Auburnblu, this vehicle definitely has 3.9% to 5.9% financing available on it right now, but the only Consumer Cash that I know of on 2000 Ford F-Series pickups is $1,000 on F-650 and F-750 models. Perhaps the radio advertisement was referring to left-over 1999 models, there is some cash out there on those. Ford also has Dealer Cash on these trucks. It is possible that some local Ford dealer is advertising the dealer cash. I suggest that you pay a visit to the Edmunds.com incentives page. There you can take a look at the latest Ford incentives. Click here to go to that area of this site: Edmunds.com Incentives Page. Please feel free to come back and speak with me if you have any specific questions about the information listed there.

    Hello,

Does anybody have the latest rebate details for the Chevrolet Prizm? Edmund's Current Incentives and Rebates dated 12/27/99 list a $1500.00 rebate for the 2000 Chevy Prizm which expires on 01/03/2000.

How often is Edmund's rebate list updated?

I expect to take delivery of a factory-ordered 2000 Chevy Prizm sometime around the middle of the month. I'm quite anxious to find out if the rebate is extended....

    Thanks very much in advance...

Does anybody know what the rebate/incentive is for the 4dr 2000 Explorer? Edmunds indicates a $1000 incentive but when I called Ford customer service they said there are no incentives/rebates for my area(Albany,NY).
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Meshuga139, the current Chevrolet incentives on many vehicles run through today. General Motors will distribute the information on their new incentives to its dealerships tomorrow. We will probably be able to compile and upload all of the new info by some time late this week or early next week. Please check our incentives page then for an update.

Dep5, there is a big difference between dealer cash and consumer cash. Consumer cash is money that manufacturers provide to consumers on vehicles that they want everyone to know about. On the other hand, dealer cash is money provided by the manufacturer directly to the dealership to use as they please. They can keep all of it, part of it, or use all of it to subsidize a deal if they choose to. Dealerships and manufacturers really do not want the general public to know about dealer cash and they usually will not disclose any information about it. The $1,000 on the 2000 Ford Explorer that you are referring to is dealer cash, not consumer cash. That is why Ford would not confirm its existence.

    Car_man or whoever:

Can you get the consumer cash (rebate) on program vehicles. I am looking to purchase a 99 or 00 chevrolet prizm. The dealer has a 99 with 11,500 miles on it that was never titled privately. He stated they have a GM title? Can you get the current rebate ($2000) on this vehicle?
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Snitsela, new vehicle rebates are usually able to be used on demo vehicles as long as they have never been titled and are still technically "new." However, I believe that most manufacturers have mileage limits that prohibit the use of new vehicle incentives on models with high mileage. I do not know if this Prizm has too many miles on it to still be eligible for the consumer cash, but I am skeptical given its high mileage. I suggest that you ask your salesperson if this car is still eligible for any consumer incentives.

    CarMan,

I had asked the question in message #59. I just checked out Edmund's latest list of Incentives & Rebates. There is no rebate listed for the 2000 Prizm. But when I check Chevrolet's website, a rebate of $1000 expiring on 01/14/00 is listed.

Am I to assume that the Prizm rebate was inadvertently missed on Edmund's site or is the Chevrolet site in need of an update?

    Thanks for your help.

Meshuga139, we should have the most recent Chevrolet incentives available here at Edmunds.com early this week. Many of the vehicles in the Chevrolet section of the incentives page had enhanced incentives that were available through January 3rd, so that is the end date that we listed for them. As a result our server automatically deleted many of these expired programs. From January 3rd through January 14th, Chevrolet's Prizm incentive reverted to its base amount of $1,000 Consumer Cash. Chances are that GM will enhance their incentives on many models in the not so distant future, so keep an eye out for any changes.

    Carman.

Thanks so much for that clarification. I was wondering what was going on...I spoke with the folks at the Chevy dealership this weekend and they still have no idea when my car will be built or when I can expect delivery. They didn't have any current info on rebates either...

I ordered the car I want with the options and color I want, so I can only sit tight and hope for the best :) Even if the rebates are reduced, I think I'll be glad I factory ordered...

