Well I got him to 25k. Again - not terrible for an EX-L, but I'd think they can do better. He also said his best price for an 08 EX-L w/ NAV/RES is 31k w/o finance.

This is Castle Honda in Morton Grove,IL

    Any advice?

My previous car was totaled yesterday by a poor driver in a RAV4. We were planning to wait until July - this just got more urgent.

I priced out much of the Chicagoland area - the best OTD price (36900.00) was from Continental Honda in Countryside, IL - great experience, honest and up-front - I highly recommend them - 2008 Odyssey Touring without pax - ask for Lou

I would go back a page or 2 and read HONDAFAN78's posts... seems like he/she? did quite abit better than $31K for the RES/NAV in Chicago area. Think I read their quote below was from Joliet....

I just got a quote for $29,854 (plus $150 doc which is standard for this area, t/t/l) for the EX-L w/ RES & NAV in the Chgo area. All my quotes were w/i $600 of this price. Debating between this and the Touring (lowest quote of $33,644) but can't decide if the Touring is worth nearly $4K more. If I go with the EX-L w/ RES/NAVI, my goal was to get it for for $30K or less, but this seemed way too easy.

Did that include the 4 year registration for NJ residents?
  • nj08052nj08052 Member Posts: 6
Yes, all included for the LX. Also included were the mats, door guard, pin strip.

    EX is for PA registration.
  • inderrinderr Member Posts: 2
This looks like a good price. Could you please post the name/location of dealer? We are in PA so may consider driving down. thanks much.

    inderr,

This price was actually given to me by Apple Honda in York, but it was price matched by Norris Honda in Dundalk. Talk to "HONDA" Harry Ngyuen at Apple Honda. He gave me a price of 31,100 OTD w/ 2.9% and 29,900 OTD w/ 4.9%. The extra money for me out the door was mud guards, wheel locks, and door edge guards. Apple said his prices included wheel locks. GOOD LUCK! I

Hi ... We are also looking to purchase an ex. A price of 24, 500 OTD sounds great. Best price we have OTD is 26,630. Can you please provide me with the dealership and sales person.. please email to mt.mc@live.com
    Many thanks!
  • shamrocksshamrocks Member Posts: 7
Sounds like a great price. Can you share the dealership you are getting this deal from? It would be appreciated. I think the Ex is worth the extra money. Depends on your needs. The lx does not have the power doors and that is a big plus for me. If you dont need the power doors.. then go for the LX.. great price.! Good luck!

Have a quote for $28220 + TTL in the atlanta area. Won't give me the 2.9 for that offer. Decent deal?

Does this allow my iPod to play through the car radio? I didn't want to buy the compartment attachtment because parts & labor would cost $800. So I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can get the piece I need to have my iPod play through the radio through this AUX jack.
    Any info is appreciated.
  • rwhkjhrwhkjh Member Posts: 8
I checked on the compartment attachment (called music link), but it's currently unavailable...guess they were having electrical problems with it. I purchased a cord that plugs into the adapter below the DVD player for $15 at Target. Works great, just wish that it would charge the iPod at the same time.
  • nj08052nj08052 Member Posts: 6
Sorry, I made a mistake. Both the prices were for PA registration.
For NJ registration it was $23,248 OTD for LX.

    Hello nj08052,

4years Registration fee in nj is $354 , tag fee is $7.5, doc is $175

    21312x1.07 = 22804
    22804+354+7.5+175 = 23340

    should be $23340, right?

    Thanks,

    $27,380 - price
    $ 1640 - tax
    $ 130 - Tax + tags

I went to 3 dealers and COULD NOT get one to agree to $27,000. Si I settled for the lowest, $27,380; I hope that was a decent deal.

