That 9-3 reference is similar but mine is the turbo sport coupe.

Clarification: The engine is not "remanufactured" or rebuilt. It is actually a brand new new factory built engine. But I see your point regarding interpretations of why it needed a new engine. However I have all the service records and the car can be fully examined to show that it has not been abused.

Unfortunately it is a SAAB and the SAAB approach to warantee repair, in my experience, is if its seems broke, well then just replace it. For example I have three records over one week for "right front end rattles on bumpy roads". First time:"Tightened strut bolt - NC". Second time: "tightened strut bolt - NC". Third time? "replace struts, mounts and hardware - $1800 to warantee company... car had 35 K miles at the time, no suspension problems that I could tell, just an irritating rattle over bumps.. Definitely fixed the problem tho'.

It is an LX but it has the power seat. That's about the only EX-like feature it has.

Just went to the dealer last night and they offered $3,000 for the trade-in. Unfortunately they only had 1 CRV and it had a whole bunch of after-market stuff on it and we were waaaaaaayyyyy apart on the price so I'll be trying a dealer this weekend that I know has more inventory. Hopefully they make a similar trade-in offer.

As for the trans, unfortunately I am out of their "extra" warranty period in years and miles. I do think they should pay for it, but I never had it serviced at the dealership before and don't have receipts to prove I maintained it properly - though I tend to think that if the trans lasted THIS long, that could be enough proof but I'm sure they wouldn't go for that argument.

    Thanks for all the responses.

well, its good you want another Honda, because a Honda dealer will obviously be able to step up a bit more on this trade (since they can probably fix it cheaper than anyone else). Good luck.

Hope the oracle can help. My FIL just passed away, and the family asked for help valuing his cars (gee, wonder why they asked me??).

Anyway, there are 2, both located near Albany NY:

    1) 1993 Caddy Sedan de Ville. V8, 2 tone brown/tan, with tanish leather. Normally equipped I guess, no moonroof though. It does have some kind of basket wire wheels. Never hit, no rust (always been garaged, normally not driven in snow). AC just died, but assume that it will be fixed, otherwise in good shape.

Only 37K on this old mans car, so I guess not driven much at all. Maybe Lemko would want it??

    2) 2005 Chevy Impala Beige/tan cloth. Base model, so I don't think it has any options to speak of. Only about 3 months old, with a whopping 1,500 miles on it now. Still smells new. I think he paid 17ish for it (employee pricing), so I imagine the cost per mile on this one is going to be steep.

As always, help is greatly appreciated

Top of the mornin' to you Terry,
Not a CPO, I got it from one of those whole sale dealers to buys the trade-in's from bigger dealers. He said his margin was $750 on a $29,150 car which was OK?
I checked with the local BMW dealership and they gave the car a clean sheet as far as maintenance & service history goes. Carfax came back clean and it drives well. Its Sterling Grey with matching grey top.

Welcome back Terry, and kudos for all your help down in the disaster area. Time and Newsweek just had some unbelievable photos of the destruction.

Since nobody was able to give me an answer, I know you can. Here is the info:
We just bought a 2002 RX 300 and decided to sell our 2000 Sienna XLE. Can anyone give me an idea on what to ask? Here is the scoop:
    Western burbs of Chicago
    Mileage - 67350 - One-owner
Denin blue with grey leather, moon roof, roof rack, usual XLE features, replaced original 6-CD changer with JVC single CD, MP3 and XM ready
Excellent condition, non-smoker, gargaged, Mobil 1 oil/filter change every 4,500K, hand washed 90% of time (with annual Zaino clay-bar), newer brakes and rotors, about 35K on Yokohama Avid Tourings, all maintenance records. Had one minor parking lot incident, resulting in new rear bumper about 6 months after purchase. No dings or dents, some minor scratches. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
PS - Took it to CARMAX last night, they offered less than half of what they were asking for similar vehicle. Nice margin, huh?

Welcome back Terry. You make me proud to be an American.

Quick update on trading my 99 Expedition or 04 Tahoe (the Black beast SUV's in Atlanta): Didn't do anything. Figure that with gas at $3 -$4 a gallon for the stations that have it, no dealer would want to touch either of them right now.