Thanks to all the folks at Edmunds for putting together such a great car buying resource. When I bought my wife's car two years ago, the info I found on Edmunds helped me save a bundle of cash :)

Has anybody heard anything about this program? Here's the item I found on USAutoNews:

    ------
GM restarts `loyalty coupons,` but says its not starting a war
    Associated Press
    1/5/00

DETROIT (AP) General Motors Corp. has reintroduced a ``loyalty coupon`` program that set off a heated battle over customer incentives among automakers in 1998.

But GM and industry analysts said Wednesday that the new coupons were meant more to shore up GM`s customer base than to start a rebate war.

GM said the $500 coupons were mailed to millions of customers who bought new GM vehicles and to potential customers who tell the company they`re interested in a GM vehicle.

The money can be used toward the purchase of a new vehicle or for extended service and warranty plans. The offer expires Feb. 29, and applies to all GM products except Saturns, Saabs, Chevrolet Corvettes, AM General Hummers and several full-size sport utility models.

GM spokesman Terry Sullivan said the coupons did not mean GM was spending more on incentives; several year-end programs, including one for employees, recently expired.

``We see it as kind of maintaining a balance. We certainly don`t see this as buying the marketplace,`` he said. ``These programs have proven to be very successful in the past. ... We`d like to continue a solid sales momentum and get a good start to 2000.``

GM`s sales were up 9 percent in 1999, but the automaker finished the year with a little more than 29 percent of the U.S. market for cars and light trucks. It was the first time since the 1920s that GM has held less than 30 percent of the market in a year without a strike.

Paul Ballew, GM`s director of industry analysis, said the company was making the moves to stay competitive, and was not a signal for a new round of price cuts.

``I don`t see it as a disconnect over what we`ve been packaging in the past year,`` he said.

Rod Lache, an industry analyst with Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown, said probably made the move only after sales started to appear sluggish toward the end of the year.

``I think they were hoping the product would sell itself, and they could gain market share without having to resort to this,`` he said. ``I don`t think it`s a significant escalation over last year.``

    -----

The article says that the coupon is for 'customers who bought new GM vehicles and to potential customers who tell the company they`re interested in a GM vehicle.'

I fall in the category of Non-GM vehicle owners who are interested in a GM vehicle. I called the Chevrolet information hotline to inquire about how I can receive one of those coupons and she said that they are for GM owners only.

Does anybody have any suggestions about where I can request one of these coupons?

    Thanks in advance...
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
    Meshuga139:

According to the exact wording of the bulletin announcing this incentive program to dealerships, this coupon will be mailed to millions of loyal GM customers and "select hand-raisers." I was intrigued by the phrase "select hand-raisers," so I did some research as to what GM meant by that statement. It turns out that it means a select group of individuals who have expressed interest in General Motors products in the past by requesting information on a product over the internet or from one of the company's 800 numbers. I really am not sure how you can get one of these coupons of you don't fall into one of the aforementioned categories. Perhaps you should consult a GM dealership on this matter. It often turns out with promotions like this one that dealerships are able to get coupons for serious customers who ask for them. It's worth a shot.

As a side note I thought that you might find it interesting that at this point word on the street is that DaimlerChrysler and Ford will not match this loyalty coupon offer.

    Carman:

Thanks for the info. I appreciate your quoting of the exact wording of the bulletin sent to the dealers. I'll mention that when the car salesman get's around to returning my call...

My salesman called yesterday and told me that the targeted production date for the vehicle I ordered is 02/28/00. That's 10 weeks from the date I ordered it! I was given no indication that it would take this long when I ordered and I was given the impression that it could take up to a month...

That leaves me in a bind. I've sold my current commuter car as of the end of this month and I need a vehicle to commute to work (100 miles round trip). Also, even if I could get a loyalty coupon, it would expire before I could take delivery of the vehicle. I don't know if there are going to be any new rebates announced on this vehicle which might run until March...

Because I put a deposit of $1000 (non-refundable) on the order, my leverage is considerably reduced. The salesman said that I would have to speak to the dealership owner to see if he would locate a vehicle for me (there was nothing in stock that I wanted) but he was doubtful that the owner would do that...He said that I'm locked in and my only option is to wait for delivery of the ordered car, take another car from stock, or forfeit the deposit...

