Hogan773, you're right it's a 9 in. screen. DVD will = blue ray on a 9 in. screen. (but I can't put my old 8 tracks in my van). I'm joking!!

I think my hesitance for the DVD player is primarily because my past experiences with auto stereo in general. I have owned a toyota tacoma for 10 years and I can't remember when the radio/cd worked right, and my wifes 2004 nissan radio doesn't work at all. Before I got my toyota, my ford f150 radio went out soon after i bought it. Car audio seems, in my opinion, to be the first thing to go south.

Maybe just bad experiences, but I'm REALLY reluctant to throw down cash for more electronics in a car. Another reason for no NAV, I have NAV on my cell phone. When my phone contract's up in 2 yrs, I'll get a new phone. I want this van for 10 years.

Cheers Hogan & all and thank you for your help with purchasing!

Would you mind sharing who you spoke with at the Corona dealership? I'm also looking to get an EX-L w RES. Maybe we can get it down to $30,000 plus fees like some of the other people on this forum.

seems about right for the state I am in.

Thx Tang, for explaining the Total, key here is the $28,200 includes the rebate 1250 - which i missed.
  • hogan773hogan773 Member Posts: 255
Anyone else hear of an extra $500 rebate in addition to the 1250?

Its probably too late for me, but since my car is 3 days old I'd still be interested in knowing......
  • swampy1613swampy1613 Member Posts: 9
Hogan, I don't think the $500 is anything official, but I do think this was "the missing link" that caused the price to drop from the $30,800 range to the $30,000 range that we got for the EX-L RES over the weekend. Just my thought, and this may be why some dealers still seem to be quoting so high for the car, ie not passing it along in the deal.
  • dev_pdev_p Member Posts: 22
    Shri99,

Your quote for EX ( no RES) for $25,960 (including destination) looks great to me.

I tried same at my local dealer in NJ - I was told that its not possible.
I was told its much less than invoice for EX which is 27,195.(includes 710 destination).

Does your Quote for Cash purchase or does it had special Honda financing of 2.9% 60 month?
  • shri99shri99 Member Posts: 9
    It's cash purchase.

    $27,210.00 (Including Destination charges)
After $1250.00 rebate it's $25960.00 (Which is not the correct way of applying $1250 rebate. It should be applied to your final TOTAL)
  • hogan773hogan773 Member Posts: 255
Hmmmm. The F&I guy answered my question (I THINK HONESTLY) that they were losing appx $400 on the new car, taking into account invoice plus holdbacks. I saw it on his screen. Now I am always a little suspicious but if the $500 was somehow bailing them out, it wasn't showing on their F&I inventory screen. They will make it up on my trade in most likely, plus there is a general incentive for them to keep selling cars cause they probably get some overall volume benefits that might help them too, and aren't shown as attached to any specific car....
  • dbtdbt Member Posts: 298
There's something called "spiffs" which are volume bonuses (normally only available at a particular threshold) that are rarely reported, and can go beyond the "dealer incentives" reported on Edmunds etc. They may also be locality specific, i.e. available in Chicagoland, but not in Minnesota.

OTD price ($34, 938) + fog lights ($531 + all weather mats ($220) = $35,689. I think I'm doing very good. Let me you what you think. I lived in Virginia Beach, VA

Ktd, would you mind share the purchasing price before TTL. Thanks.
  • odysseybaodysseyba Member Posts: 14
Whats the price before TTL. I am looking for the same exact trim and the best I have with 1.9% is $33K even here in bay area. None of them seem to be willing to go below that. Can you share your price before TTL and with or without the financing!
  • ktdktd Member Posts: 5
    edited February 2010
Odysseyba, I paid $282 more than your quoted before TTL.

    van $33,282 + tax $1098 + licence plate $59 + processing fee $499 = $34938.

I think the invoice was $34404. So it was $1122 below invoice.

