The transmission will also adjust to your driving style. Whether that will improve the abruptness of the engine braking I'm not sure. I don't recall having a problem with it in my 04 EX-L sedan that I drove for 20,000 miles.

I noticed the same thing. Usually in traffic, while going around 40 Mph and lifting of the gas, will feel like baking.
When I brought it to the dealer, mechanic sad that it was a downshift fro 3rd to 2nd.
I find it a bit odd.

As for the other post about Grade Logic Control.. This is exactly what it supposed to prevent. And most of my observations of this, were on leveled road.

When one lacks trust in the company making a product, it makes sense to buy something else. No machine is perfect and a company that discovers problems and fixes them before they become an inconvenience or expense is as much as can be expected. When operating as intended, Honda vehicles are superior to most others--that's why there are so many of them on U.S. roads.

In 1966, I had "issues" with a new Ford Fairlane that was as horrible as a new car can be. Fortunately, it was a company car (used exclusively by me) and I hated it. My solution to the problem was to ignore Ford cars from that time on.

Sure, Fords have improved since 1966 and my last car was a Mazda which is a partly Ford-owned company that shares engineering and parts. That almost kept me from buying the Mazda which was an excellent car. One of the reasons that I bought an Accord is that the new Mazda 6 has too much Ford in it.

The point is that if you disagree with the manufacturer about enough aspects of their products, don't buy their cars. There are plenty of alternatives.......Richard

    Hi Gregoryc1:

I cannot link it but the 05’s on forward using the third working geared shaft and the jet kit seemed to have cured Honda/Acura of their tranny issues according to the tech’s that work on them. ToV and Drive Accord.net have the details. Only time will tell however?

    Good Luck

Thanks for ponting me to the Honda sight- that definetly seems to be the issue( grade logic kicking in). I've had my EX-L V6 for about 3 days know and can't remember a car being more fun! Over the past 16 years I've had three Grand AMs,1 Impala, two Tauras,1 Malibu and 1 LeBaron SedanGTS with a 4cylinder Turbo as company cars. The only other fun car was the Chrysler Lebaron GTS .

By the way, how does one store favorite XM sations?
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
You use the preset buttons just as you would with AM/FM. Find a station you like and then hold down the buttons 1-6 to save them. There are two XM bands so you can save a total of 12 stations. Although, you can use the tune/seek button on the left side of the stereo to scan through the different types of music such as country, folk, urban, rock, hits, etc. if you run out of presets.

    All,

I'm wondering how decent is the '03 - 05 Honda Accord's security system. I know that it includes the Immobilizer Theft-Deterrent System, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anyone had his/her Accord stolen with the Honda security system armed?
  • satchelsatchel Member Posts: 7
Do all dealers put these on just to jack the price? I'm trying to buy an accord now but they all have 2 to 3 grand of these options that I do not want.
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
Most of the stuff dealers add to cars before they're sold is pure, worthless, price-packing junk.

Make your deal on the Accord you want as if it had NO dealer added items--let the dealer remove the junk or give you whatever they've tacked on free or you'll go elsewhere. Don't fall for price-packing silliness!

Accords are wonderful cars, but they're not scarce and they're currently selling for less than prices were 18 months ago.

Again, walk away before you pay for ANY dealer added $#@*&!......Richard

Has anyone modified their factory stereo to receive Sirius? I checked the search function but I didn't see where anyone had done it.

Hi All, just got a new Accord EX and was wondering how you set your EQ and your Fader setting on your Radio?

The Radio sounds pretty good, but I was wondering how to make it better...Anyone have any hints.

    Thanks
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    satchel:

I don't believe that it's possible to modify Honda's great integrated XM satellite radio to work with Sirius. Why bother? XM has loads of wonderful programming, and costs three dollars less per month pre-discount.

You could always add a Sirius hang-on unit if you couldn't live without their programming.
  • satchelsatchel Member Posts: 7
Sirius has NFL and NBA which I love as opposed to MLB and Nascar which I do not care for. I read somewhere back in the logs of this forum that you could get an adapter, but I didn't seewhere anyone had actually installed it.

I could not duplicate the symptom described with my 03EXV6 (12K miles) this weekend. The only thing I have noticed is if I'm accelrating hard and abruptly take my foot off the gas pedal then I can feel a bit of engine braking. That's understable.
Didn't feel any engine braking when crusing at 40 or 80 mph then take my foot of the gas.

