There have been a few posts with similar complaints. I posted a list of possible causes for this that comes straight out of the shop manual. Unfortunately searching the archives to retrieve this info on this forum is not the best I have seen.
Try giving it until you hit maybe 1500mi. If it is still the same I would say take it back to the dealer to have it looked at.
My question concerns the floor mats and the plastic floor mat holder which is supposed to prevent the floor mats from sliding forward. The plastic holder on the drivers side has come partially out of the carpet on the floorboard. I have tried to re-insert it several times to no avail. I know due to the nature of the mat, that is going to want to slide forward whenever you get in the car. Thought that was what the plastic holder was for. Has anyone else experienced this? Also my floor mat on the drivers side has worn down to the rubber where the sole of my shoe rests on it. I don't think this should be wearing out after 2 months.
Any thoughts would be appreiciated.
Appears to be a very cheap design.
Have to take it up with the dealer next time I bring it in.
I dont have one of the K&N ffilters yet, however, when you look at the cost of a new, replacement filter from the dealer, the cost is not that bad. And IF the filter allows any improvement in mileage or performance, this is a plus.
Now that the K&N Part numbers are on the K&N website, I will take the plunge on both of my Hyundai's.
Like my dad always said ' Education costs money' Once I have spent $$s on the filter I will truley know if it is worth it or not.
One thing for sure is the better gas mileage.
To my surprise there was no damage to my car;other then a small crease in my license plate holder. The Elantra was also unscathed. There wasn't even a paint scratch on either vehicle.
I would have to say this says something about Korean vehicle finish and structural quality in real world situations.
Also, I would check out why the air bag did not deploy. Perhaps the speed of the other car at the time of impact was too low or perhaps it was a failure. Only your dealer can probably tell you for sure.
Glad to hear that there were no injuries.
I am not having luck with one Hyundai dealer in Nashville (Hallmark Hyundai) and I need a price as low as possible because my trade-in will end up netting me a negative dollar amount trade value.
Anyone know of a reputable dealer nearby?
Thanks!
The results are both good and bad.

This car will be perfect for my daughter. I got a really good deal on the automatic, but they wouldn't budge from MSRP on package 2, so I declined. I will install an alarm system separately (I don't think she would use cruise control anyway).
I was very impressed with the car on the drive home (it was quiet, smooth and crept up to 80 on me before I realized it)! And knowing that the engine and transmission are warranted for 100,000 miles (or 10 years) gives me great peace of mind!
Last week I noticed postings on prices...for what it's worth, my deal was $3,044 below sticker and $2,278 below factory invoice...I was happy!
A week later they phoned to say one had been delivered. I told them my price, five minutes later they called me back to say OK. I went in with an E-Loan draft, without me asking they offered me a better APR. I can recommend Rte 2 Hyundai in Leominster, MA. There was no pressure and no trying to sell any extras. Love the car as well.
Thanks for the info.
Tony
What was your actual cost before taxes, tag, and title?
I ask because stever15, myself, and most others on this forum basically paid around or a couple of hundred below invoice.
As I say, I was happy...and so is my daughter, because she is paying me back for the car!
The dealer is "Famous Ed's Hyundai" (formerly "Bendick Hyundai") in El Monte, CA. Advertised prices of $10,988 included all Elantras with MRSP of $13,972 or less. I happened to get the mud flaps thrown in because the color I wanted had them on.
Good people to work with, no pressure, easy to purchase! BTW, their price also beat CarsDirect's price by $1,178...
A little different from your numbers for some reason.
It is a 5sp right. I ask because in the 2nd message you have (Auto/CA emissions/floor mats/mud guards)
I would have to think that the dealer will soon be going out of business selling cars below their cost. Unless they are getting some other kick back besides the $500 rebate and dealer holdback of 2% of invoice ($271). Based on this the dealer's cost was $12,779 and he sold it to you for $10,988 thus taking a $1,791 loss.