    Hope this help.
  • odysseybaodysseyba Member Posts: 14
And I am assuming this is WITH 1.9% financing. I have 2 offers for 33K on the table, third one said he can beat 33K and will get back to me today and fourth one is dangling a cash only deal, so I offered him $33K - $1250 Cash, he is yet to get back to me. I plan on picking up the car today. Based on your experience it seems like the deal I am getting is not bad.
  • hogan773hogan773 Member Posts: 255
For any future posters on price - note that it is easiest to post the price of the CAR only, and specify whether it includes or doesnt the 710 delivery fee. You're sort of on your own with taxes, title and license and as long as you aren't getting screwed with some extra dealer fee or something, then just saying "Hey I have an OTD price of 33,257.99 is that a good price?" is hard for anyone to compare apples to apples.
  • pokes1pokes1 Member Posts: 10
There's also always some confusion in this thread as to whether the final price includes the $1250 rebate or if the buyer opted for the 1.9%/2.9%.

We're still waiting on our van. This dealer is supposed to be getting our van on a dealer-to-dealer trade. Haven't seen it yet 2 days after an agreement was made. Now we are a the point where we are supposedly not getting the color we wanted.

Really, our only 'rush' to get the van is the current marketing offer from Honda. We decided we wanted the EX-L last year, but just waiting to build up some cash --or, in this case, a great financing rate.

I'm beginning to wonder about the effect that the cash back/or low interest marketing on the Odyssey has on dealer inventory. Cash for clunkers wiped a lot of lots clean. Could the same trend occur where rare rebates/financing deals are suddenly offered? Any thoughts? It seems like it would effect inventory but at the same time one would not expect to find great prices if in fact inventories begin to deplete.
  • dev_pdev_p Member Posts: 22
    Pokes,

Why would you agree for other color?

More general Q is If dealers doesnot have the color available and has agreed to deliver say a week or so What happens if thats promis is n ot fullfilled.

Does customer can walkout / or is compensated in any way?
  • hogan773hogan773 Member Posts: 255
Yeah really - unless you happened to be indifferent to color, DON'T accept a second choice. I have trouble believing that this 1250 cash back has "wiped clean" all the Odysseys out on dealer lots.......

What does your dealer say when you ask them? (Did you ask them or are you just waiting?) Did you put down a deposit or is this just a gentlemen's agreement? Why don't you call EVERY dealer in your area and first ask if they have the color and model you want. Once you know who really has it, you could tell your current dealer that if they don't get you the car in the next [3] days that you're taking your offer to the dealers who REALLY DO have the car in stock.

Do what you will, but if it were me, and I buy a new car once every 5 years and 30K is not chump change, I'm not gonna get a second-choice color just because a dealer is changing the rules on me. I'd personally rather pay an extra $250 to get the color I really wanted (NOT to the current dealer mind you, but if you had to go elsewhere), but I don't think you'll ultimately have to pay any more...if your dealer senses you're walking he probably will hustle more

No offense to some of the posters on here but I'm always amazed how dealers can pull this cr@p - somehow people become pansies when dealing with the salesmen, as if the salesman is doing them a great favor by ALLOWING them to buy the car.
  • ttwebttweb Member Posts: 17
Is this $1250 rebate a super secret rebate because I cannot seem to find any mention of it anywhere. I only see the financing offer on the various car websites. Looking at the possible purchase of a 2010 Touring model.
    Thanks,
    Tom
  • gapwagapwa Member Posts: 2
I too am looking to buy a 2010 Touring model (in Seattle, WA). Right now the best quote I have received is $37,988 (with destination charge). TTL are extra of course and this is with the 2.9% financing.

I just started the process yesterday and I am still waiting to hear back from a few other dealerships in the area. The Edmund's TMV price is $37,065, but I am not sure if that includes the $1250 incentive (which I can't get due to taking the financing deal).

