I am currently in the market for a new vehicle. All i have ever owned is Honda and have had amazing experiances with them. First Honda (both accords) I put 220,000 miles on before I sold it and still ran fine, didn't have the pep in it like it used to but come on, 220,000? I am currently still driving my second accord and at this point it has 156,000 miles on its and is still going strong. Now that I have a child and a growing family I need something bigger and I would hate to not get another because they have done me so good but I really don't care for the looks of the pilot and the cr-v is too small for our lifestyle ( I teach a strollering class and haul a lot since were redoing our home). I love the Acura MDX's and Im pretty set on getting one but I've been reading about transmission problems in the older models and I was wondering if that has been corrected yet or if there are any reasons why I shouldn't get this as my family vehical OR if there are any better options. Any input would be appreciated! This is so confussing!

Reviewing Comsumers Reports as to MDX transmission problems for years 06, 07 & 09 indicate a excellent grade on transmission problems, less that 1% that means that 99% had no problems. 2010 model not yet rated. The bad years were 01, 02 & 03 that had 3% problems however that leaves 97% that didn't. Statictics are on your side. I have a 2001 MDX with 246,000 mi and not problems, will probably buy a new MDX this fall.

You may want to check into consumer reports on the 2010. I have a 2010 - it drives nicely - the only thing I notice at times is slight hesitation upon acceleration - not all the time however! Otherwise, excellent on gas and decently luxurious inside, while I'm not totally a fan of the outside look - again it's dependable and over-all drives famously highway wise. All the best,

Don't know where you are getting your info but, 06 has same transmission problems as the older, I should know I have one. I've only owned the car for 8months, and has been in twice for transmission/tc...there are tons of posts on this site and others. I will never buy another Honda product. I wish I would of checked this out before I bought mine, never thought this would happen on a car that cost this much. Beware!!

Speking of the NAV systems and cost to make a DISK!!?? I mean, think about what you said. A DISK. When a tiny chip is less likely to fail they still use DISKS!? Why the heck dont these manufacturers just use the 8 inch single side floppy from 1980 if they are going to live in the past. Jeesh.

The latest Acura models - including the 2010 MDX I believe - are going away from DVD-based system and now store the map information on a hard disk. I don't know how much Acura charges to update when a new map becomes available, but no doubt it's still too much!

On a portable Garmin unit I bought a couple of years ago, I purchased lifetime map updates for $109 and have already updated the unit 3 times. I may start to bring this along as a backup when my maps in the Acura begin to get outdated.

I have a 2010 MDX and noticed shortly after getting it that the "thresholds" in the car were already getting all scratched up. It is like these are made of cheap plastic. My husband has the 2007 and his does not look like this. (and he's much rougher on a car than me!) The passenger side is awful already, and is rarely used. I will have it checked when I have my first oil change.
Other than being constitionally incapable of understanding the NAV system, I love the car. The NAV issues are related to me, I fear and not the car.

Any one else noticed this quality issue with the door thresholds?

Anyone know when the 2011 MDX will be available at the dealers, and what changes if any will be made? Specifically, I would like to see the push-button keyless ignition put on the MDX; this feature is currently on the 2010 RL and TL Acuras. And it is appearing on most new vehicles, even on less sophisticated brands like Kia and Hyundai.

    Thanks, Jake

    Jake,

I doubt there will be any changes on the 2011 since there were so many changes on the 2010. One of the reasons I purchased the 2010 is I wanted to make sure I got a KEY-IN-THE-IGNITION and NOT one of those cheap push button ignitions. I've read too many problems with them. Yes, they are on cheaper cars like you say. Give me the proven key-in-the-ignition system any day.

    Hi Cloviskid,
Regarding the push button keyless ignition, I respect your opinion in that you do not care for it; however, I have used the keyed and keyless versions on several cars and find the keyless much more convenient, and yes, safer. And in speaking to many people about this topic find that most people, by a wide margin, prefer the keyless ignition, which is now offered on most brands including Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus/Toyota, Infinity/Nissan, and of course the cheaper brands. What are your specific objections?

    Jake

Looks like Acura just released information on the 2011 MDX here: http://www.hondanews.com/categories/793/releases/5578

The only changes I saw with a quick reading was another mod to the grill. Nothing about keyless entry.

That makes my decision to get a 2010 easier, since there doesn't seem to be much to wait for.

