Thanks for the tips about Nalley Honda. I am in Atlanta and looking at the 2005 Ody. I will definitely check them out.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any price info or research on EX-L with RES?

How much did you pay at Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos..MSRP or below I hope.
• sepasepa Member Posts: 41
Quita1221: In NW suburb of Phila, the two local dealers would not budge off MSRP and certainly act as if all the local dealers have sworn and pledged to one another to hold that line ("MSRP - and you won't find any dealers around here that will give you any better".

Jones Honda in Lancaster was (is?)doing $1000 off MSRP. Bedard Bros. in Cheshire, MA was (is?) doing $950 over invoice.

I ordered from Bianchi in Erie, PA, and got a deal roughly equivalent to Bedard (travel to Erie was easier for me than to Chesire, MA).

Does any one know of a dealer in the Southwestern United States that will sell well below MSRP. The dealers listed in earlier Messages, near the East Coast, that are doing this, are to far from me.

Bedard in Massachusetts is still doing the 950 over invoice plus 50 doc fees.

I just called Bedard and received the same quote, only one thing puzzling. Since I live in NJ, they indicated they would charge 5% Mass sales tax but that NJ would recognize and only charge me the additional 1%. I'm required to get registration and plates prior to pick-up. Does this seem right?

I have bought my EXL at Mckenny Honda at $29500. The dealer is very nice. I just showed them all information I got from this forum. At first they are stick on -500 from MSRP. I told them my bottom line is $29500. Finally they agreed. And all options on the van which include Sealant, Cross Bars, Wheel Locks, Splash Guards, Cargo Tray, and Stripes are free. They have 3.99% for finance.

Are you considering Idaho...! Check "Honda Of Pocatello" through the internet dept. I am buying from them and they were about $1700 below MSRP.

Thanks for the reply. But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I just want to make sure I don't pay the 5% to Mass and then have to pay 6% to NJ. I sounds as though I wont. I will end up saving $3200 assuming dealers in NJ wont budge from MSRP, the 4 hour ride will be well worth it.
• psuwifepsuwife Member Posts: 29
That is how the cookie crumbles. We are doing the extra 1% in PA taxes after we get our van to PA and go to the DMV office. Also, our insurance company has told us to take the plates off our old van, which we are NOT driving to MA and put it on the new Honda van and bring it back to PA and then go into the DMV office and do all the paperwork. This seems to be the way to go.

I ordered my Silver Touring with NAv through Bedard Brothers around the 20 of October. The VIN# should be here anytime soon. I will write about the entire process as soon as I get my van. Good luck.

Nothing lost in talking to people. The edmunds site has been invaluable in helping me with the best price and where to go. The least I can do is to return the favor to future readers of edmunds.
• stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,569
I spoke with them also, and went to the DMV. Basically, you will only pay the 1% difference to NJ, since you will have a sales contract that clearly shows the 5% being paid to Mass. So, you should not have to pay twice.

The hard part about buying in Mss (at least from this dealer) is that they do not have temp/transport tags (like you would get in NY or PA). You have to pay in advance (in full), and they will overnight the paper work to you. You then have to go into the DMV and register it (and pay the 1% difference in tax). Once you have the registration and plates in hand, you can go get your new van.

This deal only makes sense if you either live close enough to make multiple trips there, or don't need them to finance or take a trade in. Almost works more like Ebay.

This is why even my insurance agent suggested that I take the plates from my present van which I am not trading in and come back from MA and take the new vehicle to the PA DMV office and get the new plates. I am not paying them in full before I see the van :-),also I have said that I do not want my van being test driven by anybody. I wrote that clause into the purchase order. Icecream bought his van from them and he was also very happy with the entire process. He is from Ohio. Lets see how things work out.

Try the internet department of "Ken Garff Honda Ogden". They were offering $1800 below MSRP. Initially, they might come back to you and say that they can offer $1500 below MSRP but if you persist they will offer it to you for $1800 below MSRP. However, I think they do have a $299 documentation fee.