    So good price?
  • pokes1pokes1 Member Posts: 10
Good question, we were wondering the same thing. The alternate color choice is what we got delivered on the dealer-to-dealer trade, and we're actually very happy with it!!
  • pokes1pokes1 Member Posts: 10
They said they would 'try' and get the 1st choice color, but never called back to update us on what color they could get once the knew. We didn't put down a deposit (we would have but by taking the 1.9% we felt better using the cash as a cushion for monthly payments). We did find a dealer out of town that could get the 1st color choice and offered to match our local price of $30,500 OTD (1.9%), but he wouldn't let it go without the pro package that it had, and wanted $400 for it.

By the time we closed the deal at our local dealer, the other guy called back and would take $200 for the pro pack, which would have been a great deal considering this van was our first choice color.

Oh, trust me Hogan, I gave our salesman an earful when getting the run around as to where our car was. Today we were ready to pull out of the deal had the van not showed up for delivery!

It is --I agree they act like they are doing you all the favors once they get you in. We were very annoyed by the attitude. For some reason we expected a courtesy call saying what color they could actually get (before they drive it over) and also an update as to when it would be here. We had to do all the calling to get the status. Oh, not that we aren't patient... we can wait, but when they say "well, the other dealer with the van we're getting for you won't talk to us. They're very busy today." It kind of sucks to be left hanging when you're about to spend a major amount of cash.

It's always a unique experience when you do something only once every 10 years. Not knowing what to expect!

Just got back from making our purchase (EX-L, $28,600 plus tax, tag, adm fee). From looking at the paperwork there was an additional $650 (on top of the $1250) in dealer cash--they had not shared that with me, just happened to see it in the file.

Our dealer ended up trying to throw in some extra figures on to the price (wheel locks and splash guards that were supposed to be included in the agreed upon price). Then we were in with the finance guy I noticed the total price was $250 more than we had just agreed on with the sales manager! They had to reprint the forms.

We were also able to negoitiate a better finance rate even though we took the dealer cash. We got 3.9% plus the cash back.
  • pokes1pokes1 Member Posts: 10
Way to go kp17! Sweet deal ;)
  • hogan773hogan773 Member Posts: 255
The dealers do this to themselves by perpetuating these shyster tactics. What an odd way to buy something - with such bad information and in a system where consumers have their guard up and are basically frightened that their wallets are about to be picked if they aren't super careful at every turn. Its really sad actually.

Looking for an opinion. Ok so we definiteley need a minivan. Pretty heart set on a Honda. Should I buy the basic LX model or EX.

Heres my thinking, I know I can't afford the high end exl and touring. But is the EX worth the extra money.

I can get the LX for 23457.00 The EX is over 26000. without RES with RES cost is almost 28,000.

I can't see paying that much extra for a DVD player and some extras. Can someone tell me otherwise why someone would pay the extra cash for these features. I can go with an after market DVD player.

Or should I expect to pay less all together to what I quoted?
  • icristi58icristi58 Member Posts: 6
looks close to my 2010 touring offer, 36687.60 which includes the rebate and destination charge, no financing:
    negociated price 36687.60
    Documentary fee 250
    Tax 7.75% 2826.66
    license plates 88
total otd 39888.26 with dealer installing complimentary splash-guards.
I live in the midwest and had to order the color combination we want. I think I could have negotiated few hundred dollars less.
  • windowshoppingwindowshopping Member Posts: 2
Sounds like you got a great deal, kp17. We've been looking at an EX-L (no nav, no res) and have not been able to get even close to this. Best quote so far is $29,500, which already includes the $1250 incentive. We've spoken with probably about 8 dealers and they're all in this same general area.

Are people getting better deals because they doing cash only - no trade? We have a trade (06 Accord) and they even gave us a crummy trade quote. Maybe it makes sense to try and sell privately instead of trade?

I can't figure out why our quotes are coming in so bad and the dealers won't budge. Guess business is good in my area?
  • kim43kim43 Member Posts: 5
Thanks all for your feedback - given the incentive (area dealers tell me it's $1000 if you aren't financing through them), I'm now down to 26,808 - with TTL the OTD is 28,633. No one is moving below that right now - I've emailed/called 5 dealers and they are all resting at this - driving me nuts! They all know we are ready to buy too. Will post our purchase price whenever we do make a deal - any additional comments would be great - have to say this forum has really helped!

