That's ok. I've now got 2 to ask about. :)

Curious what this would bring at auction.

2001 PT Cruiser Limited automatic. Looks like a copper color. Only 31k miles. In NJ.

Also found an '05 PT Cruiser. Silver. Its pretty basic. I believe its a stick. power windows and locks. AC. That's about it. Only 28k miles on this one. Used car dealer has it listed at $7500, which is about what other dealers are asking for '01 and '02s. So I'm suspicious. Then again, if its a base model.... ?

    Thanks.

You are probably going to be in the low $20's.

Car models are phased out all the time, it doesn't have a bearing on trade in value.
Miles, condition and supply have more bearing.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
The 01 would probably bring $4-5,000 at auction.

    05 Base would bring @ $6000

Was hoping to get some feedback from volvomax, even though others have been kind enough to respond.

Location: Philadelphia, PA (or Pittsburgh PA depending on if that helps it or not, my son can sell it at school)

    Year/Make/Model: 2001 Ford Taurus SEL
    Engine: 3.0L V6 24V (Duratec Engine)
Mileage: 60,500 (mostly highway since my son drives between pittsburgh and columbus up to twice a month weekend)
    Color: Black
Major Options: Mach Audio System with CD Changer, as well as aftermarket Sirius Sportster professionally installed (Hardwired to the stereo- not FM Modulated and it created an AUX jack as well), Leather, 5 passenger seating (center console mounted shifter), Auto Climate Control, Sunroof, Rear Spoiler, the SEL Wheels
Condition: Car is extremely clean- meticulously maintained by my son- we have all the records for it since we bought it 4 years ago, body is in good shape for a car pushing 8/9 years old (original in service is 9/2000), Brakes are good, Tires are new, interior is in great shape.
Other: Had a minor incident when I backed my excursion into the drivers side rear door- door was replaced. You can only tell if you look hard for it, but it happened and I couldn't sell it without disclosing it.

60k mile was service was already completed, Tires are only 10-15,000 miles old- Bridgestone Turanaza All-seasons.

I figure to advertise it locally- put a for sale sign on it too- craigslist, auto trader, etc and ask $4995- let it go for 4500ish

    What do you think?

That sounds about right. Car would probably bring $3,000 on a trade.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!
Did you mean $18-20K private party or $18-20K dealer price?
If I end up selling or trading it, I'll write back in and let you know what it went for.

    Thanks again, vmax.
Sounds like the '05 is a better value.

    They're asking $23,500. Thoughts?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Try Carfax on this one as the low miles will be attractive. The market is bad for 'em right now (Ford has a four grand rebate on '08s in many places).

Located in Socal - thoughts on trade in value at a volvo dealer?

    Thanks in advance volvomax
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Trade in @ $14,000

Xtended warranty adds no value to a dealer, but would if you sold the car privately.
Figure private party in the $16-18,000 range.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Avg price.
Should be @ $1500 wiggle room easy. Assuming that it is NOT a CPO car.
    Otherwise, it's a good price w/ CPO.

My First time on this board. The local BMW dealer has a

    * 545i (loaded with all options - sport, premium, cold weather).
    * Metallic Silver with Grey Leather
    * 45,000 Miles

Seems to drive fine. He wants 33K for it (and I believe the vehicle has extended maintenance for 100K miles as well). Is this a good deal or should I try to bargain him down further?

I am also a bit confused between the 545i from the 05 vintage vs later year 530i (I think the 530's are a couple of grand more).
Is the V8 worth buying a earlier year model as compared to the 530s?
Is the Inline 6 much more reliable than the V8?

    Thanks in advance!

    OUCH!
So that means trade-in value on my '05 has dropped about $6k in just 6 months. :(

Damn thats brutal - might need to "hire" someone to take it down to TJ if I really grow tired of it. ;) . But in all seriousness, I knew it was sub 20, just wanted to confirm as I have seen some varying pricing. My guess is there are realistic people and people that are probably underwater based on some other issues (our awesome economy).

Heres hoping gas dumps to sub 2 bucks and SUVs become attractive again.

