Well looks like I am going to go with:

2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L RES nimbus gray/ olive int
    Selling Price $28,553.00
    Doc Fee $50.00
    DMV Fee $67.00
    Cal Tire Fee $8.75
    Eec. File Fee $28.00
    Sales Tax 7.25% $2,074.08

    Total $30,785.83

I think I could do a little better if I worked it more, but this seems good to me for CA.

Can u tell me which dealer you got this price? Did you get it from internet or phone call? I am looking for EXL only model. Thanks. I am in SJ. The best I got is $26688+TTL, it seems your TTL is very low.
  • jaysonl76jaysonl76 Member Posts: 5
This is from Val Strough (Jim Cash) in Seaside. I used donkey punch method on the internet. He was not the lowest first. South Bay in Los Gatos was, he just matched that price. There were plenty of other willing to match it. My DMV fees are low because of military non-resident rate. Monterey has 7.25% tax rate. Let me know if you need more info.

I am about to purchase a 2008 EX-L w/RES from a Bay Area dealership that has offered me:
    $28228 incl. destination
    $232 tax
    $203 license
    $28,664 OTD price (cash)

    Does this seem reasonable?

I want to purchase 96/120/0 Honda care - www.bernardiwarranty.com is offering it for $1,195.00.
Is it still okay to purchase it online ?
If yes, any other online sites to check out for better quotes ?
Wasn't there talk that Honda care should not be sold online anymore ?
  • gottaget1gottaget1 Member Posts: 17
Wow, your tax is really cheap. Yes this is very reasonable.
  • hondaacehondaace Member Posts: 4
That would be a great price. The only thing missing that you may see charges for is about $70 for tag transfer and most dealers seem to have a $300 or so dealer documentation fee. Even with these charges added on you got a great price.

In Raleigh, NC the lowest price incl destination we received a quote for was $28,063. Most other dealers would not come lower than about $28,600....

I'm not sure how that information will help you. You have to pay sales tax where you register the car. If you live in Florida, you have to pay Florida sales tax, no matter where you buy it.

Looks like a great deal! Was Richfield Honda the other one at $23,960? I am looking to buy an EX soon and they are my closest dealer. At $26k OTD I would be a buyer!

Just bought EX for $24500 OTD from Sanford Honda in NC. They also quoted EX-L for $27400 OTD. The process was very smooth. Did the paperwork within half an hour, there wasn't even a sales pitch for extended warranty or accessories.
  • vandykuttyvandykutty Member Posts: 15
can you give the breakdown for EXL please
    Thanks
  • sloth_llsloth_ll Member Posts: 3
Sorry we don't have the breakdown. The dealer took $2000+3% hold back from Invoice and reached price of $278xx. Then they knocked down another $4xx to match our EX deal, so there wasn't a break down for the EXL. Also the GM (Stacey) took the paper with the numbers and said he couldn't give the piece of paper to us.

thanks for the answer kyfdx it was just a thought.
  • twinmamatwinmama Member Posts: 6
So sorry for my bad math! I miscalculated the tax by a decimal point. Here is what I ended up paying:
    $31,050 OTD price
    ---------
    $28,388 plus TTL of $2342 (tax) + $344 (TL) =>$31,050
includes all-weather floormats plus wheel locks ($409 value)

A couple of other dealers offered $100-200 below this OTD price, but I like this dealer the best and he was closest to our home, so a plus for servicing issues!
  • lele2008lele2008 Member Posts: 5
I got the lowest quote from South Bay (Los Gatos) too. I did not decise if I need to see it yet. Since according to the formula I learned, it is still $500 above the target price. My target price is about $28500 OTD for EXL.

    The formula is as following,

    MSRP = Sticker(includes Dest. Charge)
Invoice = Can be found on Edmunds.com(include options) or kbb.com
Rebates = Vary by local dealership (I use $2000 for EXL)
    Holdback (dealer's profit) = 3% of MSRP
Estimate True invoice = Invoice - Rebates - Holdback
    tax = ?% x True Invoice
Tags = whatever your states charges (typically $100 - $400)
    Low ball offer = True Invoice + tax + tags - $2,000
Target Price = [ (MSRP - Rebate - Low ball offer) ] / 2 + low ball offer (this is basically the formula I use)
TRY TO GET YOUR PRICE AS CLOSE TO THE TARGET PRICE AS POSSIBLE!
  • lele2008lele2008 Member Posts: 5
It sounds a very good price. Can you share me which dealer who quoted to you? I am currently looking for EXL.

