Just purchased a 2012 EX-L with RES from Matt Castrucci's Honday dealership in Dayton Mall.

Finalized the deal through email with Internet Sales Specialist (K....), agreed on color, price, what to include, etc. Had to wait few days to get the color requested (Black/Trussel) and got the minivan fresh out of the factory (4 days before the promissed date). Walked into the dealership on Sunday, signed all the paperwork and drove it home in less than 1 1/2 hrs.

Great experience, did not push me to get any additional stuff, just explained to me what is available and never insisted me for buying anything extra. Mr. K was there throughout the entire process, took plenty of time to go over the vehicle, and I highly recommend him for anyone interested in buying a vehicle.

    Price including destination: $33,214
Doc Fee and Tags ~ $269
    Ohio Tax (6.5%) ~ $2176
    0.9% APR for 36 months.

Appreciate the information given through all the previous postings and this forum has been very helpful in finalizing my deal.

    Good luck!

What was name of dealer and in which City ...quoted you $34,007 ? Was it a brand new 2012?

did that include destination or shipping ? Also, did you have to pay and add on sticker fees for miscellaneous add-on options such as wheel locks, cargo net or pinstripe----OR----was that included in the price of $34,007 ? How much was the "document" fee ?

I plan to pull the trigger this week, hopefully and would really like to know so I can contact them.

    Thanks,

    Kathy

After reading you all post on prices paid. I don't think I will ever buy another Odyssey. I was only looking because the dealer replace a transmission at 50k and messed up something they was not able to fix for over a year. Over 10 trips to get this issue fixed.
American Honda stance was live with the noise or buy another car. This is a noise that my 70+ year old parents can hear while we are driving the van.
Dealer said oh yeah we will give you a break on the new vehicle. their price quote was
    33,500 for base EX-L.

Sure, Odyssey is a nice looking van. But I will not buy it again.
Being fooled one time is shame on Honda. I will not be fooled twice to be shame on me.

Good Luck to you all who is looking for an Honda Odyssey. I hope you will not have to deal with American Honda nor its irresponsible dealers as I have.

We are going to buy a 2012 EX-L with NAV and I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with good pricing in San Diego, Orange County or LA. I got a phone quote for $35,500 + TTL. I was hoping to get closer to 34.5K. I'm not really in the mood to go arm wrestle with the sales people so I would love to leverage anyone else's experience.

    Thanks!

Before buying my 2012 Odyssey EX-L (first new car ever), I scoured Edmunds advice and the forums for help. The information here gave me confidence that I could get a good deal, but I always thought "there's no way I'm buying a 2012 car (especially a popular vehicle like the Odyssey) for much less than the True Market Value. But I did, so I wanted to share my results.

Well I took the advice and solicited (using Edmunds, cars.com, truecar.com etc.) about a dozen local dealerships over the internet saying I was a serious buyer and I would be asking multiple dealerships for their best OTD pricing. After a lot of back and forth emails (not a single phone discussion..although I received 25+ voice messages as expected), I was amazed at some of the pricing. Some "best pricing" were only $500 under MSRP. But the lowest one was $200 under invoice! I was ecstatic. I emailed to confirm and they gave me a down to the dollar OTD price. I had received another email from a different dealership saying they'd beat any offer by$ 100-300. So I went back to dealer A (I liked his no games upfront price) and asked to come down $200. After some negotiations he did. I went in 2 days later. I spent no more than one hour at the dealership. What a great experience.

I ended up paying $32,000 (including destination) plus 6% PA sales tax plus TTL of $217 (no bogus ad fees etc. either) for a 2012 EX-L. $400 UNDER INVOICE. I was AMAZED.

I just wanted to say thanks to Edmunds and to all you posters here that gave me the idea and confidence that an amazingly deal could be found! :)

I was disappointed to read that the 2011-2012 Honda Odyssey is rated as a NOT RECOMMENDED

Minivan by the latest issue of Consumer Reports Magazine -- Dec. 2011 Issue. I was close to

making a deal on the 2012 model. The ONLY minivan that is recommended is the Toyota Sienna.

Now What? Do I start my research all-over from the beginning?

I'm looking at the mag now. Basically, they rated 7 different SUVs (Odyssey, Quest, Sedona, Town & Country, and 3 Siennas..FWD, AWD, 4 cylinder). Only the Sienna XLE FWD was recommended. The predicted reliability for the Odyssey is "Fair" and CR simply never recommends anything with Fair or lower.

Keep in mind that could be based on only 1 year of data so the sample size may be small. Per CR, "if a model was new or redesigned in the last year..we might use data from only one model year". So it's not like they think it's going to tip over or blow up in mid drive based on years worth of complaints.

