We were in no rush to get the van as we are expecting our third baby in November, so we waited about two months for this model and color (EX-L RES & NAV, Slate green/Olive). Within this time, we really thought about whether we will like this color or not, our other choice was the Silver pearl metallic, which is also very nice, but a very common color and has only grey interior, which we do not want as it is darker. We also liked the ivory color (for other exteriors), but it may be very hard to keep clean and would show dark spots clearly, and my wife wanted a ligher color, so we decided on the Slate green/Olive. Well, our van came to the dealer last weekend and we drove the van home yesterday. WE LOVE THE COLOR and the VAN

Please let me know the following:
-Which state did you buy this in?
-Do you feel the Van is too big and difficult to park? Are you happy with the turning radius?
-- Indiana
-- It is a bigger vehicle, especially from the one that I have been driving (98 CR-V EX), but it is not difficult to park or maneuver. No complain about the turning radius. I do remember that I had to back up (and I love the rear camera!) once because I could not make a complete turn, but it is okay and I think the turning radius would be large for a larger van like this (or any other van, right?).
-- I am specially impressed how quiet and smooth the ride is -- may be it is just me -- but after reading so many posts that Ody is not smooth and quiet, I was expecting not so quieter and smoother ride, but I'll take it
Yes, I am totally loving this van.
the 2005 Ody has a tighter turning radius than my 95 honda accord. I have a cul-de-sac(with cars parked in it) that I have to make a U turn on and Ody is easier to turn around than my accord. Also the tighter turning circle helps when reversing out of a parking spot. Having driven smaller cars before, I do have difficulty parking, especially since the vehicle is very wide, but that is just the nature of the beast. There is a specific manevure one has to do when parking to ensure that the vehicle is parallel to the parking spot, I am getting better every week.
You make it sound so simple and it isn't.
As an example, the 1999-2004 NAVI Odysseys weren't a huge seller. Most people had no use for a NAVI system it seemed.
For whatever reason, however, all of a sudden demand has SOARED for these! Once honda and the dealers realized this, it was too late to scramble up production on them! a lot of suppliers are involved etc. A lot of smart marketing people watch the trends and react accordingly but it's tough!
Then the car magazines and other reviewers com out with articles heaping praise on the new Odysseys and demand go's through the roof!
So, inventories suffer as Honda scrambles to increase production!
I guess this is a "good" problem to have but it's frustrating for everyone.
And, nobody is "flogging" customers with "ridiculous" prices either or this situation wouldn't exist! We wouldn't have empty lots if this were the case.
sy
the Hondal EXL with Res at $30750 and
the TTL was $182 and
Inventory tax at $63 (claimed to be the Inventory tax, is that ok ?)
tax was $1921
Total OTD=33,000
does that sound ok ? Everytime I question a charge, the dealer (not me but the dealer) was threatening to backout !!
I questioned the Inventory tax too, and was told that was required by the state of TX. Your numbers look pretty close to what I paid for TTL.
I had to drive 100 miles to get my ODY so Im happy and I LOVE the NAV!
I offered to pay $29,000 for an EX with Leather in Black.
They offered me $8,300 for my 2002 Accord VP with 51K. since the car was coming next week they try to pressue me into putting a $1000 deposit and I was hesitating since I wanted to sleep over it plus I was trying to get clarification on some documentary fee of $50
The finance manager is pacing the hallway and finally comes into the room and starts yelling and basically telling us to leave if we don't want to put the deposit, I just got up and walked out the door. And then as I am in my car leaving the dealership, the sales person is telling me to ignore the finance manager and as he slips me his business card, the finance manager comes outside and starts yelling "don't come back"
I know honda is a popular brand but my question is are they doing such good business?
Has anyone had such an experience with any dealership?
I am actually quite amazed. Is this business as usual at honda or should I take action? if so what?
This seems to be a good deal.
Can you pls. give the name of dealership. I am planning to buy EX-L, RES, NAV before the end of this month.
Anyone else has gotten a better deal in the tri-state area recently ?
Thanks
The whole purchasing experience was quite painless. I sent out email blasts to Honda and Toyota dealerships within a 100 mile radius of Sacramento and told them I was looking to purchase either the Odyssey or Sienna, specifying exactly which trim and option packages we were interested in. BTW, the Honda website was extremely useful as it showed all dealerships within the 100 mile radius... the Toyota site sucked as it only showed the nearest 3 or 4 dealerships closest to me. I had to enter in different cities that get dealerships within 100 miles.
All of the Honda dealerships that replied quoted me between invoice to $1200 over invoice, while the Toyota dealerships where all at invoice minus the $750 rebate. We decided to go with the Odyssey from Elk Grove Honda since 1) they offered invoice price, and 2) the Odyssey was $2k cheaper than the Sienna. When we test drove the Odyssey, they did not have the silver EX in stock, but had one on order for 8/8 delivery. So we put a $1k deposit down on it. I've read on these forums that some people have said they did not get their deposits back from some dealerships when the deal or order fell through. However, in California all deposits are 100% refundable. I specifically asked the Internet Sales manager at Elk Grove Honda about this when we were filling out the paperwork, and she was absolutely up front and honest about it and said yes it was refundable for any reason (such as if I found a better deal elsewhere). Our Odyssey arrive 1 week early, and when went to pick it up all of the paperwork was ready and waiting for us to sign. I found the Internet sales staff at Elk Grove Honda to be very honest and pleasant to work with. Everything they promised was exactly what we received.
So probably about $400 under MSRP for my 2006. Does all this jibe? Is this a good deal for Seattle?
Other dealers wanted this much or more for a 2005. Some said they could not even get a 2005. Others said they don't know the 2006 pricing yet.
I'd love to hear thoughts. Thanks!
Secondly, my wife is very interested in adding the Back-Up Sensors to this model (about $750 installed). Does anyone else have any experience in having this added to the EX?
Thanks for your feedback.
Anyway, just find another dealer.....
Tom
Both vans are good, and at invoice, the Odyssey will be ~$2k cheaper than the comparable Sienna.
I dont think there is any change, except the MSRPs; have gone up some, 2k on touring. However, I noticed the Horse Power is 244hp, 11hp less than the 2005.
I would understand if they get a better miledge accordingly, but the miledges are same.
Anyone knows why?
An analogy would be, your height didn't change, but a different yard stick is used to measure your height (maybe this is a poor analogy, I hope you understand what I am trying to say!
I have some dealers who would quote me a price + reg fee + tax, without paying any doc fee.
Great deal on your Odyssey. Thanks for sharing - I'm in the same boat except I'm comparing the EX to the LE with #6. Can you email me so I can chat with you offline about the salesperson you worked with and your decision process? Thanks.
Thanks!
Shop around one or two more dealers and start off by offering them invoice price (somewhere around 25.5k I think. Please check!) to find out where the bottom line is.
Hope this helps
