Ok, everyone sees my nice Jeep and finds out the great deal I got.....now they want me to help them buy a car......grrr, the cycle begins!!!

This guy I know wants to buy a Toyota Tacoma, he is looking at a 1998 Tacoma x-cab, 4WD, V-6, manual trans, SR5, pretty loaded with all the pwr stuff, its red/gray cloth, and now the kicker, the thing has 77K on it and has evidence of previous paint work and a new rear bumper. He has been quoted an out the door price of $16,238, the dealer was asking $17,138. I say its too much and more like $14,500 is reasonable. Soooo, what's it worth?? Thanks.

..... Ok, let's see ... We have a handshaker on this convert..oh, oh, - no help there.

Well, no matter the area, it's the right color ...and it's got the heated seats along with, it has no miles ... it's a SE..right ..?

Soooo, if it's nice and clean, without the "crash and ding" package ... you are going to be "in and around" the $21/$22 range ... (real money) --- and on the retail end, you should be around $24/$25ish ...

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.

...... Ok ... it's a high mileage SR5 extended cab -- with the probable indication that it's been in the "Moose Zone" ..Hmmmmm.

    It's a 4x4, that's a big help ....a V6, more help..Doooh..! it's a handshaker, oh well it gives you guys something to do, between 7-11's ---

It's a $11ish vehicle on the auction side ... and on the retail side, it could be done "around" $13ish-- ya know, new rubber .. cleans like a 2000, etc..

So in the Land of "Bullwinkle" a $14ish figure, seems to be right on ..!

    .... How are you ...?

01, with 21klicks --- is it nice and clean ...? Miles are a little stiff, but I guess it will sell..l..o..l..

You know the routine ... needs nothing, new tires -- no invasion of the "parking lot gangsters" ... you are in and around the "tall" $15's ...(real money) --- and I guess around the $18's+ on the retail side ...

A guy I know is contemplating selling his 93 Explorer 4x4 and I may be interested. It's a 2 door, 5 speed manual, and has around 150,000 miles on it. I last saw the thing 2 years ago and it was in very good condition - he has a different vehicle he does his off-roading in.

TMV and KBB both list $3000-3500 in private party value, but I think that sounds a bit high. What do you guys think it's trade-in and private party value should be?
  • allroyallroy Member Posts: 58
Ok, I gotta ask...$16500 for a Jetta trade in. What am I doing wrong? I have 15,000 miles on a fully loaded Jetta and I can only get $15,300!

Somebody has a white Vanden Plas up for bid. I think it was a 99 with about 19k miles. The deal is to take over his payments of $895/mo for the rest of the contract - about 12 more months, pay him a fee of $5k, and then buy out the lease at the end for a balance of $30k. The total was $43 according to those terms, or $45k if you wanted him to get you the title right away (by buying out the lease early).

    Is this a wacky deal?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Wacky? Yup!

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Youre buried.

    $20K methinks..

  • ckrllckrll Member Posts: 19
White, stock except for CD. New tires. Lovingly cared for -- nary a blemish or ding. 26,500 miles.

What would the wholesale be? I'm getting all kinds of answers locally, from high 14's to high 15's.

    Thanks,

    John
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Good color, good car.

    Solid $17,500-18K all day long.

    Retail? $20K
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Well,

I think its' about a $14,800 car to me.. So closer to $15K ought to be real Money (I think the miles are a tad stiff)

So.. upper 15s? Youre doing well.

All Std equip plus wood wheel and trip comp.
Looks new 7500 miles Chicago Area

I'm thinking 20-21 wholesale 23.5 in the trib. Am I on target
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
$15,500-16K all day long I think...

Depends on the color in Miami tho. If its Black vs Silver... Towards the low end of my price range of that. Especially for Dark Red, Dark Green, Indigo..etc..

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
If it looks new.. And the miles sure are right, and the color is good,

I think you're on target. Without Chrome 17"s and a roof though, (And Terry correct me if I am wrong) Youd be about $20K wholesale/22-23K retail.

I think another Grand solid for those two options.

    Auto
    6-CD changer
    23K

Here's one for you, 96 XJ6 Topaz, Cashmere, avg condition 158k miles. He wants to trade on a 98 XJ8L, what kind of number would you put on a 96 with that many miles.

    ........ Well --- let's see, it's the wrong color..yuk ---- and it's got a ton of miles, what is this guy ...? A Mailman..?

$4,500/$5,000 ... Ok, Bill.. knock yourself out, what do you think ---- you probably have a home for it ..l..o..l...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... The miles are right, that's for sure ... it's not topaz is it ..? l..o..l..

Dual roofs, very slick..and hard to find ...its a GT with all the toys, nice vehicle.

If this little bullet has stayed away from all the parking lot gangsters, its clean..and needs -0- ... its going to do "in and around" the high $16's ..and because of the "rarity" of this little deal, maybe low $17's ..

On the retail end, you are in the high $19's ..

    I hope this helps...

    Terry.
  • rayh3rayh3 Member Posts: 38
I was real generous, overallowed and offered him 6500, the customer flipped out and left in a huff......he wanted no less than 12k for it.

I have a 1999 BMW M3 with 120k miles, no sunroof, 15 inch wheels, a green cloth interior and a burgandy exterior. in perfect condition except for the torn back seat and cracked windshield. how much should I expect for this gem?
  • black01coupev6black01coupev6 Member Posts: 195
cupholder: I'm thinking no less than $50,000. As long as it doesn't have a "handshaker" and no "parking lot kisses" and it's "knee deep in rubber". Did I cover everything?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Now how is that spelled again... ? ceck, chuck, cheek.... got it, CHECK... Oh happy days.

    What..? another Mailman ..?

Don't you have any buses, taxi's, friends, cell phones where you live ..?

It's a 99 with ---- 120 Klicks...gheez, and along with it, it's has no slider...What-- did you win this little darlin' in a divorce..?

    It has a St Patty's interior...and a Mad dog 20/20 exterior...yeow!

    Hmmmmm, I'm thinkin' $10/$11ish ..maybe..

    Terry.
  • timadamstimadams Member Posts: 294
Thanks for your help regarding my 2000 Beetle, Bill. Your numbers seem pretty reasonable ($13.5 trade / $15.8 sell). I checked the online guides. Edmunds was low at $12.5/$13.8 and carprices.com was high at $15.0/$19.3. $19,300?!? We only paid $20,200 for it brand new. If I only lose $900 in value in two years, I'll be bragging about VW's low depreciation for a long time.

BTW, Dealers indicating asking prices online for used Bugs are asking about $16 to $18k for similar cars.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    158,000?

    LOLOLOLOL!!!!

    The poor [non-permissible content removed]!

It is Topaz psst.. Terry... Wake up! Topaz is that light champagne!

Car is worth, at best, probably half of current market on an average miler I suppose.. $6K is probably all the money. $12K as a trade-In?

I'm sorry.. I didnt see where you said 158K mile 1997 XK8 Convertible..

Heck, Ray you have my #.. tell the guy to call me if he wants. And tell him I just saw a VERY nice 1996 Ice Blue XJ6 with 70K or so on it do $10,800...

    So what's his car worth?

Personally, if you called me for a bid.. I'd be around $5,000 and I'd drag it out to the auction and hope for the best.
