It depends what your credit rating is. Mine is 801 and I went with the 4.5% thru my credit union even though the dealer got down to 4.3%. I just wanted the ease of my car payment automatically coming out of my check.
This was my first time buying a new car and it was a relatively easy process. I went in to one local dealer first and found out about the van and test drove it. I tried to deal with them, but they kept wanting to talk with my husband instead of me. They wouldn't come down in price at all, but threw in 10 free oil changes. I left, went home, got online, contacted three other dealers, and let them all try to get under the other. I called the original dealer back with the lowest price I had gotten. He didn't have much to say because the night before he tried to convince me that he absolutely could not lower the price.
I thought the dealer I dealt with was very fair. They originally said they couldn't get the car until the 2nd week in August. He kept checking on it and asking for it and we ended up picking it up July 28th (just in time to take on our trip to Kings Island). I would definitely buy from them again.
I felt like I got a pretty decent price. I sold my 2000 Honda on my own in one day and got a better price than if I had traded it in. Everything was very smooth and I love the new van!!!
Could you advise the dealer you received this quote from? I am in MN and this is proportionately better than the offer I just received on an 06 EXL - RES, also is there a name to the package you're looking at? I was told today that "All Honda's come undercoated from the factory. 5 year unlimited rust warranty standard, no extra cost." by a dealer today so we also are contemplating this issue... Thanks.
You're the only one I've seen that beat my price ($31,9xx) for an EXL RES NAV. Nice work! I got mine a few weeks ago and we're loving it, but still having an issue with the power sliding door. Otherwise great.
Ok, I know it's off topic, but I couldn't resist.
So we called the 1st salesperson, and told her what the 2nd salesmen said and that the deal was off. She insisted that there was some miscommunication between her and the 2nd salesmen and that they would still give us the price we originally agreed and that they just found out the 1st car they located was not available anymore, but they definetely could still locate another car we wanted, just that we needed to signed the "buyer's order" first. We woudn't trust them anymore and we wouldn't sign it without a Vin number on the order, but she and the 2nd salesmen both insisted that we had to sign it immediately that night or they wouldn't be able to start the process and get the VIN number of the car.
By now, we saw a pattern here, everytime we spoke to the female salesmen, everything seemed to be cool, they could do the price and the color, and the 2nd salesmen would call to do the paper work, and then everything was changed.
At this point, we didn't want to sign anything and didn't want to go through this deal anymore, so when the 2nd salesmen told us yet another story, we told him the deal was off and hung up. He kept calling back continuously on both home phone and my husband's cell, as we didn't want to answer, when my husband finally answered, he yelled "you won't get your deposit back!"and hung up. At that time, we were prepared to dispute the charge as soon as it becomes official.
However, they didn't give up, they had their "good" salesmen - sales manager and the 1st femal salemen, keep calling on our home phone and my husband's cell phone and emailing Thursday, and pretended nothing had ever happened and that we were still going through the buying process. We didn't pick up the calls, so they left us the VIN number in the phone message, and said they had the car ready to be picked up (last time they told us this too, and then we're told later they didn't have the car).
They are still calling continuously today (Friday), I finally responded them an e-mail and told them that they should talk to the 2nd salesmen and that when he told us another story on Wednesday night, we canceled the deal.
Anyway, the bottom line is we don't want to buy a car through them anymore, we just don't want to deal with them anymore, they played games and didn't honor their words, they go back and forth playing "good cops and bad cops" game. We are simply disgusted on this whole process.
I just want to reassure that we're not obligated on anything because we didn't sign anything, we gave them our credit card to put down a desposit but they failed to fax us a "buyer's order" with the price they promised.
Please help and comment. Thank you.
I've only driven Hondas. First a civic, then a 98 accord. If this is how Honda and its dealers treat loyal customers, count me out. HONDA beware, you make good cars but treat your customers poorly
Anyone from Honda or a nearby dealer in MA feel free to try to restore my faith in HONDA.....
First, sorry to hear about all the bad buying experiences with some of the dealerships. It looks like a lot of people are now putting down deposits on future delivery of their Odysseys. I did the same thing with mine few weeks back, so I want to share some things I observed during the process. Again, these are based on my observations, so if anyone who works for Honda or a Honda dealership and knows I'm wrong, please post (we all would want to have better buying experiences!).
1. The VIN is known ahead of time and Honda probably has assigned the vehicle its VIN even before it hits the assembly line.
2. When the dealerships orders X number of Odysseys for delivery from Honda, the VINs are provided. So, the dealer already knows the trim, color, VIN, and expected delivery date way ahead of time.
3. There is a master database of all Odysseys (including info on color, VIN, trim, etc.) that every Honda dealership can view. This allows them to see which dealerships have which cars, colors on the lot... and probably which ones have already been sold.
I observed points 1 and 2 when I went to test drive and look at the Odyssey. The dealership didn't have a Silver EX on the lot when I was there, but told me they had one on order for 8/8 delivery and I could put a deposit on it. Once I did put a deposit on it, they pulled up their spreadsheet gave me the VIN. The car came in 1 week early and when I took delivery the VIN matched. Also, my Odyssey was built (or assembly started) on 7/15. You can find this info under the 2 row captains chairs. There's a sticker underneath each seat with a date, and from what I hear that's the build (or assembly start) date.
I observed point 3 during the period I was waiting to take delivery. Another Honda dealership sent a follow up email, and I told them that the first Honda dealership offered me a silver EX for invoice. They replied to my email the next day and said they looked things up and the 1st Honda dealership didn't have any silver EXs in stock, but had a couple on delivery but both were already pre-sold. I told them they were correct, the 1st Honda dealership was out of stock, had a couple on the way, and they I was one of the people who put a deposit on one them.