I decided the Touring wasn't worth the extra 4K to me personally and went with the EX-L Res/Nav for $29,854. I debated about waiting until tomorrow to see if the incentive got any better but ultimately, didn't want to take the chance that the $2K would be replaced with something not as good for me (like a better financing deal which I didn't need). I wanted the Nimbus gray and the Touring wasn't available anywhere locally in that color anyway so I decided to go with my original plan. I also negotiated a really good deal on Hondacare. The dealership (Honda of Joliet) was fantastic, professional, no BS. Its my 2nd Odyssey purchase from them and I'd highly recommend them.

Does anyone know what dealer incentives or other rebates, etc. Honda will be offering in May, now that the $2000 dealer incentive from April has expired?
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Congrats on pulling the trigger. Always nice to get closure on the vehicle purchase process! ;) I agree with your reasoning on the incentives. I too noticed the promos were more focused on leasing and low apr's and less toward cash incentives. I also agree about the RES/NAV vs Touring decision. While we are pleased at the number of added "goodies" the Touring offers, I have to admit we too would have opted for the RES/NAV had it been offered with the blk/blk combo. Our HondaCare exchange with the F&I guy was somewhat comical.... He gave us the salespitch. I then said "No Thanks" He asked why. Told him we would get it elsewhere for less. Of course he inquired. Pulled out the Bernardi Warranty price sheet and showed him the number. He left and came back with a price sheet of his own. He said he couldn't sell it for that b/c he wouldn't make any $$$. But he could sell me the warranty for $300 MORE than Bernardi. :confuse: I scratched my head, and just said "No thanks" again. It was pretty funny. Anyway, enjoy your vehicle! :)

Very nice! I was so tired of spending time on this. I'm dying to know what May's incentives are so I just e-mailed the dealer. Either way, I'm happy to be done. I flip flopped so many times on the Touring decision. I came very close to buying the Black/black Touring but someone bought it earlier in the day. I wish the "olive" interior on the Nimbus gray wasn't quite so light, but I think I'm going to invest in mats and the cargo tray (I forget the website that offers Honda accessories at good prices but I'll find it) to protect the carpeting a bit. That's funny on the HondaCare. I didn't even wait for the sales pitch. I just pulled out the Bernardi prices and told him what I was willing to pay for it. The bus. mgr showed me his cost sheet and that was allegedly exactly his cost (I find that hard to believe--I thought their cost was more in the $500-600 range), so I offered him a couple bucks more but that was it (I don't know why I just preferred to keep my money local). I'm still getting used to the idea that we're going to have two Odysseys in the garage now, but my husband really wanted to keep our '02 for himself, so that's what we did. Anyway, thanks for your input on the decision making process. This forum is a great resource as are the nice people on it willing to share their experiences.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Kudos to you husband for requesting your other Ody. I am not quite their myself , but fully recognize it is bar-none the best vehicle for anyone with small children in tow (of which we have 3 (ages 2,4,6) + their friends, 2 dogs, groceries, etc). Off topic, I did a quick search for the cargo tray and found a couple good deals below:
    fyi~ located the cargo tray here for 66 + 30 s/h = 96: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-NEW-Honda-2005-2008-Odyssey-cargo-tray-liner-- trunk_W0QQitemZ370039489671QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3756.m20.l1116

and also saw it at Bernard for $90 + s/h: http://www.bernardiparts.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=08U45-SHJ-100
  • hondafan78hondafan78 Member Posts: 8
Aw, thanks, that was nice of you! I'll check it out. I want those mats quickly before the carpet gets dirty! My husband drives the kids to school (and they were complaining loudly about being cramped in his Camry) and has to bring a lot of cargo to his office at times. When I expressed surprise that he'd take the Odyssey rather than get an SUV or a bigger sedan, he assured me that he didn't need a gas guzzling truck or a sportier car to prove his masculinity--LOL! I was kind of impressed despite the fact that I really never aspired to owning two minivans. :-) I'm still waiting to hear on those May incentives. I'm dying to know!

