I've been talking with a salesperson at Jacobs about an 03 Odyssey EX-L with DVD. She said today is last day for $1500 off MSRP. I'm wondering if this is legit or does this dealer rope you in with an order then add extras when the time comes to pick up the car? The price I was quoted (before tx, fees) is 28,860. I'd like to order but it seems to good to be true. Also looking for Havasu Blue, heard Honda is not making it yet. Any updates?

    in the mouth.

Order the car, put down your deposit after you review the quote, and wait it out. don't fret too much. If you have the quote your done.

I was on a 90-day adventure for Havasu Blue and gave up. Went with a black ex-l.

    best of luck

I e-mailed them twice and got no response. Apparently, they don't want to deal with Southerners. *:o))

I hope they stand by their word (I have a signed purchase order for $1,500 off MSRP, although I know it's meaningless)...

    Keeping our fingers crossed.

Thanks for the feedback regarding Jacobs and just running with a "gift horse." I feel much better about having signed the deal last night. hschultz, we're in it together and we'll hope for the best! I had the sales person write on my order "no other options." Regarding the line for the $1500 off MSRP, I was told last night that they're placing their order on the 28th so there still may be time for other interested parties. I got this connection with Jacobs through carsdirect.com. My Jacobs sales person said this discount is only through the Internet -- customers who walk into the showroom would not receive it; they say they're trying to build their Internet business. My initial e-mail contact came from the following address: dmarek@jacobstwin.dealerspace.com, although I ended up working with another sales person from their special accounts dept (aka, Internet sales division). Maybe this will help you, mschafer, and anyone else interested in checking out this discount. The Honda dealer in my area tried to discount this deal from Jacobs, said I'd be stuck with additional costs at pick-up time, although he did say that if this deal is legit I should go for it. He gave me the story of another customer who had been burned by such a deal (no details, of course -- maybe just hot air) and who had taken his name off the wait list at this local dealer, then had to start all over. I think he was just trying a scare tactic, however, I did leave my refundable deposit and order intact for the time being and will cancel it (hopefully!) later. Will keep you posted!

I contacted the dealer in Denville NJ . He has only one white EX in stock for which he said he will negotiate when I mentioned 1500 off of MSRP. However I did not want one in white so I went with the dealer in Burlington, NJ (also closer to home since I live in Cherry Hill). Got a "In stock" Red EX with wheel locks, mud guards, center arm rest console, window etching and free life time NJ inspections (they are free anyway at state emission testing facilities) for $500 below MSRP. No other extraneous charges except for $49 documentation fee. Of course tax and title/reg was 1611 and 67(since I was transferring registration from another car) were additional. Total PRice paid inclusive of tax, title & registration 28,587.80 (26,860 + 1611.60 tax + 67.20 title/reg + 49 doc). Redrock Pearl EX.

    WOW!!
Thanks a lot. We e-mailed the Denville dealer, (and a bunch of others in the Tri-State), but did not hear back from them yet. I've set my husband on them, white is our second choice. Thanks Again!!

anl1, can you share info on where in NJ area one might go for such a great deal? Was end-of-month timing part of the successful dealmaking?

I'm out of the market for an Ody but still get these mailings ... at any rate, if anyone in NoCal is still interested, San Leandro Honda has an EX (Redrock) and EXL (Sagebrush) for MSRP. Ask for Jim Hurst -- the Internet Mgr.

Been a while since I've done business with them, maybe one or two since Sherri left.

I've been quoted what I think is a good price on a 2002 EX from a local dealer. The van has 26 miles and has never been titled. They are selling it as a certified car (bought at a Honda corporate auction).

    $27,000 (plus tax and tags)
4 year 48 K mile bumper to bumper warrenty
    7 year 100 K powertrain warrenty
    4.9% financing.

This would appear to be purchasing a "new" 2002 EX at a couple of hundred dollars below MSRP and having the benefit of the extended bumper to bumper and powertrain warrenty and better financing.

Any thoughts / knowledge regarding a true price / value would be apprecieted (i.e - I know the dealer paid invoice or less - and minus any holdback or pack - but did have to pay something for the certified status which extends the warrenty and gives better financing)

...IIRC that vehicle should still be covered under the 3/36 Honda warranty even as a "used" vehicle - no need for certification. Be very careful that this isn't in reality a Canadian market unit - they are not warranted by Honda America. Check for daytime running lights, speedo/odo in km, heated mirror switch, or climate control in celcius.

    Good Luck.

It seems that you lucked out. We spoke to the Denville dealer, he has two, and would be happy to have us travel 100 miles to discuss MSRP with him. No deals. Still looking. Thanks for the info anyway, and Enjoy.

