Maybe you need to use higher octane.
The 1.8T in other countries is a different engine code - they are NOT the same exact engine. AWD,AWW,AWP,AEG, so many different ones - I can't name them all. The software also for other countries is different also. NA software is not the same as the software for the engines in Germany. So yeah, get your facts straight.
Refresh my memory. What is the chip again and where does it go. Not like a chip, but this morning, I usually drive in the Tip mode, I had to get into the traffic real quick and was in 1st gear when I punched it a little bit and the torque about took the steering wheel out of my hands. It just surprised me that the 1.8T could leap out so quickly. I've driven a turbo before, but not like this one, though. This is so much quicker. I could maybe imagine what you experienced today. So, let me know what this chip is all about again. Will it affect the warranty in any way?
Thanks very much!
a chip takes the HP north of 200 and the torque over 240 lb-ft. Some (APR for instance) offer the ability to switch among programs so one can get full power or go to normal power (for service calls for instance).
Will it affect the warranty in any way?
If the dealership finds it and they claim it broke whatever part...uh yeah, it'll negate portions of your warranty. In the old days with the 2/24k warranty, losing warranty coverage wasn't a big deal. The newer Jetta get the 4/50 which makes a warranty loss pretty severe.
Cards, your car has about 150hp at the wheels, just imagine having 201..
I have 32K miles now, and none of my regs have failed yet. I guess it's just a matter of time...
Local reports say we could have ANOTHER 10" on the ground by Friday, in addition to the 26" that fell with the Presidents' Day storm. I am ready to move to FL now...
No kidding, a few cars passed me on the road this morning, and I was going 50mph (limit is 55). They had to be going at least 70mph, with the snow coming down! Then they wonder why they have accidents...because they're idiots, that's why!
as usual, my car does just fine. not sure why others out there can't get their freaking Toyota Highlanders anywhere without crashing. all these commuters in their AWD cars, causing accidents. they deserve to get their licenses revoked.
BTW, my new regulators are just peachy. knock wood. no probs at all. but of course, my windows are tinted so it could run up and down different...
BTW, this is fresh on my mind because we've had rain in San Diego for two days and that makes our freeways a nightmare.
I don't know how people can't get through snow in their gas-hog SUVs with 4WD without having problems, but everyone else seems to make it just fine in cars. I think the problem is that the drivers of SUVs think they're super gods or something and can speed down the road, and their 4WD will help them. NOTHING helps on ice. I slid this morning when making a right turn, but my ASR scrubbed for traction then everything was fine.
I didn't see any accidents except the one with the Malibu, and that was a little too close for comfort for me.
LOL
I might actually have to purchase snow tires for my car, with all this inclement weather. What's the best brand anyway (in 15" size)?
Now add to the mix people who are afraid of rain and go 30 MPH under the limit when it's drizzling. Add in another mix of normal people who obey traffic laws. Toss in another portion who drive as if nothing had changed. Finally, mix in liberal amounts of fog and intellectually challenged drivers who outright refuse to turn on their lights in inclement conditions.
Unless it's pitch black, Californians refuse to turn on their headlights ("I can see fine!" is the refrain when you mention one should turn on lights in rainy/foggy conditions). They don't understand the lights are so OTHER cars can see them.
So with all these elements combined - overly-cautious drivers, normal people, daredevils, flooding, fog and no lights, the result is always accidents.
I left for work yesterday and it took my 1.5 hours. I left work at 7 pm last night. I got home at 8 (1 hour drive) and it's only 14 miles!
I spent 2.5 hours in my car yesterday to drive 28 miles. It was only raining! If it snowed here the city would shut down for a week.
Also, here in MD, it's (supposedly) the law that you have to turn on your headlights when your wipers are on. Alot of people don't do it though. Even though the Jetta has DRLs, I still turn on my lights, for my convenience, because it lights up the dashboard and makes it easier to see.
When my daughter was learning to drive, I took her to a deserted parkinglot after a snowstorm and had her slide around hit the emergency brake, go backwards, slam on the brakes...etc. She is now well inoculated to slippery conditions and is a very good driver in the slippery stuff.
BTW>... THOSE BONHEADED SUV DRIVERS DO NOT REALIZE THAT 4X4 DOES NOT HELP AT ALL (AND EVEN PROMOTES SLIDING OFF OF THE ROAD) OVER 40MPH. 4X4 DOES NOT HELP STOPPING AT ALL. ALL CARS HAVE 4-WHEEL BRAKES!!!
I was out on an Interstate highway today and up ahead was a car fire. The front was just engulfed in flames and "rubbernecks" were slowing down to take a look. I'm just about screaming, don't slow down, what if the whole thing explodes? When I got close to it, I just tore butt to get away as fast as I could go. Like you say, the road ahead is wide open. I guess that we what to get as close as possible so we can tell someone about it. Like, "I was just so close to a car fire today and it almost blew up in front of me. Boy, was I scared."
Sorry about the snow and rain to spoil you day or days. We've been lucky so far, I've only needed to use the snow blower just once this year. I think of it as an insurance policy. Ya pay a lot of money and you want to try it out, but the snow doesn't come. Fine with me. I can
Question to you the all knowing: Do you get better mileage my using the Tip mode versus the regular automatic mode? BTW, my Jetta's windows, all 4, move at about the same speed. From all the stories that I've read here, I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall though. I have over 1,100 miles and it's been flawless. My fingers are crossed.
It also mentions the 1.8T, for which it recommends premium unleaded fuel with a minimum of 91. It states the range for premium unleaded fuel to be 91 - 93 or so (not definite about that upper range, but the 91 is correct).
What engine/year do you have? Does your manual say otherwise?
There was a pretty good 4 car accident right in front of my apartment today, which made me pretty happy I didn't park on the street (sometimes I do). Somebody went to make a u-turn into a driveway, although its a in a Saab oneway two lane street, and hit the side of an SUV passing him on the left, causing the SUV to drive straight into the car parked in front of my front door, driving THAT car into the car in front if it. God only knows what the damage total is, the sound was rather spectacular from my bedroom.
I had a dusting on my rear window, which the defogger took off (which, I might add, is very strong). I have these wipers called SmartBlade (from VW) that show you with an indicator when they wear out, and they seem to clean the windshield pretty well through the snow/ice/slush. The ASR also helped me get started on my street this morning through the fine coat of ice/slush/snow that is there.
I turned the corner at the top of my street to find a Honda Civic EX couple spinning and spinning, trying to get itself free from its parking space. The funny thing was (for me anyway, since I was moving and she was stuck) was that the street she was on was totally clear except for the parking spaces. I would have hated to see her try to get that car off my street. Poor Honda, I guess they're not better in everything...
