Sapphire blue -- in 99, maybe the prettiest..in my humble opinion...
But anyway... the silver and tan is very sharp..and very close the Jaq S-type color, in 01...people like it. especially now, that spring is here ---
I might think that $16,900 range is a nice range...... your in DC --- and now that George W. is there.... you might get that figure.....but don't be afraid to grab that $15,000 from a - cash - buyer...you know how long Federal credit unions can take ...l.......o.......l....
....... Doc, you are looking at a great vehicle in the LS ---- It makes the Bimmers run away like little boys...
Well..the miles and the engine don't help you on the trade .. -- no roof - no leather .....But anyway --- if it's clean like you say, you are in the $12,000 range ....--- Hey, I'm used to being the bad guy here. ----
The 2000 LS's..... at the auctions with the V8's..sport package..17'..advance-trac..roof.. well, you know, with all the goodies ..with the sticker in the glove box, of just shy of $40,000....with 11/12/13,000 miles, are rolling in or around that.. $27,000/$28,000 figure....so by the time, they get back to the stores.. with auction fee's ($300), transportation($100), service($200), details($125) and certifications ( $595 ) ... the dealer will own it, for let's say...$29,000 ish+ ......
So, it sounds like you have a good dealer that is willing to work with you..So, like Bill recommended drop him a figure --- and start from there....Kentucky - Huh- ... I seen have quite a few dealers recently at the auctions .......they must be getting ready for Derby Day ..--
.......Speaking of funny birds... This vehicle will have to go in with the Acura coupe...
I like em'... they look sharp -- and their a Toyota vehicle --... But, in my humble opinion ---- I feel the market hasn't adjusted to them -- and the dealers are a little shy of them..New..-- ----- and the auctions kinda reflect this-- a 2000 V6 SLE, white pearl, 9700 miles, all the stuff..and then some... ..ran yesterday at $17,800..along with the 9 others, in and around that figure....
And it's been that way, for at least 6 months ----- So, if you are getting $19,500 for the vehicle (real money).. --I would tighten right up ..that's a great deal.......
.....This are hot little numbers --- along with the Passat's -- oh yea, the new Beetle' --- ...ooop's let's not forget the Cabrio's ---- and I almost forgot those little Golf's ....... ..... I could stab myself ..for not buying that VW franchise ..when I had the chance --- and let's not forget the New Van that's coming out, or the new V8 sedans in a few month's .............Well, thats OK, I just picked up this Formula franchise.....So, I will be fine ...l.....o......l...... -----
So, anyway --- what do you want ? ---- oh yeah..some #'s on a Jetta ---
99 Jetta's Tdi's ..low mileage and clean -- are rollong around a $13,000/$14,000+ figure ....2000 Tdi's are rolling around in that $15,000/$16,000 figure ..... So, at least you can get some idea's ......
I have a 1991 Volvo. 240 Sedan, White with AT, Cloth interior and 90,000 miles. Runs great, is in great condition and I have all the service records. I live in Minneapolis, MN. Any idea what this is worth on a trade-in or am I better off trying to sell it myself? Thanks.
......These are wonderful vehicles....and there is many loyal customers to Volvo......as it should be... --- they don't break, and they will run 200,000+ miles......... I guess you might say --- they are the original Toyota's....
But anyway, "if" this is a "stand tall" vehicle ...no paint ..no parking lot kisses..interior looks and feels like a 99..tires are new..and the service records are all in line and of course -- the miles are low..... you probably have a $3500 vehicle ......
I think if I were you ..I would try to retail it first --- there is a market for these nice clean ..never break tank's ...throw it in the best paper in the area....with a real nice 4 liner ad ( yes, that cost's a couple of bucks ) ....and detail it ..and make it look like a diamond .... ---- and start in the high 6's -- and see what happens ......nothing surprises me on Volvo's - a 127,000 mile, 1995 sedan GLT ran through the block yesterday, at $7350...it was clean and sharp......but, ..127,000 miles ....?
Like I said before --- people love em' ...and I think you can find a home for it on the retail side....
Guy I work with keeps asking me if I want to buy his Jag - I'm tempted to say yes one of these days.
86 XJ6 Black over saddle? (kind of orangy) leather Sunroof 60,000 miles. Had recent paint work on one fender Normal wear it seems for a 15 YO car.
It sat for over a year in FL before being driven up to MA last fall. Had a complete go over when transported but since they have a reputation...
What's that baby worth or should I run real fast? I am captivated by her beauty but am leery of the high maintenance - Am I looking at a car or a mistress here???
Well, I know what my '96 RL is worth, but how abouth this one: '91 Acura Legend L 4dr auto, 118K miles, burgundy(ish) w/ tan leather interior. The car is running great, but here are some of the problems w/ it:
- ABS light on (caused by faulty wheel speed sensor - $120 part, 1hr to replace) - cracked sunroof glass (has been since we bought the car 4 years ago, does not leak, and the break does not seem to progress) -some minor rust spots around wheels - few door dings here and there...
Other than that, the car is "perfect" (and a real looker when washed/waxed) Most likely, it's a perfect candidate for private sale, but I just wanted to get an idea...
Few things to check on this car aside from the obvious:
Condition of tranny. They be weak in Series 3s. Make sure that a "stakedown kit" has been done to the engine. If not, plan on taking it to a Jag specialist (Not dealer... not many of them are familiar with S3s any more) and getting it done. Body rust and fuel tank condition.
Otherwise... I'm thinking around $4-5K or so seems like a fair price if it's nice, rust free, and the wood and leather are in nice shape..... though... what's he want for it?