Did you transfer or get new plates? My dealer is quoting me $3xx for new plates.
  • Andyboy1974Andyboy1974 Member Posts: 15
I think the $2000 incentive has increased to something higher for May 2008. I've had a south Florida dealer hounding me for weeks to buy a car and I've held firm at my cash price of $26,800 for an EX-L which is what the vehicle costs the dealer ($26,835 to be exact) after all incentives and holdbacks in the month of April 2008. If you take advantage of the special financing rate (.9%), the price is actually $27,800 because the dealer can only pass on $1000 of the $2000 incentive if you just paid cash or financed elsewhere. There are thousands of Odysseys in inventory going stale around the country, so I figure the best bet is to offer the dealer what they paid for the car to get it off the lot -- $26,800 plus TTL (tax, title, license plates). In my case, I want the .9% financing rate, so the price before TTL for me would be $27,800, which works out to be around $29,500 OTD (out the door) including TTL in Florida. First thing this morning (May 1st) he's offering it to me for $29,200 OTD, when he wouldn't go below $30,000 OTD in April. So my guess is that the incentive may have gone up by another $1000 to a total of $3000 cash to dealer. Someone please confirm.

Great forum - allowed me to pull the trigger faster than I expected to.

Got what looks to be great deal from VIP Honda, North Plainfield, NJ from MC (great guy! - really knows cars)
30803 price w/ the 2.9% Financing, would be $1000 less Cash price.
1195 for 120k/8 yr warranty (thanks again to a post)
31998 total, went out the door with
    635 destination
    2284.31 nj sales tax
    7.50 nj tire fee
    366.00 reg/title
    299.00 doc fee
    35589.81 out the door

but the most amazing thing was the sales process; simply got the car, let us take a pair of test drives, came back in, would not budge from the above price, and we did the deal - could have taken less than an hour if we wanted to. The F&I guy didn't even try to sell us an alarm system, and only blinked once when I asked him to reduce the warranty to what I ended up paying. No visits to the manager, no searching the lot for the car (they keep all their Odyssey's together).
Perhaps they wanted to get me out the door quickly on April 30th, but it was great. Got in after 7pm, and was driving home before 10pm.

This is way different than what I went through a few days before at Planet Honda, who took me through the lot for an hour looking for a car that I'm sure they knew was not there. Then, after finding it "coming in" took a deposit for about the same price, but then on the sheet conveniently forget to figure in the destination charge, or that the price was good with the 2.9%, and added back in the $200 etching. And of course, put in the car would sell "as equipped" I saw many $895 bluetooth add-ins on a lot of EX-L's on their lot.

Can anyone pls advise if the published invoice found in the internet is accurate? Do the dealers have more than 1 invoice? Is this the same invoice if you pay a few hundred dollars to Edmunds, Autobytel, etc.? Also, can anyone pls confirm the fees and w/c ones are non-negotiable? I'm in the SF Bay Area (CA) and ready to buy but research may be inaccurate. Looks like invoice postings vary between states and forumers? Selecting either dark cherry pearl (color extra?), ocean mist metallic, or baltic blue pearl. Is the calculation below correct? Pls let me know of any dealers that gave good deals. I wonder if Honda increased the holdback on the Odyssey. The holdback is not usually published anywhere for the consumer. Except maybe thru the Consumer Reports vehicle report, which is well worth the $15 if anyone is seriously considering the Odyssey.

Even though the cash-to-dealer incentive has NOT changed from last month (April), a local dealer here in Florida is now willing to go nearly $1000 lower on his best price after weeks of hounding me (see my previous post above for details). So perhaps the holdback has increased.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
could very well be the case. i had speculated that same point earlier when someone asked for opinions on if prices could go lower. heck yeah they can! when i see ads in the paper for new vehicles (ie ford) offered at "$10,000 below msrp" that tells me any one of several possibilities are at play, and none are visible to the consumer. a couple that come to mind are holdback % (as you mentioned), dealer sales quotas/bonus, salesman quotas/bonus, volume quotas/bonus, and the list goes on. seems like any of these factors could lead to a dealer being motivated to sell a vehicle at what appears to US to be a "bargain" price. all of the preceding is pure speculation on my part, but i am intrigued by the auto purchase process in that dealer A can be several thousand $ higher than others and not budge, while dealer B GLADLY offers the same exact vehicle for thousands less. kinda makes ya

