I think my hesitance for the DVD player is primarily because my past experiences with auto stereo in general. I have owned a toyota tacoma for 10 years and I can't remember when the radio/cd worked right, and my wifes 2004 nissan radio doesn't work at all. Before I got my toyota, my ford f150 radio went out soon after i bought it. Car audio seems, in my opinion, to be the first thing to go south.
Maybe just bad experiences, but I'm REALLY reluctant to throw down cash for more electronics in a car. Another reason for no NAV, I have NAV on my cell phone. When my phone contract's up in 2 yrs, I'll get a new phone. I want this van for 10 years.
Cheers Hogan & all and thank you for your help with purchasing!
Its probably too late for me, but since my car is 3 days old I'd still be interested in knowing......
Your quote for EX ( no RES) for $25,960 (including destination) looks great to me.
I tried same at my local dealer in NJ - I was told that its not possible.
I was told its much less than invoice for EX which is 27,195.(includes 710 destination).
Does your Quote for Cash purchase or does it had special Honda financing of 2.9% 60 month?
$27,210.00 (Including Destination charges)
After $1250.00 rebate it's $25960.00 (Which is not the correct way of applying $1250 rebate. It should be applied to your final TOTAL)
van $33,282 + tax $1098 + licence plate $59 + processing fee $499 = $34938.
I think the invoice was $34404. So it was $1122 below invoice.
Hope this help.
Really, our only 'rush' to get the van is the current marketing offer from Honda. We decided we wanted the EX-L last year, but just waiting to build up some cash --or, in this case, a great financing rate.
I'm beginning to wonder about the effect that the cash back/or low interest marketing on the Odyssey has on dealer inventory. Cash for clunkers wiped a lot of lots clean. Could the same trend occur where rare rebates/financing deals are suddenly offered? Any thoughts? It seems like it would effect inventory but at the same time one would not expect to find great prices if in fact inventories begin to deplete.
Why would you agree for other color?
More general Q is If dealers doesnot have the color available and has agreed to deliver say a week or so What happens if thats promis is n ot fullfilled.
Does customer can walkout / or is compensated in any way?
What does your dealer say when you ask them? (Did you ask them or are you just waiting?) Did you put down a deposit or is this just a gentlemen's agreement? Why don't you call EVERY dealer in your area and first ask if they have the color and model you want. Once you know who really has it, you could tell your current dealer that if they don't get you the car in the next [3] days that you're taking your offer to the dealers who REALLY DO have the car in stock.
Do what you will, but if it were me, and I buy a new car once every 5 years and 30K is not chump change, I'm not gonna get a second-choice color just because a dealer is changing the rules on me. I'd personally rather pay an extra $250 to get the color I really wanted (NOT to the current dealer mind you, but if you had to go elsewhere), but I don't think you'll ultimately have to pay any more...if your dealer senses you're walking he probably will hustle more
No offense to some of the posters on here but I'm always amazed how dealers can pull this cr@p - somehow people become pansies when dealing with the salesmen, as if the salesman is doing them a great favor by ALLOWING them to buy the car.
Thanks,
Tom
I just started the process yesterday and I am still waiting to hear back from a few other dealerships in the area. The Edmund's TMV price is $37,065, but I am not sure if that includes the $1250 incentive (which I can't get due to taking the financing deal).
So good price?
By the time we closed the deal at our local dealer, the other guy called back and would take $200 for the pro pack, which would have been a great deal considering this van was our first choice color.
Oh, trust me Hogan, I gave our salesman an earful when getting the run around as to where our car was. Today we were ready to pull out of the deal had the van not showed up for delivery!
It is --I agree they act like they are doing you all the favors once they get you in. We were very annoyed by the attitude. For some reason we expected a courtesy call saying what color they could actually get (before they drive it over) and also an update as to when it would be here. We had to do all the calling to get the status. Oh, not that we aren't patient... we can wait, but when they say "well, the other dealer with the van we're getting for you won't talk to us. They're very busy today." It kind of sucks to be left hanging when you're about to spend a major amount of cash.
It's always a unique experience when you do something only once every 10 years. Not knowing what to expect!
Our dealer ended up trying to throw in some extra figures on to the price (wheel locks and splash guards that were supposed to be included in the agreed upon price). Then we were in with the finance guy I noticed the total price was $250 more than we had just agreed on with the sales manager! They had to reprint the forms.
We were also able to negoitiate a better finance rate even though we took the dealer cash. We got 3.9% plus the cash back.
Heres my thinking, I know I can't afford the high end exl and touring. But is the EX worth the extra money.
I can get the LX for 23457.00 The EX is over 26000. without RES with RES cost is almost 28,000.
I can't see paying that much extra for a DVD player and some extras. Can someone tell me otherwise why someone would pay the extra cash for these features. I can go with an after market DVD player.
Or should I expect to pay less all together to what I quoted?
negociated price 36687.60
Documentary fee 250
Tax 7.75% 2826.66
license plates 88
total otd 39888.26 with dealer installing complimentary splash-guards.