I bought a EX-L at $615 below MSRP+desitination fee from South Bay Honda on 11/3. Since then I have recieved offers upto $1000 below MSRP in Bay area of Northen California. My previous car was total by an accident so I couldn't wait. If you can wait the price is really coming down quickly. I went to dealers last 2 weekends and saw many 2005 Odyssey on the lot without customers. I think the demand is not as high as most people think. Before I bought it I knew about the wind blowing noise of this model from this forum. My car actually has the problem and I has an appointment to bring the car back to replace some part. Honda had known this problem more than 1 month the dealers should fix the cars in their inventory before selling them so the customers don't waste time to visit the delaer multiple times.

To get the right price for your model, just change the invoice price in my calculations & recompute the rest. You can get the invoice for all models from edmunds.com

This url can give u the invoice for all models

I'm expecting my van on 11/15. The deal should be MSRP with some discounts on accessories. That should get me to a few hundred below MSRP on the total deal.

Of course, if anyone else is closing deals below MSRP in southern CA, I'd love to know. So far, I've yet to see any.

My insurance company says so. When I was given this advice by Bedard Brothers I was quite sceptical. But insurance people came back with the same answer.

So if anybody on this board thinks that this is not a good idea please do write to this site. Until I get my van I seem to be checking this site every few hours. HE HE HE!!!

We've received a written offer on Touring Nav/Res in SoCal for $500 off MSRP, and a verbal from a different dealer for $800 off MSRP. Haven't yet completed a deal so we don't know if these are games or not. Will post final results once we complete deal. May take a few weeks to get color/model combo we are looking for.

Could you name the dealers in Northern CA charging $1000 below MSRP, I could fly there and drive one back home for the right deal or I might be able to use the price/dealer info to soften up a local dealer's price.
• coach87coach87 Member Posts: 11
Sorry, but I need to know some details in order to make your information useful. How much below MSRP did you pay, and at what dealership in San Diego. All I need is one good deal not to far from home and bam! I buy.

I am from Oregon - where there is no sales tax.

Now, if I get a good deal from other state e.g CA or Idaho, do I have to pay sales tax.

The tax on $30,000+ car would be a lot - may eat whatever, I save from a good deal

I do not have Honda but let me tell you about drivimg without plate.....I'm in California and i got a car from (toyota Sienna) from Boston,MA
I drove it without plate back to California....You only need your Insure to fax to you the your insure.....If the police stoped you (like they the to me) You just give your papel that is the end....Continuo driving and you have what ever time NJ give you to register.

Good luck

QUOTE: DOES THIS MAKE SENSE ?...All dealers are expecting a profit of 15% or more in November, isnt this too much ?

Your estimates are in line with what is given at carbuyingtips.com. Generally, 3-5% is suggested for automobiles. This, however, might be too low for vehicles in greater demand. Also, the final price does depend on what part of the region you are getting you vehicle from. IMHO, 10% profit is a fair margin even for the vehicles with high demand. BTW, good luck with your purchase.

I just purchases an 05 Odyssey too. One thing that seemed strange was that there was no floor mat to cover the floor fasteners between the captain chairs in the second row. Is it the same in your van as well? This was the only LX that I have seen.

Let me know if you can.
Thanks

I just ordered a Touring with Nav/Res from Bedard in MA. I called last week to see if $950 over invoice I saw on Edmunds was real and was told it was. At first, they said I'd have to pay a sales tax if I picked it up in MA but, when I told them this would be a deal breaker, the saleman said they'd deliver it to my house in NH. There's no sales tax in NH! The PO came via fax yesterday at $950 over invoice with no charge to deliver it about 100 miles away. Should get it in 6 to 8 weeks.

Hi yjfu:

Can you please tell me which other dealers in Northern California (Bay Area) did you have offers up to $1000 below MSRP?

I'm looking to buy an Odyssey in San Jose area. I'm willing to travel up to 500 miles to get a good deal.