BTW, Atlanta paper said today that 25% of metro stations are still out of at least one grade of gas, and that even with both major pipelines now operational, we can expect supply issues for at least a few weeks. I know neither car will be appreciating, but am hoping the current hysteria will die down in a few weeks.

Thanks again for all you do here, and especially what you did this weekend in LA.

well, i went to the dealer today to check on that '03 LS. Everything went well and it looks like we have a deal. I'll be picking it up tomorrow.

    the aftermath:
SO... I was pretty much expecting to pay about $20,500 for the LS and get $23.5K for the Z trade-in. The only wanted to give me $23k for the Z, but went down to $20k for the LS. As you always say, Terry, its the difference that matters.

'03 lincoln ls v8 premium w/30k miles. Certified w/extended warranty. Steel Blue over tan. $20K.

    '04 350z Touring 6-speed. 16k miles. Silver over orange. $23K.

    How does that sound?
    Thanks.

I found a truck that I like and I think the price is a little low. I wanted to see if this is a normal price.

2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II
    Farmington Hills, Michigan
    4WD
    31,499 miles
    Black exterior/Tan interior
Heated power leather seats, dual sunroofs, 6-disc cd changer, and the other usual power accessories.
There are no dents or scratches on the outside and the interior seems to be pretty clean. No accidents and all the maintenance has been performed and records are in the glovebox

They have it listed for $18,999. Does that seem to be a good deal?

actually, i think that's a little high. Its not a bad ASKING price, but $18k seems like a more reasonable TAKING price.

Throw the books out on a '99 with 142K!!!!!
Is there a carmax near you? Find out what they will offer for that one.
Where is the good news? Oh, it is in decent shape and runs good with no major problems.

Now the bad news. Gas is $3.00 a gallon and it gets all of ~16mpg highway.
Big 142K miles on a 1999. It is not even a 4WD which would help value with winter coming in a short 3 months. No bank is going want to carry the note on a loan on it due to the miles.

I see a few 4WD versions of what you have with the same tall miles and ASKING prices of $6,900 to $8,900 right now at a few dealers near you. Only one 2WD listed with 150K at $5,900 asking. I cannot imagine a dealer wanting to put tall money in that one. It probably will be headed to the auction and wind up on a buy here pay here type of lot. No doubt the actual cash value is going to be a couple of thousand behind the asking prices.

That's what I was afraid of. I do have a CarMax close by. Question about CarMax....Do their offers usually compete with trade ins at dealerships or are they typically higher or lower?

    Thanks.

**Is there a carmax near you? Find out what they will offer for that one. **

I thought that they were only interested in cars with <70k miles on the odometer.

From my two or three experiences, I haven't found that Carmax's offers are any better than cash offers received from local dealers which I have approached. On occasion, they have been less.

    I would shop it around.

I'm in Jersey City, NJ. I am the original owner of a fully load">ed clearcoat metallic 1999 Dodge Intrepid ES. This car has the 3.2 liter 6 cylinder. It's FWD, with 37000 miles (I walk to work, I drive less than 6000 miles a year). It has the premium rims, moonroof, dual power seats, leather interior and single CD AM/FM cassette premium sound system. The interior is in mint condition. The only problems with the body are the rear bumper, which is dinged up from the on-street parking in the city. I think most of the scuffs could be compounded out, leaving few minor blemishes.I had new brakes installed on all four wheels less than 1 year ago. I also have 6 months left on the 7 year/50,000 mile $0 deductible extended warranty I purchased. The KBB trade-in price said approx $4100, the KBB retail price close to $8900, and the private sale price $6560.

What could I expect from a dealer, and from a private sale?

    With the low mil

Getting the bug, so what is easonable to expect for this (as a trade in scenic NJ):

2005 Scion tC, Flint mica (dark gray) 5 speed, only accessories are mats and wheel locks. Only 9,200 miles.

No hits/runs/errors, once I detail it up it will look good enough for the front row (pretty much like new still, just minimal wear/tear of the short miles).