Odysseyba, seems like you have a great deal! The invoice for the NAV is $1,988. I presume your deal doesn't include the incentive since you're taking the 1.9% financing. Your deal is equivalent to a EX-L w/ RES for $29,762 when most are getting around $30,100.

    w/ RES & NAV: $33,000
    minus NAV: - $ 1,988
    minus incentive: - $ 1,250
    EXL w/ RES: $29,762

Am I missing anything? I am also looking to buy in the Bay Area. Can you give me the names of the dealers offering you 33k? Thanks!
  • odysseybaodysseyba Member Posts: 14
Fremont Autowest. They have the largest inventory on the lot. Everybody else will get it from somewhere, they dont have them on the lot. Wife ended up picking Ocean mist, what color are you looking for? If you are looking for EX-L w NAV/RES, talk to Don in the internet deptt. there. Good guy, but not much say. So you make sure remind him to go check with his sales manager any offers that he extends you.
So I bought my car last night and here is what I got:
EX-L w NAV/RES : $33,500. with 1.9% financing. They backed out at the last moment for 33K with 1.9%. They said that they can give me 4.99% with 33K but I will have to pay 500 more if I want 1.9%.I have excellent credit (800+). they also gave me $32,500 Cash offer, but when I ran the numbers, it was not worth paying cash. So I took $33,500 with 1.9%
    They tacked on:
Honda Care for 8 yrs/120K/0 deductible for $1995
    5 yrs/60K oil change $345
7 yrs leather and exterior paint protection $400
    GAP - 3 yrs - $400.
I signed up for those with the clause that I can cancel within 60 days and get all my money back. Now I am researching HC and realizing that I paid 1K more, ppl are getting that for 1K but I am not sure if we can do that in CA
I dont think I will keep GAP
5 yrs/60K oil change, I will probably keep that. I might save a little if I do it myself, but then a little bit here saves me from the hassle of searching for coupons and other deals. I know its paid for, for 5 yrs.
I am not sure about leather and paint protection. I have 2 kids 5 yrs and 1 yr. So it might be worth it. Dont know!
So bottom line after all of this is
    33,500 + TTL ( ~3700) + 1995 + 400 + 400 + 345 = $40,300 OTD.
Financing cost $1300 over 3 yrs
    So net cost - ~42K
Now, this was a shocker for me because I was expecting OTD less than 40K if I negotiated 33K but thats what I ended up paying. I might cancel a couple of things from here on.
So yeah talk to Autowest in Fremont and Fairfield Honda. Dont talk to Capitol or Larry Hopkins on El Camino. Arrogant SOBs.

I was able to work 2 really good deals on EX-Ls but could not get the same on EX-L with RES. I live in North Carolina, bought from Priority Honda in Huntersville but really would not recommend them based on the experience I had when I went in to purchase (after handling all negotiating via e-mail). Flow Honda in Winston was only $150 off in price but didn't have my first color choice.

Don't know that I will get anywhere but plan on writing the dealership owner with the complaints I have over the process (our internet salesman wasn't there when I came in for a scheduled appt to buy the car, they tried not to give me the splash guards and wheel locks that the sales guy agreed to, there was a mysterious extra $200 on the finance paperwork added to the salesprice that I caught before signing).
  • ktdktd Member Posts: 5
Kp17, So how much did you pay for your EX-L? I just bought a EXL R & N from Priority Honda in Chesapeake, VA for $33, 297 before TTL.
  • yhk81yhk81 Member Posts: 5
Just bought a 2010 Odyssey EX (w/out RES)...finally! final price was $26350 and OTD was $28412. Managed to get the dealer to include the all-season mats. Hope this helps to anyone who is interested in getting the EX.
  • benvenuto77benvenuto77 Member Posts: 2
Ok So I went to a few dealers in the Philadelphia area. Piazza, Burns, and Sussmen

    One dealer quotes 26756.00
    Another quotes 25975.00
And Finally another quotes 26576.00 with All season matts and seat covers.