I live in the midwest and had to order the color combination we want. I think I could have negotiated few hundred dollars less.
Are people getting better deals because they doing cash only - no trade? We have a trade (06 Accord) and they even gave us a crummy trade quote. Maybe it makes sense to try and sell privately instead of trade?
I can't figure out why our quotes are coming in so bad and the dealers won't budge. Guess business is good in my area?
w/ RES & NAV: $33,000
minus NAV: - $ 1,988
minus incentive: - $ 1,250
EXL w/ RES: $29,762
Am I missing anything? I am also looking to buy in the Bay Area. Can you give me the names of the dealers offering you 33k? Thanks!
So I bought my car last night and here is what I got:
EX-L w NAV/RES : $33,500. with 1.9% financing. They backed out at the last moment for 33K with 1.9%. They said that they can give me 4.99% with 33K but I will have to pay 500 more if I want 1.9%.I have excellent credit (800+). they also gave me $32,500 Cash offer, but when I ran the numbers, it was not worth paying cash. So I took $33,500 with 1.9%
They tacked on:
Honda Care for 8 yrs/120K/0 deductible for $1995
5 yrs/60K oil change $345
7 yrs leather and exterior paint protection $400
GAP - 3 yrs - $400.
I signed up for those with the clause that I can cancel within 60 days and get all my money back. Now I am researching HC and realizing that I paid 1K more, ppl are getting that for 1K but I am not sure if we can do that in CA
I dont think I will keep GAP
5 yrs/60K oil change, I will probably keep that. I might save a little if I do it myself, but then a little bit here saves me from the hassle of searching for coupons and other deals. I know its paid for, for 5 yrs.
I am not sure about leather and paint protection. I have 2 kids 5 yrs and 1 yr. So it might be worth it. Dont know!
So bottom line after all of this is
33,500 + TTL ( ~3700) + 1995 + 400 + 400 + 345 = $40,300 OTD.
Financing cost $1300 over 3 yrs
So net cost - ~42K
Now, this was a shocker for me because I was expecting OTD less than 40K if I negotiated 33K but thats what I ended up paying. I might cancel a couple of things from here on.
So yeah talk to Autowest in Fremont and Fairfield Honda. Dont talk to Capitol or Larry Hopkins on El Camino. Arrogant SOBs.
Don't know that I will get anywhere but plan on writing the dealership owner with the complaints I have over the process (our internet salesman wasn't there when I came in for a scheduled appt to buy the car, they tried not to give me the splash guards and wheel locks that the sales guy agreed to, there was a mysterious extra $200 on the finance paperwork added to the salesprice that I caught before signing).
One dealer quotes 26756.00
Another quotes 25975.00
And Finally another quotes 26576.00 with All season matts and seat covers.
I think in a few days these dealers will drop it even lower. Febuary Sales have been nothing and they need to move inventory. All three dealers have the color we want...I will post the final price when I buy.
Best of luck!
In the end, don't make a choice you will regret, and end up having to sell / trade soon, which will end up costing you more than paying up front.
Is it Cash offer or is it with.9%/2.9% financing?
Have you actually tried telling a dealer that you will buy today at $XXX price, otherwise you'll likely be focusing your efforts on other dealers that are more competitive? Sometimes you need to really show them you're ready to buy. Maybe go in person and just tell them that you're willing to buy today at $[31,500].....worst they can say is No, and then you can just say "too bad, but I think I'll keep looking around as I know several people who have bought the car for this price in the past 2 weeks" (and no, we're not lying). Its not like the dealer is not going to allow you to buy from them in the future if you walk in and walk out if they don't hit the price.
Also watch your trade in. For me, I has 3 dealers all withing 100 bucks or so on the new car, but then I realized I could easily lose a LOT more on my trade in, so I got 2 quotes on the trade in from 2 dealers. Note that on BOTH quotes, the initial "highest they could go" was $10k on one and $10.5K on another, but when pushed, BOTH went up by $2000 on the trades. I bought from the guy who gave the higher number on the trade (incidentally he was also the lowest on the new car price) but that made a $500 difference between the 2 just on the trade......
Thanks!
At the end of January, the best quote I had gotten was for $32,000. Even if the low $30,000s is no longer attainable, you should be able to get somewhere in the $30,750 range considering the $1250 cash back. Someone here mentioned an additional $650 cash back that may be (might have been) available bringing the final down to what Hogan and I paid.
What you may want to do is go the Honda website and select "find dealer". You can use the zip code 01803 for Burlington and select a few dealerships like Herb Chambers, Boch, Prime, Commonwealth, etc. Tell them that you are going to buy the car soon and need a quote to include base price including destination, and associated fees. Hogan and I found that we got competitive quotes right away using this method. If you find that the quotes are good, you can show them to your local dealer and try to get a match or better. Or, you can drive up as you suggested. I believe Boch will deliver to anywhere in New England. As we get close to the end of the month you should be able to get the car for around $30,500 or even better.
