I just purchased a 2001 I30. When we finally got to the F/I guy, he told me that they were removing the security systam but will put it back for $395. Is this a usual practice? Does anyone out there have a similar experience?. Edmunds said that this is standard eqpt on the new car. If so, should they remove it? I'm checking before i call the dealer.
Otherwise, I'll go out an put on an aftermarket system. Thanks for your feedback
Looking at buying a 1998 I30 with 50K for $12,000 versus 2000 with 53k for 16,500. Both with sunroofs. I am looking to put about 70K-80K in the next 5 years.
Also in the running is am '01 Toyota Avalon with 64K lthr, etc and no sunroof.
Opinions? Anything specific to look for as far as reliability and avoiding major $$$ in repairs?
"zeliforp - the current iteration of the I35 is being carried over as a 2004 model. Infiniti has already announced it "
Yep. If you read my post above yours, I mentioned:
"The I35 will be sold through next year... until supply runs out "
If anyone here is interested in what we oops I mean they have been showing to select folks at product design previews in terms of the 'potential' M45 and M35 (the latter which will replace the I35), do a keyword search on Edmunds for "Nissan Fuga". Or just look here: http://www.edmunds.com/news/autoshows/articles/100643/page007.htm
Imagine what an Infiniti symbol would look like in place of the Nissan hamburger icon. Also envision options of a vq35de or vh45 powerplant.
And Ummm... I wouldn't count on the "straight off the FX45 concept" lazer-beam headlights.
It depaends what you mean by "replace". The I35 designation will disappear and an M35 will appear. The M35 will be a rear wheel drive rather than the front wheel drive of the I35.
I mean that a new model comes out, while the model that was in the same price range and targeted the same people disappears. The I35 is a little out of date. The only real close competitor would be the Lexus ES330, a way better car but the ES330 costs more $$$$$.
The Teana is the Australian Maxima. Insider news says that the Teana has a pretty good chance of becoming the next I35 in America. We do know that the Fugo is the next M35/45. So Infiniti should have some pretty exciting models to come!
will the M35/G35 and I35 all co-exist? Or will the I35 be dropped? Where will each of them stand price wise? Where does the M35 fit into the equasion? 5-Series competitor?
If the Teana does become the next I35, how will the Fuga/M35 (about the same size) fit in?? Nissan/Infiniti already has too many cars about the same size with the same engine!!
The I35 is being dropped at the end of the 2004 model year. There is not going to be and Infiniti car designated as an "I35". The Nissan Fuga with become the Infiniti M35/M45. The Teana is not going to become an Infiniti in any shape or form. The stated aim of Infiniti is to have a line of RWD and AWD vehicles only.
The Teana is offered with AWD as an option. fwiw - personally I tend to agree the introduction of the M35 will bring the demise of the I35. But, one really can't say with certainty at this point. There certainly were a lot of naysayers claiming the I35 would not continue as a 2004 model.
The Teana is not going to replace the I35. How many more times does it need to be said. There is going to be no more I35. The only Infiniti 3.5L sedans for 2005 will be the G35 and the M35 (Fuga).
the I35 does not really belong in the Infiniti line, as Infiniti wants to go RWD or RWD biased AWD and the Maxima platform will only allow the I35 to go so far. So I'm guessing the I35 will be cut.
I am original owner of I-30 with 155,000 trouble free (except c/v joints) miles. I am beginning to wonder when my electric fuel pump will quit. Would love to know if anyone has had their fuel pump quit and if so at what milege. Thanks!
Have any of you driven the competition you listed and checked out the accessories for the $$ ? I drove the SAAB (clunky,no class) and the Volvo S60 (too small) and S80 (no giddyup) and the Lincoln LS (RWD is awful in snow/ice) and passed on the Acura & Lexus line because the options weren't there (such as no folding rear seats). The G35 feels more like a car you should have in college, not as a professional or anyone over the age of 25. I hate to see the I35 go, it seemed to have it all in one neat package--despite the awful dealers.
what is your average miles per gallon? I just calculated mine today, it average 18.5 mpg with highway/local combined, that is not very good. Obviously the computer reading is not accurate, and i never depend on it.
I had my I35 right front axle changed at less than 1000 miles, i wonder if that causes any adverse effect against mileage.
