    Anyone know where I can get a good deal on a 7 yr/100,000 Honda Care Warranty? I was quoted $1385 for this on my new 05 Touring NAV/RES. Hopefully, I can do better. Thanks!

    "I gave the F&I guy the $1085 number and he agreed to match it. After everything was signed I asked what his cost was, $895."

    Are you absolutelly sure you got HondaCare policy? When I called three different Mazda dealers to get extended warranty for our Mazda MPV, all quoted me prices on third-party policies.

    By then, my wife had called Manly Honda in Santa Rosa (70 miles) and they quickly agreed to sell for $500 below MSRP.

    That's interesting: we live closer to Santa Rosa than you do, and Internet Sales at Manly Honda told my wife over the phone that they weren't interested in selling us an Odyssey because we lived too far away. I've never heard a line like that before, and I still haven't figured out what his real reason for disinterest might have been.

    But it sounds like you got what you wanted. I hope you enjoy it!

    they are actaully perfectly happy to sell you a car if you show up to buy it. What they aren't interested in is giving you a price to wave at your local dealers to get them to meet or beat it.

    What is true "MSRP" for Odyssey 2005 EXL with NAV&RES? I am not sure what is the right number to negotiate from. Is destination fee included in this MSRP? Should all dealers waive the Doc fee? Please help I am trying to negotiate tonight.
    THANKS
  • ecarmackecarmack Member Posts: 161
    The MSRP including destination on the EXL-R&N is $34,610 ($34,095 + $515 dest). Invoice is $30,964 ($30,449 + $515). Evaluate the doc fee based on the deal you get. I have seen some places that do not charge anything, and others that try to add $399. I think $50-$100 is reasonable if you are getting a good deal. If you are paying close to MSRP, it is hard to stomach additional fees. Perhaps they will waive it for you. Everything is negotiable.

    FYI, I have a deal in Ohio for an EXL-R&N for $32,000 (about $1,000 over invoice w/no trade) with a $100 doc fee. Try to use deals around the country (ex. Bedard Bros.) and internet quotes to get a better deal locally. My van will be built in a week or two, and I will post a follow-up once the deal is finalized. Good luck.

    I just inked an Ody EXL deal with a local dealer for $1510 off MSRP today. They also gave me the highest trade-in value among 4-5 dealers for my current van, a 3.64% 60 month finance deal, and a free all season floor mat. Here is how I got here and the current situation in the central NY area.

    Last Saturday, we did another test drive in a dealer one hour drive from where we live, which had 8 EX on the lot (see my post #6664). They refused to offer too much on an EXL when I mentioned we were planning to go to Bedard Bros. MA (5 hours drive) to get a deal of $950 over invoice. But they were flexible if we took an EX off their lot that day (it was 10/30/04, the last business day of the month). We walked away as we wanted an EXL and they did not seem to be able to make a reasonable price.

    This Monday (11/1/04), just when I was talking to the sales rep at Bedard Bro. in MA, the sales rep from dealer we visited on Saturday called me and was willing to give me $1505 off MSRP for an EXL (which they have to locate). I asked him to put in writing because I saw some posts in this forum that quotes over the phone can be false. He did and faxed us the offer. In our previous trip to this dealer, they only gave a very low quote on my trade in. To make the matter simple, I did not consider the trade in when we talked about taking $1505 off MSRP.

    Today, I called two other big local dealers (all within 30 minutes drive). To my surprise, they were all willing to match the price I got ($1505 off MSRP). This was a different picture from last week! So we visited these two dealers. At the second dealer (which we visited one week ago and got MSRP and a highest quote for my trade-in), this time they matched with $1510 off MSRP, then throw in a free all season floor mat ($159 value). They kept the quote on my trade-in.

