I very recently purchased a 2000 Toyota Siena and its not the purchase price I want to comment on, but the financing. It was a Sunday and I had no way of verifying the interest rate of my credit union. I informed both the manager and the financial person that I would like to check with my credit union the following morning, but they showed me a published rate in a book of 9.75 and said they could beat it at 9.5 and we signed. In checking with my credit union the following morning, the rate we could received with our circumstances was 7.99%. It took us two days to hear from Toyota West - and then they blamed it all on the credit union - stating the credit unions don't publish their "current" rates - but he banked with my credit union himself and knew this fact and still deceived us - so please be warned - I should have known better - they will get you from any angle they can! I thought once the deal was made, the hard part was over - WAS I EVER FOOLED!!!!
Bought my Sienna in February 2000. Sticker was $32,100 and final price was $28,300. I had shopped around and got a good deal. I estimate $900 dealer profit, which is fair. They tried to get me for $31,500. It took 4 times of ritualistic manager discussions to do it. They would have done it more times but I told the salesman he had one more shot at it. I could have went one more time but felt sorry for the sales guy. I am a fellow sales person so I let it go at $28,300.
Financing was similar. They came out with 8.75 but I quickly brought them to 7.0. My credit was good and that meant alot to them.
Just bought a XLE with TO (Towing Pkg), AJ (Power Sliding Door) and L1 (Leather). Used the internet and e-mail to negotiate down to $26,360 for the van. Went to sign the paperwork and I presented them with the $150 voucher. They didn't like it but after I threatened to call the attorneys that were responsible for the settlement they caved. They kept saying "It's only $150". Funny how the $150 is no big deal when I have to eat it but they act like I'm going to put them out of business if they have to. I kept telling them to not balme me for Toyota's screw up I was just taking advantage of it. Final price paid was $26,210 or $146 over invoice.
Financed through giggo.com. Applied through Lending Tree.com and had four offers from various lenders in a matter of hours. Accepted the offer from giggo at 7.95% for 60 months. I highly recommend using Lending Tree or giggo.com it made the financing as smooth as silk. They even beat the best offer that Toyota Motor Credit had by nearly .5%.
Patty, not sure where the extra $400 is coming from. I did the original math and it seemed to work out, but did a recalculation (based on your input) and did find an "extra" $400. Perhaps this is advertising fees. I talked to many dealers and they all gave me the same invoice price of $23.4K. In the end, I still feel that I got a good deal ($23.8K) and the dealership in San Rafael was very low hassle. Sorry can't give you more information but we are expecting our second baby in a few days and things are quite hectic.
My wife and I have been offered a Sienna Le with UN, TO, EF, GN, V5(or VIP Plus security system) and a two year maintanence program with 24 hour service for 24,600 plus T,T and Title. Is this a good price? We have been on an Odyssey waiting list for over six weeks now and still have five weeks before our odyssey is to arrive. We are tired of waiting and like the extra features on the Sienna. Our overall price is $26,000 for everything. Please give us feedback. Thanks in advance.
I've got the same deal from R&G and I think the $400 is the destination charge. By the way, I live in Sunnyvale. Do any of you know if it is possible to pick up the car in nearby city without having two people driving to San Rafael? Thanx.
I AM IN THE MARKET FOR A TOYOTA SIENNA, BUT SINCE IT IS SO CLOSE TO THE NEW MODEL YEAR(SEPTEMBER), ARE MY CHANCES BETTER IN GETTING A BETTER PRICE IF I WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER OR AUGUST? OR WILL THE DEALER EVER GO LOWER THAN THE INVOICE PRICE?
I test drove the Sienna last week and really enjoyed what I saw..I know it lacks some of the Odyssey and Windstar niceties, but I think it would be a great family (of 4) vehicle..it does seem a bit overpriced for what you get in comparison to some of the other minis (MPV, Quest and Windstar) but is tops on my list because of Toyota's reputation for longevity & safety..I like keeping my vehicles for 100K miles and more..the Honda badge also reassures me of longevity & quality but I am not in the mindset to pay MSRP and above... One feature few have commented on in regards to "value" is the high priced entertainment systems in some other minis- Windstar/Quest..does anyone think these are really worth the extra $1200?
I think $1200 for an entertainment system is too much. I would recommend one of the small VCR/TV combinations from SONY or a generic. We received one for Christmas and can't live without it. The only major concern was how to keep it safe if we were ever in an accident. I really don't want a twenty pound object bouncing around in the car. What I ended up doing was lashing the VCR/TV to a wooden board and then lashed that to some anchors on the front seats. The only benefit of the built in system would be the convenience and safety. But for $1200?
