well i traded my terrain in for a traverse. i was after the awd & they could not find a awd terrain within 500 miles. the traverse is bigger & more roomy. i do miss the sunroof & heated seats which the terrain had. also not as many blind spots as terrain. i also miss the red lighting in the terrain at night.
Yes, we had negative equity, so we rolled it in to the payment. You can work that out with the dealership. It would depend on how good your credit is and what you owe on your trade in as to whether or not they can do it for you.
We've now had our 4 cylinder SE-1 for over 2 months. My wife is the primary driver and its mostly around town in Dallas. She's been getting between 20 and 22 mpg according to the mpg display on the dash. However, don't trust the display because it won't zero out. When you fill up and try to clear it, it goes back to the average for the previous tank, and then according to the service mgr. adjusts from there. That doesn't seem right. Calculated a couple tanks the old fashioned way and the results were several mpg less than the display. When we have the time will try to get this resolved with the dealership. Would like to think the display works properly. My wife took the vehicle to Houston this weekend and told me it averaged 28 mpg on the display. Not bad considering she has a major lead foot. Probably going about 85 most of the way. The seats could be a deal breaker for some of you. Ours are cloth. They're so deeply contoured and "ergonomically" designed that they are difficult to get comfortable in. They are on the firm side and you can feel the design contours in them on your tush if you don't get it just right. My wife said she couldn't find a comfortable seating position on the drive down to Houston. Made her back sore. The deep contour sort of forces you down into an almost slouch position. She drives with the seats moved up (not forward) to the highest position. She's short and likes the command of the road view from up there. I move the seat down to its almost lowest position. Creates a problem with my elbow hitting the center console because the console it so high. Have to move the seat back up so that my right elbow just clears the console. You still feel like you're sitting down in a hole. Will be a personal preference for you new buyers out there. Also, because of the deep contours you kind of have to slide up and over to get out. I always hit my left foot and the drivers door storage bin as a result. No biggie, but it scuffs up the door down there. Bottom line is the seats will be very much a personal preference for you new buyers.
Other than the mpg display and the seats, we love the vehicle. The 4 cylinder has plenty of pep (in the non-eco mode) for our purposes. Only time you know its a 4 is when you're merging onto the highway because you can hear it working hard, but it still gets up to speed quickly. Other than that its very quiet and comfortable. Gets decent gas mileage (but not as good as advertised) and we love the look inside and out. Very good fit and finish. Back seats have an incredible amount of room and are comfortable. We've had to haul some furniture and other bigger items and it worked out great with the back seats down. The overall size of the vehicle seems just right for us. Not to big (and we had a Tahoe before) and not to small (we traded in an HHR-way to small). I think most people will like the red ambient interior lighting. Oh, and the cup holders work great for all sized drinks. That was a huge issue in the HHR. Another small thing we've noticed is that the AC doesn't cool you down as quickly as either the Tahoe or the HHR because the vents are smaller. Haven't had it in the real Texas heat yet, so we'll see.
So, do I give it an unqualified thumbs up? No. Do like it? Yes. If the seats were more comfortable and less contoured I think I could recommend it to anyone. As it is, it will depend on if the seating works for you.
I have a new 2010 2.4 GMC Terrain with a loud clicking noise under the hood. GMC has a bulletin on this. It is caused by the electric fuel pump. It is very noticeable. I am waiting on a call from GMC to see if they can fix this. Has anyone else noticed this sound?
After sealing it, 1 week later it started leaking again. they preformed some tests and found i had a porous engine. 10 days go by and i had a new engine. yea! it's been 2,000 miles since then and no problems. I still love this car and its employees (they were a great help).
Wow, a porous engine? Whatever that is, it's not to reassuring GM has any quality control going. Stories like this make me nervous about even thinking of going back to GM.
i have the slt2 and it's my first new car at the age of 25. i was super excited and then it leaked, not once but 3 times. i got a new engine and a years worth of free service on parts and labor. i've been reading the messages on this forum and i have not encountered any rattling and only great gas mileage on the v6, i have not gotten stuck in the snow, automatic start is a great feature.