Yes, you and everyone else w/ an SUV.

Heres hoping gas dumps to sub 2 bucks and SUVs become attractive again.

    It's already happening.
So far, we have sold 6 used XC90's this month.
So, people are coming back to SUV's. Party due to the price of gas,but also partly due to the fact that SUV's are steals right now.
Frankly, I don't see the prices, trade in or retail going up again.

    3.5L
    FWD, 6 speed manual transmission
    22k miles
    Color is carbon bronze pearl

    Good condition
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Should be somewhere in the $24's.
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
I sure volvo can walk you thru all this; altho there are other forums & sites like roadfly to ask specific E60 questions. (which year, options, engines are more desirable, etc.).

You should really get all the research done possible before buying a V8, 4 y.o., 45K mile bmw. Somewhat OT, I just saw a pic of a "BMW E61 patrolcar of the German Federal Police" on Wikapedia.....very cool.

Thinking of making an offer. Alaska, 1 owner trade-in, non certified.
    Dealer asking $18,000
    Reg. cab, short bed, 4x4
    6,500 miles
    SLT,TRX Off Road pkg.
    5.7 Hemi
    Auto
    limited slip
    fog lights
    17" alloy wheels
    ABS
    Very good-excellent cond.
Thinking a reg. cab not being in high demand may factor in offer. What would be a good offer or starting point for negotiations? Thanks
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Wholesale is probably in the $15-16,000 neighborhood.
You should have a grand to $1500 to workwith.

hi volvomax, can i ask for your opinion on this car please?

    XC90 2006 Ocean Race Edition
    CPO
    16,500 miles
Nav + Moonroof + some other goodies

    Dealer final offer = $28,000

    Assume it's in 'excellent' condition (KBB trade-in = $24,890)

Seems a bit high still, but compared to others in the area it's the lowest... Thanks for your help!

p.s. Do these cars ::need:: premium fuel?
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Read the orange paragraph at the bottom and use that format when requesting trade numbers.
  • mjfloyd1mjfloyd1 Member Posts: 3,806
    Thanks Volvomax
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Most of these were running over the block for $21-22,000

Unless the dealer buried himself(and he may have depending on how long he's had the truck) there should be some room left.

As for the fuel, if you want to get the most out of the V8,use Premium.
  • mlacombemlacombe Member Posts: 10
    ok I'll try again

    I want to buy
    Louisiana
    2005 mazda mpv lx
    5 door mini van
    v6 engine
    fwd
    65000mi
    silver
power door locks, power windows, dvd player
    condition seems ok

    I want to trade
    1999 honda crv
    5 door mini suv
    fwd
    125000mi
    red
    power locks, windows, roof rails
condition one bad spot on paint, one missing wheel cap, slight steering wheel vibration

What type of numbers should I be looking at on this deal. I made an offer of $5000 cash plus my trade in. They told me I was being unreasonable, but then they called me 4 times today to try and get the deal done. They kept changing the prices all around but they varied from 7500 to 9000 plus my trade plus TTL.

    thanks

Location: Lincoln, Nebraska ( Will be moving to NY less than 2 months, please tell me if the price would be higher there)
    Year/Make/Model: 2002 Honda Accord
    Body Style: Coupe
    Engine: 3.0 Liter V6, Automatic
    Driveline: FWD
    Mileage: 69,000
    Color: Red, Ivory leather interior
Major Options: EX Trim: Leather, power moonroof, alloy wheels, power driver's seat, ABS, Homelink garage remote
    Condition:
Exterior: Recent hail damage. The hail dings are very small. Most people seeing my car need to have the dents pointed out to them, but they are everywhere. Insurance appraised damage at $4000. Impossible to see dings in photos I have posted online. Aside from that, the exterior would be Good to Excellent by KBB standards.

Interior: Small rips along stitching seams on the driver's side bolster (where you would rub getting into the car) Leather is in good shape aside from that. Minor discoloration on passenger side floor mat.

    Tires: New
    Brakes: New
Maintenance: Performed regularly, have records since purchasing the car in 2005.