Bayridge Toyota in Brooklyn N.Y.C. makes deal they don't intend to keep.I Purchased a Toyota sienna from this dealership for $27,120 on may 13 2000 and was told 4 weeks for delivery. After 4 weeks with no response from dealership I constantly called and finally got the car to come into the dealership another 4 weeks later and was told it's ready for pickup. although frustrated, I went to pickup the vehicle and they had the gall to tell me the price is increased $1000 dollars. What crooks ! I'm currently reporting them to the better business Bureau and seeking other legal services. this is definitely profit discrimination. Stay away from Bayridge Toyota!!!!!!!!
I am pursuing a 2000 Sienna but hit a price rock with 3 dealerships in the Philly areas. Anyone has any recommendation on a reasonable dealership in the Philly? Thanks!
I purchased a Toyota Sienna LE in Naperville, IL the other day. The car included the LE Upgrade package (keyless, captains chairs, etc.), a center console, and a bumper protector. The car, including destination, was $24071 before tax. That was the initial offer the dealer made, and it was so close to my calculations and the Edmunds TMV I didn't even bother to haggle. With tax, docs, and new plates, the total was about $25900. My credit union was offering 8.75 financing for 60 months, and the Toyota dealership went down to 8.0, so I financed there. Nice people to work with, no pressure on extendeds, rust and soundproofing, etc. An overall enjoyable experience, which is much different than my other experiences with Toyota dealerships.
Sounds like you're buying my van. But it was Star Toyota of Bayside and NOT Bay Ridge Toyota that I bought from. I, too, walked out of Bay Ridge Toyota dealership after they couldn't (wouldn't?) explain a $400 "FIE" fee and told me I wasn't ready to buy with the offer I made. Funny how Star not only knew I was ready but sold me the van at my offering price. Still sounds like you got a good deal with Carsdirect.com., even with the added fees.
Oh yeah, my mistake about the dealers. I re-read your post, and we do indeed have the same vehicle. How's it going so far? Everybody happy with the van? I'll wave at you on the Belt Pkwy.
purchased a LE Sienna tonight. It has UN, TO, EF, GN, V5 and a two year maintanence program which guarentees oil changes at 16.88 for life. We paid 24,600 plus T,T, and T. Is this a good deal? We also bought the 7 year/100,000 mile warranty for 1350.00. It has zero deductible. Is this a good deal on the warranty? Does anyone know the actual invoice for this minivan?
2000 LE 22148 UN Pkg 271 TO 128 EF 36 GN 30 V5 155 Dest Chrg 480
Total Invoice: 23248
These numbers are all from Edmunds...They are very accurate (of course dealers will tell you they are not). As far as the warranty goes..... last November (when we purchased our van, our dealer was offering the 7 year no deductible for $650.00 Supposedly this was some half-price special. We declined. Enjoy your Sienna...we love ours!
Reading over this page and the Honda Odyssey page over the past couple of weeks, it looks like a lot of people are unhappy with the dealers. For anyone near Oklahoma City, try Fowler Toyota. Jared, Shannon, and Laferil treated me fairly, gave me a great deal, and went the extra mile. When the new Sienna I ordered showed up, it had a bad dent in it. Instead of dickering about it, they willingly found another one for me. The second one had more options than I wanted (to pay for), so they split some of the option prices with me. I couldn't be happier with a dealer!!!
Did your van have the Gulf's States Toyota rip off crap on it? If you do not know what I am talking about look at your window sticker. Useless items for lots of money. INKY
We bought a 2000 LE last night for $24,994, which includes UN, UR, V5, TDA, Destination Charges, everything other than the government stuff. I got this price by offering an initial $23,000 as per Edmund's recommended 3% addition to invoice, and a little bit more for options. I dealt with Wilkins Toyota in Inver Grove Heights, MN (USA), and it was totally hassle-free. They ran with my initial offer and everything was so easy it made me nervous. Now we're just waiting for delivery.
We just bought a 2000 Sienna LE using the emailshopper method. Thank you for posting it here - the process was a breeze, and left us feeling much better about the price than if we reached it by haggling with a single dealer.
Sent a single email to 12 select dealerships in the area (used reports at http://www.dc.bbb.org), of which 9 responded within 14 hours. Quotes (all fees included) ranged from 2.37% ($569) to 4.08% ($982) over total invoice (base+options+destination+TDA).
