Guys (and gals?), how do you get the right mirror to go auto-down? I programmed the auto lock feature, but can't see where to program this feature. I'm technically adept, so no long discussion is necessary, please just point me in the right direction and I'll figure it out.

    Thanks!

The easiest way to get your pictures up onto the Internet is to upload them to a free image site such as Photopoint.com. After you have done this, simply provide us with the URL to your album in here, so that we can have a look at your pictures :-)

For example, you can see my Photopoint gallery here:
    http://albums.photopoint.com/j/MyAlbums?u=137587

You may also want to have a look at these instructions:

I also had that question when I got my 2000 S430. The answer is on pg. 83 of the owners manual, but really, it is very simple. On the drivers door there are 2 little buttons each of which must be pressed to operate each side mirror. The right hand button (for the right mirror) must be left "pressed in", the right hand mirror will then tilt downward automatically when putting the car in reverse. If the left button is left pressed in, then the autotilt feature will be deactivated. Hope this info helps.

Has anybody seen Wedgewood Blue colour personally? What is there impression of Wedgewood colour? Would you prefer Wedgewood Blue over Brilliant Silver?

How would you relate this colour to other very obvious items in this colour?

I really appreciate for sharing your thoughts...

    Thanks.

Done. I appreciate the directions. Nice feature! With wheels/tires as pricey as they are, not to mention the unsightliness of curb rash, this could be a handy device. Unfortunately now I will probably knock my side mirror off trying to back out of the garage, as I can't see directly behind me!

I saw a wedgewood S430 at my local dealership in December. It was indoors, and it looks almost baby blue (it had beige interior). I don't know how it would look in the sunlight. This particular car had the sport package, which I thought looked silly. I'm a biased fan of the S class in silver.
  • mlbarnesmlbarnes Member Posts: 48
The Wedgewood Blue is very dull looking. I saw in with the ash interior. I would like to see it with the Java interior. Very basic and very plain looking.

My S 430 will be delivered tomorrow. I'm still waiting for important questions to ask. All question to are important. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  • georget3georget3 Member Posts: 53
Actually, the typical MB sales rep. is supposed to follow a detailed check list when delivering a car to you. Just ask to see the check list, and make sure the sales rep. does indeed go through each step. I suggest that you allot at least 3 hours for the delivery.

    Thanks for the information!!!!!!!

any pics yet? I saw Drew posted the directions, or go to the owner's clubs section of townhall and go to one of the MB threads, there's pics of my special order Magma red new C in the C club section, and the photos section of each club tells how to upload pics in the first post. If you have any more questions ask Drew, he's the the one who helped me and is the real expert. I really would love to see your S, I bet it's a real looker!!
  • mlbarnesmlbarnes Member Posts: 48
Thanks for that information. I will post a picture ASAP, but your car is absolutely awesome. It took my breath away. I can not wait it see my car today. Today is going to be a good day.
  • dennettdennett Member Posts: 332
I'm sure it's no comparison to your car, but we've all got to start somewhere. I'll be looking for your pics, you can post right here in one of your posts, that's how I first did mine. If you want to, you could start an S class owner's club to go with the C, E and M class clubs here at Edmunds. Just e-mail the host or make a post here to Drew, I'm sure he could get the ball rolling, I know his parents have a new S class also.

This may be a silly question...but does anyone have a suggestion on the best leather cleaner to use. I have a new S430 and the leather is ...well not that soft and traditional leather cleaners that I have used just don't work. I know about the MB cleaning kit...but that seems very expensive! Is there anything out there that does a good job at a reasonable price? By the way... I have kids and that does not help the interior one bit :)

GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS! After 18 months of shopping, I finally received my S430. This car is very sophisticated. So sophisticated that I will be at least 1 year learning everything. I don't know where to start. I'm a GADGET person and this is a stretch for me. I have the car and still can not sleep. I just want to drive, drive, and drive. ANY tips on what to learn first will be greatly appreciated.

You have to the pictures that you uploaded to Photopoint out of your Inbox and into another folder. The Inbox is restricted only to the owner of the gallery. Have a look at my Photopoint gallery for example:

I was on a plane to Tokyo, and had this picture I found on a website, I did some "editing" and just wanted to see how to upload.

mlbarnes, can't wait to see the pics of your new S!

Here is another try. I'm sorry if it does not work! The address is http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1593287&a=12134260

Please tell me how did you download that picture or what site gives directions. I'm very, very new at this.

    Thanks
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Do you own the copyright to that picture? If so, that is fine.

But if you do not, you can't post it here and I ask that you delete that post. You can post a link to it on the host site (as long as that doesn't violate any TOU there), however.

If it is your picture, never mind - your post implies otherwise, so that is why I'm asking.

I do want to remind everyone that the Town Hall Terms of Use prohibits the posting of any copyrighted pictures or information unless the poster actually owns the copyright.