I thought that because the car was not even built yet, there would be no problem to cancel the order and apply my deposit against another located car. The salesman claims that because the order 'is in the system' I am locked in. I can't even add any optional equipment to the original order: after my car door locks starting freezing I thought that it might be nice to add power door locks to the new car. The salesman said that it can't be done...

Thanks for all of your helpful information....I'll let you know what the dealership owner says. I think I may be stuck waiting for my car and end up missing out on any rebates/incentives/coupons and have to rent a car to get to work....

Any word on the GM lease programs yet?
I am looking to lease a 2000 Silverado 4dr when available. I was using .00235 as the money factor and a residual of 60% to see if I was in the payment ballpark. I heard these were the numbers for 99 Siverado subsidized leases.
  • badger9badger9 Member Posts: 5
I was working the phones on Saturday to get the best price I could on a new Chevrolet Lumina LS. One of the dealers asked if I owned a GM car. I told that yes, one of our cars is an old (89) full-size Jimmy. He said that if my name was on the registration, that GM would give a $500 customer-loyalty rebate. This dealership was not competitive on the Lumina price, but I started asking about the rebate at other dealerships.

The two dealerships closest to my home, both in small towns, said the rebate did not apply to me because I had not bought the Jimmy new from a dealer. All the big-city dealerships that I talked to said it didn't matter if I'd bought the car new or used, I just had to have my name on the registration. It didn't even matter that the registration showed my maiden name and not my current name, it still qualified. I was told the rebate would expire in February so I should not count on it being in effect when I took delivery if I ordered a car from the factor (8 week wait), that I'd need to buy off-the-lot to take advantage of the offer.

Ended up using the rebate to buy a loaded (everything but the sunroof) Impala LS off the lot for $155 under invoice (including ALL fees except sales tax). Kind of nice that the old, high mileage Jimmy just returned about 20% of it's value in a rebate!

Snitsela, General Motors will announce a new lease program on January 15th that is scheduled to run through April 3rd. From what I have heard, There will not be any lease rate support on any 2000 Silverado variations. If that is the case, and you still want to lease one through GMAC, you will have to pay their standard lease money factor. GMAC's standard lease rate is much higher than the one that you mentioned.

When I looked up incentives and rebates the Dodge Caravan showes a rebate of 1500 and a dealer incentive of 1500. Does this mean that I can subtract 3000 from the invoice price or are these incentives the same monies.

    Cyndi
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Cyndi, both of these incentives are correct. However, there is a difference between Consumer Cash and Dealer Cash. Consumer Cash is an incentive that manufacturers want the public to be aware of and is intended to go directly to the individual who purchases the vehicle that it is on. On the other hand, in most instances manufacturers do not reveal Dealer Cash to the public and do not want consumers to know about it. Dealer Cash is given to dealerships to use as they please. They can give all, part, or none of it to the consumer. Still, if persistent consumers can usually get dealerships to deduct the entire amount of a Dealer Cash incentive from the purchase price of their car or truck.

I'm not a GM owner, but I received the GM Loyalty Coupons. I have been talking to GM about the 2000 Sub/Yukon XL, they must of identified me that way. I'm looking for incentive/rebate programs for the purchase of a 2000 Sub/Yukon XL. The Loyalty Coupons don't work. H&R Block has has an offer, if you are receiving a refund from your taxes. Checkout www.hrblock.com/refunds

    Must be other programs?
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Carljb, thanks for bringing that incentive to everyone's attention. That is a very obscure incentive that not many people know about. For everyone who hasn't seen it, basically if you have your taxes done at an H&R Block location you can receive an anticipated rebate debit card from them that can be used at many major chains. General Motors dealerships is one of the places that you can use your H&R Block card. If you use it towards the purchase of a new GM vehicle, General Motors will give you an additional $500 off of the vehicle that you get.

Delsorbo, Nissan does not have any cash incentives on either the 1999 or 2000 Quest at this time. I can give you my opinion of the price that you are getting, but you will have to provide me with some more information first. Is the Quest that you are getting a GXE, GLE, or SE? Also, please be as descriptive as possible about the options that it has.

