out last week and bought 4 Goodyear's and had them put the bent rim on the rear of the vehicle. (they said the bent rim wasn't that bad and since it was on the rear, it should be fine.
Took it out on the freeway and the same vibration is STILL there! IT'S in the steering wheel, the seats, and even the dash. SO I had them put on 4 brand new Uniroyal Tiger Paws. That same vibration is still everywhere once I hit 60 + mph. (not at speeds below)
The brake pads and rotors need to be replaced (front & rear) so I am going to try that next EVEN though the vibration happens when I am not braking. A guy at the tire shop told me that the rotors could be out of round???
Any ideas anyone??? If replacing the pads/rotors does not do it, it's time to go back to the dealership that I bought it from.
I know that it's not a Cadillac but really???
Ideas???
Thanks
I apologize for the problems you are experiencing. Please keep us posted when the issue has been taken care of.