If it's worth anything, CR is my bible, yet this didn't sway me from buying a 2012 Odyssey last week. I guess time will tell if I shouldn't have. : )

The way I saw it is, either CR got pickier with their reliability scores, or all recent minivans are less reliable than in the past, because only 1 out of 7 is recommended. To each their own.

    Hope that helps.

It's kind of funny reading the web version of CR. Their comments start off "The Odyssey tops our minivan ratings, comfortably outscoring the Toyota Sienna", but ends with "First year reliability of the redesign has been below average".

Their reliability ratings for the 2011 Odyssey shows everything perfect (red circles) except for electrical which shows an empty circle (average). Extrapolating from the comments in these forums, the most complained about thing is the battery light staying on in the 2011's. I'll bet that that is the 'electrical problem' being referred to by CR (the problem is annoying, but doesn't require a fix if you can stand the battery light staying on).

I read that the electronics have been upgraded in the 2012's to remedy the light issue, so I would buy a 2012 with confidence that it will be no worse than, say, a 2006 which is the 2nd year of a re-design also.
  • dreyfus1dreyfus1 Member Posts: 43
The new year models are usually rated excellent. The 2011 Odyssey gets fair on two points namely Body Hardware and Power Equipment and good on three points Electrical, Squeaks/rattles and Audio. 2007 and 2008 are also not as good as one would hope.

My take on it is that the Odyssey is still a good minivan I particularly like the 2005-2010 generation for its routine and emergency handling. If the reviews are to be believed handling in the 2011 Odyssey does not differ much from the Sienna. I would overlook minor reliability variation if the handling had remained differentiated. It appears that the transmission and torque converter issues are a thing of the past and for that I am grateful.
  • gene00gene00 Member Posts: 115
I was surprised how spongy the ride was when I test drove the new odyssey. I had actually borrowed a friend's 2002 ody to take to the dealership, and it handled better than the new one, so does the 05-10 like you say. Wonder why they changed that, either to save money (most likely) or thought that soft Americans want a soft ride.

It's because the Odyssey is produced and engineered in United States. Since 1999, Honda Odyssey has always been Honda's least-reliable car model. Honda's USA quality (meaning Honda cars produced in North America) is DIFFERENT to Honda's Japan quality, despite how many people will tell you or deny this claim, and I have many valid proofs to back it up. To sum it up quick, Honda built LESS-reliable cars than Toyota in North America, but Honda built MORE-reliable cars than Toyota in Japan, based on the 40-year average trend since 1970 provided by Consumer Reports. When the Honda Odyssey was first released in 1995 through 1998 and manufactured in Japan, it scored the HIGHEST in reliability of all any cars and trucks from all makes, and it was very extreme and overrated at that time. NONE of the new cars made today for the past 13-16 years can match the high reliability rating score with the 1995-1998 Honda Odyssey. When the Odyssey transferred production to North America in 1999, reliability sank by more than 70%, and it still continues to be at that range today. The Odyssey used to be Honda's most reliable car model, and it's now the least reliable Honda model.

And to make it even more embarrassing, Honda Accord is now the LEAST reliable Japanese-brand family-sized sedan, according to Consumer Reports, when it used to be the MOST reliable, #1 Japanese sedan every year during the 1980s to the mid-1990s (10 straight consecutive years, 1983-1993). For the first time in 40 years of history, Mazda's family-sized sedan (Mazda 6) is rated more reliable than Honda Accord. How sad...

Something is very wrong at the Honda USA auto plants right now.

As all of you might have seen Honda has issued statement about Thailand floods impact.
According to Honda some of the US Honda vehicles (especially 2012 Honda CRV) are going to have impact due to this. But Honda doesn't exclusively say about Odyssey shortage due to this floods. Do you guys have any thought about Odyssey shortage due to this floods?

I have been pricing EX-L w/RES and getting prices around $34500 not including TT&L. After taking my wife to see the van she said she wanted one with navigation, and sticking a garmin on the dash was not an option for her.

Has anyone taken one of these new vans and come up with a good option of navigation without wires everywhere and the nav unit falling off every weeks?

The difference in the price does not seem worth it when you could buy a $300 nav unit to do the job.

    Thanks
  • quizzerquizzer Member Posts: 14
You can go for after market install of Alpine or Kenwood or Magellan in dash gps.
  • dreyfus1dreyfus1 Member Posts: 43
Take a look on Crutchfield online. They carry Pioneer AVIC and others. A good source of information.
  • lithnightslithnights Member Posts: 25
When you say "sticking a garmin on the dash was not an option for her. " Do you mean physically not an option or she just doesn't want it there? Just curious. I ask b/c we too went through this debate.. sure we'd love to have the built in nav, but for 2K!? We just couldn't justify it based on how often WE actually use it, which is rarely. Those that use/need it everyday (salesmen, delivery people) or take frequent trips out of the area, I could see the desire. But we know our way to and from playschool, work, grocery store etc.

