Are you absolutelly sure you got HondaCare policy? When I called three different Mazda dealers to get extended warranty for our Mazda MPV, all quoted me prices on third-party policies.
That's interesting: we live closer to Santa Rosa than you do, and Internet Sales at Manly Honda told my wife over the phone that they weren't interested in selling us an Odyssey because we lived too far away. I've never heard a line like that before, and I still haven't figured out what his real reason for disinterest might have been.
But it sounds like you got what you wanted. I hope you enjoy it!

FYI, I have a deal in Ohio for an EXL-R&N for $32,000 (about $1,000 over invoice w/no trade) with a $100 doc fee. Try to use deals around the country (ex. Bedard Bros.) and internet quotes to get a better deal locally. My van will be built in a week or two, and I will post a follow-up once the deal is finalized. Good luck.
Last Saturday, we did another test drive in a dealer one hour drive from where we live, which had 8 EX on the lot (see my post #6664). They refused to offer too much on an EXL when I mentioned we were planning to go to Bedard Bros. MA (5 hours drive) to get a deal of $950 over invoice. But they were flexible if we took an EX off their lot that day (it was 10/30/04, the last business day of the month). We walked away as we wanted an EXL and they did not seem to be able to make a reasonable price.
This Monday (11/1/04), just when I was talking to the sales rep at Bedard Bro. in MA, the sales rep from dealer we visited on Saturday called me and was willing to give me $1505 off MSRP for an EXL (which they have to locate). I asked him to put in writing because I saw some posts in this forum that quotes over the phone can be false. He did and faxed us the offer. In our previous trip to this dealer, they only gave a very low quote on my trade in. To make the matter simple, I did not consider the trade in when we talked about taking $1505 off MSRP.
Today, I called two other big local dealers (all within 30 minutes drive). To my surprise, they were all willing to match the price I got ($1505 off MSRP). This was a different picture from last week! So we visited these two dealers. At the second dealer (which we visited one week ago and got MSRP and a highest quote for my trade-in), this time they matched with $1510 off MSRP, then throw in a free all season floor mat ($159 value). They kept the quote on my trade-in.
When talking to another person about maintenance or other matters, this person happens to do finance too. They gave us a rate at $3.64 for any length of 1-60 months with principle of $25,000 and over (we got a rate at 4% for 36 months from our bank earlier today). So we can basically put $0 down (actually $500, which is the amount we put down today) and just finance the entire amount (no penalty on paying off early). This seems the best deal we can get so far. Although still more than $1000 more expensive than if we go to MA, we decided to go with this deal. So we signed the paper work. They have a silver with gray interial EXL now, two touring (one blue and one silver) and do not have a car with the color(s) I like. They said they will locate one (dealer trade) for me.
I want to thank everyone on this forum very much for providing hints, suggestions, and experiences. I hope mine would help some of you too. The bottom line is: do ask and let dealers know what other options you have. So far it seems that quite a number of dealers are willing to compete. The market today is different from last week, and from the beginning of the time when Ody 05 just came out. By the way, I did call several other dealers within 150 miles from where I live and some still do MSRP, some are willing to offer $500-1000 off.
All three dealers I mentioned are reasonable and did not push or lie. I recommend them to you if you are interested.
I will post more once I pick up my car.
Did you find a specific color you were looking for? Did you opt for the Touring NAV/RES model?
Kept asking around until the dealers started to show some signs of flexibility. Went in thinking about putting a deposit on a car to be built, turned out they had the model we wanted on the lot, a sage/bluish color with about 60 miles on the odometer. Bought it for $1000 under MSRP, KBB "Good" book price on my 8 year old trade without too much trouble, and a set of wheel locks thrown in. Standard Ill. fee to transfer plates and apply for the title, about $53 for the evil doc. fee, and sales tax on the net balance after the trade allowance, no other "packing" on the contract and no pressure for silly extras. Took about 90 minutes to do the whole deal. Showing up with checkbook in hand on the last day of the month probably helped.
Only gripe is that the car was missing one headset and the navi manual, but the dealer has them on order for me. My sense is that if we had waited longer or shopped harder we could probably get the price even lower, but we have a trip planned and didn't want to wait much longer or spend too much of our own time in the hunt.
Good luck shopping all & thanks for all the tips.
Shopping Done.
try to get it. If he is unable to do so, then there is one in production now, and it and will be arriving the 1st or 2nd week in December - which is fine with us. We are looking forward to getting a new van! (we currently own a 96 Town & Country with LOTS of miles on it).
I think this is an excellent deal. Good luck w/ everything. Look forward to hearing further details after you pick up the van.
Also, I have read on this site COSTCO is best. I see they offer via capitalone 3.4% for 30 mth or 4.1% for 60 mth. Any other deals that are better.
Thanks