It is NOT going to be a Honda/Toyota Oldsmobuick etc as far as care and feeding go, but it's a magnificent car that with proper care is pretty reliable. Just be prepared to "feed the kitty" every so often.
I'm trying to figure out what a good price would be on a 2001 Maxima SE Anniversary Edition. This car was a demo and has 4900 miles on it. Sticker on it is 31,600 and the dealer is asking 27,995. I have been offered (from another dealer) a fully loaded '01 SE with less than 100 miles (non anniv edition) for $26,100. Would you guys have any idea what the Anniv Edition might actually be worth?
I have a 2000 Accord EX V6 Coupe in Satin Silver with charcoal leather with 14,000 miles on it. I would like to get rid of it and move on to a different car.
It is in good, but not excellent condition: back bumper is pretty beat up, and one dent in the pass door.
on the XJ6. He keeps saying five grand and its yours but who knows how serious he is.
I realize it won't be like my Accord and I don't expect it to be. My limited knowledge of 80's Jaguars are that they are temperamental but reward you with a pleasurable drive. It's just such a great looking car but you hear the stories ie Nigel and Ian work on it all week so I can drive it on the weekends.
Now if I do become interested, my wife will be the next challenge. "Please, please - I promise to clean up after it and take it out for rides..."
.......This is a pretty easy one to call .....Nissan has had Anniversary, Stanza's,Altima's,Sentra's...etc.... they are built in large volume....
Do you get to pay a little more..Sure.....Do you get a whole lot back....at trade....not really.....but it's your call --- and your money.......I think you are better off in a 01 ---
That is my conclusion too. Not sure the added ground effects and chrome wheels are worth the 2k difference in price. I figure that 3-4 yrs down the road, that package won't be worth maybe 400-500 more than a regular SE. My only dilemia now is whether to spend 26k on a Maxima or about 4k more for a new Type S TL. Too many decisions anymore about cars!! Test drove both back to back on Saturday and can tell a difference all around in the Acura, but of course it is 4k more. Oh well, think I'll go back Saturday and see which dealer I can deal with best.
The Acura, by a football field length ...probably the best purchase in the current market place......Quality, quick as they come..handles like it's on rails ---- and the best buy ..per dollar spent ..--- Do I like them.....Oh Yea....
What are A4 Quattro's going for at auctions in the North or Midwest?
I guess I am thinking 98(40K m.) or 99's (25K m.) automatic, popular colors, premium package, you know, fairly loaded. Is there a price difference between Avants and Sedans?
Oh, yeah, and maybe some insight on buying an acura...what is the best year for TL as far as bang-for-buck?
great site......all I want is to know I'm not leaving money on the table...lol....took the advise here and traded my Solara @ $19.5 for the ES300 at invoice (1100 over TMV)....whatever... it was good enough for me and everyone deserves a living....thaanks again
.........Well this is your lucky week ---- or better yet --- my landscapers....l......o......l...
I was at auction wednesday to pick up a few things ....Audi's where one of them for the guy that does the grass for the marina's around here....
But anyway, this will give you a pretty good idea.........98's with low miles ( under 40,000 ) clean, maintained--books and records , "looks" like a 2000, no dings, new tires etc...2.8's are running in or around $20,000++ figure ...1.8's are in that $17,000++ figure and more......avants are about the same... ---- the 99's ( clean vehicles, well you know the drill) --- 2.8's $23,000 ish + ..1.8's are in the $20,000ish zipcode...
These are very popular vehicles ....from the 4's to the 8's.....people like them --- and they do sell well....
My '94 Toyota Paseo w/ 158,000+ miles has the paint on front bumper badly chipped from DOT tarring and chipping the local roads around here in Pittsburgh. I debating about getting the bumper repainted. I doubt I'll recoup the cost especially if traded to a dealer, but might make a difference if I'm selling it myself. Do you know what it would be a fair price for this? And in your opinion, is it worth it?
I like your screen name! I'm one myself (though thankfully out of public accounting).
If I were you, I would at least take a look at the Infiniti I30. Pricewise, it fits right in between the two vehicles you just mentioned (Max and TL Type S). We have a 2000 I30 and we love it.
Do you happen to remember any of their names? I think I seen a couple in the Warrendale/Cranberry area. That would be south of the Butler Auction place on Route 19.
I've given the non-public avenue a thought a few times myself.
Funny, you should mention the I30. I talked to a couple of dealers today about I30t's. One thing I am a little concerned about with them is resale value, especially with the I35 coming out in the fall. I had a friend that had a '99 I30 and loved it until it was totaled by someone running a red light.
I am going tomorrow to talk to the dealers again about the TL Type S. I might venture to the Infiniti dealer and at least drive an I30t.
hi this is my first time to this message board but i was referred here by div2. He had read my message #1099 of BMW M3 (in the coupes, convertibles, sports cars message board)and told me to ask brentwoodvolvo (Bill?) about this experience.I'm too tired (been up over 24 hrs) to write that post over-so if it wouldn't be too much bother could you review it and tell me what you think? (I also have a post #437 on the Discovery/Discovery II board (under SUV...as if I need to tell you that!)pertaining to this manner -if you R really interested!!lol I am grateful for any input to help me process my devastating experience!! Thanx Jim
First, I'd like some more info on the car. Color? Is it a 5-speed or an automatic?