So, before you put a deposit down on anything, get the VIN.
thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks!
It's really annoying, but most of the local dealers have sticker prices ~800 above MSRP because of their "add-ons" (mud-flaps, etc. - whatever). Also, most of them have crazy doc/etc. fees of $400-$500, and some try to add $200 theft protection of some sort. I don't care what they call any of it, I just want to negotiate OTD price.
We want the vehicle, but we don't feel very good about that price. Local dealers are running out of '05's (some have 0 left, only '06's), but IMO if there is 1 left on their lot that is 1 too many.
Any opinions or advice? I don't want to, but we might have to consider the Toyota Siena.
Thank You!!
If you are comparing '05 models, the Odyssey beats the Sienna hands down on the R&N features. The '06 Sienna DVD system has been improved
If you have walked out of four stores there is a reason...they don't want to sell their Odysseys for less than the next person will be happy to pay!
No different with houses or anything else. Cars sell for what the current market is.
If you do consider a Sienna you will run into the same thing!

Regrettably, that seems to be the case. I guess it comes down to how much we want the vehicle at this point.
Our top 2 "contenders" are $100 apart in price. The more expensive one has 300 miles on it (it was a dealer transfer), but it is the exact color we want and it has mud guards, pinstripe (don't care about this), and some teflon coating that dealer does. The cheaper one is our third color choice, with no dealer add-ons. How much are mud guards worth (I'm sure it's been asked before, so I'll try a little harder to find it on my own)? We're thinking of taking the lower offer if they add mud guards. That dealer is trying to find the color we want in a transfer, but I'm not counting on it.
The problem was the dealer wasn't very nice/flexible as I expected. So I said "no thanks" and walked out to think about it. I went across the street and called the Honda dealer closest to my house. I asked for the manager and informed him I am outside another Honda dealer and getting ready to do a deal in 20 minutes, but was not that thrilled with their manager and his willingness to reach an agreement. I gave them 20 minutes to see if they could do better than the current offer.
20 minutes later they called back and informed me they could not secure a 2005 model for that price. However, they would get me into the 2006 model (EX-L RES) for $31,998 OUT THE DOOR.
I drove to my local dealer to do the deal and they treated me wonderful. We put everything in writing and had my wife pick the color. I think they took pleasure in taking business away from a competing store. Now we are playing the waiting game for the vehicle to arrive.
My local dealership did a great job for us. I hope to see my car in a couple weeks. Due to the high demand for these cars, it will be interesting to see just how long it will take.
If anyone was able to beat $31.9k out the door (including tags), I would like to hear details.
Sales tax can vary WIDELY between states and counties and license fees can as well. Much better to stick with the price of the car itself.
I'm looking at the same car in NC and that's about the best price I've seen so far, but I've only just started and haven't gotten my online quotes back.
It's about $1000-$1400 over what a comparable 2005 has gone for down here (selling basically at invoice ++), but that may not be unreasonable considering the longer warranty and the better resale value of the extra model year on the back end when selling.
Who were you using for your online quote?
I have come across $31,895 and 31,721 before Taxes and all that jazz. Someone told me to go by the rule of 4-5% above invoice to get a fair price. What do you think? Any suggestions for a newbie? I'm going from a gas hog SUV to a minivan, this is big change for me and I want to make the right choice. Tanks bunches! :shades:
and the GM & ford Discounts have affected the Hondas and Toyotas , well good for the buyer, i talked to this Honda dealer near by he was willing to give the EXL -RES for $29,525 after a lot of haggling . But i wanted the NAV too so i tried another dealer couple of towns over and got the(Slate ) EXL-RES NAV for 31.500(incl dest). before Taxes,
There still are more 2005 Hondas maybe for couple of weeks , best time to make a kill (maybe not with alot of color choices).
Very nice cars.
best of luck happy hunting :shades:
You must be saying what is the catch--the dealers all laugh when I offer anything close to invoice. Well--the odyclub has the deal and it is free--you just have to register (free) and then accept the offer. odyclub.com is sponsored by a car dealer in Illinois. They have offered to sell odysseys for $99 over invoice to anyone who pre-orders an odyssey by Sept 3rd 2005 and puts down $500 (nonrefundable). You say unbelievable--well I did it because many others have too--I live in Washington DC and will pay $54 to fly Independence Air from Dulles to Chicago and it will cost about $100 in expensive fuel to get home so I will be at about $250 over invoice on an EX and I get to choose the color and options. The key is that you have to be an Odyclub member (membership is free and you just register).
If you think I am lying you can visit the forum and read the many experiences people have had buying from this dealer--you can also read the offers made in the past.
Good Luck--I hope you choose a quick and painless way to get an odyssey (it is too good a deal especially when you choose the options and colors and preorder without dealer add ons and having someone sell your Odyssey to another or try to upsell you or offer you ripoff financing)
I was disgusted by the arrogant dealers who simply said "have a nice flight" when I told them they could match the offer and get an instant customer or I could simply accept an offer elsewhere.
I was also tired of having dealers ask me to call them when I tried to set up an internet deal--I think they wanted to bait and switch or play bad cop good cop or simply tell me orally what I wanted to hear so I would come waste time with them and then they could renege and I wouldn't have any proof of anything being represented.
Is it 2005 Oddessy or 2006 Oddessy?
I will try my luck with local dealers here in NJ. I would like to buy odyssey as early as possible.
Thanks