How does the mpg compare in the TSX auto and the Accord I4 auto? On paper the Accord is rated better in Hwy driving (34 vs. 32). Do the owners of these vehicles find that highway figure to be accurate in each vehicle?
The TSX weighs more than the Accord but yet the TSX is approx. 6 inches shorter. What is the reason for this? What is heavier in the TSX than in the Accord?
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
for anyone to post the answer to that question is in our Honda Accord vs Acura TSX discussion. (Fred also asked there, so check it out!)

Our TSX discussion has already gotten sidetracked with Accord comparisons, let's don't sidetrack this one as well with TSX comparisons.

(And yeah, if anyone saw my earlier post here, you saw me getting all tangled up with TSX and Accord conversations busting out all over. :D)

    See ya over there!

I am buying a 2005 Accord LX this week.

    1. the dealer has asked me to buy the protection package. I saw a few post about this and some said it's a rip off. Any more opinions?

    2. the LX doesn't come with a ceiling cover for the trunk. Is this true? Is it worth it to buy from the dealer?

    3. I am interested in getting the metal trim kit, but I find it is too expensive buying from the dealer. Any ideas?

    4. How easy is it to get the outdoor temp. gauge installed?
    Thanks alot!
  • venus537venus537 Member Posts: 1,443
    1) it's a rip off
    2) true, no
    3) skip it
    4) WARNING, this is an evasive answer -try to spring for an EX model. in my opinion the extra cost is well worth while for all the goodies you get including the outside temp gauge.

    here, i'll tempt you:

alloy wheels, 6 disk CD changer, 4 wheel disk brakes, power moonroof, better seat cloth, steering wheel controls and ceiling cover for the trunk!

if you're concern about cost just remember you'll get more for your car at trade in time. no, i'm not a sales man. good luck with whatever honda you get.
  • venus537venus537 Member Posts: 1,443
the items you're considering for addition will add virtually nothing to the re-sale value of the car.

How much more is an EX from the LX-I4(and LX-V6)?
  • accordmqaccordmq Member Posts: 28
Do all EX have trunk ceiling cover?
My plain 2004 EX 4 cyl Auto (no leather or navi) does not have it. Just wondering if it is supposed to have one.
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
I'd aim for the Accord EX...

and if you get the gray or black interior, you'll get some of the metal trim that you wanted..plus it has more features.
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
My '04 EX-L sedan (4 cyl W/leather) does not have trunk lid ceiling cover. An '05 V6 EX I saw did have the ceiling cover....Richard
  • satchelsatchel Member Posts: 7
I got the metal trim kit and I love it. Try to negotiate it after they give you a hard figure and you can get it for less usually.
  • ezpassezpass Member Posts: 10
Sound interesting, can you post a picture of the metal kit?

    I have a Accord 2005 ex-v6

We are interested in purchasing a new Accord EX V6. My husband saw one with the ivory interior and wood trim that he really liked.(I think it was the hybrid, which he does not want) I don't see it as an option on the Honda site. Is it an option through dealers or something? Thanks!
  • psypsy Member Posts: 122
I think your feeling driveline lash... Its common in manual trany cars. Its always less, say in a front wheel drive car than say a rear wheel drive car or even a truck.

It shouldnt be real bad. In any case. I drive a 4 banger ranger back and forth to work. It has the worse drive line lash Ive ever seen. not to mention the 5 speed trany is the worst Ive ever driven. At 112k on it nothing has torn up and one learns to keep the driveline loaded. you can expect junk from a car with a american name badge on it.

But I would be very upset if a new honda had it to the point the ranger does.

Sorry to hear of your problem

I'm interested in an Accord EX sedan. I'm probably going to hold out for the '06 facelift that's due to arrive later this year. I definitely want the EX but I don't want leather, nav or V6. I went to a local dealer to just look around at their inventory and couldn't even find a generic 4-cyl EX that doesn't have leather. What's the craze with leather? And is it true that the outside temp gauge isn't standard on the base EX model? It's a feature I would like to have - hell, it's a standard feature on my Corolla LE. It's standard on the Camry. You'd think Honda would put it on the Accord. Is it really a hassle to have this feature installed??? I'd rather have it put in at the factory instead of dealer-installed.
  • venus537venus537 Member Posts: 1,443
the wood (really plastic looking as wood) trim is standard on all EX trims with the ivory interior.

there is a dealer (at our local dealer anyway) installed "wood" option that would add even more wood. in my opinion it gets to be gaudy at this point and is grossly over priced.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
A lot of people opt for the leather because it offers a pretty decent upgrade for the $$$. You get dual-zone climate control, XM radio, heated seats, power driver's seat, and the leather of course.

The outside temp gauge is a fairly easy upgrade from what I understand. Also, if it installed by your Honda dealer it will be covered under the factory warranty.

