Hey Johnny, which dealership in Louisiana did you use? I've got a 2000 Odyssey down here in Baton Rouge we're about ready to trade in for an 05 Touring. I've been talking to Team Honda a bit about it.

Took delivery of the Honda Odyssey...! Had to travel 670 miles(9 hour drive) back home but it is all worth it...! I already posted the deal but I will publish again. The following are the purchase details :-

    Vehicle Price - $29,110
    Doc. Fee - $ 149
Title, temporary permit, licence & registration - $185
No sales tax in my state (Oregon) but bought the vehicle from Pocatello, Idaho. The dealership (Honda of Pocatello) was low pressure and easy to work with. No additional costs were added when I arrived at the dealership. The salesperson picked me up at the airport and had a full tank of gas on delivery. The internet sales person took the time to explain me everything about the vehicle including radio, inspecting under the hood, the new features and virtually about the entire vehicle . He briefly went over the material you get when you buy a vehicle...! Outstanding service. I took delivery of the vehicle on Nov. 12th and he called me today (11/16) to verify about the drive back was and wanted to verify if I had any questions or problems regarding the vehicle. I had no questions or problems and absolutely satisfied with the vehicle. I would definitely recommend the dealership to other prospective buyers on the forum. The dealership is Honda Of Pocatello, Idaho.

    Michael,

Which dealer near Charlotte gave you a quote for $1500 under MSRP?

Dealers have been giving me decent quotes, but then souring the deal with high doc fees and not budging on them... I didn't pay a doc fee on my first three Hondas and I'm not about to start now!

Ever heard of something called the exchange rate?

So, how was the seat comfort after nine hours? And how tall are you?

  • kvmkvm Member Posts: 19
I am not that tall...! I am 5'7''...! The seat was super comfortable. I kept the seat all the way to the lowest position. For a tall person you probably need to set it higher...! I liked the strong lumbar support that you adjust to the contours of the lower back...! For the 1st time I was neither suffering motion sickness nor cramps after I drove that long. Of course, I kept the vehicle on cruise for a good 5 hours off the 9 hours I drove and I was stretching frequently.

Can somebody please offer prices paid and the terms for the extended warranty (honda care) from the dealers on the '05 ody. or please direct me to the previous posts elsewhere. Thank you.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,569
thanks for the update. Hopefully I fall into the all day comfort catagory. I can usually tell from test sitting if it will work for me, based onhow I can get it adjusted, where the lumbar hits, etc.

Hope I don't find any who stoppers, since I have a deal in place for $28,500 for the EX-L, assuming I can wait until next year for it (not that I will need a car sooner, I just hate waiting).

    Try curryhondacare.com

They have very competitive prices and will e-mail you a discount code for $90 off the listed prices on their website.

I'm planning to buy a 7yr/75K with $0 deductible for $930 after discount, unless my local dealer wants to beat the price.

My father-in-law has purchased two warranties from them for his Pilot and Acura TL.

KVM - thanks for all your posts! I basically used your posts to work out an identical deal at Pocatello Honda. I'm now thinking whether to have it delivered or drive it back myself when it arrives mid Dec. Decisions...Decisions. Leaning heavily toward the transport option due to the snow going over the passes in mid-Dec. How did the van handle going through the passes?

Which dealerships are you referring to? I'm looking for an Odyssey EX L/DVD. I do live in the Chicago area.
Anyone else have any experience with local dealerships?
  • dacsdacs Member Posts: 3
First off, thanks to all who have shared their info. Really helpful. The folks at Clair Honda in West Roxbury offered us an EXL at $30k, which was the lowest we've found, so far. However, their offer for our trade-in was less than half of the bottom range from our used-car trade-in value research. Bernardi Honda in Natick offered us a higher trade-in value, but won't budge from a selling price of $30,810 plus $280 for doc fees. We're not in a rush so it'll be interesting to see if either one will reconsider. Will post again when the "experience" is over.

erichl - I am glad to hear that you got a better deal than the one you got in Seattle. I did look at your previous post and mentioned it to the internet sales guy when he followed up with me(he was glad that he was getting seious buyers). It handled the mountain passes very easily, smooth drive and excellent handling. However, I had to take it off cruise while going over the mountain passes to handle the curves and also there was no snow when I drove it back to Oregon. I was determined to save as much money as I can, just to see how much I could save if I could take the extra effort and also I had a lot of vacation at work that I needed to burn off. I did not fly into Pocatello directly. I flew into Boise, ID one way trip (cost me $65). Then I took a rental car for a one way trip from Boise into Pocatello (cost me $75) + fuel costs($15) and had to fill up the gas one more time on my way back (cost me $34). The drive from Boise to Pocatello is about 3 hours (230 miles) but the drive was absolutely gorgeous and I think it was worth it. In total I drove for about 12 hours (3 hours getting into Pocatello & 9 hours driving back). My day started at 4 am on 11/12 and I reached home by 12:30 am 11/13(just after midnight). I had a lot more fun spending 20 hours outside of my office cubicle than working 10 hours in my office cubicle. This year there was not a lot of snow and I am not sure whether this would change in mid Dec. It's a personal choice whether you want to save an additional $300-$400. Some of my friends mentioned that if they were in my position they would not take the additional effort and rather pay additional $'s as they are already saving some money anyway .Also, make a note that you can go and look at the condition of the vehicle & test drive it. Not to mention, you can meet the people at the dealership face to face. I drove mostly on I84 and its a truck route. I am assuming by mid Dec there might be some snow but it will be cleared pretty quickly. If you want to drive back, you might want to carry some snow chains (just to be sure) or probably buy it at the dealership or ask them to give to you for free.