    Thanks

I haven't done the numbers for EX-L/RES, but the calculation I used for a target price was:
    Invoice - (2% MSRP) - incentives = target.
I saw this in an earlier posting in the thread. Curious if this formula is close to the one you're using?

33,400 for a touring in MA? Would you mind sharing which dealer is offering that deal?
  • danohdanoh Member Posts: 26
Local Dealership this weekend is offering invoice pricing plus dealer incentives ($2000 or $1000+ 2.9 APR). Beside the dealer holdback which is 960 on an EXL, can I get much better pricing?

    hi,
we are about to buy our first honda minivan and we're interested in buying the exl w/ res & navi or the touring. we live in the bay area and wanted to check what OTD prices you got for these 2 models.
    thanks for your help! :)
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
    Hi rbella,
Up towards the top of the screen you can 'search this discussion'. If you do a search for "bay area", you will see numerous posts with Bay Area info, quotes, etc. Saw a few for Tourings and RES/NAVI when looking through the results.

I'm looking for an EXL with RES/NAV. On a Sunday visit to Valley Honda in Aurora IL, I see they still have 2007 models in stock, including 5x EXL RES/NAV.

Judging by the number of 2008 EXL/RES/NAV vans going for low 30s in this forum, anyone got an idea what an untitled 07 would go for? I was thinking of bidding 26K or would that be too low? While I would prefer a 2008, if I can get an 07 cheap enough I would go for it.

Are you saying you paid an out the door price for a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX of $24,500? Or was this the base price? If so, e-mail the contact name & phone # to jpmbillsfan@yahoo.com. Thanks.

I looked at a lot of price infromation here but I am wondering if those are the price for cash or not. I need finance. In that case the total price can be similar with the pricing people posted here. Do people talk about the total price first then ask about financce? Is it normal? Thank you

I've been checking inventories of dealers in the VA, NC, DC area. I'm in western Virginia. There are very few Tourings. I realize that dealers would carry fewer of the more expensive models, but they are fairly hard to find. I found 9 silver tourings w/o PAX in VA, and 7 of those are in the DC suburbs.

How does this compare to previous years?
  • sloth_llsloth_ll Member Posts: 3
$24500 was out the door price, including destination/title tax/dealer documentation/registration. I will email the sales person's name shortly.

What is price of new 2008 honda odessey touring in chicagoland?

    anybody got good deal recently?
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
    hey imran_py
I received an eQuote from Robin at Honda of Lisle of $34,200 for Touring no PAX. (This was last week). I did not follow-up on this, as I am not in the area. But seemed like they would be nice enough to work with. In addition, I believe this dealership supports the www.odyclub.com website.

I just got quote for LX for $22.8k OTD. It is $21,312 + tag + 6% tax + 175 doc fee.
Also my friend got quote for EX for $25.6k OTD = 23.9k + tag + tax + doc fee.

    Is this a good deal?
  • cdmillercdmiller Member Posts: 2
Thats a great price... where did you get it at?
  • hondafan78hondafan78 Member Posts: 8
I just got a quote for $29,854 (plus $150 doc which is standard for this area, t/t/l) for the EX-L w/ RES & NAV in the Chgo area. All my quotes were w/i $600 of this price. Debating between this and the Touring (lowest quote of $33,644) but can't decide if the Touring is worth nearly $4K more. If I go with the EX-L w/ RES/NAVI, my goal was to get it for for $30K or less, but this seemed way too easy. It makes me wonder if the dealers are desperate to move these or if there is more money on the table. Anyone think the rebate will be more than $2K in May? Do I try to negotiate for the dealer to cut the price more or throw in something else, or should I just take this great deal and say thanks?
  • justanotherdudjustanotherdud Member Posts: 3
What I did was look at what all dealers would say, "What's a REASONABLE offer". To you a reasonable offer could be ridiculous to them... but then again do your homework for what you want to buy and what you can afford. We got our financing from a Credit Union with a cap of how much we could afford. Keep that in your back pocket. If the dealer has a better offer in financing... look at it, and see if the terms are up your alley... if not... use the draft from the bank.