Interior color is determined by the exterior color. All beige have the wood look while black and grey have the brushed metal look. I got the Green Pearl w/ the Ivory interior and love it.
  • accordcanadaaccordcanada Member Posts: 5
    Hi All,
    Thanks for your replies.

Has anyone tried to install the outside temp gauge? Is it easy?

    Thanks.

I'm closing in on buying an 05 EX V6 with navigation. I had a nice but young salesperson who told me that the stock, in dash 6 disc changer would also play mp3 CDs. I have a hard time believing this as Honda offers a seperate mp3 player as an option on this trim level. Can anyone offer any insight?

Is there a Manufacturer-to-Dealer incentive on the Accord? If so, how much is it?
  • tampamantampaman Member Posts: 9
Last Wed. I was driving my '03 Accord EX in the Tampa area when the passenger side airbag suddenly deployed for no apparent reason,,no debris in the roadway,,ran over nothing. Car is 18 mo old but has just turned 40k. I had purchased a 100K Honda Care extended warranty for $1380.00 at the time of purchase. Brandon dealer tells me car is out of warranty, Honda Care does not cover airbags,,will cost you 12-15 hundred to have it repaired. I am livid. This should not happen to a car 18 months old,,no matter the miles. Has anyone heard of any similar problems. Comments appreciated. BTW,,does everyone know that Honda Care has NO contractual agreement with Honda,,it is a totally separate insurance company.
  • chucko3chucko3 Member Posts: 793
I would give Honda Auto Customer Service a call.
The defect may fall under repairs beyond the limited warranty, page 7 of the warranty booklet.

I'm an old geezer who does know how to use an iMac and I'll tell you that I converted a bunch of midis (not sound files) to sound files that I then converted to MP3s, and the CD I made works well in my 2004 Accord EX-L's CD player. Other MP3 CDs work well, too.

I really prefer the XM radio to CDs anyway (partial to Channel 28 and Broadway show music), but your MP3 CDs should work just fine in the Accord's CD changer.

The "nice but young salesperson"--surely younger than my 66 years--is correct.

My suggestion is to make an MP3 CD, try it in an Accord CD changer, and when it works as it surely will, buy the car which will be among the best cars you've ever owned...Richard
  • xcelxcel Member Posts: 1,025
    Hi Richards38:

Whoooaaa. I am not exactly sure what you are doing but does the 6-disc CD-Changer in the Accord EX on up play native MP3’s (*.mp3) or are you converting your MP3’s to CDA format? If it is the latter, no thanks as the quality sucks big time. If it is the former, hot damn, there is something no one knew anything about!

    Good Luck

    Wayne R. Gerdes
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
I hope I wasn't misleading--thought the question was whether CDs made from MP3s would play in the Accord's in-dash changer. They do, indeed.

With respect to playing MP3s directly into the Accord's sound system, I know nothing about that........Richard

I actually installed an outside temperature gauge kit twice - once on an '05 LX and then 5 weeks later I removed all the parts when I traded for an '05 LX-V6 and I installed the same parts again on the new car.

I didn't find it particularly difficult - the worst part was getting the lower dashboard panel off. The second time, I prepared myself with two extra little metal spring-clips ($0.52 each at the dealer) to replace ones that I figured I'd break based on my first experience. Sure enough, I broke two. During reinstallation of the dashboard panel, I put a dab of white lithium grease on each spring-clip so that they'd slide out easier if I ever have to take the panel off again.

On a shade tree mechanic's scale of 1 to 5 (where 1 is easy and 5 is an all-day nightmare), I'd rate this job as a "2".

I think we have all heard the rumors of the revised headlights and tail lights on the '06 Accord.

What are the chances some significant technology might be added like VSA (vehicle stability assist) or direct injection on the motor?

also, when will the accord be equipted with an automatic transmission with a manuel shift gate ?
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
    Ramida,

I think I understand your problem. You are in your highest gear ( I assume 5th on a manual shift 4 cylinder). And you brake and slow down considerable so that your rpm falls somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 rpm = 30-45 mph. When you step on the gas you get a hesitation. I think maybe you engine is lugging and you could solve the problem by downshifting to 4th gear in these situations.

    Hope this idea helps!.

    Thanks,

    MidCow the Manual Shift Man.

If it's not the genuine Honda aftermarket kit, don't buy it. Not knowing better, I got the off-brand kit from eBay and was disappointed to a point that I didn't install it.

The material is vinyl-based (soft) and the exposed surfaces have a thin clear layer that - if you have the EX that has the factory trim - makes it look cheap in comparison.

Go for the original kit that dealers can sell at 25% off when motivated. I got my original Honda aftermarket kit for $125.00 on eBay.