    When talking to another person about maintenance or other matters, this person happens to do finance too. They gave us a rate at $3.64 for any length of 1-60 months with principle of $25,000 and over (we got a rate at 4% for 36 months from our bank earlier today). So we can basically put $0 down (actually $500, which is the amount we put down today) and just finance the entire amount (no penalty on paying off early). This seems the best deal we can get so far. Although still more than $1000 more expensive than if we go to MA, we decided to go with this deal. So we signed the paper work. They have a silver with gray interial EXL now, two touring (one blue and one silver) and do not have a car with the color(s) I like. They said they will locate one (dealer trade) for me.

    I want to thank everyone on this forum very much for providing hints, suggestions, and experiences. I hope mine would help some of you too. The bottom line is: do ask and let dealers know what other options you have. So far it seems that quite a number of dealers are willing to compete. The market today is different from last week, and from the beginning of the time when Ody 05 just came out. By the way, I did call several other dealers within 150 miles from where I live and some still do MSRP, some are willing to offer $500-1000 off.

    All three dealers I mentioned are reasonable and did not push or lie. I recommend them to you if you are interested.

    I will post more once I pick up my car.

    Glad things worked out for you. Of course, if the other dealer you went with in Richmond is in Mechanicsville, it is the same ownership group. So they are happy either way.

    Did you find a specific color you were looking for? Did you opt for the Touring NAV/RES model?

    Purchased a Touring w/Nav & Res at Castle Honda in Morton Grove, Chicago this past Saturday. Overall, a reasonably pleasant experience. We had settled on the '05 Honda because of the cool Nav., larger than standard video, and safety features.

    Kept asking around until the dealers started to show some signs of flexibility. Went in thinking about putting a deposit on a car to be built, turned out they had the model we wanted on the lot, a sage/bluish color with about 60 miles on the odometer. Bought it for $1000 under MSRP, KBB "Good" book price on my 8 year old trade without too much trouble, and a set of wheel locks thrown in. Standard Ill. fee to transfer plates and apply for the title, about $53 for the evil doc. fee, and sales tax on the net balance after the trade allowance, no other "packing" on the contract and no pressure for silly extras. Took about 90 minutes to do the whole deal. Showing up with checkbook in hand on the last day of the month probably helped.

    Only gripe is that the car was missing one headset and the navi manual, but the dealer has them on order for me. My sense is that if we had waited longer or shopped harder we could probably get the price even lower, but we have a trip planned and didn't want to wait much longer or spend too much of our own time in the hunt.

    Good luck shopping all & thanks for all the tips.

    Shopping Done.

    We went with Richmond Honda, which I believe is the same ownership group. We are getting the Touring NAV/RES modle in slate green with olive interior. Supposedly there is only one in the state that is currently available, and he will
    try to get it. If he is unable to do so, then there is one in production now, and it and will be arriving the 1st or 2nd week in December - which is fine with us. We are looking forward to getting a new van! (we currently own a 96 Town & Country with LOTS of miles on it).

    Quote: I have a deal in Ohio for an EXL-R&N for $32,000 (about $1,000 over invoice w/no trade) with a $100 doc fee.

    I think this is an excellent deal. Good luck w/ everything. Look forward to hearing further details after you pick up the van.

    Does anyone know if non-Honda Care extended warranty is OK? JM&A (Fidelity insurance owns) with 7 year/100K mile with $100 deductible for $900.
    Also, I have read on this site COSTCO is best. I see they offer via capitalone 3.4% for 30 mth or 4.1% for 60 mth. Any other deals that are better.
    Thanks

    I am going to buy a EXL or EXL+DVD in Texas or Oklahama area. I did use internet to get quote but all answers I got are MSRP. Does anyone know which dealer sell it under MSRP? Thanks in advance!

    Mark Roberts Honda in Bartlesville, OK will sell for a minimum of $500 discount per their web site which you can look up using the dealer name. They list inventory and show the price, color model and stock number. I bought 3 Odysseys there on and one Caravan and have a 05 EXL R and N on order for delivery soon. They are by far the most honest and straight forward I have ever worked with. They even give a nice jacket with every purchase.