Already have made the suggestion to GMC to put another weather strip on the bottom of each door just below the drain holes for the inside of the doors. (Idea #26341). There is a mud and slush buildup there that can be greatly helped by putting a 3/8" (w) x 1/4" (h) piece of weather tape at the bottom of each door that will seal up against the larger rubber molding that already is on the body of the car below each door opening.
The wraping of the doors under the car keeps mud from getting on pants when getting in and out was a good idea. But there is a mud and slush buildup that occurs at the bottom of each door that an additional weather strip can help prevent. You will see it when you open your doors and look at the very bottom.
In addition to making a better cleaner appearance, in the long run it will help stop rust and paint loss due to exposure.
You can try putting on some weather stipping yourself. The best fit will be up just a little and yet below the drain holes.
Yes Mike I have heard that same noise under my hood we also have a Terrian 2010 2.4 GMC.I have not told GM about it as of now.I well inform them of that . Peter
Update with our car had us not only a louder tapping than others but we had fuel dripping on the output side of the HP pump. Working with the dealer service mgr and the region rep we got the whole pump assembly replaced. While we still have the tapping sound (high pressure pump noise) it is much softer than before. It also solved the fuel line leak. Due to the direct injection we will all have some tapping noise. We are ok with the car now.
Ours is an 2.4. The tapping sound comes from the high pressure pump under the hood ( in front to the right center). Ours was very loud, however once they replaced the whole pump assembly because of the fuel leak, it is not a loud as before.
Your service rep can provide you with the bulltin. Have them compare your car to another 2.4 for the sound. Once ours was changed, we compared and we were much better than the brand new one. Before we were louder. There is 600 lbs of pressure coming out of the pump. Best of luck!
I finally stopped to check out a Terrain at my local dealer. The first thing I do is get in and turn the engine on. Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. tap, it sounded like one of my old rust buckets with bad valve tappets. I hadn't heard that sound in many years. It also sounded like an electric fuel pump I had on an old Datsun 240z. I turned to the sales man and asked hm if was the fuel pump. He said no that was the 4 cyl and how it was designed! I turned off the motor and thanked him and left. There is no way I'm buying a new veihcle that sounds like it needs a tuneup off the show room floor! Besides they weren't dealing, all I got was, this is their best seller and there are no deals at this time. Good luck GM.
You won't with the windows closed and the stereo on going down the highway.
Try turning it on in the driveway with the windows down before you move. You can hear the tapping. Maybe I'm being over sensitive but I never heard the tapping noise on my other recent vehicles. It's just not acceptable to me.
The 2010 GMC Terrain I have has all wheel drive with Stabilitrak. .
I was pretty impressed with the combination of the two together –all wheel drive and Stabilitrak.
Driving back on the interstate accross SD run into 200 miles of 40 MPH cross winds - ice sheet on the road with blowing and drifting snow. Semi’s in the ditch along with an estimate of 30 – 50 cars including SUV’s and 4 wheel drives. I watched them flying into the ditch spinning around with loss of rear end traction. Once they lost traction with the rear end the wind would send them flying. 4 wheel drives without rear end posi track would loose rear end traction and wind up sideways and then in the ditch.
I sailed right along and passed everything in sight including a HP who was crawling along. I would pretty impressed with how the setup worked.
Mine is the V6. Gas mileage has been great so far. Of course everything depends on load, speed and wind. Best 100 miles is 26.5 best 300 miles is 25.4 and around town it gets 21. So far I'm pretty happy with the car.
I love our 6 cyl, FWD, had it since last November & am averaging 9.4l/100km (25 US mpg) according to the dic,but using efficient mileage driving techniques. The only problem is the rear defroster is not working, anyone know if this is part of the defroster recall?
Not sure, they didn't have a v6 on the lot the day I was there. Not interested in a v6 in this vehicle anyway, I'm after the best fuel economy. 32mpg was impressive for this size.