So we suck it up and pull the $150 Garmin out of the console and stick it on the window when we NEED it, which isn't often.

We also figured that most smart phones are basically GPS units themselves so we use those as well.

2K is just tough... we couldn't pull the trigger.
  • vaodyexlvaodyexl Member Posts: 21
I agree with you. I don't know how the economics will work.
2K for Nav is too much when you get a decent GPS for $150.
In my case I will rather go for a DVD option compared to Nav.
Ofcourse you can get a IPOD for $300 but still kids can use DVD more often than me using a Nav.
  • davidk12davidk12 Member Posts: 28
Sorry this is probably the wrong forum for this question everyone.

lithnights: She does not want a garmin stuck to her dash (like she has now in her '03 Ody) Her argument is something around, if we spending so much money on a new van, why do we still want something stuck on the dash, falling off weekly, wires hanging all over the place. I honestly think Garmin does a better job of navigation than any in-car navigation. She would use it at least once a week, more of a "go home" use.

I see 2 things in the in-car nav I have in my sedan that are useful. 1) If you are listening to music, the music volume is reduced when navigation instractions are given. 2) I have the ability to send addresses from google maps on computer wirelessly to my car (VERY HANDY)

I would be concerned about replacing the whole head unit in the van, as you may loose other functions.

After doing some research, it looks like a popular gps mount is ProClip and if I could find a way to hide the wires and tap into 12 volt line on the left side of the steering wheel that would work.

The Nav option would cost me more like 4-5K as I would have to go from EX-L w/res to touring. The other option is to get EX-L w/NAV and give kids ipad's. Today we have the two screen dvd on the back of the headrests. Other than all the wires, the kids tend to abuse the screens with feet and getting in and out of van.

i have been trying to purchase a 2012 Odyssey EXL (no navi, no res) in the seattle area over the last few weeks. the best deal i have been able to get is invoice + $750.

so $33,500. before title, tax etc.

After I read the ratings by Consumer Reports Magazine -- Dec. 2011 Issue -- Honda Odyssey Not Recommended -- based on survey of owners of the 2011 Odyssey, I decided to seriously reconsider. Do I really want to buy a vehicle that I know is Not Recommended due to Reliability Issues? I have had vehicles in the past that seemed to spend more time in the repair shop than on the road -- Not to mention ruined vacations, trips, when the vehicle suddenly decided to break-down -- There is never a good time for a vehicle to break-down -- It always seems to happen on the way to the airport, to a job interview, important appointment, etc.

Seriously looking at the Toyota Sienna FWD -- The Only Recommended Minivan by Consumer Reports.

For loyal Odyssey buyers, Consumer Reports recommends Not-buying the very first model of a re-designed vehicle. The Last model year of a vehicle tends to be the most reliable one -- since the manufacturer has had time to fix any defects/flaws.

  • lithnightslithnights Member Posts: 25
To each their own. I too saw the CR mag and actually commented on it a few posts back here. As I said then, to me, the inside of the Odyssey was so much better than the Sienna, and the long term track record of Honda, and Odyssey is so good, that I'll risk a "not recommended" by a single magazine.

My guess is that the not recommended was based on the 2 recalls of the 2011. But it's not like those recalls were faulty brakes, faulty transmissions, or overheating engines... it was a power window issue and a windshield wiper issue. Not exactly show stoppers.. to me at least. Below is a summary of the recalls...

"Honda has announced that it is recalling approximately 2,800 2011 Honda Odyssey minivans over potentially faulty front side windows. Either the front driver or passenger window may come off its track and fall down into the door or cease to operate. In a worst-case scenario, the window may shatter and break, causing pieces of broken glass to fall into the passenger area. Honda will begin contacting owners on or about April 15, 2011. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicles to their dealership, where the window glass will be replaced free of charge.

This is actually the second recall for the 2011 Honda Odyssey. Two weeks ago, Honda recalled approximately 33,341 of the new minivans for a peculiar situation that could occur when the windshield wiper blade becomes frozen to the windshield in cold weather. If the windshield wipers are turned on in this situation, the internal wiper linkage could bend, causing the windshield wiper motor to become inoperative, and obviously hurting visibility in foul weather situations."

And keep in mind that is for the 2011s (first year of new design). I'll overlook those and take my chances with the 2012 I bought.
  • davidk12davidk12 Member Posts: 28
I am about to, but am very undecided between ex-l w/Res and garmin (as mounted as possible) and the touring.

So far the prices that I have are

    EX-L w/RES $33500, Dealer fee $349, TT&L

    Touring $37500, Dealer fee $349, TT&L

Still trying to justify $4000 for NAV. I did notice that zag.com has one dealer close to me that suddenly is getting close to these prices. 2 weeks ago no-one near me was close. I wonder if there is some special starting that we are not aware of.