Insurance claim was made on the hail damage and was paid minus deductible. No repair work has been done. No other insurance claims have been made on the car.

might have the letter order wrong there...

    anyway, in NJ (near philly).

2005 3 series wagon. all wheel drive. CPO. at a BMW dealer

49,000 miles on it already (in service was 3/2005)

Dark blue over tan leather. Preium package so roof, wood, etc. Steptronic AT.

Looks clean, usual new tires, etc.

In todays climate, what would something like this be doable at? Miles are IMO a bit stiff, but for the right discount...

What should I expect for a dealer trade in value?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Retail on the MPV is probably gonna be in the $8-9,000 area.

    CRV is probably worth $3,000

    So, you should be close.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Unmolested, the car is worth @ $6000 in Nebraska and $7-8,000 in NY.

However, your car has $4,000 worth of damage.
So, you are probably looking at a $2-3,000 trade.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
4 yr old car, miles are about average.
Car should wholesale in the mid to low teens.
BMW's are hard to steal as CPO cars because of the enormous costs involved in reconditioning.
Figure a selling price in the high teens.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    An ok price,not great.

    wholesale is anywhere from $27-29,000
Factor in the reconditioning and the CPO warranty and you shoud still have some wiggle room.
  • mlacombemlacombe Member Posts: 10
    Thank volvomax,

I cleaned, washed, waxed, and vaccumed my wifes car sunday. Then I went in this morning and offered them $6000 plus trade plus TTL. They RAISED the price to $8500 plus trade plus TTL. :)

Oh well, its their car. I guess they want a homerun or nothing. We'll just keep looking.

What is a fair value in these times for a 2004 Toyota Tacoma - with hitch / leer body colored cap (pass through window) and chrome nerf bars. Good original maroon/crimson paint, V6, never hit, pwr doors and windows. Sliding glass back window. I am considering trading for a Honda Element (for the extra seats) but dont really want to take on much additional debt....mileage 17,000 (its a third vehicle in the family)
  • squirreljamsquirreljam Member Posts: 71
Hi gang - I'm looking for advice from the used-car-value experts here. I'm about to trade an 04 Acura TSX handshaker. Car is in St Louis, 50K miles, good condition overall but with one big scratch across trunk lid, no nav. Car needs tires pretty bad, within a micron or so of the wear bars - however, it just passed inspection and I can get by until I trade. Let's assume new tires will cost me $600.

    So - two questions:

One - Obviously, the car with new tires is worth more than with the old sneakers - but is it enough to offset the cost (in other words, would I likely get the $600 back)?

Two - what about the trunk lid - should I have it sprayed or trade with scratch?

Both these questions are about the "cost vs reward" of fixing up a car before trading it. Any overall thoughts about that?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Truck would probably bring $12,000 or so on a trade.
Miles are stupid low, but the trade in add for low miles is limited.
Might want to sell that truck privately.
  • zoomzoomdlrzoomzoomdlr Member Posts: 7
I am a dealer and have access to up to the minute auction reports for a true today's market value on cars, the nearest match sold recently to yours is a automatic car with 82k that ran for 7700. so figuring for the stick and additional miles, sounds like you have a 6500 vehicle. If anyone else would like an auction report value, please write me through my profile...
  • zoomzoomdlrzoomzoomdlr Member Posts: 7
There are very few 6speed RSX that year showing on auciton report, the nearest to 50k miles show an average condition car bringin 11800 and an excellent car bringing 14000. As with most things auto related, you won't hardly ever get your money back. The exception in your case would be to find a dealer that isn't afraid of having the stick car in stock, and as an appraiser of cars, we certainly look differently on a car that comes in spotless with near new rubber standing tall versus one that doesn't look like it's been cleaned often with bald tires... If I were you, I'd look for a set of take-off tires and try to do some touch up myself to the scratch. Looking for bang for the buck here, like try a sharpie on the scratch...

It's not worth doing either if you're going to trade. However, if you want to take a shot at a private sale, then it's the other way around.
  • explorerx4explorerx4 Member Posts: 20,723
depending where 'doc is moving to in ny, the car could look like it was hit by more than some hail in a few months.