  • ecarmackecarmack Member Posts: 161
    The Honda Store in Boardman (Youngstown area). I'll let you know if the actual numbers change when the van comes in, but the internet person seemed honest. The first quotes were $32,450 for the EXL-R&N, and $36,500 for the Touring R&N. I asked if she could do $32,000 even based on other deals I was hearing about, and she said yes in writing. I put down $500, and the van is being built the week of the 15th.

    Sunnyside Honda in Middleburg Heights (Cleveland) gave quotes at MSRP, but quickly matched the Boardman quote. The internet guy is very straightforward. When the sales manager was told that Boardman was discounting that much, he sarcastically said "Boardman would." I hope he was just ticked that Boardman was discounting as usual, and not that they usually play games. But since he matched the price, I think it is real. Sunnyside had a Silver Pearl Touring R&N in stock that I was considering. Even though the black leather was tempting, I couldn't justify the extra $4,000-$4,500. I wasn't sold on the PAX tires, and with three kids and lots of young cousins and friends, I actually preferred having the small 8th seat in the EXL.

    I recently requested a price quote from the Honda website from this dealership. The following was cut-and-pasted from the email I received:

    "I am comitted to making your car buying experience affordable, efficient and
    enjoyable. I can also tell you that the Internet quote price is not the "Best
    Price". The "Best Price" I give is when the customer is sitting in front of me."

    First of all, run your email through spell-check idiot! You spelled "committed" wrong!

    Second, this bozo should check their homepage. It says: "To get the best price please send an E-mail to our Internet Manager".

    He's already said in his email that he will not give you the "best price" unless you're sitting in front of him.

    The whole purpose in Internet sales is to avoid this whole 3-4 hour ordeal of "haggling" for the "best price".

    I really wish American Honda would provide their dealers with specifications on what exactly "Internet Certified" actually means. Can't they understand that we don't want to sit in a dealership for 3-4 hours to get a price on a car. It should be as simple as "Here is the price" period!
  • dv8tordv8tor Member Posts: 23
    I forgot to mention that this dealer NEVER did give me a "best price" quote...
  • yahoo2yahoo2 Member Posts: 28
    I also went to Santa Monica Honda. $5500 over MSRP! Are they serious?! The first time I went in the sales guy said "maybe we can knock off a good chunk of the dealer markup" HOW ABOUT ALL OF IT PLUS A COUPLE OF GRAND! The second time in another sales guy, with a straight face, says "Oh, it comes in from the manufacturer with the markup (clearly written with a marker) but I'm sure we can work on it a bit" OK. You go ahead and work on it. The last time in "the best we can do is MSRP". In that case I could do that at any dealer and better. I can wait. I'm in no hurry.
  • ecarmackecarmack Member Posts: 161
    I just got an email from Friendly Honda in Clinton Township offering an additional $1,000 off the price they previously quoted. Unfortunately, I don't remember what that price was. Probably close to MSRP, but at least now they are willing to deal more.
  • bepetebepete Member Posts: 11
    Actually, I think Richmond Honda is a separate group. Nevertheless, Slate Green sounds like a really nice color. You will love the Touring NAV/RES. Congrats!
  • repeterepete Member Posts: 1
    Agreed - I have had the same experience with internet managers in the Jacksonville, FL. area.

    I requested a price via email and got the standard verbiage, "Hello, my name is X, I am the Honda Internet Sales manager and want to make your buying experience a pleasure. Blah .. Blah Blah". No price was given. I go in to the dealership and he tells me that the salesmen on the floor are getting $1000 over MSRP, but he will sell it at MSRP. I left. However, the trip was well spent because it was my first test drive.

    I have to say the van I drove was somewhat disappointing. I heard severe wind noise at approx. 50 mph. The engine shifted smoothly but engine noise was louder than expected, especially after reading about Active Noise Cancellation (ACN). The internet manager did state that he sold a car a week earlier with the same problem and "the service department knows how to fix it".