As to confirm your observation, I visited Honda of Stevens Creek and they had about 19 Odys on the lot about 2 weeks ago. I know the demand is not as great as before for the Ody, but the internet manager for SC Honda was arguing that the market value for the car is MSRP and above and he couldn't sell it for less. After 3 miutes of talking to him, he said he'd ask (someone) to see if he could sell it for $500 below MSRP. I told him I wanted $2000 under. That was a long shot but I'm willing to wait to get a better deal.

Thanks
• takafoomi1takafoomi1 Member Posts: 8
I'd like to thank all of you for passively informing me about the prices the dealers are throwing out there. I look at Edmunds every day. We bought our Ody EX-L w/RES for $1500 off MSRP from Middletown Honda. It's midnight blue. Other dealers in the area offered everythign from $0 off MSRP to $500. But Middletown was the most aggressive out of the box.

The answer varies from state to state. Here's the relevant portion of the NJ statute.

39:3-33. Markers; requirements concerning; display of fictitious or wrong numbers, etc.; punishment

The owner of an automobile which is driven on the public highways of this State shall display not less than 12 inches nor more than 48 inches from the ground in a horizontal position, and in such a way as not to swing, an identification mark or marks to be furnished by the division; provided, that if two marks are issued they shall be displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle; and provided, further, that if only one mark is issued it shall be displayed on the rear of the vehicle…

. . .

No person shall drive a motor vehicle the owner of which has not complied with the provisions of this subtitle concerning the proper registration and identification thereof, nor drive a motor vehicle which displays a fictitious number, or a number other than that designated for the motor vehicle in its registration certificate...

. . .

A person convicted of displaying a fictitious number, as prohibited herein, shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment in the county jail for not more than 60 days.

I am re-posting my negative experiences with Vacaville Honda and Autowest Honda in Roseville, both in Northern California. Please stay away from these dealerships.

I finally bought an EXL Navi RES in Silver Pearl with gray interior on 10/30. I bought it for $500 below MSRP at Manly Honda in Santa Rosa in Northern California. They were great to deal with and very low pressure. I had major problems at two other Northern California dealerships that I would like to share:

I had received a written quote for $500 below MSRP from Charmichael Honda, but they did not have the van I wanted–EXL Navi RES.

At Honda of Vacaville, I was told they only do MSRP on my first visit. On my second visit to look at an EXL Navi RES in Sage Brush Pearl with olive interior, I was promptly told that they would price match for $500 below. After looking over the van for a few hours and calling my 8-month pregnant wife to view the interior color, I went to discuss a deal. The salesman then told me that van was not for sale as it was “pre-contracted for” and another salesman had forgotten to list it on the board. I was then told that I could pre-contract for MSRP because he was mistaken about price matching. He told me they did sell an EX for $500 below, but only because it had been on the lot for 21 days and why would he sell me a Navi model for below MSRP when he could easily sell it for more. I told him because he promised me that price and I just wasted several hours looking over a van that I could not buy. He said it was MSRP only.

I then called Autowest Honda in Roseville and learned that they had a Navi in Slate Green. I told the internet manager that I had been quoted $500 below MSRP and after he talked to his sales manager, he agreed to match it. I drove up there (about 40 miles) and he stated that he could do the deal for $5 below MSRP. I thought he was joking and said $500 below. He said it was $5 below and he thought that was fine because I said I would not pay MSRP. Who buys a $34,000 car and wants $5 off?!? And why would he need to check with a sales manager to do that?!? Needless to say, I immediately left.

By then, my wife had called Manly Honda in Santa Rosa (70 miles) and they quickly agreed to sell for $500 below MSRP. They put the van through PDI and detailed it while I was on my way. After a thorough inspection and test drives, they cleaned the van up while I did the paperwork in one hour. While they did try to sell me useless items (vehicle etching, leather guard, extended warranty), they were very low pressure.

I have enjoyed this bulletin board and have learned great information from it. Please benefit from my experiences and DO NOT BUY from Vacaville Honda and Autowest Honda in Roseville. They tried to pull their dirty tricks to get me to invest my time and energy at their dealership and then change their prices–the old bait and switch. When I called them on it, they could care less because they take the attitude that there are hundreds of potential customers out there. Please help me to let them know that Odyssey customers are smarter than that.