The information on the site is wonderful...but I know application differs between manufacturers. Anyone managed to factor in dealer incentives/holdbacks into negotiations for a 2000 Trooper (LS)? What was the bottom line? Around Louisiana, they are hard to find.
  • lfb3494lfb3494 Member Posts: 1
Ok, Car_Man, please help. Last night I was at an Isuzu dealership (in Houston) shopping for a Rodeo LS. When I asked to see the invoice, I saw the Edmund's invoice price + options that I expected, but at the bottom, they also tacked on a floorplan allowance, advertising fees, and, what I was most shocked at, a holdback fee. All of this was totaled at the bottom. The bottom figure was what they called their invoice price. When I questioned the dealer about charging me directly for the holdback (around $780), he said that he had to b/c the factory charged him for it. I told him that I understood that he got that money back later. He admitted that he did. When I said I thought he was double-dipping here, in effect charging ME for the holdback that he will get back later, he got very flustered and said that he couldn't help it, that that was what the factory charged him. I was not even trying to get the cost of the holdback deducted from the invoice price; I just thought it shouldn't be added to the invoice price that he was going to charge me (+ their 2% profit).
Am I confused here? Do I need to be ADDING the holdback percentage to Edmund's listed invoice prices to get the total invoice price of the vehicle that I will be charged for? I thought that the holdback was done behind the scenes. Is Isuzu trying to charge customers the holdback fee?
---by the way, this same salesman also told me that I couldn't get BOTH the $1750 dealer incentive AND the 0.9% interest rate (customer rebate) that Edmund's lists as being offered for the 2000 Rodeo, but that it was an either/or situation. Is that true or is this dealership just a bunch of crooks?
    Thanks!

    Car-man,
I saw an article on msnbc's web site re slow sales of some SUV's due to increases in gas prices and all the new models of SUV. The article implied that Dodge may offer rebates/incentives on 2000 Durango's beginning in April.

I thought the Durango was selling fairly well and I've never seen any rebates/incentives on the current year models. Do you have any information/speculation on whether there will be customer/dealer cash available soon on the Durango? Thanks for any info.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Lets look at first things first...The invoice...all vehicles have fees addes to the actual cost of the car...and...you'll pay for them, if you want the car. For example, advertising, holdback, financial reserve, and destination. The real cost of the car is...what it costs you...OTR (on the road) ALL of the fees listed above are legit...if you dont believe me, then just scroll to the Edmunds page on the Isuzu. A lot of people will look at the suggested 3% profit, and if theres anything above that, then you don't have a good deal...thats not right...it's what you pay for the car on the road.

As far as the low interest AND the rebate combined, they are probably right. All of the lines we work with are the same way...I'm sure that you'll figure out what is better for you...
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
lfb3494, dealer holdback is money that the dealership gets back from the manufacturer when it sells you a new vehicle. You should not have to pay for it as a separate charge. If you do then the dealership is essentially getting this money twice. All of the dealer invoice prices listed here at Edmunds.com include the holdback already.

The dealership is telling you the truth that you can have either the customer cash or the special financing, but not both.

Integra, I too have read all of the hype that high gas prices have had an effect upon SUV sales. However in my opinion that simply is not the case. Even though on average most manufacturers' inventory levels are fairly high right now, they aren't significantly higher than they were during the same period a year ago. Even if they were, it is more a result of increased production than reduced demand. Higher gasoline prices over the long run may eventually begin to take their toll on large SUV sales, but they haven't yet. Having said that, there is a tremendous amount of competition in the light truck market right now. Manufacturers have come out with a number of new trucks and have increased their production on the ones that they were already making. So, it would not surprise me if truck incentives do increase on some models in the future. In fact, Dodge recently increased its lease support on the Durango. I am not aware of any retail customer cash on this truck at this time, though.

