"2001 Altima bought used 1 year ago. Auto, 29000mi. Great condition except fo the fact that a repair shop had a $3600 accident while road testing it after an alignment. Fixed by the local Audi dealer body shop. For peace of mind am thinking of trading for another 2001 Altima as my kid likes the car. How much should I expect to pay a dealer for such a swap? Am in upstate NY."
GXE ex rental special edition. And by the way if I hadn't been so PO'd I might have had a good laugh over it.
The 427 is a good move, but some Corvette "purists" look down on engine swaps, even when it's a crime NOT to swap. The car isn't "original" any more (thankfully). The only real collectible '78 Vette was the Indy Pace Car - they seem to be pulling $10-12K in mint shape.

Car accident about a month ago. $1,800 done to the rear. 99.9% to the back bumper and inside the trunk. Trunk lid repainted and bumper cover replaced/repainted. Excellent repair job.
Thanks in advance, Mark
First one:
2001 Toyota Echo, 2dr, manual trans, am/fm/cd, green/gray, 31k, winter and summer tires, the car is in really good shape. The guy wants $8650 for it.
Second one:
2000 GMC Sierra, 1/2 ton, x-cab short bed, white/gray, SLE, 4x4, 4.8L V-8, auto, 31k, has a non matching cap on it, pwr stuff, am/fm/cd, truck is in good shape. He wants $18,500 for it.
Soooo, what do ya think?
It was almost comical, but, along with the earlier post about the Pathy with damage, got me thinking about how/when to tell people about this, adjust the price, etc.? The car is not so low mileage that it's "collectible", anyway. I'm asking mid-teens. I hate to turn people off prematurely when the body work was done so nicely.
Then there's the $1K or $2K of suspension work it needs, plus tires.......Other than that, it's a really great looking car.
Any more ideas???? And thanks in advance!
Woody

Terry can make a better guess about the value of your car if you mention such things up front.
One clue that this is highly relevant is Terry's comment about your car (post 9528):
(rroyce10:) my biggest problem with this "type" of vehicle would be, the little nice lady at the supermarket who put's a $800 scratch on my door and drops the value by $2/$3,000 for the real deal buyer.
With $12K in bodywork, the regulars here are no longer thinking "what number should we subtract?", but instead "what number should we divide by?".
Anyway, reviewing your earlier posts, you had someone "desperate to pay $16.5" (post 9516). If you can still do it, take the money. If not, tell potential buyers about the repairs before they come to see the car. Let them decide how much to offer you after they've inspected it. Personally, I'd be OK taking a lot less than $16.5.
The experts will be able to tell you more, of course.
-Mathias
a $12k accident isn't something you can't forget to mention, its a material fact about the car... its definately not something you can "forget" to mention to a prospective buyer, I wouldn't want to take that phone call from their lawyer, lol. I am thinking this is no longer a "classic BMW" but a relatively aging, high mileage european vehicle.... you will probably be very lucky to see $8-9-10k. lets see what the pros say.
There was no frame damage from the accident; the car was still totally driveable. But: fairly major damage to rear, & pass. side rear fender area. Come to think of it, I might have been better off had they declared it "totaled"(?)
Interior is very nice, as is exterior, outside of some "road rash" on front air dam. All power equip. works, knock wood. People still go bonkers when they see the car. But I get your point(s)--I've never had a car with major body damage before, so the significance of that for resale is just starting to sink in. I was under the "illusion" that because I took it to a great body shop--& it still looks great--maybe it wouldn't be a huge deal. I get your point about disclosure as well.
cheers, woody
Your case is very unfortunate, and I am glad to see you had many days of driving pleasure. I wish you luck.

color? where does it live? engine size? Need more discription man!!!
That part musta slipped your mind .l.o.l.. woooo hooo.!, $12 grand ....? - I can see it now, it's just perfect, all original all except for that little $12,000 scratch ..
The folks that purchase these vehicles, Know these vehicles .. for whatever reason, I have run across not one, but -2- 91 850Ci's in the last 6 months and They were puuuurfect and in the wrapper - except for 1 isty Bitsy scratch and that could be buffed out by 90% .. one with 31k and the other with 33k and the folks that will spend that big cash to buy them, Know "everything" about them, build dates, what time is was shipped, what port in came into, how many were built in a particular color, why it did this and that in September and why they only had 6 bun warmers in April and those Vin#'s are such, etc, etc.
I can only tell you from my own experience, if it ain't right they will know it ..
I had a guy from Birmingham AL, that drove to Florida to inspect it first (that's fine) and he was All over that thing with an Elco, turned the vehicle into the light on all 4 sides (twice), and he was smart, he wanted to see the vehicle after 5pm .. then we take it to a BMW dealer not quite in the area (that's fine too) to get the final "word", the vehicle checked out 100%, and even then, he tried to beat me up for $1,500 because there was a small scratch about the length of a cigarette pack, IF, in the right light, angle, you could see it (which he was aware of from jump street) and that was a big no .. but he did push it.
$12 grand ..? - it should have been totaled .. I dunno what to say that the others haven't covered ~ my biggest sweat would be, the guy that buys it, takes it 6 months later for the 3k oil, filter change and they drop the "bomb" on him .. next thing you know, he's in the driveway with a AK47 and an Attorney .l.o.l.. I would disclose this puppy, get as much as you can honestly get .. then go on.
$12 grand ..?

Miles are waaay low, right color inside and out, sport, all in all sounds like a nice driver all except for the - &;Trunk lid re painted and bumper cover replaced/repainted. Excellent repair < .. it's hard to say, cuz' I can't see it or feel it. 2 wks ago I was playing golf with a guy and he had 20% of the drivers side of his Jag re-painted because of vandalism (I hate kids) so he say's "I will bet lunch that you can't see were they had to touch up my driver" .. ~~ and I could see it from the clubhouse, but I think you are a little farther away ..
But let's be on the positive side .. forget the accident for a second, with the color, with the low miles, with the sport pack, it would be worth in and around the $32ish figure on a trade, let's say the work is just great, then it's worth "around" $29ish on a trade, depending on what they want to pick on .. but the best way to find out, is to let the dealer "eyeball" it, - this should be interesting . l.o.l..
These have a big book on em', but I wouldn't get too crazy .. the miles and the color will sell this pup .. down Retail Rd, I would be in for $37,9 and let the first $36,0/$37,5 take it home .. if I could see it, I could tell ya exactly.
Don't forget to let me know on this one .. got it.! - now get it.!
Terry
Thanks

Looks like hubby is getting that 94 Chevy diesel, he's in love with it. I'm not thrilled with the price, but the guy's willing to hang on to the truck for another 3 weeks or so until we have our money together. Plus he's taking that darn 82 GMC out of our yard. If that deal falls through there are a couple others we have in mind, but hubby likes that Chevy the best. MEN!!!
Just make sure that "micky mouse" sunroof was a quality installation.
Terry you hit the private party value at "$21ish", we settled on $20,750. Thanks much.

Based on what you are telling me, sounds like they dropped the paint in a dirty shop, then never bothered to even sand it down .. actually this sounds like the "average" job most folks run into, then never mess with .. "should" be easy to rectify, have them or someone they use with a high speed buffer, use some C2 compound and buff it out, the overspray they can remove with some chems .. actually I would have them buff/wax out the whole vehicle, just so they can even out the whole rig.
If they do it and it doesn't remove "most" of it, then it may be time to get the hood shot again .. but a real good detailer, with a real good buffer should be able to clean most of it and make it feel and look "almost" perfect.
Good luck ....