Sunnyside Honda in Middleburg Heights (Cleveland) gave quotes at MSRP, but quickly matched the Boardman quote. The internet guy is very straightforward. When the sales manager was told that Boardman was discounting that much, he sarcastically said "Boardman would." I hope he was just ticked that Boardman was discounting as usual, and not that they usually play games. But since he matched the price, I think it is real. Sunnyside had a Silver Pearl Touring R&N in stock that I was considering. Even though the black leather was tempting, I couldn't justify the extra $4,000-$4,500. I wasn't sold on the PAX tires, and with three kids and lots of young cousins and friends, I actually preferred having the small 8th seat in the EXL.
"I am comitted to making your car buying experience affordable, efficient and
enjoyable. I can also tell you that the Internet quote price is not the "Best
Price". The "Best Price" I give is when the customer is sitting in front of me."
First of all, run your email through spell-check idiot! You spelled "committed" wrong!
Second, this bozo should check their homepage. It says: "To get the best price please send an E-mail to our Internet Manager".
He's already said in his email that he will not give you the "best price" unless you're sitting in front of him.
The whole purpose in Internet sales is to avoid this whole 3-4 hour ordeal of "haggling" for the "best price".
I really wish American Honda would provide their dealers with specifications on what exactly "Internet Certified" actually means. Can't they understand that we don't want to sit in a dealership for 3-4 hours to get a price on a car. It should be as simple as "Here is the price" period!
I requested a price via email and got the standard verbiage, "Hello, my name is X, I am the Honda Internet Sales manager and want to make your buying experience a pleasure. Blah .. Blah Blah". No price was given. I go in to the dealership and he tells me that the salesmen on the floor are getting $1000 over MSRP, but he will sell it at MSRP. I left. However, the trip was well spent because it was my first test drive.
I have to say the van I drove was somewhat disappointing. I heard severe wind noise at approx. 50 mph. The engine shifted smoothly but engine noise was louder than expected, especially after reading about Active Noise Cancellation (ACN). The internet manager did state that he sold a car a week earlier with the same problem and "the service department knows how to fix it".
How does one obtain accurate pricing info without physically visiting every dealer? Are there dealers in North FL. South GA. area willing to give a "best price" through an email?
I emailed Quintana honda and got a response of $1050.00 off.Went there(90 miles northeast of DFW)and got a great price for my tradein.2K more than other dealers offered.
Good Luck
Kelly's blue book says trade in 16200 and private party 18400. However, Edmunds says that trade-in is 15100, and private party is 16300. Which one is more accurate?
Kelly's blue book also states the wholesale/retail breakdown is 18375 and 22525 respectively.
So I am a bit confused on which one to use? The seller has agreed to somewhere around 17500, is this a good deal? It doesnt' have any warrenty left.
This is around San Franciso, ca.
thanks.
Browse the discussion a bit to get a feel for all the info you need to give Terry and the gang for a quick response.
You may be happy with the number now, but there's no use leaving money on the table for the dealer if you can help it.

I was going to purchase another GC from dodge until I drove the touring. What a difference! They have to knock off $10K to sell the GC to me. Then I would still have to think about it. Considering our 98 GC has 115K with a new tranny, fuel pump and just recently a new water pump installed. Anyway good luck finding a lower price. They are out there.

The other dealer we visited (to see more colors) had 5 that I saw, but that was just out front and in the showroom. I know that had quite a few more out back.

I suspect the guy who just posted about Browns is a salesperson. Someone with the same name is answering their requests for quotes by email.
FWIW, I know someone who recently e-mailed several DC area dealers looking for quotes. Browns did not give him a price, but just kept trying to get him into the dealership claiming they would meet or beat any offer. When he cited the Bedard offer on this site (he actually does have the standard offer from Bedard), someone with the same name who posted here said he would not sell anywhere near that price. I guess the guy heard about this site and decided to try to pump his business. Notice the guy still will not give an actual price, just says it is lower.
I'm moving to northern VA in late December and hoping to buy an '05 Odyssey EX-L w/ NAVI and RES before the year ends. I'm currently researching prices and quotes in the entire region, and I just may go to Brown's Honda after I arrive. If I do, you can be sure I'll post my experience on this forum (a word of warning to those who want to hype their businesses).
But for those who bought from Bedard Bros. in MA and live in another state -- if you flew, which airport did you fly into?
The deal that we got was very similar to what martyb said he got in his earlier post. We paid a total of $30,000 out the door without taxes. The price included the documentation fee ($199)and VIN etching fee ($199). Including a few options minor options that was thrown in the cost appeared to be about $550 over invoice pricing.
The sales people at Jasper were very friendly from the beginning. I checked on their inventory by looking at the Jasper Honda website (www.jasperhonda.com) and the salesman told me that he would match the price that was offered for martyb. I asked him to send me a quote with the VIN number and he faxed it immediately. That and a $500 deposit held the car for me till I could pick it up this morning.
While waiting for the paper work to process (about 15 minutes), I asked the Jasper Honda guy why their deals were much better than what you could find in big cities. He stated that the way Jasper Honda sustained their business was by attracting customers from near by big cities like Birmingham and the way to get them to drive 45 miles (or in my case 200miles) was to offer substantial discounts.
The whole experience was thoroughly professional and the dealership gets high marks in customer care. I appreciated the fact he was not trying to sell me things I did not need.
I would strongly recommend Jasper Honda to all concerned. I tried to deal with Fletcher Honda but they did not have any inventory and when one EX-L/RES did come in the salesman wanted me to pay $1500 over invoice.
The drive from Jasper to Memphis was fun and my wife really enjoyed driving the new Ody. The upgrades from our '99 Ody is quite noticeable from a comfort, handling and noise standpoint.
We sure are glad we waited for the new Ody.

Price Paid: $28,985 (MSRP - $1,310) + $515 (Destination Charge) = $29,500 before taxes and fees.
No trade-in and no financing.
I just want to know if there is anybody here who has purchased an EX-L RES with some accessories in the Eastern Iowa Region (Iowa City, Cedar Rapids area).
I am planning to buy one. I have contacted 2 dealers and both offered MSRP. No discounts except for one accessory (one was 3rd row sunshade and the other was a bike rack) which they are willing to throw in for free.
Thanks and i hope somebody can help me out.