    How does one obtain accurate pricing info without physically visiting every dealer? Are there dealers in North FL. South GA. area willing to give a "best price" through an email?

    good condition, has power sliding doors, power seats, cd, alloy wheels, privacy glass, roof rack beside the standard features, 42k miles.

    Kelly's blue book says trade in 16200 and private party 18400. However, Edmunds says that trade-in is 15100, and private party is 16300. Which one is more accurate?

    Kelly's blue book also states the wholesale/retail breakdown is 18375 and 22525 respectively.

    So I am a bit confused on which one to use? The seller has agreed to somewhere around 17500, is this a good deal? It doesnt' have any warrenty left.

    This is around San Franciso, ca.

    thanks.

    The important thing is do you think it's a good deal to sell it at $17,500?
  • mom2threemom2three Member Posts: 10
    Does the $1085 include any deductible. The best I have found here in Virginia is $1210. I am going to purchase it soon because we have the Touring with Navi/DVD...with 3 doors that are automatic I am sure one of them will malfunction at least!!!!!

    Used Odysseys get crazy money. Try asking over in Real-World Trade-In Values for yet another opinion.

    Browse the discussion a bit to get a feel for all the info you need to give Terry and the gang for a quick response.

    You may be happy with the number now, but there's no use leaving money on the table for the dealer if you can help it.

    What a joke! Not funny to you. I just ordered from Bedard Bros in Mass a touring with Nav. Thanks to this forum I will save $3k, compared to the dealers in Northern NJ who at best will give me $-300 to $-1000 off.

    I was going to purchase another GC from dodge until I drove the touring. What a difference! They have to knock off $10K to sell the GC to me. Then I would still have to think about it. Considering our 98 GC has 115K with a new tranny, fuel pump and just recently a new water pump installed. Anyway good luck finding a lower price. They are out there.
  • majordadmajordad Member Posts: 43
    Apparently all this references to Bedard Bros has resulted in them being swamped with calls from out of state buyers. I just called and the internet salesman said let me guess, "Edmunds, right." He was busy with several customers but will come me back shortly. Hopefully, this $3K off MSRP is a reality and I can have something shipped post haste. Wish me luck.

    Good! I'm glad they're being swamped, especially if it results in actual sales for them. Seems to me like a business owner's dream. And, I'm glad he knows where the word is being spread - we sure like it when good dealerships get business from the word of mouth spread by our great members!

    Hopefully this dealer's sales are way down with this attitude. However, I am still getting quotes well over MSRP (Hollywood Honda "special internet price of $1200 over MSRP". But, just today I got my first $1000 under MSRP quote from a Southern California dealer in the LA area. As soon as I complete the deal, I will post the dealer name.

    I read prior to buying my EXL Navi that there was possible wind noise coming from the windshield. I tested three vans and did not hear it. I have had my van for one week and the wind noise just started. What needs to be fixed? Thanks.

    From wandering the back lot yesterday (looking at colors), the one dealer by me (in NJ, and a big one) had at least 15 Odys that I could find. Not sure if there were more hiding elsewhere, but there definitely in stock.

    The other dealer we visited (to see more colors) had 5 that I saw, but that was just out front and in the showroom. I know that had quite a few more out back.

    FYI,

    I suspect the guy who just posted about Browns is a salesperson. Someone with the same name is answering their requests for quotes by email.

    FWIW, I know someone who recently e-mailed several DC area dealers looking for quotes. Browns did not give him a price, but just kept trying to get him into the dealership claiming they would meet or beat any offer. When he cited the Bedard offer on this site (he actually does have the standard offer from Bedard), someone with the same name who posted here said he would not sell anywhere near that price. I guess the guy heard about this site and decided to try to pump his business. Notice the guy still will not give an actual price, just says it is lower.

    anz, which dealership?

    I'm moving to northern VA in late December and hoping to buy an '05 Odyssey EX-L w/ NAVI and RES before the year ends. I'm currently researching prices and quotes in the entire region, and I just may go to Brown's Honda after I arrive. If I do, you can be sure I'll post my experience on this forum (a word of warning to those who want to hype their businesses).