BTW, the van is awesome!!!

Has anyone who ordered from Bedard Honda received their car yet? What was the process? Did you have to pay the entire amount in advance before you could pick up the car? I guess so since you need a receipt to get registration and plates to pick up the vehicle, right?

We just called Bedard and they confirmed the price with a fax of the bill of sales. The bill of sales confirmed the price of $960+50 over invoice but nothing about the $1000 deposit or paying the sales tax. So when can you register the car?

If anyone picked up their car, were they happy with it? This deal sounds too good to be true.

Jasper Honda Internet Manager says the $30k EXL-RES was a "special circumstance" and offers for $30,900. Not sure what this includes or doe snot include as far as dealer options or fees go.

Honda Carland in Roswell GA says $33,100 is bottom line and best deal in ATL... meanwhile Paul Carey Honda in ATL area beats their offer by over $2,000.

Be careful out there! The local Honda dealers are high on high margin odyssey with the 05 Odyssey...

I just got a quote for an 05 EX-L R&N from Crown Honda in Charlotte, NC for MSRP out the door. This includes 3% Sales Tax, $299!! Doc fee, and $199 tag.
This means approx. 1500 below MSRP without any argument on one of, if not the most popular model, and local dealers even have it in stock once in a while. Regardless, this is from a dealer that wasnt willing to budge from MSRP on 9/22. This is to Honda dealers: PRICES ARE GOING DOWN WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!

Thanks njlaw.

The PA Statue (Title 75, Chapter 13, Subchapter C) appears to be similar:

1372. Unauthorized transfer or use of registration.

No person shall:

1. allow a registration card or plate or permit to be used by any person not authorized to use it or on any vehicle other than the vehicle for which it was issued;
2. use any registration card or plate or permit unless authorized to do so; or
3. display a registration card or plate in, on or in connection with any vehicle other than the vehicle for which it was issued.

I initially paid $500 via CC as a deposit to order a Ody Touring at another dealer. I located a better deal at a different dealer in which I can purchase Ody at INV+515+950+50. If I did not sign any papers with the first dealer, is it just a matter of disputing the charge with my CC company? What are my options?

>2. use any registration card or plate or permit unless authorized to do so; or>
Hmm... They may be quoting this. I think I better go in and get a letter from both the insurance agent as well as my DMV office before going on my carpet ride to pick up my silver van :-) Thank you for the heads-up. I am just waiting for the VIN# to come in.
• pkapka Member Posts: 56
Fox,
when you paid with CC, you must have signed a credit card slip or invoice or sales bill or order form? Please let us know what happens!
• gttmgttm Member Posts: 4
I put $500 deposit when ordered an Ody. At the time, the sales rep also agreed that if they could not locate one for the color i want in 7 days, we do not have to stick with the deal. This was not in writing, however.

Can I get my $500 back if they failed to locate a van in 7 days? Anyone has similar experience? Also, what if for some reason I decided not to go with the deal anymore.
• foxhoundmefoxhoundme Member Posts: 29
The transaction was taken over the phone, where I provided my CC#. I did not sign any documentation. The deal was provide your CC# and they would order the vehicle.
• fredf3fredf3 Member Posts: 21
You do not own the vehicle until you physically take possession of it. By law (at least in California, but I'm sure elsewhere) they cannot keep your deposit. Demand a refund and I'm sure they will return your deposit. Good luck.

My wife and I are in the process of adopting a baby and so with all the car seats in my back seat, there's no room for anyone or anything else. We're thinking of trading my Passat in for a 2005 Odyssey EX-L RES. The issue is that I've got 22 payments left on the lease. The payoff amount on the car is $20,205, so as expected, the Honda dealership rolled the payoff amount into my monthly payments for just an EX: $500/mo. on a 36 mo. lease and $550/mo on a 72 mo. finance plan. I don't have a lot of details because we just started talking and he left me a voice mail with the above figures. When I call him back, what kinds of questions should I ask him? Thanks in advance.