You came through Boise and didn't buy me coffee and Krispy Kremes? Tsk tsk.

We do that drive now and then - my wife recently drove to Pokey for a meeting and said it reminded her of the Alaskan tundra with all the open country and the fall colors in the sage and rabbit bushes.

I84 does have occasional winter problems over there with blowing snow, drifts and lousy visibility, but the weather reports are pretty accurate.

    Congrats on the new Ody!

Could someone give me pointers on how to bargain for a car over the internet?? Do you start with your low price or first ask the dealers what their best price is?? Any pointers would be helpful. I'm interested in a Touring w/ NAV&RES. Thanks!

Hi, I am living in Northern California and I want to buy a EX-L from other states. (the price here is too high) but California DMV requires that all new car from outstate has to meet california emission standard. I don't know if the odyssey are different which is sold in california or other states?
  • kvmkvm Member Posts: 19
I would recommend to wait for the 1st working day of the last week of a month. In this year Nov. 29th & Dec 27th. Locate all the dealers in a 700 mile radius through www.honda.com and start sending the internet sales managers asking them quotes for the vehicle of your choice. I recommend get a pool of atleast 25-35 dealers. Mention that you have a good feel of the sale prices in your area and you are willing to travel a little bit more if a good deal is offered. Wait and see how many responses you get. If you find a satisfactory price(which generally would be the lowest price) you can call the internet sales person and try to see if you can get an additional $'s off. Generally there are some dealers who would say that they would beat any offer by $100. Take the lowest you get and show it to them and see if they can still beat by $100. You might want to go through a couple of iterations to get the desired price you want and finally purchase the vehicle & enjoy it.
  • kvmkvm Member Posts: 19
Try Honda of Pocatello, ID or Ken Garff of Ogden,UT. They have published pretty good prices. I bought a Honda Odyssey EXL which meet the california emission standard. It was mentioned in the paper work that the dealer provided to me during the sale of the vehicle. Make sure you go through their internet department. I got the vehicle from dealer in Idaho. I got it for 1700 below MSRP without any haggling/issues.
  • kvmkvm Member Posts: 19
Steve, I did'nt know you were in Boise. If I did, I would have certainly met you and of course bought you a coffee and Krispy Kremes...:-)
  • mikamika Member Posts: 7
The sale started Sept. 23, and I have not seen a new Odyssey on the road or a parking lot yet????
I live in Lake Orion, Michigan (35 miles north of Detroit). Does that mean Honda does not sell '05 Odysseys in my area? By the way, how different does exterior look of '04 vs. '05 Sienna? Because I have not seen a lot of new Siennas either in my area. Thank you!

I'm shopping around via internet for the best
quote on an EX. I live in MA too. Honda Cars of Boston has given me the best quote to date. I've been at it a little over a week. Give them a try. Good Luck.

I have been shopping around looking for and EX-L with Navi/Res. That model has been a hard find for me here in the South. Finally found a Desert Rock with an offer of $1600 off MSRP. Total out the door comes to 34360 which includes tax and a $173 doc. fee. Any opinions on the deal? Also I haven't actually been able to see the Desert Rock in person. How does it look? I've been wanting a Silver Pearl with Gray int., but again this is the first Navi/Res I've found.
  • michaelamichaela Member Posts: 12
Check McKenney-Salinas at Gastonia. They quoted $27,110 with $249 doc fee.

Honda Cars of Concord ($1250 under MSRP with $399 doc fee)

Metro Honda in Monroe ($26989 with $399 doc)

Duncan Honda in Christianburg, VA ($500 over invoice plus $199 doc fee) -- don't know how legit this is. But check it out.

    Good luck.

Sorry about the previous post with salesman names, Steve. :(

I am in Oregon too. So, even if you buy from ID, you did not have to pay sales tax - is that right.

Now, if I go to Arizona and buy it from there - should I have to pay tax.

    Thanks.