Give me a number I like so I can move onto the latest/greatest (or at least something with 4 doors)

Thanks for the input, Terry. Maybe I'm high (pun intended), but I just listed it in an online ad for $13,200. Believe it or not, there are about 15 Siennas (2000 model year) listed higher than that in my local zone (within 100 miles of Chi-town). There are only 6 listed below 11,500 and those are either CE, hi miles or rebuilt titles. If I don't hear the phone ringing or my e-mail is not pinging with inquiries, I'll drop it. I know my message may have been confusing, but I am the original owner. I'll keep you posted. By the way, CARMAX offered 7,500 and they have 2 similar Siennas listed for 15,900.

....... $13,200 ....? .. it's your van and you can "ask" anything you like ...

Keep in mind with pricing .... $13,200 kinda cuts out most buyers .. always round it off to say: $12,900 - it gives buyers a feeling of negotiation ...... and yes, I did know you are the first owner ---- get it.? it's called "humor" ... we do alot of that here ....

    Let me know ..........

    Terry. ;)

    **Welcome back Terry.
well, i have the Galves number ($18.5k), but I'd like to see how it stacks up in the real-world of New Jersey.
    '03 Lincoln LS V8 premium
    30K miles
    Light metallic blue
    ==================================

Mornin' Qb .......... soooo, it's a 03 Lincoln LS V8 with the Prem pack and 30k .... if it's got the slider, bun warmers, tunes, deep sneaks, chromee's and it has a clean history ... then it's worth the mid/tall $17's low low $18's come trade side, so it probably hits the table in the tall $18's .... the market is kinda funny on these, I'm only paying the $22/$23ish range for the 05's with all the junk and miles in the 9/11k range .......

I would think your "Z" and $3 grand back (in and around) ........ ;)

Up in the NY area ....... we have a 00 Jakota Quad cab "sport" .. (auto.?) the miles are low for the year, it's got the 4.7 V8, it's a 4x4, almost a good color, power pack, no smoke, service has been pretty good and the rubber is almost newish ........ "except" for the pole battle - and a few tiny kisses, it sounds like it's in pretty good shape ~ if ~ we don't have any click click in the 4x4 ... trade side, in and around the low/mid $9's, might "maybe" get a dealer to stagger into the tall $9's if it's super clean and it needs -0- ......... the miles save this one ..... what numbers have you been seeing ...?

... but I just listed it in an online ad for $13,200. Believe it or not, there are about 15 Siennas (2000 model year) listed higher than that in my local zone (within 100 miles of Chi-town). There are only 6 listed below 11,500 and those are either CE, hi miles or rebuilt titles.

I dunno whether you personally are high or not, but the price you're asking sure is. I've got an '03 CE -- which has almost all the LE stuff, like quad seating, CD player, etc.
I paid $22 for it new and got 0% for 3 years. (4 payments left -- and then never again. I hope).

Your van is 6 years old, with a fairly low 11k miles per year. There is no way that I would pay over $10 for it, and even that level, I'd probably just go new or buy something else. This is not to say that you won't get what Terry said, but asking $13 strikes me as nuts. The better half of that car's life is -o-v-e-r- .

For comparison, I bought an 81k '00 Villager Estate (Quest clone) earlier this year, and I paid $6,700. That's a price a cash buyer can usually pay... payments on a 6-year-old car are not a good idea, esp. if they stretch until the thing is 8, 9, or 10 years old.

But see what happens, you never know with Toyondas. Just be preparered to drop the price and then negotiate a lot. And do let us know; I like these vans and would really love to know what a nice example like yours brings.

FWIW, when I read your description, I thought about a quick trip to Chicago before I came to my senses... we don't need two of the silly things. It sounds nice.

    Cheers

Haven't seen any numbers yet, trying to get an idea. NADA high 11's, KBB was 9,800 & Galves 10,675. Looking to get Durango SLT 28G pkg. w/Family Value group. 1 Dodge dealer I went to took Dodge Employee Pricing off the table when I advised I was trading. They then worked off the MSRP of the Durango and said they were giving me $14,800 for the Dakota. Sounds fishy

Thanks for the info, by the way
