FYI: The shop foreman gave some detail about the "pad treatment" that was applied the first time I went in. He said that the pads are removed and soaked in a MB-approved solvent with the intent of clearing dust build-up or stray metallic particles that might not ride against the rotor smoothly. Prior to reassembly, the shims and brake hardware get a fresh film of MB's version of the usual graphite-looking grease. After having the service advisor suggest I was "forcing" the squeal (puleeeze!), it was refreshing to have an intelligent discussion with the shop foreman that answered my concerns - i.e. what kind of snake oil is a "brake pad treatment"?!?
For now my wife continues to put on mostly quiet mileage. We have a road trip to S.Fla next weekend and definitely looking forward to getting the new car out on the highway. As far as I know, nothing further has been done after the initial "treatment" other than test drives. One might think it was a new car thing, but this one was a demonstrator with 2100 mi on it. Who knows?
I guess, this is the contact information you were looking for. Why don't you organize the tour yourself? MB and Porsche are both near Stuttgart, the BMW museum is (obviously) in Munich, and Audi has just now opened their brand new historical expo in Ingolstadt, which is 45 minutes north of MUC and two (rather fast) hours east of STR.
Here is info concerning visiting Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, AUDI and BMW in Germany.
Now, this site seems to offer EXACTLY what you're craving for... ...and I don't blame you a bit :->
Here is info from a guy who went racing in Germany, this is the Nürburgring home page (crank up those speakers!), and their pricing. For some reason, the pricing and schedule pages are not available in English, so just drop me a line and I will translate for you (I am trying to make up for the "Babelfish" joke the other night...).

I think you can do better. Either a better price, or, have the dealer throw in some more items. Such as, accessories you may want. Good luck.

Anyway, as these cars get older (out of warranty) many will want such a resource. While I'll probably not have the C-320 out-of-warranty, some of you that have purchased the cars personally may, so I recommend posting impressions, solutions, tips etc., on the board I mentioned before: http://pub50.ezboard.com/bmercedes2001onclassowners. The period is not part of the address by the way.
Is this a good car? Seems like a great price.
Ken,
I expect to hit the 8 year mark before 100k miles. Thanks.
For the 2000 MY C-Class, the cost is:
- $1675 CDN ($1140 US) for adding 3 years' warranty to the standard 4, (+160,000 km).
So the price you're being quoted is a little steep by Canadian standards, although you do get one more year and 600 miles out of the deal.
I don't envy your decision because of the cost, but in my case, I think I'll get the extended warranty on my C-Class when I buy one in a year or so. I want to make sure the car is still under warranty as long as I owe money to the bank for it ;->
The 'premium coverage' is not a bumper to bumper warranty. There is a list of covered items. Coin toss, I guess, as $2550 would hopefully cover a couple of repairs. These should be durable cars.
So, you can save the money you were going to spend on the warranty and invest in something for the next 3+ years :-) I know I will!

So considering that, it seems to be quite good value compared to the US one.
You are right - I think these cars should be very robust over the long haul. That's why I want to buy one and keep it at least 15 years (my present car is 13 years old). Perhaps the electrical system could be a problem area, as it is rather complex. For me, I want the security of not having an unexpected bill (however unlikely) while I'm in the throes of finally paying my car off in the 5th (or 6th??) year.
As Drew notes, I'd probably buy the extended coverage in the 4th year of ownership - why buy it right away (unless the price goes up while you're waiting...a gamble, I guess).