    Rubie,
if you can wait for the van... don't buy from that dealer in LI only offering 1K off MSRP. By the way which dealer is this Please provide name. You could save additional 1-1.5K if you shopped around and negotiated using the info on this forum especially if you go out of town ... NJ, MA. Plaza auto mall had a special a week ago (I am not certain about legitimacy of this) where they were asking $1250 + Invoice for vehicles in stock only. Just make sure you have this info about the price you could be getting and do not stop until you get it. Best wishes... and Good Luck!

I live in Fairfax County, VA. Checked out price from dealers in Northern VA and around 495 (beltway). Most of the dealers quoted 1000 off MSRP + 299 fees etc etc....

Called Hagerstown Honda, got quote, bargained over the phone, finalized the deal. They even got me the Ocean Mist color I was looking for.
I paid $30,200 out of the door price for a '05 EXL. Includes wheel locks, pin stripes , mud flaps ....

I know you can't say who the salesman was, but I just called Hagerstown and got the usual 'nobody is discounting them', 'come in and we can talk'. All the usual saleman stuff. Seems like your salesman was a little more willing to deal.

I live in Va. but my family is in Fayetteville, NC. I have been shopping all over. I was able to work the following deal at Bryan Honda with the internet sales person. I am pleased as it was the lowest anyone was going in Richmond. I got the color and interior that I wanted.
05 EX with Leather and DVD Silver Pearl with Grey Leather
    $30,795.00
    $923.85 NC State Tax (3%)
    $57.00 New Tags (NCDMV)
    $299.00 Customer Service Fee
    $32,074.85 Total Price

It should arrive the 2nd week in Dec. Good Luck.

    Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you guys know I was able to find a good deal on a cloth EX Odyssey. I emailed Hendrick Honda in Charlotte, NC and a salesman called me with an offer (I believe $27,200). I fired back with $26,500 + Tax and tag. He came back with a $300 BS dock fee that he couldn't budge on, but he did throw in mud guards and an oil change in that price.

    Here's the final breakdown:
    $26,500 (van price)
    $795.00 (3% tax)
    $46.00 (tag transfer)
    $299.00 (BS doc fee...)
    ---------
    $27,640

Overall I was very happy with this dealer. We had the deal in just 2 phone calls. No pushing or haggling needed. We didn't even put down a deposit. We drove down 2.5 hrs to the dealer and when we got there the van was already inspected and cleaned with only 5 miles on the odometer. After a quick test drive we cut them a check and were on our way in less than an hour.

We got a Sage Brush Pearl Odyssey with ivory interior. It's a great van!

Also you have to be aggressive, tell them that you have a quote for $XXXXX from "abc" dealer and if you can beat the price.

My husband and I are going to buy a EX-L or EX cloth in Ma. The dealer gave us only $900.00 off msrp. Is any one have any good deal around in MA or NH? Please let me know, so I can make a deal with car dealers.
  • ispyispy Member Posts: 11
How much did you get quote from dealers? It is EX cloth or EX-L with any other option? Which dealer did you contact with?

    >>>3% tax came to $879.

I'm not questioning your story, but the tax in MD is 5% not 3%. Sure you didn't buy this in NC?
  • pkapka Member Posts: 56
it is 3% because he registered the van in VA. Regardless of state of purchase, you pay tax where you legally register your car.
  • lookn4oddylookn4oddy Member Posts: 2
I emailed Classic Honda and the Internet Manager wouldn't stop barageing me with emails. I got two or three a day for about a week.
I guess that's their job but it was pretty annoying, I get enough junk emails.

I got a better price from Jay Honda's Internet Manager, he answered my questions and left me alone to make my decision.

For now, I'm waiting a while....... I just bought a house.

I'm looking to buy a 2005 Odyssey with Leather and DVD for at/close to invoice. Is this realistic? This is the first time we're using cash for a purchase and I'd like to walk in and put my foot down and not budge but are we being realistic? Has anyone else been able to do this?

    Thanks,

For an EX-L, Bernardi Honda (in Natick) quoted $30,410; Clair Honda (in West Roxbury) quoted $30,000; Honda Cars of Boston (in Everett) quoted $29,995; Herb Chambers Honda (in Allston) quoted $30,000. All included destination fee. Documentation fees were $284, $144, $145, and $180, respectively. As of 11/17, none had EX-Ls in stock.

      Invoice is 30,900 Thanks NY
  • cpstarcpstar Member Posts: 31
Two important questions need to be answered before one can say whether your expectations are realistic or not.
    1. How soon do you need/want the van?
    2. How far are you willing to travel to strike a deal?

It is virtually impossible to get the trim line you want (EX-L RES+NAV) at invoice with the current market conditions. If you are willing to travel some distance (or get the car shipped) you might get a price close to invoice (inv+500to1500). The midwest appears to have the best pricing.

If you need the van in a month or two it would be harder to land a deal close to invoice.

If you have not done so, go back to the postings from the past few weeks. Several dealer names have been floated here and you might want to start calling them and see what kind of response you get.