Lessons learned: - Internet and other (e.g., CarMax) huggle-free prices can be easily beat! - If you are going to use the $150 discount certificate, order it early; though ordered in time for (and specifying) Saturday delivery, it did not arrived. - Newly delivered Siennas in this area come with GF (Full Tank of Fuel), and some with DK (Owner Portfolio). Though appear as free of charge on the sticker, the invoice included $7 for DK, $6 for GF. - Provide a "template" of the response format you want; Though we were specific in our wording, at least half of the dealers did not provide the information we requested in their initial response. - Make sure ALL FEES are included in the price you get; two dealers tried to quote a price without their "processing fee", that ranged (in Virginia) from $142 to $289. - Don't shy away from using the phone if needed. A dealer lowered the quote by $200 when we phoned to question the accuracy of the numbers. - Remember, email method only deals with sale price; Be prepared for dealer to spend hours trying to sell you "protection" packages ($1059!), security/LoJack systems ($759!), and extended warranties ($1599!). Same policy as with drugs: JUST SAY NO [THANKS], even if they offer you them at "dealer cost" *yeah, right* - Dealer will bend the truth to try and sell you these extras: Since "factory bumper-to-bumper warranty will only cover defects", get extended warranty [which also doesn't cover wear&tear items]; You must have undercarriage protection since "the underside is bare metal" [even if true, it is a zinc alloy which is rustproof]; Get a security system, since "vans are in the top 5 car types stolen" [I'm guessing sedans, motercycles, trucks, and busses are the other four!]. - If you are shopping in Northern Virginia, note that there is 3% Virginia tax, 0.1701% County tax, and Tags/License are $38.50. Suspect same true for other parts of Virginia.
Question: has anyone been able to get a dealer to drop the TDA (Toyota Dealer Advertizing) fee, or otherwise sell a brand new Sienna LE for less than total invoice? None in this area seem to be willing to.
Just closed a deal for LE with UN,TO,V5 with $23700 plus $40 doc+tax, title. First sent 10 e-mails to local dealers and got the quota $23400 +plus tax, title, but need few weeks order. Then went to Ann Arbor dealer to let them match this quota. After 2 hours struggle, the deal was made with this van and will pick-up tomorrow. Financed though my credit union with 8% APR. I learned a lot from this news group. and thank those guys posting their experiences and advice. I feel this deal is good.
Going to be buying one of these in the next few months. Anyone know some dealers that offer some competitively priced vehicles? Will also try the e-mail method suggested by response #153.
$23,933- LE w/TO,UN & UP(incl. SouthEast & destination fee) $199- doc fee $1,689- sales tax at 7% $22- title and registration ------------------------------------- $25,843- drive out with no trade.
My wife and I went to look at a 2000 XLE at a local dealer after we had deal fell through with an internet buying service. The XLE had 1k miles on it and it came with the power door and sunroof package. The dealer wanted 26,600 for it which was about 1% over his invoice price. His invoice price included the Southeastern Distributor charges which was around $800. This Southeastern Distributor is a total rip-off. If you buy a Toyota in the southern states you will have to pay these charges. Something should be done about this, we need to write to our local congressman.
Anyway, we made the deal and took the van home that night. We had to return back to the dealership the next day since we still owed him some money. As we were driving there, my wife found a bill of sale to another customer in the glove box. It seemed we were driving a used vehicle! So this is how the van had 1k miles on it! We were upset and showed the bill of sale to the sales manager. The sales manager said the vehicle was not used since the title did not go through DMV. He offered to give us our money back or take $800 off of the price. The new price $25800 was under his invoice so we took his offer.
We just bought a new Sienna in Southeast region also. To my knowledge, all Toyotas sold in the USA have a distributor charge. Here in the Southeast the distributor is Jim Moran. By the way, I'd be a bit skeptical about buying a vehicle that is considered "new", which should be on your buyers order, that was previously sold, regardless of whether a title had been issued. Had the title been applied for and just not issued? I'd also call the original buyer and find out why they sold it so soon. Be aware of the torque converter problem also, especially if your van was manufactured in May, June or July '00.