And when negotiating... tell them to give you the OUT THE DOOR price and itemize it so that you know where your money is being spent.

But most importantly, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH before walking on to any lot, or you'll be tempted to take the first offer they give you.

    Hope this helps!
  • dazzlingddazzlingd Member Posts: 4
    Which dealership was this from?

The main differences I can tell between Touring and EXL/RES/NAV come down to:
    - Power tailgate
    - Electric pedal adjust
    - Fuel Computer
    - Compass
    - 17" wheels
    - Front fog lights
    - Parking sensors
    - Memory seats
    - Upgraded sound system
    - Bluetooth
    - PAX option
    - Black leather option

I have an 05 Odyssey EX (current model) and the only things I would value from that list is the compass and computer, which I believe should be standard on all Odysseys.

Looking at an 07 EX-L - new, 20 miles on it.

Dealer offered 25,700 - no finance special. Edmunds TMV would suggest this is good. Can I do better? Would I do better to get an 08 and 2.9 financing?
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Do I try to negotiate for the dealer to cut the price more or throw in something else, or should I just take this great deal and say thanks? Looks like you have done a good job getting some decent numbers (compared to what I saw locally). Whether or not $30K & $34K end up being good targets 6 months from now is anyones guess. Seems like there are so many varibles that are unknown to the consumer. What if Honda decided to increase the dealer holdback? They could then sell for $10K under MSRP (for example) and still make money. They could also offer a customer incentive, in addition to the current dealer incentive. Currently there is none, aside from the low financing rates. Seems to me if you're not in a hurry for the vehicle, you could continue to work the numbers until dealers flat out say "No". I know I reached that point with several...but not all, of my local dealers! ;)
  • hondafan78hondafan78 Member Posts: 8
That was from Joliet but Orland, Aurora & Lisle were all close. Doc fee was $150 w/ them all. (7% tax at 2 and 7.25 at the other 2). All have Nimbus gray on the lot. I have an '02 EX-L w/ DVD that I got from Joliet and I liked them back then.

I'd like the power tailgate, bluetooth and upgraded sound system--I just don't know if I'd like it enough to pay that much more for it.

The dealers being so quick to offer a $30K price on the EX-L + RES/DVD makes me wonder what else I should ask for. I haven't been in the car market for a while so I'm wondering if Honda would be likely to increase their rebate as the economy worsens or if dealers would be willing to give up some of their holdback.
  • hondafan78hondafan78 Member Posts: 8
Good point on the what ifs. I'm going on a road trip at the end of May so it'd be nice to have a new van for that. When I bought my '02 EX-L I was lucky to get it for MSRP w/o a bunch of dealer add ons so I suppose I should be happy with paying essentially the same thing for a nicer van 6 years later. I guess I'm just wondering how much more wiggle room the dealer has.
  • derricksonderrickson Member Posts: 131
Yup...lucky for you, the world is quite different than it was 6 years ago! Your Touring figure looks really good (in my opinion). Don't know how sweeter the deal could get, but one never knows... Your price is like $7K under msrp, and basically works out to be the dealer giving up about 3.25% of their holdback plus their incentive. I'm actually quite jealous! ;) Although our dealer did make us a stellar offer on our trade & "threw in" several hundred worth of goodies, so I suppose we're close to your figures. Please post when you pull the trigger!
  • hondafan78hondafan78 Member Posts: 8
I will! Thanks for the insight. Going to test drive the Touring again now and perhaps make a decision although not buying anything tonight with 3 kids in tow. Would you wait and see if incentives change in May? I can't imagine the $2K going away in this economy so it doesn't seem like much of a risk, does it?
  • batavia02batavia02 Member Posts: 38
We are in the market for, a exl or touring ,there are some good prices out there, does any body think the prices will go lower in may or even june, or have the prices bottomed out.would appreciate any thoughts.