    But for those who bought from Bedard Bros. in MA and live in another state -- if you flew, which airport did you fly into?

    Several were willing to discount when I tried a few weeks ago. Jacob's will give $1,000 off without a fight. I know the Elgin dealer was willing to discount, and a couple others were also willing to discount $1,000 (too many towns up there to remember the names).

    Just bought a Desert Rock EX-L with RES at Jasper Honda in Jasper, AL today. My wife and I drove the car back 200 miles to Memphis where the dealers were still demanding MSRP for '05 Ody's.

    The deal that we got was very similar to what martyb said he got in his earlier post. We paid a total of $30,000 out the door without taxes. The price included the documentation fee ($199)and VIN etching fee ($199). Including a few options minor options that was thrown in the cost appeared to be about $550 over invoice pricing.

    The sales people at Jasper were very friendly from the beginning. I checked on their inventory by looking at the Jasper Honda website (www.jasperhonda.com) and the salesman told me that he would match the price that was offered for martyb. I asked him to send me a quote with the VIN number and he faxed it immediately. That and a $500 deposit held the car for me till I could pick it up this morning.

    While waiting for the paper work to process (about 15 minutes), I asked the Jasper Honda guy why their deals were much better than what you could find in big cities. He stated that the way Jasper Honda sustained their business was by attracting customers from near by big cities like Birmingham and the way to get them to drive 45 miles (or in my case 200miles) was to offer substantial discounts.

    The whole experience was thoroughly professional and the dealership gets high marks in customer care. I appreciated the fact he was not trying to sell me things I did not need.

    I would strongly recommend Jasper Honda to all concerned. I tried to deal with Fletcher Honda but they did not have any inventory and when one EX-L/RES did come in the salesman wanted me to pay $1500 over invoice.

    The drive from Jasper to Memphis was fun and my wife really enjoyed driving the new Ody. The upgrades from our '99 Ody is quite noticeable from a comfort, handling and noise standpoint.

    We sure are glad we waited for the new Ody.

    Purchased White EX-L with Cross Bars, Wheel Locks, Splash Guards, Cargo Tray, and Stripes at the Richmond Honda in Richmond, VA.

    Price Paid: $28,985 (MSRP - $1,310) + $515 (Destination Charge) = $29,500 before taxes and fees.

    Hello! This is my first post but i've been reading this discussion for a while now. I think this is really good! People get to actually benefit from other people's experience :)

    I just want to know if there is anybody here who has purchased an EX-L RES with some accessories in the Eastern Iowa Region (Iowa City, Cedar Rapids area).

    I am planning to buy one. I have contacted 2 dealers and both offered MSRP. No discounts except for one accessory (one was 3rd row sunshade and the other was a bike rack) which they are willing to throw in for free.

    Thanks and i hope somebody can help me out.

    If you are a member of BJs Wholesale Club, you can check out their auto program and they'll give you the number of a participating dealership that will give you a discount -- I've found $1000 off MSRP. You may not have to be a member, when I called the number on the website to ask for a dealer they didnt ask for my membership info.

    The best quote i got was $400 off MSRP. Anyone got anything better ?
  • bumperbumper Member Posts: 9
    I want to buy an EX-L model. This is my research so far.

    MSRP: ---------------------> $30,295.00
    Invoice: ------------------> $27,033.95 (A)
    Factory hold back (2 %): --> $ 616.20 (B)
    Dealer's total cost -------> $26,417.75 (A-B)
    Fair Profit (10% for Nov)--> $ 2,641.75 (C)
    Sub Total -----------------> $29,059.53 (A-B+C)
    Destination Charges -------> $ 515.00
    Total ---------------------> $29,574.53

    Tax & Title (approx 8-10%)

    DOES THIS MAKE SENSE ? Or Am i smoking pot ?
    All dealers are expecting a profit of 15% or more in November, isnt this too much ?