I have a 2001 Honda Odyssey with Nav, and have some of the same frustrations with it. I thought they would have fixed that by now, 9 years later.

Don't get me wrong -- I love the Navigation system and will be getting it on my new MDX (this week?). It's very easy to use if you know the address, instructions are clear and timely, and routing usually very good.

But if I want to find the nearest Starbucks, I have to wade through a long list including their corporate center, a hunting supply store (or something like that) named Starbucks and lots more. Conversely, Google Maps on my Droid finds the closest ones immediately, and doesn't assume I might want to visit the corporate center. Google's search algorithms are just better.

You're not reading your Nav manual. You don't have to wade through a long list. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Once you get to that list, you push joystick DOWN and you can select to get them in order of distance from you.

Am I the only one who reads the manuals?

ok I just went to the acura website, and they are showing the 2011 mdx, and for sum reason the base model on 2011 is $300 over (MSRP) than the 2010 model and I can't find the diffenerce btween the both of them, can someone plz help me out here, cuz I'm lost on what to buy I really want the Tech pgk, but trying to see which one to get 2010 or 2011

Nearly every year the prices go up because production prices go up. Many times prices will go up once or twice during the year because of production price increases.

I have gone through all the literature and see absolutely NO differences between the 2010 and 2011. In fact, I don't even see that they added another color, etc.

I got the 2010 because IT has all the mid-cycle changes. Between the time I paid a $1000 deposit (May) and the time my vehicle was ready to pick up (July), the price had gone up but I got the lower price.

I am shopping for a replacement for my Lexus RX330. It is hard to beat the quality but it is soooo dull. The leading contender for its replacement is the MDX (despite its very unfortunate front end). My biggest uncertainty is the AWD system. While I understand the handling benefits, it is less clear to me how SH-AWD will handle winter weather. I live in upstate NY and its capability in snow and ice is more important than handling on clean and dry pavement. Do any of you have any experiences to share?
  • upstatedocupstatedoc Member Posts: 710
Our '07 Sport initially didn't handle as well as our '04 Touring in the snow because of the Michelin Latitudes. IMO those tires are more suited for the track. Replaced them w/ Bridgestone Turanza (?) which have much more "bite"

ok I live in NYC and there is a buzz flying around that 2012 mdx will be release around 2011 in the summer seasons, and that the 2011 mdx will only be a limited on shipping (don't see the point since someone pointed out that there were not much changes) but has no one heard that as well, cuz most of the dealers I spoke to told me, but was not suppose to say when tho

Some very convincing articles on the capabilities of the SH-AWD in the MN winter. Not all AWD systems are created equal.

Thanks Sparklelove. I have not seen this footage before. I think the 30 percent grade demonstration speaks for itself.

Your welcome, that's what made me choose the acura, for a company to do that kind of study and research on how the car will perform in crazy conditions gets my vote, now that's what I call talking the talk and walking the walk.. TAKE THAT TOYOTA.......lol :P

Hi, not sure if I'm posting in the right section (sorry if I'm not)
I am looking for a replacement stock front grille for my 2010 Acura MDX.
I want to paint it black, but I am leasing mine and don't want to paint something that's not mine.
Does anybody know where I could purchase a stock grille? I do not want a different style grille, I want the same design as stock.
    Thanks in advance.

This link is for the base model grill.
If the link is not allowed by this forum try using a search engine with the term Acura parts.
    Looks like about $150.

Hoping for some help, for a first time used car buyer.

I am looking at a used 2007 MDX from a certified dealer. The price is very reasonable, but there is a small ding on front bumper, and a fe scratches throughout, and on back bumper....

Is this normal to expect for certified used?
  • JBaumgartJBaumgart Member Posts: 890
Assuming you can agree on what you think is a good price, I'd make an offer conditional on the dealer agreeing to do the needed body work.

You should only purchase with a surety in your mind of a driveline failure at least every 40-50,000 miles.

My husband and I got so tired of our Audi, we are thinking to buy a new MDX. is end of year a really good time to buy? we are traveling overseas this Saturday, will be back on the 30th. If we buy it in January, would the price much higher?
We live in bay area, California.
How much are we expecting to pay? My husband will probably have it fully loaded with all the nice features.

This is my first time on this website, any input would be appreciated--- BTW, both my husband and I know nothing about cars and price and deals. I know the dealers would love us, but this time I really want to make sure we will not be ripped too much:)