don't they still taper the warranty to fit your anticipated mileage? I use my '99 c280 sport for work and put a lot of miles on it. Therefore I got a 5 year/100K for only $864. True it only extends the man. warranty by a year but it gives me a lot (50K) of extra miles. I think the 6 year/100k was 1160 or something. I found on my 525 I hit expensive repairs around the 80k mark (covered!) and then the 120K mark (not covered:(- ).
C2, C3, C4, K2a, Command system, driver multi-contour seat drivers seat, xenon lamps and full leather.
In no particular order:
1. Xenon lamps - great. Impressive nite vision. nothing like it. Definitely worth the money.
2. C4: Heated seats etc - living in CA, my wife didn't think this was a smart buy...until she had them on in the evening when the outside temp was in the 40's...now she is a convert. She smiled and said they were great.
3. C2; glad I ordered it. very nice.
3. C3; the car came with it but definitely not needed in my book.
4. Command: very cool, but confusing. Large display. Definitely a keeper but don't have it totally figured out yet. Thank God I have a 16 year old son to figure out how it works.
5. Multi-contour seat: Fabulous! my only regret is that there is not one on the passenger side. great personalize support.
6. K2a: CD changer is in the glove box! Easy to reach. Jury is still out on the phone...have not figured out the voice control features but the phonebook entry appear in the menu on the dashboard. Easy to place and receive calls via controls on the Steering wheel. Not sure its worth $2000 but I like gadgets!
7. Navagation is very cool...and accurate.
Driving impressions: no beak squeal yet! Responsiveness is wonderful. There is no lag when the gas is pressed...it looks like Benz fixed this problem. Stops on a dime but definitely BMW and Audi have better 'manual shift thru the gears' technology. Don't be fooled by the extra seatbelt in the rear...this is a 4 passenger car. We had 2 teenagers and an adult in the rear and it was TIGHT.
Issues:
1. Trunk takes a couple of times to close...needs to be tweeked by dealer.
2. The radio/CD volume faids out for no apparent reason... this is supposed to be so when you are talking, the radio quiets itself, but don't know how to deactivate this feature. Does anyone have any hints on this?
After a few thousand miles, I'll update this thread.
Also, any thoughts if this being the "old" body style would affect resale value? I'm lifting this qoute from edmunds:
"But you've really gotta want a Benz to buy the aging C-Class. It's not a bargain, and there are less expensive ways to obtain a small luxury-brand sedan. A BMW 323i is a better deal, for example,"
Thanks.
It is CD based which means you have to have the CD player filled with the Navi data base disk, and it's another $800 more fo the changer, to get cd music and navi at the same time. Update disks for other areas to the Merc are $200 bucks plus and you need several to cover the US! For me this option is not ready for prime time.
Accura uses a DVD disk which has the whole USA on it, along with a much sharper detailed display.
To accomodate the screen, The dual heating controls revert to the cheaper 240 type of control without the digital read out.
Garmin offers a portable road pilot GPS, with color for $600 which can go from car to car.
Had noted that my drivers seat also slowly moves over bumps, front to rear as was noted by another contributor. A bit of an uncommanded pivot. This will be the second try to fix this.
The 320 is really a good runner though I thinking of upgrading the wheels/ tires for a liitle more stick.
The option I would love to have gotten would be the multi-contour seat. I miss the lumbar support that every Audi has as standard.
Keep the info coming, thanks!
thank you for the education.. and further appreciation of what i am already enjoying!
is robtroxel right when he indicated that there is no climate control digital display on the 320 with command (reverts to 240 controls)??
in the picture it appears that the digital display is the same as 320s w/o command...
http://www.edmunds.com/vehicles/2001/mercedesbenz/cclass/gallery/42556.html
we have a 320 with command on order and are still debating getting it? any other comments/impressions?
thanks!

The command system works the CD, NAV, Phone, Radio but the climate control is NOT displayed in the command system LCD screen. Below the screen are two digial readout controls.
I hope this answers your question.
P.S. Finally figured out voice control...very very cool. Great with the phone but works the CD, Radio and Nav as well.
Perhaps, the post #753 about the "pad treatment" is this same BG product. If so, it is working so far as thomas_1 said on Jan. 26.
My Capri Blue 240/ash leather with C1,2,4, auto and multi-contour seats is to be made in decade 3 of February. I am looking for the answer so my pads can be treated at delivery.
If any of you try these treatments, please let us know. I trust this mechanic. Cheers.
My Dealer quoted 70 % Residual on 36 month lease;
68 % residual on 42 month lease and 15 K mi/year.
9.072 % divide by 2400 = 0.00378 money factor.
Hoping Fed cuts by another 0.50 pts. tomorrow.
But yes, that sounds like a good price. Is this your first MB? Maintanence will be higher than for many other cars. We had some discussions on the earlier Es over the last week or so in the E-class forum
First, I was told that all MB dealerships will officially switch to Mobil 1 Synthetic oil for all cars on Feb. 14. They said they have until then to use up all the petrol based stuff. They, San Diego MB have already gotten a big shipment of Mobil 1 55 gallon drums. My saleman told me not bring in our car until all the old stuff was gone.
Also I was told that the new C class cars coming in have been coming with a much "cheaper" LATCH babyseat brackets that don't fold away out of site. The new ones are permenently sticking out and are in the way of adults sitting in the back seat. They're very upset about it because they can't remove them because there are liabilty issues if they're removed and then later reinstalled incorrectly. We're still loving our C!! I'm trying now to figure a way to get a new CLK. That's why we went to the dealer yesterday.
A service manager confirmed this for us on the M-Class list.
You have a bit more details, but FSS does get Mobil1 now!
I found a couple of 2001 C240 around 35k. one is loaded (but odd color), the other red with 6 speed.
I was about to buy a 98 528i when i bumped into these. I was trying to keep cost under 30.
what ya think?
He said it drove them crazy trying to figure this out. He and I agreed that a something more obvious should have been done.
http://www.canadiandriver.com/testdrives/01c-class.htm
"...the manual transmission breathes more performance and excitement into the base 2.6 litre V6 engine which redlines at 6000 rpm. The manual transmission will appeal to sporty-minded drivers - oh, and it knocks $1,500 dollars off the price of the automatic-equipped C240.
The 5-speed automatic transmission with Touch Shift, is as smooth as warm molasses, but the kickdown times in automatic mode were a bit slow when passing. Perhaps its adaptive shift control would adapt to my driving style over time, but I only had one day with the car..."
Approx. 3.5 months delivery time here in N.J. to get a specific car with the options you want.
Was told it is at the Port in Hamburg last week, waiting for ship. It is a 7 day (to 10 days) crossing to Baltimore. Then approx. 10 calendar days in Auto Port / Customs / Pre-Delivery Inspection etc...
C1, C2, C3, C4 + Bose upgrade. $35580 MSRP, Desert Silver metallic paint, -ve on the Leather upgrade. Have not sat down for final lease numbers and CD player price yet.
Will Greenspan cut Rate by 0.50 tomorrow ? That is the question...