Oh, and I read about your M3 order... if you cant buy it when it comes in financially.. try selling your place in line on eBay for $2K or so. Explain that they will have to buy the car from you for (Im assuming) MSRP+TTL plus the $2K. I.E. Say OTD on the car is $37K, they'll need to pay you $39K....(Or whatever the numbers work out to be) List it starting at $39K with "Luxury Tax Paid" and "no reserve".
Ya might make some coin
Might be an idea )))
As far as the M3 goes.... $29,000 is, to be fair, Nuts. Car is not worth $1,500 over high wholesale. Car isnt even worth $29K unless.... well..It's not a convertible is it? M3 Convertibles are worth Big bucks. Even then.. with the miles..It's gonna get some low bids. Maybe ya hit convertible by accident?
So let's see what they're doing at the auctions. I'll assume it's a 5-speed to be a tiny bit conservative (Tho I dont think autos bring a premium on M3s...if so,not very much)
What's killing your car is the painted hood (To a bit of a degree) and the miles. M3s get hit for mileage much like an exotic. With 20K miles.. that car is a $27-28K car at the auction block (if it's absolutely perfect, fully stamped service history from BMW and in the right color with the right equipment on the right day). However... with 40K miles it becomes a $24-25K car....
I think it's a $22-23K car or so assuming it isnt pink or brown or something. Edmunds is making a pretty strong effort to get their pricing in line. They really missed this one though. I came up with $28K. Car simply isnt worth it. Car's worth $28K with about 20K on it and no paintwork.
However, $19K is a real lowball. Car is worth a lot more than that.... Still, it's at the low-end of the wholesale pricing spectrum.
.......Not to ruffle any feathers here ..but.....here's a little food for thought....I30's a nice vehicles --- But, save yourself some money....and buy a Maxima...
Same chassis,engine,drivetrain..etc, .... the only real difference is some popcorn, and some badging.....
Well, I went to the Infiniti dealer today and drove an I30t. I have to agree with you about saving the money and going with a Maxima. They are just way too similiar for the extra 4k. I could have bought a $33.5k I30t for $30,300 today.
I just can't resist the new TL Type S though. I just haven't found that really good deal on one yet. I have read on here and the acura-tl forum that some are getting the non-navi cars for a little under $30k in NJ and west coast. The best I have been able to do around Ky/Tenn is $500 off sticker or about $31,200. I'll just wait a month or two then try it again on the Type S.
Bill........I'm guessing you have a Jag for sale?? I was interested in the new X type when I first heard about it.
At the Big Auto Show in January, my friend who owned a 99 Maxima at the time was looking at Infiniti. When the Infiniti rep asked about the Maxima my friend was honest and said one more trip for repairs on the Maxima and he will sue under the lemon law. He hated the Maxima with all the rattles and mechanical problems. Since then, he has traded the 99 Maxima in on a 2001 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl 5 speed. Now he says he misses the performance of the Maxima! The Infiniti rep said it is unfortunate the Maxima and Infiniti are on same basic platform as the two are so different. Maxima does not receive the TLC in manufacture and quality not same level as Infiniti. To be honest, my friend is the only dissatisfied Maxima owner that I have ever met. Most people love their Maxima.
Check on one auto detailing place to paint my front bumper with all those paint chips......$400! Yikes. By the time I trade my car in, it will probably only be valued at $500.
What is a 2001 RL, black, no NAV, 8200 miles worth? A local Acura dealer has it listed in their used car inventory. There is an incentive through today of $3000 on left over 2001s, and the same dealer is advertising new 2001s for $37,899 (including the incentive). I've read of other dealers selling left over 2001s for closer to $36k with the incentive.
Yep, if you're comparing I30t to a Max SE, I'd go for the Max, too. but Max GLE vs. I30L, we went with the Infiniti. It came out to only about $1,500 more for the I30, which we thought was worth it for the extra goodies.
Kind of funny how the 'sport' I30t is more expensive than the 'regular' I30L, but the 'sport' Max SE is cheaper than the 'regular' Max GLE.
I went from Nissan to Infiniti several years ago. I'll never go back. The Nissan experience was lousy but typical of mainline Japanese dealers (Toyota, Honda, and the others are pretty crummy as well). The Infiniti experience was fantastic. I'm now at Saab and eventhough its supposed to be a European luxury/niche brand, they haven't come close to what Infiniti could offer.
Infiniti dealers have consistently been ranked #1 or close by JD Power for dealer satisfaction. Cars like the Maxima/I30 and Pathfinder/QX4 may be the same mechanically but there is a world of difference between them otherwise.
Keep looking....the right one will use an airbrush to cover the flaws...it'll peel after awhile, but, it only costs a buck and you're trading it, anyways. Besides, that's what the dealer'll do with it if you don't. It's called 'reconditioning'!
Had a guy wanting to trade his immaculate 1992 BMW 750. 89,000 miles, charcoal, no sign oif paint or body work...VERY nice!
Tons of receipts including a 4500.00 bill from 200 miles ago. Looking at the receipt, the speciality BMW shop didn't do much except fix some oil leaks, replace the alternator etc.
First number that comes to mind is about $34,500 or so is probably what it would take. Figure a 2000 Like that is gonna be worth about $30K or so wholesale... so what's a 2001 worth? $32K? ... but lemme see...
Got this for you..going to sell it sometime in the next two months... 98 323ic (convertible) under 28K miles...with rollover protection (not standard) , trip computer, premium package, sport wheels, heated seats, foglights. Still got 6+ months left on original warranty. Color is black with sand (leather) interior. Any thoughts on what trade in/ selling price should be for this vehicle...