We have been using the email method to contact dealers in our area and have received a number of responses. Most say that the 2001 models are due out in a week or 2, but they do not have the prices yet. They also say there are few, if any, of the model with the options that we are looking for. When I respond that we are happy to wait for a factory order, their return emails do not respond to this. Instead they offer a different 2000 model/options or tell me they will let me know when the new ones are in. I had thought that the Toyotas didn't bring out their new model for about 6 weeks. We were trying to buy a 5 door CE with HV in a specific color. Is anybody else having this problem? Is it too late to expect a dealer to order a 2000 model? Thanks for any insight you can give.
I had a big situation with bayridge toyota (comment #188 in this topic)but one call to the vice president and problem solved. They gave my original deal for A sienna le with UR, UN and cargonet for 24,915.Tax And Title 27,120.All said and done It shouldn't have gotten to this point.I even contacted the bbb.If you go to this dealership be careful and do your homework. This dealer is still suspicious in my mind.I would like to thank the vp for his help in solving my situation, I'll give them that.
The short answer is yes. I have been seeking a 5-door CE and have been told by 2 dealers I will have to wait for the 2001 models. They will start being delivered to dealers in August. A price increase is planned. However, there are some 2000 4-door CEs left, as well as the LE and XLEs.
We are considering buying one of the remaining 4-door Sienna CEs with HV (extra value) and EF (bumper protection). We have been quoted a price of 4% over invoice by a dealer, which I think is high. The 4-door Siennas are being phased out and , from what I can tell, are not moving very well off the Toyota dealers lots I see. This price is a "haggle-free" Internet one, but I'm tempted to try elsewhere if we can't get a better deal. Is this realistic?
Just read your post and I also live in NoVa...could you break down what you paid and the text of what you e-mailed the dealers? We are going to buy an LE in the next few weeks...which dealership was the best? Thanks!
I have just bought 2000 Sienna CE 5 dr at invoice price. However the so called haggle-free price was 1000 more than what I paid for mine. The best thing is to get the haggle-free price and shop elsewhere. Every dealer will be eager to beat the so-called haggle-free price (It is just not going to work with the haggle-free price, in my opinion). The worst case is to pay the haggle-free price. One thing I found is to call around and tell them what offers you have got and ask for their qoute. This way you donot have to visit the dealer and play their games (save you a lot of time for sure and money). Oh, my sienna is 22300 with extra value package, security system(factory installed). In addition, they also gave me $800 for trade-in of my 88 Honda Accord LX (with 154000 miles). I am just glad to get rid of that Honda. Good luck with your shopping. BTW, I would like to know where you find out when your car was built. I want to watch out the torque converter as well. Hope Toyota has correct that by now.
We're from Missoula MT, looking for a Sienna XLE. Anyone know of a reputable dealer with good pricing in NW? If not here, am willing to travel as far E. as MN, even WI for the right package. $300 to 400 over invoice sounds just about right. Greatly appreciate any help offered. 2000 or 2001 just fine. Thanks, ---Pete
Burnsville Toyota (southern Minneapolis metro area) is quoting $300 over invoice on the LE plus $250 for advertising fee and $43 for the Title fee. License registration in MN on the Sienna is about $300 and tax is 6.5%. The options/add-ons are also figured at invoice price.
It was the best deal I was offered in the area. They have been great to work with so far. They seem to be willing to check around the 7 state area for one with the options you would like.
Our local dealer told us that there are still 2000 Siennas that are in inventory at the manufacturing site but wouldn't get to us until the end of August. I also understand from several other dealers that the 2001 Siennas are due into dealerships on August 20th.
I want an LE with leather seats. Is it possible? I did not see any option code for LE that include leather seats (like option codes LE and LL for XLE). A dealer told me that he can do that. If it is possible, then how do I figure out the invoice price for this adding (because there is no option code). I do need to buy one ASAP because 2000 LEs are fewer and fewer. Any quick response is very much appreciated.
Of the dealers we dealt with, Lustine Toyota (Woodbridge) and Miller Toyota (Manassas) were the cheapest. These two as well as Yager Toyota (Haggerstown, MD) were most willing to work with us, email and phone, to find exactly what we wanted.
The worst were the Koons (formally Kline) dealers in Arlington and Tysons. Didn't seem to care much about what we wanted versus what they had on the lot, and quoted the highest prices.
Here's the breakdown in price you requested: Base Model Invoice: $22,148 CA Emission Equipment: $ -0- TO Towing Package $ 128 UN LE Extra Value Pkg $ 271 UP LE Upgrade Pkg #1 $ 504 EF Bumper Protector $ 36 GN Cargo Net $ 27 DK Owner Portfolio $ 7 --- Destination: $ 480 TDA: $ 452 Fuel: $ 6 INVOICE TOTAL $24,059 Dealer Profit: $ 300 Dealer Processing Fee: $ 269 CASH PRICE: $24,628
Add to that 3.17% VA taxes and $38.50 title and license fees, and you get the out-the-door price.