I think in a few days these dealers will drop it even lower. Febuary Sales have been nothing and they need to move inventory. All three dealers have the color we want...I will post the final price when I buy.

The big difference on LX versus EX are the power doors. If you have young kids (who cannot open those doors / would be difficult) or even more so - carrying around an infant in carrier, most say that the power doors are one of the best features out there. You also pick up some other nice things (steering wheel controls for the radio are very nice to me). On the other hand, LX is well equipped also. But you have to make that call.

In the end, don't make a choice you will regret, and end up having to sell / trade soon, which will end up costing you more than paying up front.

Been trying to buy an EXL with RES. Tried techniques mentioned on here and can't seem to get a dealership to bite in Western PA. Got a price of $33,600 from the first dealership, $31,400 from the second , but he said it included the $1250 and if I wanted to finance it would be $32,650. Third one said $31,567 but that includes the $1250. I'm not getting close to $30,200 or so with financing. The question I have is where did others get their vans from at $30,200 or so? I would drive to save the xtra $2000.

Do you think they'll have better prices in a month or two? We can wait until April to buy either an EX or EX-L. Thanks!

Should we expect better price if we pay in cash?
  • hogan773hogan773 Member Posts: 255
Mine was in Chicago but I paid cash. I had 3 different dealers each willing to go between 30,100 and 30,250. If you're financing, you'd probably need to add $1250 to those prices if you're trying to use Honda special rates.

Have you actually tried telling a dealer that you will buy today at $XXX price, otherwise you'll likely be focusing your efforts on other dealers that are more competitive? Sometimes you need to really show them you're ready to buy. Maybe go in person and just tell them that you're willing to buy today at $[31,500].....worst they can say is No, and then you can just say "too bad, but I think I'll keep looking around as I know several people who have bought the car for this price in the past 2 weeks" (and no, we're not lying). Its not like the dealer is not going to allow you to buy from them in the future if you walk in and walk out if they don't hit the price.

Also watch your trade in. For me, I has 3 dealers all withing 100 bucks or so on the new car, but then I realized I could easily lose a LOT more on my trade in, so I got 2 quotes on the trade in from 2 dealers. Note that on BOTH quotes, the initial "highest they could go" was $10k on one and $10.5K on another, but when pushed, BOTH went up by $2000 on the trades. I bought from the guy who gave the higher number on the trade (incidentally he was also the lowest on the new car price) but that made a $500 difference between the 2 just on the trade......

So I am looking at $28,805 + title, taxes, tags for 2010 EX-L. Good? It's $5310 of MSRP. Is it work another $1800 for RES? Or is aftermarket ok (i.e. Best Buy)

    Thanks!
  • swampy1613swampy1613 Member Posts: 9
As Hogan pointed out, I also bought the EX-L RES over President's Day weekend in the Boston area for $30,000. I paid cash as well without the special Honda financing. I however, did not have a trade in, so dealer sold me the car without having any other way to make additional profit.

At the end of January, the best quote I had gotten was for $32,000. Even if the low $30,000s is no longer attainable, you should be able to get somewhere in the $30,750 range considering the $1250 cash back. Someone here mentioned an additional $650 cash back that may be (might have been) available bringing the final down to what Hogan and I paid.

What you may want to do is go the Honda website and select "find dealer". You can use the zip code 01803 for Burlington and select a few dealerships like Herb Chambers, Boch, Prime, Commonwealth, etc. Tell them that you are going to buy the car soon and need a quote to include base price including destination, and associated fees. Hogan and I found that we got competitive quotes right away using this method. If you find that the quotes are good, you can show them to your local dealer and try to get a match or better. Or, you can drive up as you suggested. I believe Boch will deliver to anywhere in New England. As we get close to the end of the month you should be able to get the car for around $30,500 or even better.