The noise is more pronounced in the 2.4. Some are very loud and some are ok. You will always have some because of the 600lbs of pressure coming out of the HP fuel pump.
I have not seen the 32 mpg. Around town and some hwy miles I have been getting 26 to 28.5 with the ECO on. Don't know anyone making the 32 mark.
Both of these cars have been on my test-drive list. For those of you who have recently bought a Terrain, did you also consider the Equinox? Since the two are so similar, what made you decide on one over the other?
Just curious as I keep researching various possibilities for my next car.
Just purchased my Terrain V6 (SLT-2) in February...have a little over 800 miles on it. In addition to hearing the tapping, am hearing a couple of other unusual noises. Once you put the car in drive and start going, as soon as it hits 10 mph there is a clicking noise coming from the left rear. Does this every time. Also, to me, sounds like something loose in the under carriage..between a knocking and a groaning sound. Only hear it at lower speeds. Has anyone else experienced this? I am female so hate to run back to the dealer unless I can discuss this with some kind of knowledge as to what I am dealing with.
Other than the above, so far love the car. Thanks for any input.
Hello, I am from GM Customer Service. If you are hearing strange noises then I would take the vehicle to the dealership to have it diagnosed. If you are hearing a knocking noise I would get the vehicle checked to be certain. That way you don't have to worry about it. Thank you, Mariah GM Customer Service
I took my car in for the knocking noise at less than 1,000 miles. I was told by my dealer that it was the suspension system "adjusting" to the road! This is absolutely the noisiest car I have ever driven. I am so disappointed because I didn't hear any of the noises when we test drove the cars. Live and learn, I guess. Doubt that this car will be a "keeper".
What's your zip code? Use Edmund's or Kbb's web site to search. Somehow people go to Chevy's showroom for Equinox more than GMC's Terrain. Do you think Terrain has bad PR/marketing group?
31605. Some show up on the internet dealer inventory, but when I call or drive by, poof, zip. I think they are trying to move all those big Suv's they have stock piled B4 they begin stocking Terrains. My 2cents
Stop in the dealers and ask. We purchased a 2010 Terrain in late December. Only had two to select from. My dealer has recently told me the Terrains and Equinox are sold ahead of time or as soon as they arrive at dealer. I suggest placing an order for the Terrain you want. There are no deals.
Here ae some notes from other posters I have read elsewhere to consider.
The Equinox and Terrain are assembled in Canada in the same plant. They allocate roughly 75% to the Equiinox and 25% the Terrain. They supposedly added a third shift but delivery times haven't seemed to have changed.
The Equinox/Terrain are best sellers, dealerships can sell all they can get their hands on. Most being delivered are already sold by by order.
The 2010 model year production may have been stopped for the 2011 changeover.
I was told 30 days ago by the local GMC dealer that he could not order 2010 Terrains only 2011 and they are not available. I'm 75 and owned more vechiles than I can remember. I do remember those I pre-ordered and never again. If I cannot touch it, smell it and drive it I do not buy. Thanks but no thanks for who ever suggested I pre-order!
Just to pass along a little info about the tapping sound that some of you are hearing.
Both the I4 and the V6 are direct injected and at idle the fuel pressure runs around 1200 + psi. Most cars have the injectors placed in the intake track and idle at 30 to 50 psi, but in a motor that uses direct injection the injectors are place so they fire directly into the combustion chamber. From what I have seen the V6 get sound dampers on the injectors but the I4 does not.
You all should hear my 2008 Cobalt SS with the Turbo Charged LNF 2.0, at idle the pressure is closer to 1600 psi and the injectors are really loud.
I am going to start looking for a Terrain soon, hope I can find one.

Any harm caused by this or is it just annoying?
Where is the GMC bulletin you mentioned?

I am going to call my dealer. Will let you know what service department tells me.
I have never used mm.
However, I would also like to see a better explanation of the functions than the manual offers.