Perhaps I am being too cynical, but if a dealer isn't giving you a hussle on dealer-add ons (extended warranty, paint protection, undercoating, etc.), they probably got plenty of profit from the selling price itself!
In your case, total dealer profit of roughly $2159 ($1,225 over invoice, $289 processing fee, $430 holdback, and $215 wholesale fiance).
Recently purchased a 2000 Sienna LE at 355 Toyota, Rockville, Maryland. Here is a breakdown of the price:
21503 base invoice 430 dealer holdback (2% of base) 215 wholesale financial reserve (1% of base) 452 TDA (2.1% of base) 480 destination 36 EF 80 SK 128 TO 271 UN no charge DK - owner portfolio no charge full tank gas ----- 23595 dealer "invoice" 334 dealer profit ----- 23929 selling price 5 MD tire recycling fee 1197 5% state sales tax 152 2 year tags and title ----- 25283 total cash delivered price - no trade
Has anyone leased a Sienna through Toyota Financial Services or otherwise know their program details? In particular, I would like to know the following based on a 36 month lease:
- Residual factor (as percentage of MSRP) - Lease rate (annual percentage rate or money factor) - Any required cap cost reduction (i.e. down payment)
I understand that TFS subsidizes leases for repeat customers by waiving the security deposit and offering a discount off the bottom line. TFS calls this the "Encore Feature." Earlier, TFS was very up-front in telling me about this program as my current vehicle is about to come off lease and they were trying to throw me a hook. When I called them last week, they said they couldn't discuss the program details with me directly and referred me to the local dealer for more info. When I was looking at the RX 300, the Lexus dealer told me I could get $1000 off the price if I signed again with TFS.
I'm interested to know what other people have experienced. Thanks.
Can someone tell me what TDA and wholesale financial reserve charges are? I thought the wholesale financial reserve is another name for a dealer holdback? Why should we pay twice for the same thing? We are shopping for either a 2000 or 2001 Sienna. I have the new book for the 2001, but I think I will get a better deal on the 2000. I get defensive when dealing with car salesmen...I guess I just don't trust them.
Can anyone tell me if they know whether or not there are two different styles of alloy wheels for the 2000 Sienna? I particularly wanted the alloy wheels I saw on the XLE, but we ended up buying an LE. When writing letters to dealers, I had asked about the SS option and one dealer gave me a quote that I liked, but they were pretty far away from where I live. I took that quote to the dealer that I bought my van from and got the same price, however, the van they had for me didn't have the alloy wheels (had some other junk I didn't even want which upped the invoice price). The deal maker was that they would add the alloy wheels for me and give me the van at the price the other dealership offered. However, when I spoke with the service department (apparently my wheels had come in this morning) they are now telling me that the wheels will be different than what I saw on the XLE. They are saying that there are two types of alloy wheels, one for the LE and one for the XLE (costs more) and that they had allotted me enough in the purchase price for the LE wheels. Is this even true? Does this even sound right? Is it likely that there are 2 different wheels? I'd really hate looking stupid, when all I am is inexperienced in the fine art of car buying. Before I go back and do battle with the dealer, I'd just like to get my ducks in a row. Any advice would be appreciated. (Woman buyer with a blind husband....can you say target here?)
The brochure shows that the LE alloy wheels option has the same alloy wheels as the XLE model. It looks like there is only one type of alloy wheel available.

Is anybody else having this problem? Is it too late to expect a dealer to order a 2000 model?
Thanks for any insight you can give.
Thanks, ---Pete
Purchased last Wednesday in No. VA
LE with the following:
EK Rear Bumper protector
UN Extra Value Package
UP Upgrade Package #1
TO Towing Package
TDA + Shipping
All for $25200.
With tax, title, dealer prep ($289!), etc., out the door for $26300+change
Most surprising was absolutely no hassle about extended warranty, paint protection, undercoating, etc.
I worked with Bob Paulson, who did you work with?

Recommend you modify it based on the lessons learned we posted at http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/engaged/edmund.cgi?&f=0&c=Vans&t=1333&q=199
Here's the breakdown in price you requested:

Thanks.
Thanks in advance.