I got my car 3 weeks after I signed the contract. The ody is 1500 off the list price, exactly the same as they claimed.
  • looker10looker10 Member Posts: 3
Thanks for the tips. This is definitely a US car, bought at the Corp auction in KY - no Celius or heated mirrors or DRL's. Closed the deal yesterday - didnt really have time to negoitate with my hetic schedule, so I settled on 27,000 with a free cargo tray and the aforementioned 4/48 warrenty and 7/100 powertrain, and 4.9% financing that comes wit it being certified.

Question - should I have any special paperwork for it being certified?

All together the deal went great, no hidden charges or BS and at $210 below sticker with a better warrenty and fincancing then a 2003, I'll take the 2002!
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
...good for you!! I'm by nature suspicious. It just seemed funny to me that there was a less than 100 mile "used" Odyssey sold at a Honda corporate auction.

AFAIK, you should get some sort of paperwork confirming the warranty and certified status.

    Good Luck with it.
  • looker10looker10 Member Posts: 3
Yes I was suspicious also, but two weeks ago the same dealer got in over 15 2002 Odysseys from NV that Honda used at a gold tournament. All over those 15+ Odysseses had around 600 miles each.

The "crop" this week was about 5-10 2002 Odysseys all with less then 20 miles on them. All were being sold as certified used, though the one I bought had never been "dropped" the manager said ("dropped" being listed as sold - of the in service date - so the warrenty period was never activated - so my warrenty - 4/48 - began the day I picked it up.)

The dealer I'm sure is making more on these then the new ones (he gets them certainly below invoice and holdback), but MSRP is the rule out here and I paid below that, with a better warrenty and financing.

    azmommy2,

I think there is only one dealer in NJ Denville area. I do not know if I can give you the Dealership Name or not. We went to same dealer on Sep 28th and we did not get less than the MSRP. In fact $100 more than MSRP. But when we called him again on Sep 30th and asked for the final quote, we got 1500 less than MSRP. Definitely it was a month end magic. And also they get new stocks very often. Those 2 white once was there when we got ours. But we got sandstone from the new stock, which arrived same or previous day. We paid 28,783 total for EX-L.
  • awaghawagh Member Posts: 3
Picked up Redrock Pearl EX today. Dealer beat my credit union financing by 3/10 of a point. Got a 4.59% financing and he removed the $49 documentation fee for financing through him. So all in all I got the deal for 500 below MSRP with no other added fees but tax & title. Also got wheel locks, center console arm rest, window etching, mudguards and free lifetime NJ inspection and loaner car if vehicle is in the shop for more than 2 hours. Final price paid
$26860 + $1605.66 Tax + $124.70 (Reg/Title) = $28590.36. This dealer is in Burlington NJ and is willing to give the same deal to anyone if u pick one from his stock on EXL or EX (red, Sandtone Beige and Silver are currently in stock). However one might end up paying the intial $49 for documentation though. That was taken off since I financed through him. If anyone wishes to get more details contact me at awagh@hotmail.com

I'd like to finance my EXL through my dealer. What is the lowest rate anybody has recently gotten from their dealer on a 48 and/or 60 month loan? Your input is really appreciated!
  • golicgolic Member Posts: 714
I live in Chicago area, and dealer offered me a local bank rate of 5.89% He said that was best he could do.

I applied two weeks earlier at peoplefirst.com (advertised on edmunds) I would say one of the best experiences I ever had, you apply online and they call you w/i 15 minutes to let you know if your approved and for how much. No fees, even if you don't use thier check. From my dealings with them they are a quality, first class organization.

When I told F&I, fine I will use my 4.99% peoplefirst.com check he bent over backwards to meet it.

Bottom line always go in to meet F&I with your own financing. If they don't meet or match you don't have to accept their rate.

I am looking to purhcase a 03 odyssey EXL. I have my financing at 4.99%, are the cars readily available and what kind of $ of list has anyone experienced in the chicago area.
  • golicgolic Member Posts: 714
my shopping of dealers went from $1500 off MSRP (rare) to some $500 off MSRP if you came in that day and took stock and up to $3000 over MSRP with dealer added options.

I could not wait for the $1500 off deal, and managed to get an EXL with no add ons for MSRP (did end up getting free mud guards, but thats another story)

You can email me and I will give you some names of the people I dealt with, some good others not so good.

If anyone hears or sees of an Evergreen Pearl EX-L RES, can you reply back either here or send me an e-mail. I'm told Honda is making them but it's a real challenge to find one. If anyone in the midwest comes across one, please let me know; I'll figure out a way to get it back home. Thanks a bunch!
  • mschafermschafer Member Posts: 317
I saw several of them on trucks headed west on I-20 from the Alabama plant yesterday. Whether they were EX-L RES or not, I have no idea; but the color was on the trucks.
  • golicgolic Member Posts: 714
These cars leave the Alabama plant and go to the secret dealer paint center where they get repainted Silver, Red and Beige...I am sorry I mean Starlight Silver, Redrock pearl and Sandstone.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
LOL - but you know that some people are going to believe you.
  • bdaddybdaddy Member Posts: 171
It used to be they were all painted Gray! At least there are a few color choices these days. Honda must have taken a chapter from Henry Ford's Model T color selection manual - "the customer can have any color they want, as long as it's Gray."