That's a car you can stick in the paper for $7K and get it if that thing is mint.
There are people out there who LOVE 240s.
When I was with a Volvo dealership, we loved nice ones on trade. Very very desireable cars for us.

Hope this helps.

Same chassis,engine,drivetrain..etc, .... the only real difference is some popcorn, and some badging.....
Terry.
Thanks for all your help guys!!
Personally, the I30s, Maximas, TLs, ES300s..etc... do nothing for me.
Not that they are bad cars or anything.. they just do not excite me.

$28-29K or so...

Thanks,
Quentin
Kind of funny how the 'sport' I30t is more expensive than the 'regular' I30L, but the 'sport' Max SE is cheaper than the 'regular' Max GLE.
Infiniti dealers have consistently been ranked #1 or close by JD Power for dealer satisfaction. Cars like the Maxima/I30 and Pathfinder/QX4 may be the same mechanically but there is a world of difference between them otherwise.
Tons of receipts including a 4500.00 bill from 200 miles ago. Looking at the receipt, the speciality BMW shop didn't do much except fix some oil leaks, replace the alternator etc.
First figure is 14,250 plus a 5% mileage add.
What do you guys think?
First number that comes to mind is about $34,500 or so is probably what it would take. Figure a 2000 Like that is gonna be worth about $30K or so wholesale... so what's a 2001 worth? $32K? ... but lemme see...
So, if you can get a new one for $36K....
Me says to go new.

Is that the number you guys were gonna put on it or what the guy wanted?
Car isnt worth anything even remotely close to $14,962.50
Put it this way. Saw one sell here in Orlando recently. Dark Green, immaculate, about 40K miles. It did 15K (and there were 2 guys all over it).
I think it's about a $10Kish car depending on who's gonna bid it and a $13-14K retail car.
I'd hit it at $10K or so if it's that nice and free of paintwork.

As you know these cars become PIGS as they age and give the term "Money Pit" entire new meaning!
Thanks!
That alone is enough to keep me from ever considering an old used one.
thank you very much...