    Thanks,

I am pretty sure it is not copyrighted. It was on a site that said you could download it. Plus I edited more than 15% of it. If anyone does feel that there is an error from that site and it is copyrighted, could Edmunds please take it down. Thanks and sorry for any confusion, just wanted to check how to put pics into the board :-)

Would anyone like to swap COMAND cd's? I have Region 8: Mid-Atlantic. I am especially interested in Region 7: New England. If you are interested, please e-mail me at Wanderer27585731@aol.com (I guess I wasn't the first to think of that handle!).

livetodrive, you can get the new Comand cd's from your MB dealer.

re: Cleaning M-B Interior. You might want to try M-B's cleaning kit. I've used some of their cleaning products, most of which are supplied to them now by Maguire's (sp?). I find their wax and paint cleaner to be excellent -- I find them easier to use and longer lasting than even Zymol. Youy probably can't go wrong trying their cleaning products on your leather as, if used as directed, they should not cause problems. Using other products might give you a problem re: warranty if they cause damage to the surface. I've owned a variety of cars with leather interiros and found that by sticking to the manufacturers leather cleaning kit I didn't have any headaches and usually got excellent results.

I'm not happy with the M-B car wash soap or their wheel cleaner, but the wax, paint cleaner, and interior products have given excellent results. I use Zymol Clear as my car wash soap and generally find a 50-50 solution of Simple Green and water to do the trick on brake dust. I use Westley's Bleche-White on tires.

PS: I have a 1998 S500 which I bought new. I find the new S-Class machines unattractive and too Japanese-like for my tastes. I was also disappointed to see how they de-contented the new S from the former generation.

Picked this article up off of the mbspy.com site. I'm an owner of a 2001 S500,, and really like the car. But i have to admit that some of the issues this article raises are right on.

    http://mbspy.bacosys.be/mbquality.htm

I welcome anyone elses opinion as to the quality issues (material and fit) of the 2000/2001 S Class

  • mrman_3k1mrman_3k1 Member Posts: 52
I own a new 2001 few week old S600 Silver Designo. First off, I am only 32, and find the new S-Class much more appealing than the old S. 2 or 3 years ago, I would not even have considered the S because it looked boxy. The quality in my opinion is excellent, however I do see some of the points they bring up in the article. The majority of the things they did mention, at least in my car, is not that bad like the door and the other things I do not really use so it is okay. I know different people have different opinions and this is my opinion.
  • merc1merc1 Member Posts: 6,081
First the bad news. Yes, the quality has gone done. Compared to the old W140 S-Class the new car is a fly weight. However the Mercedes feel and experience (thankfully) is still there, just not as much of it as before. That's the way I look at it. It's only alarming if you get a chance to examine a 1999 S side by side with a 2000 or 2001 S, then you might get worried. I hope Mercedes is listening to the general feeling being expressed about their latest cars like the new S and C. Audi is going to have this interior thing all sewn up if Mercedes doesn't reverse this trend.

I think you are fortunate with the S600. From what I have seen, the S600 because it has the extra leather throughout the interior, and it is also the exclusiv leather, better aroma and feel, I don't think it is as noticeable that the car feels decontented.

I agree with the article, but you have to remember that MBZ cut the cost of this car by more than $10K. If you demand the extras, you can get them in the Designo edition or S600. I personally had rather save the $10K instead of having some of the thrills that you never use. I think fit and finish are superb on my '01 S500. Couldn't be happier...

Has anyone fitted 19 inch wheels on their S Class? Can anyone compare ride and noise to an 18 inch wheel? Does the airmatic suspension offset some of the otherwise expected harshness in ride comfort. This is for a Brabus V wheel.

    Thoughts please.

I have read the post on March 18, but still do not understand. I do not understand the what, where, and the how and especially, using this coding, but replace the (and) with < and >. Please explain, and by the way I'm pretty smart. This is all new to me!! Thanks

P.S. Should I have a folder and an album or both or what?
  • mrman_3k1mrman_3k1 Member Posts: 52
You know I was thinking, what do they mean by Exclusive Nappa leather. The salesman kept talking about it but I didn't really think much of it. Now I am curious, does it meant that is the extra leather on the dash and seats, or is it a special type?

You can easily put 19-20" Wheels on the S500. Of course, the ride is crappy!

By the way, those pictures on the S500 posted above, damn those wheels are so ugly! What a shame!
  • mlbarnesmlbarnes Member Posts: 48
I think that I have the hang of it. How do you like me now?
  • benznutbenznut Member Posts: 104
I think just the same. The standard wheels are too uglu and do not help very much with the appearance. They seem too overwhelmed by the benz's crb weight. Having planned to purchase a New generation S class in the near future, I am researching about how i can find an alternative to those ugly tires. I know it would be much better if I could find a set of tires that they use for the CL. They are 17", and would dramatically improve appearance without sacrificing ride comfort. My heart would tell me to get the crome AMG 220s, but there are two comcerns. The climate here, which has a lot of snow, and the broken pavement on the roads. Those rims would not las t a minute. Plus, I do not like to have wheels on my benz that do not have the MB star on the center

  • taisontaison Member Posts: 71
In my opinion, that's why I think the sport package is worth it. The rims that come with the sport package fit the car much better than the small 16" rims.

How do you disengage or stop the navigational system once it is has started or when you no longer need it?
  • blehrlichblehrlich Member Posts: 92
Just hit the Nav. button (next to the radio, telephone,cd buttons). The display will then say "navigation off".