Seriously though, I hae seen one Havasau Blue. Ford and Toyota have a color that's close, but a bit more garish. I've heard it described as Crest toothpaste blue, but it's not that bad. I did also manage to see the green that's sort of an army green pearl (Evergreen Pearl?). I didn't like it too much but hey, beauty is in the eye of the owner.

I notice that there are a few post from NC, TX and IL with significant mark downs of $500 to $2700 off MSRP. Are all of them on 2003 or some 2002? On the left coast, one dealer has the 2003 at MSRP and 2002 at $1000 to 2000 off MSRP. Most of the other dealers are out of the 2002 and 2003 at 1500 to 2000 ABOVE MSRP. Are mark down a sign that they aren't selling that well or that Toyota is to come out with a new 2004 minivan? I definately like the larger Ody with fold down seat and cargo well. The 2003 Toyota seem to be faster, smoother and more car like (noise, handling, etc.). Is there new 2004 Ody to match?

    dave.
  • seguyseguy Member Posts: 133
I would agree that's it's slightly quieter, and more compliant with bumps, but I thought the odyssey is faster and handles better.
  • seguyseguy Member Posts: 133
Is there a review of one anywhere on the new redesign?
    Thanks

Not really, Seguy. It's early days.

mschafer - You said you saw a bunch of green odys. leaving the Alabama plant - before I do a little more investigating, can you let me know when this was?

More and more I'm feeling like because it's a difficult color (supposedly) to get, the dealer doesn't want the hassle so he tries to sell me the colors he knows he gets easily. Can you tell I'm getting frustrated?

    Hi there,

I seem to recall you also dealt with Jacobs Twin. I'm in weekly contact with internet group and they haven't tried to get me to pick another color (I've requested the dark blue). However, they also claim to have no real knowledge about delays in blues and the dark blue is "scheduled" to be shipped sometime in November, I think. I'm wondering if I should be shopping around.

    Good luck to you.

I have secured a deal for a 2003 EXL w/ DVD for 28500. Any comments? Is this price decent? It seemed almost too easy.

    Thanks

Sounds good compared to the TMV ranges. MSRP seems common lots of places still.

merlot3 - $28,500 is a good deal for the EX-L RES as long as they can produce the vehicle you ordered. good luck - stay on them and get the deal in writing.
  • mdt308mdt308 Member Posts: 18
My approach is to cover my bases and have 3 or 4 dealer contacts "looking" for me. Whoever can produce first with a good price - they got the deal. Hey, they're doing their thing, I'm doing mine. If you're willing to give up some or all of that $1,500 savings, start calling. Good luck!

My friend in Dallas, TX got a deal with EX-L Silver Star light color, the 2003 Honda Odyssey with 27,900 on base price including tinted windows, mud guard and cartray.

I feel like I got the 2003 Honda Odyssey around September 2003 was kind of hurry. ($28,400)
Anyone got a best deal like that?
  • mschafermschafer Member Posts: 317
Anyone have any pros or cons on these guys? I contacted them via the Internet and received a quote that is almost too low to believe; and I wonder if they're low balling just to get my attention - only to throw in a bunch of adders when we star talking seriously.
  • dave2001autodave2001auto Member Posts: 20
rfeng1, Try Dublin Honda in the SF bay area. I've only spoken to Gary on the phone. He seems like a nice guy. Plain talk, no hard sale, info. up front. I'm too busy to buy now, but will see him in Feb. 04 before buying. He also had some 2002 Ex at the begining of the week. Tell me how it goes. If he treats you well and you strike a deal with him, tell him I sent you.
  • mschafermschafer Member Posts: 317
Backed out of their offer. Claimed they couldn't do out of state deals. I thought it was too good to be true.
  • lucyvp49lucyvp49 Member Posts: 14
We have been called back by our local dealer, who told us he was ready to talk under MSRP on the phone, and when we got there, had no authority to. Annoying.

Anyway, we told him we were shopping around the NY tri state area, and he gave us this song and dance that we would not be covered under the Lemon Law of New York if we did not purchase in NY. OK, sounds reasonable, so my research leads me to believe that we would be covered by the Lemon Law of the state that we did purchase in. Salesman says No, because we will not pay sales tax in that state, the sales tax would go to NYS. So, wouldn't I then be covered by NYS Lemon Law?

What is the story? Has anyone heard of this sales tactic, and which states law would I be protected by?

I am looking to buy a 2003 EXL in the Boston area (Eastern Massachusetts). Does anyone know of dealers that are selling below MSRP? I appreciate any suggestion. Thanks.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
I live in MA and once bought a new car in NH. All the paperwork given to me listed only NH Lemon Law information.

The dealer advised me that I would have to deal with NH as that is where the transaction took place.

    YMMV