The car's computer is actually pretty accurate on MPG. Remember, it is calculating during stops at traffic lights, acceleration from stops or to highway speeds, idles, everything. Kind of like the average speed indicator. After a road trip your average speed really wasn't 25mph, but it takes into consideration time stopped, acceleration, deceleration, etc. If you want to know your true highway MPG best bet is to reset the computer while driving at highway speeds. My I35 sport varies on the highway from 24 to 29, but even highway driving in Boston is like driving a NASCAR demolition derby so my readings include stomping the gas AND brake.
I think 18.5 MPG actually sounds about average. The I35 is rated by the EPA at 20 City/26 Highway. That V6 is pretty big and way powerful.
The EPA testing uses very mild driving techniques and even though they make adjustments to get the figures closer to real world experience, I have never experienced a car that did as well as the EPA estimates in overall driving. Occasionally, I have exceeded EPA highway estimates on long trips where I filled up on the road and had experienced nothing except steady highway cruising.
My car is rated at 22 City/28 Highway and I generally get between 19-21 MPG with a combo of city street and urban highway driving. On pure highway driving I get about 25 MPG. I check my mileage every time I fill up. I drive fairly aggressively and fast - usually 8 or 9 miles over the limit in town and between 75 & 80 MPH on the highway.
I did a Google search for the 2005 M35 and came up with this link to several photos of the exterior and interior. My apologies if this is old news...I'm new to this group. I have a 2000 I30 and was hoping that Infiniti would come out with a car larger that the G35 to "replace" the I series. The M35 appears to be exactly what I was looking for. I hope they have one at the NY auto show in April.
I am planning to buy the 04-I35 just for the value it has to offer for the price. I am getting a 04 I35 for $27,200 from dealers in NY & NJ with cold weather package does not include tax & registration. How does the deal sound?
Hi, I am looking to buy a used 1998 I-30 with 38000 miles from a dealer. Its an automatic with leather, Bose sound system and Good Year tires. No dents or scratches, silver in color for $10,700. Any advice. Thanks
Sounds like a great deal. Go for it. I may be in the market in May or June, and I'm considering the I35 for the room and value. (you get a ton of stuff for the price- Acura can't even match that)
I just got the 2004 I35 it is great value for money and I would argue has great luxury and power for the money you pay. Here is what I paid for the car with cold weather package in total $26,791 + Tax + registration total walkout with the car as $28,548.46. This site has been really very helpfull during my buying process.
Great deal! I thought you were buying at the $27,200. How did you get it lower? What was MSRP on that one? I have heard that the mpg is lower with the 3.5L engine than the earlier 3.0L engine. Please tell us later your mpg with approx. 50/50 city-highway.
I kept getting quotes from delaers and they have a good cash back from Infiniti that helped me get that price. The MSRP on the car was approx $32,000. I have just driven the car for 100 miles with 50/50 mix of highway & local roads and my current mileage is 23MPG.
is the steep depreciation. But then again, I easily throw 100,000 miles on a car (the family car and my commuter, it doesn't matter) in less than seven years.
I've been shopping for a 1996-199 I30 or I30t and came across a white 97 with Black Leather and an integrated phone. Is this leather a standard color for this year or was it specially made? The price is $7200 and has 97000 miles. Car is very clean and has been serviced only by Nissan or Infinit. Thanks.
I have a 2000 I30. Bought it new. In the last 4 months it has been idling rough in the mornings and sometimes dies. It also hesitates when quick acceleration is needed. Its still under warranty and the dealer has had it for a month with no luck. They keep trying different things. They even contacted techs in California to see what they recommend. I wonder if others are having the problem or if my dealer is inept. Any advise is appreciated. Thank goodness they are letting me drive a G35 loaner.
My 2000 I30's "Service Engine Soon" light came on and the Infiniti Dealer said the ignition coils need to be replaced at a cost of about $800. They also said it is not covered by the 4 yrs./60,000 miles basic coverage since this warranty expired back in January. I thought it should be covered by the 5 yrs./50,000 miles New Vehicle Emission Control Warranty (of course, the dealer said no too). I found this info. out from the I30 brochure (I cannot locate the Warranty Information Booklet). I called Infiniti this morning and am still waiting for the reply. Anyone of you has similar experience? Anyone of you has the 2000 Infiniti Warranty Information Booklet and checks this out for me? Thanks.

But I've said enough. That is all.
I have a 2001 I30 and the security system is in fact standard equipment.
It sounds to me like that dealership is trying to pull a fast one and make an easy $395 for something that is completely inappropriate and fraudulent.
My advice..... find yourself another dealership to do business with.
Good luck and happy motoring.

Can you advise mpg?