I would have to agree that they are good people to work with.
It would probably be worth flying out there for people in states close to CA for deals like that.
Good thing it was an Elantra that backed up, and not an Expedition or Suburban!
The MRSP of $14,032 is $13,299 base (incl. auto transmission),$100 CA emissions, $78 floor mats, $60 mud guards and $495 frt. & handling. Total factory invoice is $13,266. CarsDirect price (zip 91773) is $12,166. My price was $10,988, which is $3,044 below MRSP, $2,278 below factory invoice and $1,178 below CarsDirect.
I don't know how they sell them at this price, either. I was only looking for about 2 weeks, so I don't know if these prices are unusual in this area. However, another dealer advertised a "one only" loss leader on Saturday for $9,795 (MRSP $13,972 -- it was sold, of course).
But why is everyone buying at about $200 below factory invoice when CarsDirect is selling at $1,100 below factory invoice?
I mentioned the non-deployment of airbags only to give an idea of the low speed of the impact. My comment regarding structual and finish quality was just to state that these two Korean cars SEEMINGLY will survive parking lot bumpercar.
Problem with rain entering your car? Better have that checked out with hyundai
I didn't realize I was getting such a great deal!
I only brought up the pricing because I got the impression over the past 2 weeks that were a lot of pricing discrepancies and you wanted to share information.
Bottom line -- it's supply and demand and the prices are what the market will bear. It doesn't mean I got a better deal or you paid too much -- it just means the market here is more competitive!
I was hoping the data was decisive when I started my search.
If it is true that by giving better gas mileage the K&N has to sacrifice fine particle filtering then I don't want it.
My son bought one for his 2000 Cavalier about a month ago. I'm going to check the ducting after the filter on it to see if the K&N filter is allowing dust through.
I get the following prices when I go to Carsdirect.com:
For a 2001 Elantra,Auto,CA Emis,Mud Guards,Mats, Package 5.
Zip:91773 San Dimas, CA
CD Price=$13,243, MSRP=$15,182, Invoice=$14,343
Zip:30092 Norcross, GA
CD Price=$14,143, MSRP=$15,182, Invoice=$14,343
Zip:02101 Boston, MA
CD Price=$14,043, MSRP=$15,182, Invoice=$14,343
Zip:45201 Cincinnati, OH
CD Price=$14,143, MSRP=$15,182, Invoice=$14,343
MSN Carpoint Pricing: MSRP=$15,182 Invoice=$13,953
Hyundaiusa.com Pricing MSRP=$14,625 (no invoice listed)
Edmunds TMV Pricing: MSRP=$15,182 Invoice=$13,953
The only obvious CD price difference is by location, which is probably caused by how much it costs CD to ship the vehicle. Since CA is the place where the vehicles are delivered from Korea, the CD price would be the least there.
That still doesn't account for the large difference in what I am getting from CD for MSRP and Invoice compared to others on this forum.
Is it possible for CD to give different MSRP and Invoice prices based on where the Internet Query is coming from?
What do others outside San Dimas, CA get for prices when they query carsdirect?
It's to late to care about what I paid but not to late to help others, who haven't purchased yet, get the best price.
I thought it was probably a low speed crash, but your words left a large doubt in my mind.
Just wondering one thing though. Did the Elantra driver have an explanation as to why he or she backed up?
Also, Newark, NJ is another port of entry for Hyundai and that could be why you're seeing a low CD price in Massachusetts.
BTW, I paid $14,500 before t,t&l for an Elantra GT (base, auto) in northern New Jersey. I have a sinking feeling that dealers are going to start up-pricing the Elantra (esp. the GT) in my area because there is a high demand for them right now. The word is out on the Elantra.
I am planning to buy Elantra GLS 2001. my zip code is 29615 (SC). whats the good deal and where shall i find such dealer nearby my area. izzit worth to buy that car for that deal. how is the performance&resale vale of elantra?. elantra owners please help me. thanks.
