BMW X3 & X5 Extended Warranty

I purchased the extended warranty for my 04 X3, 4 year 50,000 miles to 6 year 100,000 miles. But now the dealer said it expired, they said it expired back in January, the purchase date the dealer got the car. I thought the warranty starts the day I purchased the car, which I bought in August. How does the warranty work?

Is this a BMW backed warranty? Was it a CPO car?

I don't know why you'd be expected to pay for six months of warranty coverage when you didn't own the car. What does the contract say?

Sounds like it's time to call your local consumer protection agency, the BBB and if it's a BMW back warranty, open up a case with BMW.

The BMW dealer can pull a vehicle history report, and it will give the in-service date..

Unfortunately, some dealers will put units into the demo or service loaner program (oftentimes to collect an incentive), then sell the car to a buyer, without ever disclosing that the warranty clock has already started ticking.

I'm really surprised this didn't come to light, when you purchased the extended warranty... If you bought the extended warranty at a later time than the original purchase (I'm guessing you did), and from the same dealer... I'd raise a big stink about getting screwed out of six months of warranty.. (unless of course, you knew you were buying a demo or service loaner).

tomorrow I will pick up 2011 x5 35d, I just wonder if I need to buy extended warranty? I think I will keep the vehicle quite longer, so want to get some suggestions from your guys.

Four years and 50K miles on the standard warranty... I think I would wait. The only thing you are risking is future price increases in the warranty.