I was wondering if it was worth buying the Consumer Reports Odyssey report. I requested quotes via cars.com the other day and they've been emailing me already. I've got a few quotes now. Some give detailed quotes and one just threw out a number with no explanation. Oddly, I think the first place we went to is still the lowest but I want him to go lower. I used Costco's auto buying program and for the RES + NAV package it's $300 over invoice. I think they can do better.

Is it at all possible to talk them into offering the cash rebate AND special financing? I figure I tell them if they give me both I'm signing immediately (after agreeing on price).

    Thanks.

I just bought a 2008 Odyssey LX for $21,780 + taxes & doc fees ($23,478.45 total). The dealer got 2K back, which was reflected in the price in lieu of the financing offers.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
    Hi Mike,
I've been reading this thread for awhile, and appears the consensus on both the rebate and financing is that the rebate decreases to $1K with their promo financing rates, and $2K w/o. Have not heard or read of anyone getting both.

Regarding your Costco quote, I feel $300 over invoice is terrible. I don't have my RES/NAV info any longer (we ended up w/ a Touring), but when we were pricing RES/NAV models we were getting very close to $30K + TTL. $30,187 to be exact! A decent rule-of-thumb formula is (Invoice less 2-3% msrp less incentives). That turns out to be roughly $3000 BELOW invoice!!!

Additionally, I recommend asking for dealer quotes via the Honda website. Search the thread for "donkeypunch" and you can read the details. Hope this info helps.

Oh well, all of the dealers listed have already given me quotes. I have a friend with a friend who has a contact with the general manager of a local dealership. Guy had one of his salesman call me and said since I'm his lead he'll beat any price for me and that I should come in and he'll do anything to sell me the car. We'll see...
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
you could also try getting quotes from dealers outside of your area and get your "friend of a friend of the mgr" to match it. didnt seem like my dealers cared where my quotes came from. ie we are in houston and had a very good internet quote from a dallas dealer.
  • mike20878mike20878 Member Posts: 60
    Does this sound right?

    Invoice 33,054
    Less: 3% MSRP 1,093 (3% of 36,445)
    Less: 2,000?

    $29,961?
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
sounds good to me. also sounds in line with some other RES/NAV buyers here. seems like anything around $30K or below is a decent target (plus ttl of course). ie post #19048 paid $29,854 for her RES/NAV. keep in mind i would not expect to get both that price AND the advertised financing rates. may have to add $1K back if you want the financing.... certainly makes that Costco offer of $300 over invoice or $33.3K look pretty lame, huh? ;)
  • mike20878mike20878 Member Posts: 60
So after rebate I come up with $27,960 or $28k. The guy just called me back and says they can do that + TTL. He'll basically break even. Coincidentally this guy is the same contact my boss ended up giving me! And he's not the GM, he's a part owner of the dealership! :)

How do they handle trade ins? This guy wants me to come in tomorrow but I haven't even had time to shop my car. I wanted to try webuycars.org and carmax. I don't want to rush it and have to trade my car in tomorrow on the spot. In MD the law was changed to levy sales tax on the net after trade in now, not the gross. So I'd have to weigh the difference between selling it outright to someone else vs. what I would get in trade @ 6% sales tax.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Yes, 28K certainly sounds a whole lot better than $300 over invoice. I would just be sure they dont try and change their story when you get there. I would also watch the math on their driveout price (extra fees, extra options, etc).

Regarding trade, we took ours to carmax and had that number in our back pocket. if the dealer low-balled us, we were prepared to either sell it ourselves or to carmax. our dealer happened to beat carmax by $2K, so we did the deal. but if you are getting a good deal on the Ody, they will likely try to lowball you on the trade. Obviously we did not get a good deal! :P