A common parking lot mistake.Again,I was impressed with the lack of paint or body damage.
Don't know why I added pkg 5 to your deal.
(Brain damage from the 60s?)
I now get the following prices when I go to Carsdirect.com:
For a 2001 Elantra,Auto,CA Emis,Mud Guards,Mats
Zip:91773 San Dimas, CA
CD Price=$12,166, MSRP=$14,032, Invoice=$13,266
Zip:30092 Norcross, GA
CD Price=$13,066 MSRP=$14,032, Invoice=$13,266
Zip:02101 Boston, MA
CD Price=$12,966, MSRP=$14,032, Invoice=$13,266
Zip:45201 Cincinnati, OH
CD Price=$13,066 MSRP=$14,032, Invoice=$13,266
Zip:29615 ?, SC (added for vnatarajan)
CD Price=$13,066 MSRP=$14,032, Invoice=$13,266
MSN Carpoint Pricing: MSRP=$14,032 Invoice=$12,907
Hyundaiusa.com Pricing MSRP=$13,299 (no dealer options installed, no invoice listed)
Edmunds: TMV=$13,056 MSRP=$14,032 Invoice=$12,907
So the dealer cost now was only $12,500 that means they seem to have taken a $1500 loss on the sale. (wish I could have gotten that)
A question was asked about resale value and although I am not an Elantra owner, I did have access to the answer so I thought I would give it.
so wat!.... u can answer eventho u r not owner of elantra!...it seems that resale value is lesser than honda! anyway thank u!
Who in their right mind pays 17 grand for an Economy car? Thats what an equally equipped civic as an Elantra would cost. Close to 5 grand more. 5 years from now at the rate Hyundai is going, they will buy back consumer confidence as Honda did in the late 70s/early 80s. Then Honda will get the shock of its life when if FINALLY realizes that they can't sell an econobox for 17 grand
hyundai will beat on honda anyday, never lost to one but hey i live on Long Island where people think rims add 15hp and colored honda symbol gives them the right to drive like idiots thru heavy traffic. plus hyundai is unbeatable in the torque department when compared to car in its class. exclude the sentra se because that is above its class.
The Civic EX comes with all the options I want - cruise, CD, moonroof, ABS, antitheft. Has 127 hp, gets 31/38. I'm concerned about backseat (two young children) and legroom is 36 in with hip at 50 in. Got excellent/good crash rating, and has 3yr/3yr.
The Elantra GLS with options to match Civic EX is 14,078 and that doesn't include ABS. The sunroof package overlaps with ABS package, and I can't figure out how to get both. ABS isn't a lone add-on I guess. If you added in ABS at $600, then the Elantra comes in at 14,600 loaded. Elantra back seat is 35in leg, 56 inches hip. ALso got excellent/good crash, and comes with that nice 5yr/10yr. Engine gives 140 hp, and gets 24/33 giving a cost different of $200/year in gas for 12,000 mile year. Trunk is 11 cu. ft compared to 12.9 in the civic (strollers/cribs etc.)
So - the difference in price is $2000 and doesn't include ABS in Elantra for similarly equipped vehicles. THe GT is only $1000 less, but you get the hatch. Yes - I'm bugged everyone drives a Civic, but the reliability and resale contribute to that. I like the Elantra styling too - but not sure if $2000 less is worth the risk in reliability. Yes the warranty is great - but having your car in the shop is a major pain, as is breaking down.
So...I'm going to test drive both of course. I want to like the Elantra, because I could use the savings up front. I plan to drive the car for at least 7-8 years, so resale not as big an issue - but admittedly still counts.
Just wanted to get some facts out there in the hopes of continuing this dialogue.
Thanks
Does anyone know a good Hyundai dealer (who will make a great deal) in Kentucky, Tennessee, North Alabama, or North Georgia?
Thanks in advance for any help!