I am about to purchase a new Toyota Corolla, and there are currently no incentives or rebates listed for it. I've noticed in the past that May tends to be a "larger than average" month for these kinds of deals. I know nobody here can "guarantee" any rebates or incentives will become available (only Toyota knows that), but can you give me any historical picture of what Toyota has done in the past? If it appears somewhat likely that they'll offer an incentive and/or rebate in May, I'll wait the 2 months to buy the car ... it's worth it to save $1000 or so. Again, I understand that there can obviously be no guarantees of any of this, but looking at some history might provide some insights I can use.
    Thanks!
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Jaboud, Toyota's incentives vary depending upon the area of the country that you purchase in. I do know that Toyota Motor Credit Corp. does have some lease support on certain 2000 Corolla models in most areas of the country. I'm not sure of they have any cash on this car, yet. I can tell you that last March Toyota had several special lease offers available, but only Dealer Cash on the Tacoma. However, Toyota did introduce $500 Dealer Cash on this car in April of last year. Given the fact that the market varies quite a bit from year to year, it is difficult to tell how relevant last year's inventives information is today. I personally doubt that Toyota will introduce any incentive as high as the $1,000 that you mentioned on this car in the near future.

I've noticed that Acura just had a customer rebate of $1000 on the Integra (expired 2/29). Since this is the final year for the current model, do you believe that they will extend the rebate (or have a better rebate later in the year)? Also, do you feel that one would be in a much better negotiating position later in the year (esp. when the all new 2001's roll out)?

Thanks in advance (esp. to Car_Man).
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Jhuang76, I don't have the latest information in front of me right now, but I believe that Acura did extend their dealer cash that was available on the 1999 Integra. It is possible that they will increase the incentives on the model in the future, but they honestly might not bother given the fact that most 1999 Integras have probably already been sold.

Generally, the later you wait to purchase a left-over vehicle the lower the price will be. However, you have to remember that even though the vehicle isn't being driven, the fact that it is getting older means that it's actually depreciating while you wait and that it will ultimately be worth less when you try to sell it.

Jhuang76, Ford has the $500 Consumer Cash and special APR program available on this car in most areas of the country right now. The Mustang is not traditionally a heavily supported vehicle in terms of cash incentives from Ford. It is hard to say for certain, but I don't anticipate them increasing the cash on this car in the immediate future.

Richcorc, I believe that the 2000 model year Ford Windstar incentives vary from $1,500 to $2,000 consumer cash depending upon the part of the country that you're in. The $2,000 dealer cash that you are referring to is only good on 1999 model Windstars.

The 1999 model year 626 is eligible for between $2,250 and $2,500 consumer cash depending upon the exact model that you purchase. Incentives can vary from area to area, but I believe that the Mazda incentives in most parts of the country should be very similar to the aforementioned amounts. Given the fact that you have already agreed to the specific price that you paid for your car and have physically taken delivery of it I have a feeling that it is going to be very difficult for you to receive any additional discount on it. You can always go back to the dealership that you purchased it from and discuss this matter with them, but they likely will not be willing to give you any money back.

    Hi Car_Man,
I wish I had found this site earlier in my "car shopping" experience. It is very informative. I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with. I haven't ordered my vehicle yet. I want to order a Dodge Grand Caravan with a conversion top. -- The chassis specs out at an invoice of $25,741 without the
conversion package and $29,241 with it. (I happened to get a hold of some faxes sent to a dealer who was checking packages and prices of several conversion companies.) -- MSRP on the chassis is $28,765 without the conversion top and
$38,350 with it. Which MSRP should I use when figuring what the holdback will be?
My other question regards the advertisement fee. If a vehicle is special ordered, is the dealership still charged an advertising fee on the invoice for that vehicle?
I goofed by stating my top price at the start and I refuse to go up on it; especially
after having read your site. Chrysler has no dealer incentive but offer a 0.9 interest rate
or $1500 rebate on that vehicle. I have made an offer of $31,500 including destination, title (37.50) and taxes ($909) (no advertisement fee). I did not ask for any of the holdback and wish to take advantage of the interest rate. I would like to know exactly what the holdback is on this vehicle so I know what ridiculous amount of money the dealer is already making never mind the $1000 more they want from me. The salesman acts like I'm robbing them.
Also, are you aware of a manufacturer to dealer incentive on the Dodge Grand Caravan? I read on post #193 (Feb. 2000) that there was a $1500 incentive at that time.
Thanks so much for your help!
    Have A Great Day!
